Pathetic Video of the Day: Some of Donald Trump’s Best Friends Are Black

Pay no attention to all those polls!
Politics • Views: 53,873

Donald Trump’s poll numbers with African Americans are absurdly bad, and it’s not surprising after the crazed anti-minority rhetoric he’s been spewing since he started his run for president.

But in today’s pathetically comical attempt to make this go away by pretending it isn’t happening, Trump’s social media director Dan Scavino just tweeted a video created by “Immigrants for Trump” that shows he really does have some black friends!

See if you can count how many times they reuse images of Trump’s “black friends.”

UPDATE at 4/4/16 5:03:54 pm by Charles Johnson

To make this even more ridiculous, Trump himself retweeted a video by “Immigrants for Trump” full of eagles and fireworks and flags, that has now been deleted from YouTube and withheld by Twitter because it violated a copyright. Classic.

Here’s the video, still visible on Twitter as of this writing (but you have to go through the back door…):

UPDATE: Never mind! It’s completely gone now.

Philip Bump on Tim Robbins, Guam, and South Carolina:

”..The fundamental disconnect for supporters of Sanders is that he’s still running a real campaign and still raising more money than Clinton — even though there’s essentially no way he can win. We didn’t say Sanders was done after South Carolina, but we did say it after Super Tuesday. Because the race was essentially over at that point, with Sanders having no real way to cobble together enough delegates to beat Clinton, barring a miracle.”

It’s this kind of thinking that pisses black persons like myself off—-the notion that we must be “educated/indoctrinated” by someone in order to know for whom to vote, to insure that we choose the “right” person. I voted for Hillary in GA’s primary, not because I don’t know anything about Sanders, but because I view her as being more knowledgeable on a whole host of issues that matter to me. I’m concerned about income inequality and about the power of big financial institutions, but these are not my only concerns. Some Bernie supporters seem to have no idea how much they sound like right-wing nuts when they say things like this.

In Madison, Cruz says Roe v. Wade should be overturned

In the last day of campaigning in Wisconsin’s GOP presidential primary, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said that the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark abortion decision can and should be overturned and that states should be able to ban abortion even in cases of rape and incest.

In a town hall meeting moderated by Fox News host Megyn Kelly, Cruz said that the high court’s 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade should not be considered settled law.

“I think it was a classic example of (judicial) activism,” Cruz told Kelly here at the Masonic Temple.

States should be free to prohibit abortion in cases including rape and incest, said Cruz, who noted that he had been involved in prosecuting such crimes while serving as solicitor general under the Texas attorney general.

Lawrence v. Texas and Loving v. Virginia are also considered “settled law” ted. I also have no doubt that Ted would love to see those decisions reversed at some point in the future.

Cruz’ lead slipped a bit.

A poll Sunday showed Cruz and Sanders ahead but left space for doubts about the outcome of Tuesday’s elections.

The survey by CBS News and YouGov showed Cruz with 43% to 37% for Trump and 18% for Kasich, and it gave Sanders a 49% to 47% lead over Clinton. The poll, which followed a week of other surveys showing similar leads for Cruz and Sanders, had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.

How many helicopter crashes does anyone really see?

I’ve seen quite a few, though my experience is admittedly not very common.

The worst, I think, was a Huey that caught a heavy round (@20mm) right on the rotor mast. I was looking right at it from a few hundred feet away. The rotor folded up and separated. The chopper tilted forward and went straight down, crashing inverted in a grass field. It seemed to splash rather than explode on impact, as though it were made of tissue paper rather than metal, then caught fire. What was so horrible was the relative lack of drama, and how quickly it happened. It was hit and then it was gone. I radioed coordinates and “non-survivable” and went on. There were 10 people in it.

I actually have an aversion to choppers, especially for things like sight seeing or executive flights. I can’t help but feel (as opposed to think) that they are not really safe enough for anything but war or desperate emergencies. Statistically this is probably wrong but there is a lot that can go wrong and, worse, little recourse when it does.

I guess I fall in the “uninformed white voters” group that doesn’t know anything/what’s good for us in South Carolina—we women also voted for Hillary.

White men, as noted, accounted for just 14 percent of voters; black women accounted for 37 percent. Clinton won white women by 60-40 percent, while losing white men, 44-56 percent.

Clinton won whites age 45 and older - 63-37 percent vs. Sanders - and the latter group accounted for a far larger share of white voters overall, 65 percent.

Oh, and that Bernin’ meme that every Dem in SC in super conservative, and that’s why Bernie lost?

Sixty-five percent of white voters identified themselves as liberals, vs. 46 percent of black voters. Clinton won white moderates and “somewhat” liberals by double digits, while she and Sanders split “very” liberal whites.

Trump Son-In-Law’s Paper Revamps Trump Coverage Amid AIPAC Speech Flap

The New York Observer, a weekly newspaper owned by Donald Trump’s son-in-law, announced Monday it was changing the way it covers the GOP frontrunner after it was reported that the son-in-law helped Trump write a speech with input from one of his editors.

New York Magazine’s Gabriel Sherman reported in a piece published Sunday that Observer publisher Jared Kushner, who is married to Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, wrote Trump’s speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) with help from the paper’s editor-in-chief, Ken Kurson.

I and many others here have said this ad nauseam around here: I’m not against Bernie by any means, I *like* most of the stuff he’s argued for and put out there, and I would vote for him in two seconds if he’s the nominee, which is a moot point (he’s not going to be the nominee).

I do that sometimes twice a day. Just in case.

OT, but I just went out to the car in 3 or 4 inches of snow with some still falling. After this winter in NH it was a bizarre experience; for a moment I thought, “we’re in for a long hard winter.” April.

and here we have Red Trees and White Trees and Purple Trees and Yellow Things all blooming. My sinuses are not happy right now.

I no longer like Bernie. Before it was “I like Bernie, but some of his fans are crazy”. Now it’s: Bernie AND his fans are nuts.

Wake me up November 6th!

I’ve gone from “on the balance, his presence in the race is productive” to “you made your point, and you’re entitled to keep running but don’t fuck everything up” to oldmanyellsatcloud.jpg.

His fans* have never been tolerable.
.
.
.
* I continue to emphasize that there are plenty of reasonable and rational voters who prefer Bernie Sanders’ policy positions, and I feel bad projecting the bad behavior on them. I’m not talking about them.

I’ve stayed on Bernie’s email list just to see what’s going on, but the emails are getting more obnoxious and sanctimonious every day. The ones about the GEORGE CLOONEY fundraiser were ridiculous. And there’s a never ending stream of “Hillary’s having a fundraiser where bundlers are raising $27,000” (which amounts to 10 people) and we, the humble, honest folks are only asking you for $27 (or $250 or whatever amount you want to give) about 10 times a day.

Good luck getting off his list. I don’t know how I got on but I really want Bernie and all the Bernie emails to go away.

You’re thinking too short term, <Unabogie>. I’ll take 4 years of misery if it means the republican party is irrevocably destroyed. I’ll take 4 years of misery if it means we can actually move the pendulum to the left. I’ll take 4 years of misery if it means we FINALLY get an actual progressive president.

In contrast, you’re willing to accept a lifetime of misery for…a lifetime of misery. Good luck with that. I quit shitty jobs. Maybe you’re willing to stick with them in hopes that one day your boss will have a change of heart, but he won’t - and you’ll be stuck working that shitty job forever. No thanks.,

I replied:

Wow, you’re OK with 4 years of misery for other people so long as your political aims are met? That’s the farthest thing from progressive I can think of. I truly urge you to think about the implications of that. I don’t want to list all the people who will fall victim under that. But it’s damn callous.

Since Bentley billed himself as a “Man of God,” a Sunday school teacher and a deacon, and a true believer in “traditional marriage between one man and one woman” when he first ran for governor, one would think he knew that it was wrong to cheat on the wife he’d been married to for 50 years. Hillary is the smartest kid in the class, the one who does all the homework assignments, answers all the questions in class and makes straight A’s, but she has no friends.

Bernie is the popular cool kid who is basically a lazy slacker.

Trump of course is the class bully.

Cruz is that lame kid that everybody makes fun of, but he tattles to the teacher about everything.

Obama has impressed me precisely because he ascended to the presidency and was careful and pragmatic every step of the way. Sure, some of his rhetoric in 2008 was unicorn-y at times. But he got the job, and got it again in 2012. And he’s been a careful and effective left-center leader since.

Funny thing, I had a conversation for about 20-30 minutes with a complete stranger at the coffee shop today. We didn’t agree on candidates, but we could agree to disagree like reasonable people. We did agree on a couple of things, the biggest being that the President has a lot less power in practice than candidates like to presume they will have while running. The President may be the CEO, but there is a very strong Board of Directors that must approve most of his actions.

It was a good conversation. No minds were changed, but at the end we both sincerely wished the other a good day and got on with life.

I was a cautious supporter mostly because my wife, who is a goddamned communist and I would divorce her if she wasn’t holding up half the sky while I watch tv, worked for Bernie even though she can’t vote, asked me to help her and I liked what Bernie had to say. I went to a couple of rallies in early days.

I went to the rally on the night of the NH primary and was lost when Cornell West introduced BS to us. Cornell told us that the Clintons were using us to further Wall Street’s agenda. Cornell said that Brother Bernie would chastise Wall Street. I could understand how that stuff worked on a few people, but the folks there weren’t really rallying. There were a handful of berniebro types, but most were patient and respectful.

Then I saw the movement grow. And I think I saw Bernie change. I’m not sure. But a couple of months ago I moved toward the Clinton camp. I’ll admit that I’m still not sure of her on use of force. But I’m a Bernie guy only in his chastisement of Wall St. That is important.

It makes me sick when they try to appropriate someone I know they hate deep down in their dark souls and try to make it seem as if s/he would have supported Trump. MLK was my cousin through my mom and Coretta being cousins, and no matter what that nutso in the family, Alveda King, says on Fox, no way would either Coretta or MLK have supported Trump. When Paula Deen’s racism was revealed a few years ago, the Atlanta Journal Constitution shared some poll results which indicated that most Georgians who participated in the poll had a higher regard for Deen than for MLK, and I suspect these results would be replicated if the poll were taken nationwide and all of the participants were right-wing nutjobs like those here in GA. I’ve lived in the south long enough to note that persons like these support others on the basis of race NOT accomplishments or contributions to society, and that they act NOT a citizens of a diverse nation but as members of a tribe.

I’d settle for a short story about how all the people who believe in Rapture get raptured and the rest of us live happily ever after.

Actually, we all go to heaven where there’s lots of great people and fun. Those schmoes have to stay on earth and work every day, barely surviving…the life many don’t have now. There’s no privilege. That’s for everyone in heaven. Just slave labor and suffering.

The same things they want for others right now.

How many days will it take to convert those folks who were left behind?

Good luck getting off his list. I don’t know how I got on but I really want Bernie and all the Bernie emails to go away.

I haven’t tried unsubscribing—now I’m nervous.

I swear, when it comes to political email lists, I’m on every freakin’ Dem list in the country—or so it seems. People I’ve never heard of in states I’ve never been to. I still know exactly what Tom Barrett is up to on a daily basis; and there are people running for county judge who really want me to be part of their story!/

re: #169 Decatur Deb

Just spent 3 hours listening to an Alabama Republican candidate for DA explain to Black community leaders why he should inherit the position of the most Jim Crow DA in the state. His repeated argument: “God is calling me through his son, Jesus.” Wife is pissed because she heard me mutter “then we should elect Christ”.

This is the saddest thing. People like that run for office.

Keep up the fight, I know you are.

I’d lean into the isle and fake puke if I heard that shit. (zero restraint - tell Mrs. Deb that you are very well behaved)

It’s so bad I don’t answer my phone - ever - if the number is unknown. I don’t answer it 95% of the time if I don’t recognize the number.

I’m FED UP with the constant barrage of calls for donations. Not a day goes by where someone isn’t calling for $. And almost every single time, I’ve never given that group anything in the past.

I’m tired. This election needs to end.

Oh. Just saw this on Steam but apparently they’ve released a new Baldur’s Gate expansion that takes place between 1 and 2 and bridges the two. Updated graphics etc and requires Baldur’s Gate enhanced edition which makes me wonder if they overhauled everything for that game too.

I wish I could do that (not answer the phone) but much of my work involves setting up meetings, so I get a lot of calls from unknown numbers and have to answer all of them. I’ve gotten pretty good at getting rid of the cranks in short order.

I’ve always looked at it like this: To have an enemy you must first agree to be an enemy. I came up with that line during the Bush admin as all he talked about were our enemies at home and abroad. Never liked the idea of labeling people as enemies.

re: #157 Barefoot Grin

ETA: this post is riddled with contradictions. please don’t read. I’m going to have to figure out what I meant in the morning. I think I hate Bernie but love him.

I wouldn’t sweat it. I kinda have similar feelings about Sanders, and I suspect most of the regulars do as well.
