If anyone deserves to inherit the King Of The Blues title from Stevie Ray Vaughan, it’s Joe Bonamassa.

This amazing performance by Blues-Rock Titan Joe Bonamassa of the Free song “Walk In My Shadows” live at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2007. This incredible festival has featured an unbelievable variety of artists including Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, Alabama Shakes, John Legend, Beth Hart, and a myriad more! Joe’s energetic, raw and fiery performance is old school and burning hot, so don’t miss it!

Bonamassa has just released his latest studio album, Blues of Desperation, which is being hailed by critics as “arguably one of the finest blues-rock albums of all time!” and “a powerhouse record that showcases some of his best recorded moments in recent times!” Grammy Award nominated blues-rocker Joe Bonamassa’s Blues of Desperation is his 12th solo studio album and features, astonishing, cutting edge blues musicianship from Bonamassa and his band which includes drummers Greg Morrow and Anton Fig, the latter famous for being the drummer of David Letterman’s house band, as well as Nashville ace of bass Michael Rhodes and Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble alumnus Reese Wynans.

Joe blazes across new horizons of blues-rock on songs like the stirring Americana tune ‘The Valley Runs Low’, the barreling rocker ‘This Train’, and the searing blues-rock riff driven, ‘Mountain Climbing’. Get your copy of Joe Bonamassa’s Blues of Desperation today!

I just received “Blues of Desperation” in the mail Friday. I haven’t even opened it yet. I agree with you about his inheriting King of the Blues from Stevie Ray

I’ll argue for Gary Clark Jr (Blak And Blu is insanely great) as SRV’s heir, Charles, but Mr. Bonamassa is insanely great as well.

I consider myself fortunate that I got to see SRV the only time he played in Eau Claire WI. That little university gym was louder than any other concert I’ve ever seen :) but even though that was at what was supposed to be the worst of his drug/alcohol era, it remains the best hard blues I’ve ever seen, even after some serious pub crawling in Chicago.

The amazing thing about SRV was that he could be totally fucked up beyond belief on drugs that would have killed most normal human beings and still play his ass off.

That’s some hot stuff. I don’t follow Joe Bonamassa, but I actually see his videos quite often because I have a pedal fetish (though I only own 5 and a tuner) and his favored pedals often come up in searches. He’s definitely got soul.

And what’s extra tragic is he was supposedly clean when he died.

Several years later at Alpine Valley. Idiot chopper pilot tried to trade altitude for speed and killed everyone on board as a result. Clapton was on a different helio that night and survived.

Yep, that’s what I’ve heard and that he was supposed to be even better that way. If so, that was the biggest tragedy in music since Buddy Holly.

Early reports were that Clapton’s heli went down. I was sitting in a tent trailer outside of Calgary when I heard. I thought it was bad that Clapton died, but when it was revealed it was Stevie I was shocked.

And a little bit of whiskey, beef jerky, and cheese to top off the night is certainly the way to be.

Interesting. Not the straight-up blues of SRV, but a more melodic or orchestral approach.

That’s why the pilot should have gone for altitude. Clapton’s did. Instead he thought, apparently, that he knew the area and could zip it to the airport. Hit a towers guy wires instead IIRC.

Hi 50-something guys. Cry at commercials? You may be suffering from MAML….

Today I popped a CD that I barely listened to when I bought it 15 or so years ago because is sounded so inferior to the vinyl of the original. It was the dBs’ “Repercussions” album. Several songs of breakup had me weepy, but the big hit did the trick:

Might have been. You can see his two Marshall heads stacked on their side next to the cabinets, and no bass amp in sight.

But I remember back in 1970, I was way into getting every amp and speaker cabinet I could lay my hands on and stacking them all up. Eventually I was using two Fender Deluxe Reverbs, each with a Bandmaster cabinet underneath. But prior to that I was borrowing Ampegs, Gretsches, and Kustoms and plugging them all into each other. :)

Supposed to get scattered snow showers here this week. It was 65 degrees today; I don’t think the high this week is supposed to get beyond 50. Fish folk have it even worse; they had a power outage due to wind, it’s supposed to be below 50 all week, and yet they have to go out and mow lawns and do landscaping because it’s spring, goddamn it.

Jackie Chan is on the list. I saw a video out of India explaining the laws in India regarding sending money and investing outside of India.

The ICIJ website reminded me:

As with many of Mossack Fonseca’s clients, there is no evidence that Chan used his companies for improper purposes. Having an offshore company isn’t illegal. For some international business transactions, it’s a logical choice.

I do not know the laws in the U.S. regarding offshore investing.

I hear ya. I’m running a very weird rig with a Crate Power Block and a JBL single-12 cabinet - absolutely tiny (I sat in with a band last week, and the sound man looked at it and said ‘You’re playing through that?’), but pound for pound, it’s probably louder than the Deluxe-Bandmaster rig from back in the day. But that’s a 60-something rocker for you. :)

About the time I was using the big Fender rig, my band took on a bass player that had moved to Philly from Maryland. He had a Kustom 400 head with two of those gigantic Kustom 3x15” cabinets in Metallic Purple sparkle. Just ridiculously loud.

He had a van, and when he wasn’t playing he had the Kustom rig hooked up to his 8-track player. He side panels of the van would vibrate when he cranked it. Good times.

Looks like the IRS will be the big hammer in the PanamaPapers fallout for US citizens.

a new provision of the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), originally passed in 2010 that will take effect in July 2014, is poised to create a whole new level of scrutiny of foreign bank accounts held by American citizens. This new provision will require foreign financial institutions to report information about their American account holders (including both citizens and green card holders, regardless of where they live) to the IRS.

Fuck the God damned South

Dunahoo said that she paid $275 in rent on Feb. 28, but Baker called the next day with bad news.

“Hey, you didn’t tell me you was married to no black man,” Dunahoo recalled Baker saying. “Oh, it’s a big problem with the members of my church, my community and my mother-in-law… They don’t allow that black and white shacking.”

Although Dunahoo pointed out that she was not “shacking” with her husband because they are married, Baker reportedly insisted that it is “the same thing.”

“You don’t talk like you wouldn’t be with no black man,” Baker allegedly said. “If you would had come across like you were with a black man, we wouldn’t have this problem right now.”

When asked if he would be willing to let another interracial couple stay in his RV park, Baker replied: “I’m closing it down, and that solves the problem.”

That solves the problem?

Not by a fucking long shot.

I was just approached to build a website to promote a movement to write in Bernie Sanders during the general if he doesn’t get the nomination.

The person who wants to bankroll it is a wingnut.

Yeah, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out the motivation for that one. I’m sure he’s not the only one thinking this either… :-(

Sad part is the idiots won’t get that. Too busy thinking that if they vote for the magic unicorn it’ll all change overnight to utopia.

I’ve been a leftist - serious, hardcore, DF terrifying socialist leftist - for decades and we’ve never been a threat to the oligarchy running this nation because we can never be smart enough to do what we have to, to actually set aside our partisan hatreds and elect the one who’ll get us half a loaf rather than no loaf leaving us - and the rest of the proletariat - starving.

From the WSJ last year:

By LAURA SAUNDERS
June 5, 2015 9:41 a.m. ET

Crucial deadlines are approaching for millions of U.S. taxpayers who live abroad or have offshore financial ties.

For expatriates, the annual income-tax filing deadline is normally June 15, instead of April 15. In addition, all U.S. taxpayers with offshore accounts totaling more than $10,000 in 2014—regardless of where they live—have until June 30 to file FinCen Form 114, known as Fbar, a report giving details of the accounts.

The PananaPapers can be a huge mess not only for the rich but many other less wealthy people.
The penalties can be 50% or more.

Here are some cool pics of Iggy & The Stooges playing a high school gym in 1970.

I note that James Williamson Ron Ashton was playing through two full Marshall stacks and what looks like a Sunn bass amp. Must have been louder than hell.

(Edited to correct which Stooge guitar player I was talking about.)

Is that an old Sunn Coliseum? I think they were like 300 watts.

If I remember correctly, I saw Foghat at the ol’ Columbus Agora like ‘73 or so. They used those old Sunn Model Ts. The tubes in the cage about the size of a Marshall amp. Those along with the slide work of Lone Dave on his Kramer aluminum necked guitar was enough the remove the audience’s teeth fillings. Yeow!

That’s exactly it. The SCOTUS said “No”. He took the US Army and said “Yes” and the citizens of America gave a beautiful preview of Nazi Germany by saying “We see nothing… Nothing….”

I have utterly no doubt that will be exactly what happens in a Trump administration no matter the makeup of the SCOTUS.

Speaking at a rally in Rothschild, Wisconsin ahead of the state’s primary on Tuesday, the Republican presidential frontrunner said that if conflict between Japan and nuclear-armed North Korea were to break out, “it would be a terrible thing but if they do, they do”.

“Good luck,” he added. “Enjoy yourself, folks.”

Referring to North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, Trump also complained that the US had 28,000 troops on the armistice line between North Korea and South Korea “to stop a maniac”.

“What we do we get out of it?” he asked. “What we do get out of it? It’s time that other people stopped looking at us as stupid, stupid people.”

I remember the Model Ts. That’s when Sunn finally wised up and started building 4x12” cabinets that were square like Marshalls. Prior to that, they had the speakers staggered and the cabinets were enormous.

Mountain had a Sunn endorsement with the older cabinets. West and Pappalardi each used three heads and six cabinets, and they’d stack them with a cabinet on the bottom, then the head, then another cabinet on top, turned upside down.

I felt bad for their crew having to hoist those cabinets. And if the stack had fallen over, they might have killed someone.

Did you hear how Sunn got started?

It was the brother of the bass player in The Kingsmen. After they started getting bigger gigs due to the popularity of Louie Louie bassist Norm Sundholm and his brother Conrad worked to build a bigger more powerful bass amp. They built them in their garage. Then they caught on and so they moved out of the garage and started SUNN Musical Equipment Co.
