Donald Trump Defends Call to Punish Women Who Have Abortions: ‘I Didn’t See Any Big Deal’

He said it, he didn’t say it, he said it but changed his mind, people thought what he said was terrific!

Trump in a nutshell.

Last week, GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump took several competing positions on abortion rights over a period of three days.

Trump, who was once adamantly pro-choice, said on Wednesday that “there has to be some form of punishment” for women who have abortions, only to claim later that day that he has never supported such a policy. Then, on Sunday, Trump declared that “we have to leave” current abortion laws in place, only to be again contradicted by his own campaign.

But the way conservative radio host Joe Pags sees it, Trump’s initial “punishment” comments were simply the result of a trap set by MSNBC in an effort to dislodge his candidacy. While speaking with Trump over the weekend, Pags said the candidate should have never even appeared on MSNBC “after what CNBC did in that one debate that was disgusting.”

Trump, interestingly enough, bragged about all the praise he received after saying that if abortion becomes illegal, women who have abortion should be punished.

“A lot of people thought my answer was excellent, by the way,” he told Pags. “There were a lot of people who thought that was a very good answer.”

He added that he “didn’t see any big deal” about the comments until they prompted “somewhat of a storm.”

If he can get away with constantly flirting with white supremacists while playing dumb, then flip-flopping on abortion is no big deal to his supporters.

Odds of a brawl (defined as four or more people throwing at least three punches and/or kicks) is currently set at 12:1. Over under for such a fight is the start of the third round of balloting (bets will be taken off if a nominee is determined before the third ballot).

I foresee street brawls. I think the streets will be punch palace. Not going to be pretty. And of course all the blame will go to “outside of the GOP” trouble makers. If Trump gets blocked, and the thugs he has courted show up, it’s going to be a long night.

Oh, in regards to my best friend, she doesn’t actually support anyone in the primaries.

She was just sharing things that she liked that she saw on his FB. In addition, she thinks that, even though I am knowledgeable on Politics, it should not be a career for me. Her opinion is that I am too personally involved, with my Imam saying the saying the same thing (though he thought in a while (decades), that might change). The Imam said that in regards to politics, between past treatment I have had from Republicans, and the fact that Norway keeps popping up every so often, that I am a bit damaged.

Imam was contacting someone in Dallas to help me find friends, and also stated that, once I am ready, when it is time to find me someone, he will make sure that I will be having an Imam or Family I am close to looking for someone for me directly. He said this will likely be better, as a lot of people may be put off by the awkward behaviour I can display sometimes.

Republican National Committee Issues Harsh Report on 2012 Election Failings

Nothing included in a new report by the Republican National Committee that analyzes its party’s 2012 election losses is new, but its bluntness shows RNC Chairman Reince Priebus is not interested in glossing over any problems.

“Young voters are increasingly rolling their eyes at what the party represents and many minorities wrongly think that Republicans do not like them or want them in the country,” the report says.

Every morning, they’re carted by wheelbarrow to a fenced-off forest area for survival classes. They’ll spend the next 7 or more years learning how to climb trees, make a nest of leaves, spot edible forest fruits and avoid predators. Their human minders take pains not to be overly affectionate with their adorable charges. These orphaned #orangutans — endangered apes native to rain forests in the Indonesian regions of Borneo and Sumatra — need to learn to avoid humans in preparation for their return to the jungle. But in Indonesia, their jungle is slowly disappearing. Over the years, thousands of square miles have been cleared for palm oil plantations. Last fall, huge fires — the worst on record — destroyed more than 10,000 square miles of forests. Among the losses: at least 9 orangutans. @kemaljufri traveled to the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation in Indonesia while on #nytassignment.

And speaking of scary Republican:

(per Charles P. Pierce)

First the intro, because it is a thing of beauty:

Tailgunner Ted Cruz is the candidate of The Bubble. He is the walking symbol of epistemic closure. He is the candidate you vote for to validate all the hours you spent watching the Fox News Channel and listening to the talk radio people, blissfully unaware of the inherent contradictions within and the fundamental absurdity of what you’re being sold. Cruz brags now that his campaign is unifying the Republican Party. “Five of the other candidates who ran against me are now supporting me,” he said. “All the way from them to Mike Lee and Mark Levin, we’ve got the whole spectrum of Republican politics.” Can’t argue with that. The whole spectrum, all the way from A to Aa.

Then the Cruz vuz on rape, which are as or more scary than anything TRUMP has mumbled. (And I love Pierce’s description of Ted getting ready to answer a question

Sentence-like structures ensued.

Rape is a horrific crime against the humanity of the person, and it needs to be punished severely. At the same time, as horrible as that crime is, I don’t believe it is the child’s fault…I don’t believe it makes sense to punish the child.

Oh, great, Federal Reserve in New York State is going to have a scandal.

In February 2016, instructions to steal US$951 Million from Bangladesh Bank, the central bank of Bangladesh, were issued. Five transactions issued by hackers or insiders worth $101 million from a Bangladesh Bank account at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York succeeded, with $20M traced to Sri Lanka (since recovered) and $81M to the Philippines. The international transfer desk of the intermediate bank, Deustche Bank, blocked a further $850 million in 35 transactions.[1]

Hackers or insiders (it is not yet clear which) attempted to steal $951 million from the Bangladesh central bank’s account with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York sometime between February 4-5 when Bangladesh Bank’s offices were closed. The perpetrators managed to compromise Bangladesh Bank’s system, to observe how transfers are done, and gained access to the bank’s credentials for payment transfers, which they used to send about three dozen requests to the FedBank to transfer funds to Sri Lanka and the Philippines. 35 transactions worth $851 million transfer were prevented by the banking system but five requests were granted; $20M to Sri Lanka (later recovered[6][7]), and $81 million lost to the Philippines, entering the Southeast Asian country’s banking system on February 5, 2016. This money was laundered through casinos and some later transferred to Hong Kong.

FireEye’s Mandiant forensics division is investigating the hacking case. Security experts stated that the perpetrators gained deep knowledge regarding the internal matters of Bangladesh Bank by spying on its workers. The government of Bangladesh is considering suing the Federal Reserve Bank in a bid to recover the stolen funds. The FedBank of New York maintains its systems have not been breached but says they have been working with Bangladesh Bank since the beginning of the incident.[6]

Letters to Donald, Part 9 (yes, it’s true: I have no life.):

His Honorableness Donald J. Trump
New York, NY

Dear Dr. Trump:

Hi! It’s me again! I wanted to write sooner, but I’ve been busy “serving the Internet,” as the kids call it. I know what they mean! The other day I went on the Internet, and five minutes later it was three days later.

I’m writing again, because, quite frankly, I see what’s going on - you’ve been taking some hits lately, to the point where Ted Cruise is threatening to overtake you in Wisconsin. What the heck is up with those Cheeseheads, anyway? Is it some sort of sinister revenge plot against you for taking Scott Walker out of the Presidential race? (This is just a modest suggestion here, but I’ll bet you could get back on the Wisconites’ good side by promising to ban Velveeta!)

I’ve also noticed that you’ve been taking all these hits since I stopped writing. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see the correlation between the two! And I’m not one!
And so I wanted to make a few suggestions for further consideration by your campaign. I wanted to give these to you in person when you were in my town, but you know, “a-n-k-e-l b-r-a-c-e-l-e-t.” (I got one that if I go outside my zone it gives off a wail like a constipated banshee!)

But I’ve got so MANY ideas my neurons are practically screaming to get out of my head, so I thought I’d send a few of them your way. As always, there’s no charge for these. Whatever little roll I can play to help DONALD J. TRUMP get elected is enough for me!

It’s pretty obvious to everyone by now that the hoy polloy are doing whatever they can to steal the nomination away from you. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that you need to fight back, like you’ve done in your HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of lawsuits!

1) You need to start Tweeting about Paul Ryan, and fast. Like you did with Ted. Wife, kids, dog, they’re all fair game. Just as long as you don’t kill ‘em anything goes! Did you know that he once drove the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile? It’s true! That would have been an AWESOME thing to bring up when you guys were all talking about each other’s penisses.

2) Abortion. It’s a touchy subject, and I don’t see why you should be penalized for having five or six different positions. You just need to keep repeating ALL the positions; then you can just say what politicians usually say when they’re caught like that, that your position is revolving over time .

3) Your rallies. There have been a few “incidents” at some of your rallies that people are getting all bent out of shape over. Obviously, your very well- behaved audience is NOT the problem! So, you should consider at your next big rally to make it Free Frying Pan Night. I can pretty much guarantee that’ll solve the problem. “Free Gun Night” would also work, probably, but it might be overkill.

4) Keep going after the celebrity endorsements. So far you’ve snagged the endorsement of such respected celebrities as Pete Rose, Dennis Rodman, Tila Tequila, Theresa Giuduce, Ted Nugent (ROCK ‘N’ ROLL WANG DANG SWEET POONTANG YEAH!!), Hulk Hogan, Louis Farrakhan, David Duke and Willie Robertson! That’s an AWSOME start! I see that you also got one of the lesser Baldwins. I’m sure it wouldn’t take much effort to work yourself up to Alec. He’s a New Yorker too, and you guys were MADE for each other!

I think that will do it for this time around. It looks like I’ve written onto a second page, which I really didn’t want to do, but I just couldn’t decide which idea was the least greatest. The guy down at the store told me that if you write too much you could run out of font, and believe me, that’s the last thing I want to do!

Your #2 Fan,
Bong J. Crodny

P.S. Vote Donald - and think “V.D.!”

Goodmorning! Those who study freediving learn that the perception of our need to breathe so often can be overcome by a calm mind and a feeling of connectedness with the water. With practice, we can override the urge to draw in a deep breath after only a few seconds, and extend our stay beneath the surface to minutes at a time. Discovering this head space is a door to a special kind of freedom - one where we have time to stay and play in a world where movements are possible that we could never manage on land. #swimmers #underwater #pool

Mississippi RV park owner evicts interracial couple

BLUF: Married couple, she is Native American/Latino and he’s Black. He’s a SGT in the National Guard. Moved into an RV park, she had done the paperwork, but were evicted once the manager found out they were an interracial couple.

TUPELO — A Mississippi RV park owner evicted an interracial couple because of the color of their skin.

“Me and my husband, not ever in 10 years have we experienced any problem,” said Erica Flores Dunahoo, who is Hispanic and Native American and whose husband, a National Guardsman, is African-American. “Nobody’s given us dirty looks. This is our first time.”

More than a half-century after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 barred discrimination on the basis of race, Gene Baker acknowledged asking the interracial couple to leave his RV park near Tupelo.

Baker, who lives in Aberdeen, said he only did it because “the neighbors were giving me such a problem.”

Living in Tennessee, you can understand why our unofficial state motto is “Thank God For Mississippi”.

I was about to write a comment saying that Sanders wasn’t asked specifically about the Newtown massacre when he said gun manufacturers should be protected from lawsuits.

But then I read the full transcript of the NY Daily News interview, and yes, he really was asked specifically about that case.

Daily News: There’s a case currently waiting to be ruled on in Connecticut. The victims of the Sandy Hook massacre are looking to have the right to sue for damages the manufacturers of the weapons. Do you think that that is something that should be expanded?

Sanders: Do I think the victims of a crime with a gun should be able to sue the manufacturer, is that your question?

Daily News: Correct.

Sanders: No, I don’t.

Daily News: Let me ask you. I know we’re short on time. Two quick questions. Your website talks about…

Sanders: No, let me just…I’m sorry. In the same sense that if you’re a gun dealer and you sell me a gun and I go out and I kill him [gestures to someone in room]…. Do I think that that gun dealer should be sued for selling me a legal product that he misused? [Shakes head no.] But I do believe that gun manufacturers and gun dealers should be able to be sued when they should know that guns are going into the hands of wrong people. So if somebody walks in and says, “I’d like 10,000 rounds of ammunition,” you know, well, you might be suspicious about that. So I think there are grounds for those suits, but not if you sell me a legal product.

This is bad thinking.

This past weekend, @bdentonphoto traveled to Palmyra, Syria, to see what remained of its archaeological treasures after almost a year of ISIS control. He joined a group of Hezbollah militiamen, who were eager to show that their group had helped rescue Palmyra, a site important to world heritage. “Where Palmyra’s impressive Temple of Bel once stood, only a single stone archway was left to frame a rectangle of blue sky above the arid desert about 160 miles northeast of Damascus, the capital,” @bdentonphoto writes. He continues: “Amid the ruins, we heard repeated booms emanating from the city center, where plumes of smoke and dust rose into the desert sky. My Hezbollah escort and Syrian soldiers explained that explosive-disposal teams were clearing mines left behind by retreating Islamic State fighters.”

Sorry, but don’t agree. When a manufacturer makes a product that gets criminally abused they should not face liability. Not cars, boats, guns or anything else. Not poison, not fertilizer or diesel oil. It’s a workaround on failed gun control, and as such awkward and inappropriate precedent.

I don’t see it that way. As long as the manufacture and sale of a gun is legal and there is no reason to suspect funny business with a sale (e.g., obvious straw sale etc), then neither the maker nor the seller should be legally liable if the purchaser commits a crime with the gun, IMO.

I’m no fan of US gun culture, but I think it better to tackle the issue head on via heavier restrictions on what can be legal to own/use and better record keeping than by introducing a significantly unpleasant and novel concept of vicarious liability.

I realize that nothing is going to happen, but this vicarious liability stuff seems more likely to fuel NRA propaganda than it is to do anything useful. Should we hold Honda liable if one of its vehicles is used to perpetrate a vehicular homicide?

Hunting = killing things.

Target shooting = making sure you either hit what you’re trying to kill or don’t hit what you’re not trying to kill.

Guns, as a tool, have one purpose. More efficient killing. I can acknowledge that because I don’t have an emotional attachment to them as a hobby.

It really is the only industry where people die - regularly - as a result of the product being used as intended and yet we do diddly-squat about it. Meanwhile, one child ends up in the hospital over a toy and they’re all recalled and the manufacturer could very well be liable. Hell, look at where cigarettes are now.

Do I think these lawsuits have much chance of succeeding? Not really. But I think the claims deserve to be heard and blanket immunity is idiotic.

re: #143 Great White Snark

I kind of split the difference. I see no real reason why gun manufacturers should have absolute immunity from lawsuits under the law when car manufacturers don’t. On the other and I don’t think illegal use should result in a judgement by itself.

Take Paul Walker’s daughter’s suit against Porsche, it was allowed to go forward and a Judge ruled Porsche not at fault. In order to win the complaint had to prove that Porsche had created the car in a way that subverted the regulatory scheme. The courts would presumably hold the same standard in any firearm manufacturer lawsuit.

In fact prior to the federal immunity law that’s how we got many improvements to firearm safety like the transfer bar and cross bolt safety mechanisms, loaded chamber indicators and magazine disconnects. These lawsuit resultant safety improvements annoyed many purists but undoubtedly prevented some accidental discharges and some people are certainly still alive as a result.

Unless you are a vegetarian, an animal dies for your meat. Hunting is a completely legit need for a gun, especially where subsidence hunting is what feeds you. Target shooting is a sport no more related to killing that some Olympic sports. Javelin etc.

The word you want is subsistence. Not subsidence.

Again, I have no emotional attachment to the need to have a gun. I see no reason why people should not be able to have them with the appropriate restrictions.

I do object to the current situation, as it presents a public health issue.

The innate unfairness of such a claim is what should protect them all. Cars, guns, trucks used in bombs etc. Gun maker liability is a rather obvious bullshit workaround proposed only because actual legislative criminal rules have not been passed or enforced well. Shall we hold Glock or Smith and Wesson accountable when a young black kid is wrongly killed by a policeman? Why not, if maker liability can be invented out of thin air over criminal misuse.

Expecting Sanders a Senator from a very rural state to share Manhattan city or California legislature style gun control policy is nonsensical. Even the bird knew better than that.

Wonder how the Donald is going to explain how Kasich is keeping him down when his and Kasich’s totals together don’t equal Cruz’s.

Right spell check fail on my part. We agree the violence must be reduced. We see how to do that very differently. I’m not throwing up my hands and giving up in the face of the likes of the NRA or due to opposite extreme proposals like a new background check every time I buy a bullet. (Proposed by Gavin Newsom here in Ca) Sensible solutions are available, it’s on us to pass and enforce them.

And the NRA has pretty much kept the CDC from studying the issue. In the last debate, I thought Bernie’s answer was even stupider—i.e., if you put restrictions on gun manufacturers, you’ll drive them out of the US.

Ted Cruz is freaking slime.

Why does he always smile his creepy “I just may be handing you a load of bullshit” smile and little tee-hee-hee laugh after every oh-so-dramatic statement out of his mouth. It just smacks of insincerity.

Apparently it works for Wisconsin.

99. something percent of the time, (perhaps outside of the military) guns are not used at all, just in target shooting or hunting. One can acknowledge the nature of the tool but then should also recognize the most common uses by far.

Why is a handgun/pistol/revolver one of the most commonly used tools used in crime?

Also the preferred tool for suicide.

I think it is too safe to utter those words in the face of the facts that it almost assured that nothing as far as regulation and enforcement is probably ever going to happen. I think those are just excuses backed by the fact that nothing is being done. But that is my opinion. I do think you know that though. So in that light it is easy just to say we need to do something when we do nothing.

Would you be up for going into a home of a gun owner that took his pistol and shot and killed family members and explaining all those points to the remaining family and friends? And if not, why not?

You have all your statistics to back you up.

And would you face the same type of problems explaining the statistics of cars to a family that was killed in a car accident? If not, why not?

All the statistics are the for cars too.

I would suggest the people affected are not going to buy the common use argument that guns are not used to kill humans. Especially pistols/handguns/revolvers.

And speaking of handguns. Why did the police have to go to semi-auto pistols when they used to use revolvers? Could it be the common use of pistols increased the odds against them on the streets? Why is that? They aren’t defending themselves from hunters and target shooters.

By the way…you know I am a car lover. I am offended when cars are compared to guns. Deaths in cars happen in completely different ways. I can’t drive my car into a bank, jewlery or convenience store and use it to force them to give me all their money.

Why is that?
