Ted Cruz Calls Trump a ‘Sniveling Coward’ for Attacking His Wife

As Cruz calls for unconstitutional surveillance of Muslim neighborhoods
Politics • Views: 53,822

Sometimes I can’t believe how utterly bizarre and disgusting the Republican presidential race has gotten. This is sure to go down in history as one of the most venal, degraded elections ever: Ted Cruz: Trump is a ‘Sniveling Coward’.

Ted Cruz called Donald Trump a “sniveling coward” and told him to leave his wife “the hell alone” on Thursday after Trump tweeted an unflattering photo of his spouse, Heidi Cruz.

“Our children and spouses are off limits,” Cruz warned.

The Texas senator said Trump is scared by “strong women” and that “real men don’t try to bully women.”

UPDATE at 3/24/16 12:59:30 pm by Charles Johnson

Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski responds in typical thuggish manner:

Broken clocks and all that.

So, would it surprise you that the Daily Caller dug into the background of the woman with whom the President did the tango last night and found she did a Playboy spread (link to twitter, not to DC)? Shocking, I know.

As if this somehow means the President did something wrong? And we’re in the same universe where Trump uses his own wife’s photo spreads to somehow claim he’s better qualified to be President than Cruz.

The right wing has lost all moorings with reality and are afloat in a sea of bile. All that hate has to go somewhere.

So, it’s late March. The GOP took 30-odd states to finally decide they had to winnow the field and unify against Trump. Problem is, A) they waited so long that there were absolutely no viable candidates left, so they are really being presented with a false choice B) Trump has a lead that is surmountable only in the context of maybe being able to be brought down in a contested convention, heretofore considered a worst-case scenario in modern party politics.

Does Scott Walker feel extremely smart or extremely stupid?

Aunty Entity Dragon  Mar 24, 2016 • 2:27:58pm

Run down on TPM on what our bugfuck insane legislature just did in 12 hours yesterday:

It implemented a detailed state-wide regulation of public restrooms, and limited a person’s use of those restrooms to only those restrooms that correspond with one’s “biological sex,” defined in the new state law as the sex identified on one’s birth certificate. (So yes, by law in NC now, transgender porn star Buck Angel (look him up) will have to use the women’s room…isn’t that precisely what these lawmakers are actually wanting to prevent?).

But the legislation didn’t stop there. It also expressly pre-empted all municipal and county ordinances or policies broader than the official state anti-discrimination statute, which does not include sexual orientation or gender identity among the list of prohibited bases of discrimination. So that effectively wipes out local LGBT anti-discrimination protections in numerous NC cities (and, ironically, wipes out the protection of discrimination based on “veterans status” in Greensboro and Orange County (Chapel Hill)).

But wait, there’s more. The legislation also expressly states that there can be no statutory or common law private right of action to enforce the state’s anti-discrimination statutes in the state courts. So if a NC resident is the victim of racial discrimination in housing or employment, for example, that person is now entirely barred from going to state court to get an injunction, or to get damages of any kind. The new law completely defangs the state’s anti-discrimination statute, rendering it entirely unenforceable by the citizens of the state.

But wait, there’s more! The legislation also prohibits municipalities and counties from passing a higher minimum wage than the State’s. Not that any municipality or county had done that…but in case any of them were thinking about it, that’s now prohibited, too.
This is much broader than the RFRA laws that we saw in Indiana and Arkansas last summer, and that Georgia is dealing with right now. The NC legislature learned the lessons from those states and the political and corporate/business blow-back, and did this all before anyone could pay attention.

Everybody get that?

Not only are post op trans people and any other trans people banned from bathrooms that do not match their birth certificate...no city or county in NC can make any sort of civil rights rules, laws or preferences of any sort for anybody, including military veterans.

Oh, and forget about that minimum wage in Charlotte, or Ware County asking that government contractors pay a decent salary.

Banned.

Oh, I’m sorry, did the wait staff at the restaurant just insult your skin color and say “We don’t serve your kind around here?”

Your lawsuit has just been preemptively banned as well.

Civil rights complaint about your employer of your landlord?

Banned. You CANNOT SUE IN NC COURTS ANYMORE!

All NC civil rights laws have been effectively rescinded as of today.

You can still file federal civil rights suits in federal court…but nothing like this has ever happened on this scale that I know of where a state essentially voided ALL local and state civil rights laws in a secret, unannounced special session where the legislation was not revealed until 5 minutes before the vote was called.

This is the sort of thing you would associate with Reconstruction Era North Carolina.

Presuming a not-close Trump/Cruz loss in the general, it will be interesting to see how the GOP leadership handles the I-told-you-so conversation with the base. It’s not obvious to me that they can be drawn back in, but neither is it obvious that the bridge has been fully burned. Voters love winning, and certainly the GOP will continue to cater (somewhat more subtly) to white working-class interests.

Maybe we’ll just see Candidate Ryan in 2020 and this will have all blown over. I don’t expect it, but it wouldn’t shock me.

They can currently equate “strength” with “winning”. It’s baked into the conversation. Therefore, in order to project “winning”, they can affect a position that the lumpenproletariat interpret as “strength”.

I wonder what these assbag politicians will be saying about this topic in a year, when the equation has presumably been tested and found badly wanting.

“Obviously, the problem was we did not nominate a conservative enough candidate.”

I think a big segment of the power base recognizes that they spawned Cruz, and they don’t want any more of them. It’ll need to be spun more like “assholes are bad, we need to have a return to Dubya’s compassionate conservatism”, or something. And then when the turboconservative candidates appear in 2020, kneecap them early on and keep things from spiraling out of control again.

I dunno, we’ll find out.

NYPD still acting like an army of occupation if you look at headlines from Raw Story etc over the last 3 days.

yesterday…arrested a mailman who vocally complained when an unmarked cop car nearly sideswiped his mailtruck that was parked while he made deliveries.

2 days ago…NYPD blames college professor hit and killed while legally crossing on walk sign in a crosswalk by off duty officer in van who did not signal and was talking on phone. NYPD claims the dead victim did not take due diligence despite the fact he was crossing during lit cross sign in complete accordance with all laws.

And so it goes.

That might be an unwise bet to make. This garbage was pushed through in 12 hours, which is conducive to all kinds of unintended consequences. There is also this bit (from AED’s #86)

Having legislatures actually debate their laws is the main way to prevent idiocy like this, but the GOP just doesn’t care.

Does anyone know if ALEC had anything to do with any of this new law’s creation? If by any chance they had their rotten paws in this it could mean this was a test and more states could try to jump in.

I don’t have the details, but that seems likely. This NC law appears to be a RWNJ wish list that includes several anti-union provisions, in addition to its countless other awful provisions.

Edited to add: We shouldn’t be shocked or surprised by this kind of stuff, no matter how awful it gets. This is just what Republicans do when they have the votes. It really is that simple.

Yup those nuclear agreements sometimes just do not go so well. We have demonstrated the inability to enforce them with effective consequences. Non proliferation theater?

Washington (CNN)Some U.S. intelligence analysts now believe that North Korea “probably” possesses a miniaturized nuclear warhead, several U.S. officials told CNN.

How the hell did we get from here…

1985

December 12, 1985: North Korea accedes to the nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) but does not complete a safeguards agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Under Article III of the NPT, North Korea has 18 months to conclude such an arrangement. In coming years, North Korea links adherence to this provision of the treaty to the withdrawal of U.S. nuclear weapons from South Korea.
1991

September 27, 1991: President George Bush announces the unilateral withdrawal of all naval and land-based tactical nuclear weapons deployed abroad. Approximately 100 U.S. nuclear weapons had been based in South Korea. Eight days later, Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev reciprocates.

To here?

2016

January 6, 2016: North Korea announces it conducted a fourth nuclear weapons test, claiming to have detonated a hydrogen bomb for the first time. Monitoring stations from the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization detect the seismic activity from the test. The type of device tested remains unclear, although experts doubt it was of a hydrogen bomb based on seismic evidence.

February 7, 2016: North Korea launches a long-range ballistic missile carrying what it has said is an earth observation satellite in defiance of United Nations sanctions barring it from using ballistic missile technology, drawing strong international condemnation from other governments which believe it will advance North Korea’s military ballistic missile capabilities.

So, the RWNJ have kept up a steady stream of derp about Obama and his family, putting his feet on the desk at the WH, having “thugs” like Common over to rap, etc, and here we are with the two remaining, viable GOP candidates for president attacking each other’s wives. Obama has been all class, but these two….

Just looked at many pictures from the trip to Argentina. Pure class from the President, FLOTUS and their children - and of course mother-in-law.

I want to see if we can make a phrase trend on the internet. So anytime you use Trump’s name make sure you add “who has no business being president”, immediately thereafter. With any luck it will show up on Google search results and become a news story. Feel free to suggest an alternate phrase. I would have said who has an incredibly tiny penis comma but that ship has sailed.
