Trump Completely Reverses Abortion Statement in Less Than 3 Hours

Farce
Politics • Views: 61,763

And now, less than three hours after he said abortion should be banned, and women who have abortions should be punished, Donald Trump is totally reversing himself, probably because one of his advisers told him he was spilling the beans and being too honest about the implications of “pro-life” rhetoric, risking alienating women even more than he already has.

“My position has not changed.” It’s beyond parody, folks.

Latest Wisconsin poll has Cruz up 10 over Trumpster Fire. Is Trump actually going to blow this now, and give the GOP Ted Cruz?

He hasn’t reversed jack shit. He’s just tried the old tried-and-true wingnut method of arguing that women who undergo abortions are “victims,” either of “predatory” abortion providers or of mental illness. The idea that women are capable of making the decision not to go forward with a pregnancy and carry to term is anathema to a party that believes that pregnancy is a “gift” from God.

The aw-shucks folksy upper midwest just hates the ever-loving shit out of Trump’s style and demeanor. He might as well have been grown in a lab specifically to antagonize Minnesotans and Wisconsinites.

IF abortion = murder THEN hiring someone to perform an abortion = hiring someone to commit murder.

The only way the conclusion isn’t true is if the premise isn’t true.

Or, the other option: women, like young children or the mentally incapacitated, don’t have the ability to tell right from wrong and therefore have no moral agency. The R’s should go with that one. Donald may even agree.

Say for a moment you’re a Trump supporter.

He says that crap about punishing women who have abortions, so even if you had never even thought about it, you rush to defend him because he’s your dear leader.

Hours later he walks it back, so you rationalize and defend that, too. Because he’s your dear leader.

Then you look in the mirror and don’t feel the slightest bit of shame.

Ha. One of my favorite engagements on the older, crustier LGF was when I was arguing that you could in theory treat sugar etc. as harmful drugs and regulate them as such.

My long-since-departed counterpart won the round (in his view) by asserting that because sugar isn’t a drug, it can’t be a drug.

RWNJs would prefer to burn women at the stake for having an abortion. This position of not holding women criminally liable for their abortions is taken only because of political reality (i.e., the votes aren’t there in the US for this criminal liability).

RWNJ leader-types hide this truth from their more dim-witted constituents by pretending to have the best interests of inherently feeble-minded women in mind, which is bullshit so toxic it would gag a maggot.

Abortion is legal, a large % of Americans think it should stay that way. The GOP is using stealth means in the states to make it harder and harder for anyone other than the wealthy to get an abortion because they know that roe v wade will never be overturned.

I also should have been a bit more clear on the point I was trying to make. If any of the men I listed (the sleazy boyfriend hustler, the overbearing immoral husband, or the criminal rapist) were the person forcing a woman to get an abortion through influence or by crime, would they (Pro-Lifers for punishing someone) want to make the man involved a murderer and hold them responsible for the crime of abortion, along with the provider?

I realize allegro’s comment probably still stands. I am interested in how far the Pro-lifers want to go with their assigning a criminal murderer in abortion cases should they get their way and make all abortion illegal.

Wonder how much they spent on it. Those games cost more than blockbuster movies anymore.

They might want to make an impregnator criminally liable under those circumstances. If he’s a minority. White guy? Probly not.

Germany had abortion laws into the 80’s that allowed a woman to get one if she could prove some physical, psychological, social or economic hardship would result.

“Social/economic hardship” meant that if the father was German and employed, she was stuck with the kid, if the father was an unemployed immigrant, she could get rid of it.

Ho-lee-shit. I just got a call from my youngest sister asking if I’d seen the stuff our wingnut sister was posting. I’ve been avoiding Facebook so I hadn’t seen it. Apparently she posted something about NC’s anti-gay law and added that her family would probably hate her now but God would prove who’s right. Then she unfriended everyone in the family. She only has two friends now - both of which are uber right ‘christians’. Apparently I’m going to hell now for being gay. She’s got her site locked down so I can’t see her entries any more. My young sister is afraid of where this is going and I can tell you that I’m not going to pay her an unplanned visit - she’s also gotten onto the pro-gun bandwagon. and I wouldn’t trust her to not shoot me. Thanks! The gold Kreinik thread arrived today, but I haven’t had a chance to play with it yet. I’m kinda liking their “Vatican gold” color, seems like a cross between gold & silver… sorta champagne-y. The 1/8” and 1/16 ” metallic ribbon looked intriguing too. Never seen that before.

Getting involved with a cult is kind of what I’m worried about. She lives with a half dozen cats in the middle of nowhere and I know she just hangs around the house since she retired last year. Getting internet service at home (I used to contact her at her work address) seems to be shrinking her world instead of expanding it.

So, I guess 12 is “less than 50” and a whole lot less than 147. Gah.

WaPo—147 federal agents are working on the case…

Oops—sorry guys. WaPo—“FBI will not provide an exact figure,” there are “fewer than 50” FBI personnel involved in the case.”

Except that—former federal law enforcement official with direct knowledge of the Clinton investigation—“There are currently about 12 FBI agents working full-time on the case”

“147 was such a ridiculous number,” said the source, adding that 50 also sounded unrealistic for this kind of inquiry. “You need an act of terrorism to get 50 agents working on something,” said the former FBI official.

No perhaps about it. Let me be clear.

At my age now I’ve decided to be mostly celibate for personal reasons. One big one with me, probably due to my Catholic background/schooling and also based on past relationships, I find it better to shy away from “this is going nowhere and you are taking advantage of me” hurtful situations.

I do not like disappointing anyone and I don’t want to be seen as a taker. Much of it comes from my very independent nature and how that figured into the relationships I have had. I thought it best to just get into my career and art and ignore what people think. I know me and I can live with that.

It’s complicated and I chose to simplify.

Robert O.  Mar 30, 2016 • 6:23:57pm

To tell the truth, I am very thankful for Trump! He is making it very clear, in no uncertain terms, what the Republican platform really means. Trump’s sin is that he is shouting with a bullhorn what conventional Republicans (say, on immigration, race, etc) prefer to whisper with a wink. It is far better that the misogynists, racists and Theocrats speak without a mask, than for people to try to assume the best in them. In the last eight years, we’ve had an unprecedented war against women’s sovereign rights over their reproductive systems. The cause of this is Republican control of state legislatures, and the Republican majorities are abetted by gerrymandering. To take the country back from these dangerous people require a collapse in support for the GOP. For that reason, I love Donald Trump. Every time he says something extreme that is certain to alienate more people ahead of November, I love him even more. He’s the greatest gift to the Democratic Party. I wish him the best of luck securing the Republican nomination. In the General Election, I’ll be supporting Hillary Clinton or whoever the Democratic nominee will be.

In addition to this RWNJ wish list of desirable punishments, we shouldn’t miss the punishments that are already in place, such as the mandatory ultrasounds, waiting periods (especially in combination with severely limited access to clinics) that impose a financial burden, mandatory and inherently insulting “counseling” that often consists exclusively of RWNJ talking point lies, etc. etc. etc.

She’s absolutely right about that. And the exit polls agree with this too. They consistently show they agree with his beliefs about torture, excluding all Muslim immigrants, etc. The Republican Party thinks Trump is their illness but they were a diseased party long before Trump even entered the party which makes again the attempts to call Trump a left wing creation all the more absurd. Not to mention that right behind Trump is a guy who thinks the Middle East should be carpet bombed and is a theocrat. And Kasich isn’t much better with his constant patronizing attitude to women as well as his belief that we should use taxpayer money to spread Christianity in the ME.

In addition to this RWNJ wish list of desirable punishments, we shouldn’t miss the punishments that are already in place, such as the mandatory ultrasounds, waiting periods (especially in combination with severely limited access to clinics) that impose a financial burden, mandatory and inherently insulting “counseling” that often consists exclusively of RWNJ talking point lies, etc. etc. etc.

I just wanted to limit it to actions that had the overt goal of prosecuting a woman for terminating her pregnancy, whether it be deliberate or accidental.

If I had included all of the things designed to persecute women, whether it be the bogus “crisis pregnancy centers”, invasive medical procedures, undue waiting periods, even going as far as attempting to redefine rape, and requiring both parties’ consent - with no exceptions - meaning rape victims had to get the consent of the person who raped her before ending her pregnancy - if I had documented each of these, I would have been linking things all night.

I said it earlier and I stand by it that Trump is finished. Hillary will use that sound bite of Trump with Matthews over and over and over as she should. My wingnut cousin (who is about to lose a lot of money to me on November 8th) said the other day that Republican women may say they’ll vote for a Republican, but when they get in that voting booth alone, and think about their reproductive rights, they’ll vote for the candidate that’s on the side of Roe. He’s right, but I’ll take it a step further and say a lot of moderate-leaning Republican MEN are going to look at what Trump said and think to themselves that even that is too much and vote for Hillary.

What Trump did today is the best thing that could’ve happened for the Democrats. What Trump said is terrible, don’t get me wrong, but in the long run it’s an incredible unforced error that ruined any chance he had, albeit a near non-existent one.

Pondering the real meaning of Drumpfskind upon America

I have many possibly snarky replies.

But if I be more serious than usual, I think that we are seeing the outworking of our fellow Americans’ uncomfortable relationship with the 21st century.

The century that has rapidly decreased privacy… coming after decades of losses of job-security.

Insecurity breeds over-reactions.

If November comes down to Drumpfskind vs. Clinton I do believe that Clinton will win. That will come down to Drumpfskind losing the female voters by a goodly sized margin.

But Drumpfskind will still get a lot of votes. It will be a fascinating experiment in democracy to see how many he gets.

This is too weird.

I’m so sorry to hear that because I go through the same thing with my family.

This is so interesting. Reddit is the official website of both Berniebros and Drumpf, and they don’t want to talk about it! There is a single discussion on /politics but it is relegated to the 3rd or 4th page. On /thedonald they only started talking about it when someone took a screenshot of the Dilbert creator saying something horrible as deflection. The only real discussion of this awful view of his is on /atheism. The rest of reddit just wants to be outraged over something about Hillary, Debbie Wasserman-Shultz, and why Bernie will save the world. Kids today are so detached from reality it is scary.

I lost a friend to radical Christianity. Could not take his divisive viewpoint any longer and constant judging. For some reason 9/11 really turned some moderate nice Christians into radical extremists. I guess they viewed that tragedy as proof the end of the world is coming, and they think they were getting on the right side of Armageddon.

*sigh*
One of my best friends is drinking the Bernie or Bust Koolaid:

Eugene V. Debs ran for president several times and never had the ghost of a chance. Franklin Roosevelt, at least as badly flawed as Hillary from the purist standpoint, ran for president and changed the world..

“What do you want?”
“Free tuition, higher taxes on the rich.”
“So, you don’t want health care available to as many as possible, minorities to be able to vote, gays to be able to marry, women to have access to abortion?”
“Yes, I do. That’s not what I said.”
“If you’re not voting for a Democrat, that’s exactly what you said.”

Edit: I’m that far behind.
