CO Planned Parenthood Shooter Admired Anti-Choice Murderer Paul Hill

And he was directly inspired by David Daleiden’s fraudulent videos

Anti-choice terrorist Robert Lewis Dear (El Paso County Sheriff’s Office)

Newly released court documents in the case of Robert Lewis Dear, who confessed to murdering three people at the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood office last November, reveal that Dear wanted to emulate his hero — Paul Hill, an anti-choice terrorist executed in 2003 for the 1994 murders of a doctor and his bodyguard in Pensacola, Florida.

Dear was also directly inspired to commit his murderous attack on Planned Parenthood by the discredited videos created by David Daleiden and his Center for Medical Progress:

Robert Dear told police he attacked the clinic in Colorado Springs because he was upset with the reproductive health organization for “the selling of baby parts,” according to the documents which give the deepest look yet into his seething disdain for abortion providers. Dear also told investigators he put glue in the locks at an abortion clinic when he lived in South Carolina, a common protest technique among activists trying to shut down such facilities.

He planned to blow up the clinic by setting up propane tanks and shooting at them; although he did shoot at the tanks, luckily they failed to explode.

Dear also said he would be rewarded by God for his murderous rampage.

During an interview in which he repeatedly recited Bible passages, Dear told police he dreamed he would be “met by all the aborted fetuses at the gates of heaven and they would thank him for what he did because his actions saved lives of other unborn fetuses,” the documents say. “He was happy with what he had done because his actions … ensured that no more abortions would be conducted at the Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado Springs,” which has since reopened.

It was pretty obvious from the beginning that this was a case of anti-choice terrorism, but let’s not forget that right wing media and politicians immediately tried to deny the connections and deflect blame — even, in the case of Ted Cruz, trying to say Dear was a “transgendered left wing activist.”

“You’ll never know what I saw in that clinic. Atrocities. The babies. That’s what they want to seal,” Dear shouted at one point, prompting a deputy to squeeze his shoulder in an effort to quiet him.

As I understand it, Dear never got past the vestibule, so he didn’t see anything other than the front doors and walls.

OK, but what exactly motivated Dear? I guess we’ll never really know. Just a crazy, lone-wolf. Probably liberal.

I suspect if he’d been allowed to speak, what would come forth would be a hash of the mythology of pro-“life” people. It’s not that he saw anything, it’s that he’s so convinced that it’s true that his expectations trump reality. The “truth” is what he and his fellow travellers believe, and can’t be contradicted. It’s an episteme in which the only measure of veracity is affiliation.

This is why the enclosed culture of the right wing is scary. There might be cynics and profiteers coming up with this stuff, but the rest actually believe it and respond accordingly. Of course politics is not happening as normal—they believe the rest of the country are actively, irredeemably evil.

McCrory wants lawmakers to reverse part of HB2

Gov. Pat McCrory says the General Assembly should reverse a portion of the recently passed House Bill 2 but leave in place provisions that deal with locker room and restroom usage.

Specifically, the governor called on lawmakers to reverse a part of the law, known as the Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act, which prevents North Carolina workers who believe they’ve been wrongfully fired due to sex, age, race or gender from suing in state court.

“I will immediately seek legislation in the upcoming short session to reinstate the right to sue for discrimination in North Carolina state courts,” McCrory said in a video announcement Tuesday. “Simply put, I have listened to the people of North Carolina, and the people of North Carolina are entitled to both privacy and equality. We can and we must achieve both of these goals.”

Hey! Just getting back in from taking photos all day long. Beautiful weather around central Ohio today…so I gotta make hay while the sun shines.

I was reading a bot of the morning comments and I see there was some more discussion about Hillary and her bags full of negatives, etc.

I look at all that as just more experience. From what we have seen of Bernie, he gets a bit upset when poked a bit…so I don’t think he has the thick skin of Hillary.

And I shall never forget her making Trey Goudy and the rest of the BEHGHAZI committee sweat while she sat cool and collected for 11 hours.

So…I look at Hillary like she is The Honey Badger.

She’s pretty badass. She don’t give a shit.

So when the Republican cobras try to strike her, she will just grab that nasty snake by the neck and bite it to death. All those bee stings she takes while going after the political honey won’t matter.

(I don’t know why, but that came to me while reading the comments.)

By the way, has lawhawk been around lately? Haven’t noticed any posts for a few days.

The man’s no fool. He’s young, he’s respected in his party, and he would be forever radioactive to the base if he swooped into an election he could not, in any case, actually win.

Put your head down, try to divorce the house agenda from whichever gross nominee emerges from Cleveland, and (if you ever even want to) focus on 2020 or 2024.

That’s the part of #nevertrump that is never addressed: exactly what draftee would accept this mantle? It would need to be some sort of elder statesman who won’t be running for anything else ever again, and they pretty much already tried those in 2008 and 2012.

I never understood why we don’t just call them kamikazes. That’s the most historically relevant and accurate term for the tactic. After all, nobody calls tsunamis “tidal waves” anymore because we came to understand that terminology inherently falls short of being an accurate description of the phenomenon.

After all, nobody calls tsunamis “tidal waves” anymore because we came to understand that terminology inherently falls short of being an accurate description of the phenomenon.

There’s actually been some interesting pushback on this over the last decade. After the Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004, and especially after the one in Japan four or five years ago, we finally have a lot of good, high-quality video of what these events look like.

And you know what? The damned things do look for all the world like a tide gone mad. The description “tidal wave” is certainly a de facto misnomer because tides are not involved, but that doesn’t render it a useless description.

Laypeople can really grasp and understand the phenomena in a way that was previously impossible. You’re not going to get crushed against a tree by a wall of water, you’re just facing an inexorable, inescapable, seemingly unending surge.

Certainly, they look nothing like what we put on our signage:

Max Pinckers’ series Two Kinds of Memory and Memory Itself looks at the strange place Japan holds in the collective mind of the West. Projected as other and isolated, Japan’s unique self image is in part self-created under the project of nation building, as well as being a construct of outside perspective and popular fetishisation. Japan is a target for Western fantasies, often informed by clichés of barrel chested Yakuza, manicured bonsais, cosplayers, wasted bankers, and sumo’s. On his arrival in Japan Pinckers found little evidence of these motifs and none of these preconceived elements seemed to be the most culturally predominant.
This conflicting experience resulted in him searching for these constructs within the contemporary Japanese landscape, creating staged scenes influenced by cliché and by existing images created by foreigners.
Photographs from this series will be on show at New Blood: Magnum Photos at @Milk Gallery in New York, April 13 – May 8.

Just confirming what OA said above. Even if you’re not over capacity in terms of stored emails, the server is going to reject oversized emails (based on its configuration) before they can reach your mailbox, which is why the bounce message mentioned the size.

I just can’t figure out why some of the files are so big—it’s the same 3-page pdf; some come through as around 300KB, some as 3,000, and one that somebody tried to send me today was 15,000. Could it be because of how they’re scanning them?

Regarding #EqualPayDay

I got to thinking about the shit tons of overtime that I have put in over the course of my career. I missed my kids’ birthdays, my own birthday, grandkids’ bar mitzvahs, and MY OWN “SURPRISE” 20TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY PARTY which my kids planned and carefully prepared and waited and waited and waited for me to come home from work where I was restoring a system image from a backup.

I came home at 11:00 after they cried themselves to sleep.

Fuck Baby Whiplash and the rest of his “he man” club with a dozen cowshit-covered pitchforks for saying Teh Wimmens Don’t Works as Hard as Teh Mans That’s Why They Shouldn’t Get Teh Same Moneys!!

Abortion wasn’t much of an issue for Protestant evangelicals until well after Roe v Wade
Before that, Catholics had a virtual monopoly on religious anti-choice agitation
With the Reagan sponsored rise of the religious right, fundy leaders apparently saw it as a good opportunity to gin up a politically useful wedge issue.

I just cannot imagine how it would be to have such a world view as this. It actually makes me very sad and depressed how some people can go through life thinking like this. Where does it come from? I know mental health issues can be a trite answer, but as a society how does someone get to this point?

I’ve had people do all kinds of unexpected weird crap. Like asking them to fill out a Word doc and having them do so, then print it out, scan it, and sent it to me as a mulit-page TIFF. I kid you not. Or sending a client a PDF for proofreading and instead of using the tools in Acrobat (which I know they have), they print the pages with errors/changes, mark them up with red ink, scan them, and send them back as a PDF.

I hear ya. My original idea was to have them sent to my boss and let him deal with it. Then he came up with this elaborate plan for aggregating the forms and sending them with something called Hightail to password protect them, but I don’t have/want a Hightail account. He offered to buy it for me, but I passed. (which wouldn’t have solved this problem anyway)

The whole thing is just one more level of idiocy on a project I really hoped we wouldn’t get to begin with!

Before that, Catholics had a virtual monopoly on religious anti-choice agitation
With the Reagan sponsored rise of the religious right, fundy leaders apparently saw it as a good opportunity to gin up a politically useful wedge issue.

Conservatives adopted the “Pro-Life” cause because they realized white supremacy was too unsavory.

From the article:

This myth of origins is oft repeated by the movement’s leaders. In his 2005 book, Jerry Falwell, the firebrand fundamentalist preacher, recounts his distress upon reading about the ruling in the Jan. 23, 1973, edition of the Lynchburg News: “I sat there staring at the Roe v. Wade story,” Falwell writes, “growing more and more fearful of the consequences of the Supreme Court’s act and wondering why so few voices had been raised against it.” Evangelicals, he decided, needed to organize.

Some of these anti- Roe crusaders even went so far as to call themselves “new abolitionists,” invoking their antebellum predecessors who had fought to eradicate slavery.

But the abortion myth quickly collapses under historical scrutiny. In fact, it wasn’t until 1979—a full six years after Roe—that evangelical leaders, at the behest of conservative activist Paul Weyrich, seized on abortion not for moral reasons, but as a rallying-cry to deny President Jimmy Carter a second term. Why? Because the anti-abortion crusade was more palatable than the religious right’s real motive: protecting segregated schools. So much for the new abolitionism.

The original issue for the religious right was tax exempt status for “religious” private schools. Abortion came later.

Hillary’s WaPo Interview….
washingtonpost.com

Wowza!!!! I didn’t think I was going to read the whole interview (it’s long, wasn’t sure I had time) but boy, I’m glad I did. This was the most comprehensive & interesting policy position I’ve ever seen. Every issue seems doable, even in our current congressional climate. She is simply the most well-informed knowledgeable candidate we’ve had in a long time. For me, Pres. Obama will always be my favorite, but she can skip right over the learning curve he had when he first entered office. Now, I don’t particularly “like” Hillary, but dayum - she’ll make a hell of a president. She’s not a caricature, she’s not “bought & paid for”, she’s a woman who has gotten very far because of smarts & savvy in a brutal environment. Has she made mistakes? Yes, but I don’t hold my leaders to a standard that I can’t even match. Go Hills!

I actually have a book written by Leo Rosten way back when which was about Religions in America, and looking at the section on Baptists at the time they were very non-commital. When I get a chance, I’ll look up it’s published date and see if it before or after Roe v. Wade (and by how much)
