Corey Lewandowski Says He Won’t Apologize to Michelle Fields, Won’t Acknowledge Touching Her

He feels like he’s untouchable
Politics • Views: 56,365
Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski

He got away with assaulting Michelle Fields and now he’s once again denying he even touched her: Corey Lewandowski says he won’t apologize to Michelle Fields.

“Do you now acknowledge that you did touch Ms. Fields and that she is not delusional?” Wallace asked.

“Well, no,” Lewandowski said. “What I acknowledge is the sum total of my relationship with Ms. Fields was caught on that videotape. She’s an individual I had never met before, had never spoken to before.”

The campaign manager insisted that the exchange was neither violent, nor “memorable.”

“The whole incident lasted less than three seconds and was me moving from one location to another location,” he told Wallace. “I would have remembered if I had tried to violently throw someone to the ground or if there were an incident that would have been memorable. And there wasn’t.”

This is what you get when you have mercy on a bully. They smile and pretend to be gracious, then as soon as they’re not under the gun anymore, they go right back to their loathsome habits.

The right wing authoritarian strategy of keep digging and denying until the end has worked out for them for decades so why should they stop now?

9
Charles Johnson  Apr 17, 2016 • 6:49:39pm

Erickson is complaining about the hatred in his Twitter timeline too - and he’s also been targeted for going off the reservation and criticizing Donald Trump.

The right wing eats its own, if they start to think for themselves. Always.

I saw this coming. It’s why I publicly renounced the right years ago.

At this point I have to wonder if Michelle Fields will learn a hard lesson about how valueless women are in the right wing movement.

Fox News hires a lot of women, so the misogyny is the fault of only a few bad apples.

Right-wingers are terrified of independent thought. Controlling the information flow is how they maintain their power. They use public shaming as their tool for enforcing groupthink. Once you stop being afraid of what your friends and family think of you, they don’t control you anymore.

Kind of on the topic of my first post in this thread, but - I’ve heard of a couple of people recently who committed suicide due to abusive bullying. That’s exactly what this Lewandowski incident strikes me as - perhaps some on the misogynistic side, but it’s bullying and physical intimidation. I was a nerd growing up in school, so I can well empathize with those who suffer physically and mentally/emotionally at the hands of those who seek control. People think it’s no big deal, everyone deals with it, just brush it off and ignore it, but it’s not that easy and many people don’t realize just how close to the edge some of us come while suffering through it. It inflicts a form of PTSD that is most insidious because nobody will take it seriously as a problem that needs addressing. And if you do take your own life, everyone is left baffled as to why. Routine physical and mental abuse is not okay, and it isn’t to be brushed off as irrelevant or “just something everyone deals with”.

There’s no way out of that part of the system. Raising political stature enough to win most state-wide races requires large amounts of money. Especially in states with major media markets.

Though that would be tough, given that sanders has to make a good showing this Tuesday and next to be able to compete in California. The Golden State is the most expensive state to compete in, bar none. Three major media markets, and at least two others of notable size make reaching California voters very costly. It’s also a big state so transportation costs are an issue as well.

goddamnedfrank  Apr 17, 2016 • 9:30:50pm

This article sums up my feelings exactly. It’s fairly long but incredibly well written and reads quickly. I highly recommend it:

On Becoming Anti-Bernie

When I saw that the estimates were based on the assumption that the U.S. economy would have an average growth at a 5% rate over his term, that was it for me. And the reason is this: when Jeb! announced he was running for President, he declared that his plan would result in a 4% economic growth rate — and the other GOP presidential contenders quickly followed suit. The Republican candidates’ claims that they “would” do this had been derided on all the same left-leaning blog sites I was now looking at to help assess Sanders. The 4% assertion had been dismissed as “magical thinking” — or in more straightforward terms, “pulled out of Bush’s ass.” There was no precedent for a sustained growth rate that high; commentators pointed out that Reagan had achieved 4% twice in eight years, and Bill Clinton, five times, but 4% growth four years running? Never happened — and that was in better economic environments. Sanders’ 5% number was even more magical than Jeb!’s. And so the entire basis of Sanders’ promises for (promises I wanted to believe) was a historically unprecedented assumption. You can’t base a radical re-imagination of the U.S. economy and the imposition of the largest tax increases in U.S. history on made-up numbers. Sanders was able to find a single economist to weigh in positively on his plan, but that analysis was ripped to shreds by most others, who showed that Sanders’ plan doesn’t add up on its own terms (estimates are something like a $1-2 trillion shortfall even at the 5% growth assumption). So I concluded that the backbone of Sanders’ plan is founded on, functionally, a lie.

That led me to more research. I concluded that the fact that Sanders only got three bills through Congress (two of which were for naming post offices) wasn’t the only meaningful measure, so I looked at the legislation he introduced during his senate career. It turns out that, every year, year after year, he introduced the same legislation to make a point, and no one else ever seems to have signed on to it. To me, this looked like showmanship rather than governance — an exercise designed to highlight his own support for a very progressive agenda. The hard work is to draft a bill that your co-legislators can get behind, in the political climate that exists and in the place where you work. I concluded that Sanders was less interested in actually accomplishing anything than he was in staging protests where he could claim some kind of moral high ground, not interested in getting in the weeds and doing anything to actually achieve his goals within the Congress he worked in. This research put Sanders’ supposedly pristine progressive agenda in perspective: it is very easy to maintain that agenda if you never make the hard choices necessary to get things done. Classic protester — yet handily collecting his $200,000 pay check and his lifetime of benefits while doing little to enact actual progressive policies to improve people’s lives.

I did more research than the above, but the two overarching themes I just described (magical thinking and ideological purity over practicality) seem tied together in terms of what Sanders has to offer the country with respect to governance. Further, those themes reveal a person who, while he has deep convictions about the ills of income inequality (which I wholeheartedly share), seems to be constitutionally incapable or unwilling to undertake the difficult task of actually coming up with workable, meaningful legislation and therefore who, in his own way, actually lacks character. What I started to see, and which seems to be on view more and more as this campaign goes on, is a person and a campaign that is intellectually and actually dishonest, hypocritical and sanctimonious, sexist, unprepared, lazy, cultish, and dangerous — and he has a poor temperament to boot.

Dilma’s in trouble down in Brazil.

Brazil’s lower house has voted to start impeachment proceedings against President Dilma Rousseff over charges of manipulating government accounts.

The “yes” camp comfortably won the required two-thirds majority, after a lengthy session in the capital.

The motion will now be sent to the upper house, the Senate, which is expected to suspend Ms Rousseff while it carries out a formal trial.

She denies the charges, and accuses her opponents of mounting a “coup”.

Brazil’s governing Workers’ Party said “the fight continues now in the Senate”, which is expected to consider the case in May.

They have a paltry line up of preferred candidate. Many of them are in safe, deep blue districts.

That is not going to get the job done.

And of the three that Bernie’s touting, two are primarying other Dems who, I guess, aren’t pure enough for the REVOLUTION.

Electoral college votes don’t matter in primary polling. The poll in that tweet is of New York, and including Independents in a poll of a closed primary State gives the impression that the race there is much tighter than it actually is.

Lions in Namibia seem to attack livestock on white-supremacist ranches more than on ranches where there are better relationships between owners and workers. Does this mean lions hate racists?

Maybe, but there’s more to the story.

What we discovered was there were farms where the managers were both racist and violent towards their workers, which demotivated employees to perform well at their jobs. Racist managers also tended not to see the benefits of training their staff in more effective livestock husbandry, meaning employees were not skilled in protecting their cows and sheep from predators.

Workers sometimes stole livestock to sell on for profit and told the farmer that a predator had come in the night

Many of the workers were also very poorly educated and some didn’t even know how to count properly. The farmer was asking the workers to go out and move a 250-herd of cattle from one field to another and check that none had been left behind, but you cannot expect them to do that if they can’t count to 100. This meant the livestock that were left behind were more likely to be eaten by predators.

bbc.com

Moral: Treat your workers like fellow human beings, and they’ll do a good job. Treat them like shit, and you get what you deserve.

Simba says so.

The Pentagon misled Congress with inaccurate and vague information about sexual assault cases that portrayed civilian law enforcement officials as less willing than military commanders to punish sex offenders, an Associated Press investigation found.

Local district attorneys and police forces failed to act against U.S. service members who were subsequently prosecuted in military courts for sex crimes, according to internal government records that summarized the outcomes of dozens of cases. But in a number of cases, the steps taken by civilian authorities were described incorrectly or omitted. Other case descriptions were too imprecise to be verified.

There also is nothing in the records that supports the primary reason the Pentagon told Congress about the cases in the first place: To show top military brass as hard-nosed crime fighters who insisted on taking the cases to trial.

re: #64 Dark_Falcon

So if Hillary beats Sanders soundly in the Empire Primary on Tuesday, do folks think that will finally put Sanders away? Or will she need to wait till the Keystone State votes next week to do that?

Not a question of if. Or even when, but by how much. All the polls are showing Hillary up by at least 10 points, and they’ve been trending wider, not narrowing the gap (latest post debate poll show Hillary up 15). Problem for Bernie is that he can’t just win narrow. He needs blowout wins by at least 15 points from here on out, and his problem is that he’s losing all the major upcoming states by that margin.

He’s got to get 30 point turnarounds, and it just isn’t going to happen. Less than 24 hours before NY goes to the poll and he’s going to not only lose ground to Hillary, but Hillary’s going to get oh so close to 2,383 after supers are included. And once the supers see that she’s in that position (which she’s frankly been since Super Tuesday), they’re going to seal the deal no matter how much Bernie fans whine - and in particular people like Shaun King will complain bitterly about how the system oppresses or is stacked in Hillary’s favor, even though it’s been designed this way since after 1968 and Hillary’s doing to Bernie what Obama did to Hillary 8 years ago.

Basic math.

An addendum - except 8 years ago, Hillary had a short lived lead in delegates, but Obama ended up taking it on delegates.

Bernie has never been ahead in total votes, delegates, or super delegates. And of those three, it’s only the latter 2 that ultimately count - 2,383.

I think that tune might change after tomorrow’s blowout in NY. Reality is a harsh mistress, and while he thinks that he’s got a chance, his odds significantly go down losing to Hillary tomorrow.

All that talk of momentum will go up in flames as NY overwhelms whatever “momentum” Bernie had winning a bunch of states with far fewer delegates at stake than NY.

And Bernie’s about to run into a buzzsaw of states that favor Hillary by at least NY margins, which only adds to Hillary’s tally (and inevitability of the nomination, which frankly has been the case since Super Tuesday).

After a full week and weekend of media concern over both parties’ primary processes I am wondering if the concern will last past the primary season and we see some demanding for reform of the process. Or, will it all be forgotten as just nothing but media hyperventilation?

I have a feeling it will just be forgotten. And then they can use it again in the next election if needed. Then they can say…”we never learned anything from 2016!”

When in fact they never learned anything from 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012.

This is what Rummy’s worried about - that he’s not going to live to see a flat tax. Like so many of the rest of the GOP, they’re in economic fantasy land, where the consequences of these tax policies is massive deficits and shifting the burdens from the rich on to everyone else - those least able to afford the burdens.

We got 3 in” outside of Austin through this event. Getting ready to come down again. Luckily there has been no real flooding here in this area. LaGrange, which is between here and Houston got about 10” last nite.

*facepalm* Did they all go to LAUSD?

Are you a free-spirited Californian who wanted to stick it to the brah by saying, “Nah, thanks brah,” to political parties and registering as an independent? You might have been one of the tens of thousands of state voters who accidentally registered for the American Independent Party (AIP)—an ultra conservative fringe party that supports, among other things, “Our Great Pro-Life Constitution.”

An L.A. Times investigation found that three in four registered AIP members didn’t actually intend to register for the party, including a number of left-leaning celebrities like Demi Moore, Kaley Cuoco, and Emma Stone.

“The views of this party do not accurately reflect my personal beliefs and I am not affiliated with any political party,” said Cuoco. “As such, I am taking the necessary steps to immediately remove my name as a member of this voting party.”

“Demi Moore is not, nor has ever been, a member of the American Independent Party,” said one of Moore’s reps. Stone also confirmed to the Times that the actress plans to re-register before the June election.

Tax prep software makes computing the taxes even easier, and that same software can even port all the W2 and other various forms into the software, so that it takes all of an hour or two to do. It would take longer, obviously if you have more complex issues, or you haven’t been collecting and keeping your tax related documents all along during the tax year.

What would make filing even easier? Adopting a system where the IRS, which already has most of the information you’re entering on your own 1040, sends you an already completed form, which you check off or modify based on other specific circumstances, like death in family, birth of children, other income not identified in the sources, local taxes, etc. But that kind of system would be opposed by tax prep companies that need to make people feel like they’ve got to file with them, or with tax prep software that charges people to file electronically, which also constitutes an undue burden on the poor, who may have to shell out money for the software which should be free, or they file by paper, which delays their returns or allows the insertion of math/transcription errors.

The GOP answer to all this is #GOPMath, which is to say, complete BS. Cut funding to the IRS, making their job of administering and enforcing the tax code even more difficult, and making them do even more with less. IT demands are even greater than ever before for the IRS, but the GOP keeps cutting the budget to the IRS.

Their “solution” for sales tax doesn’t reduce complexity of the tax code, and actually makes it even more difficult - since there are states that don’t have sales tax, and the sales tax is highly regressive. There’s also the question of what forms the tax base.

And don’t get me started with Cruz’s notion of a VAT, which is even more complex, and Puerto Rico is grappling with that possibility, though there’s a delay in VAT implementation, and it is just as complex as the system that they GOP is trying to replace.

A VAT would be onerous on businesses, to an even greater extent than at present, especially at implementation.

Ultimately, the GOP plan is to shift the burdens from the rich on to everyone else.

Yup. There are any number of efile methods, and most of them are fairly painless to use.

Of course, the GOP thinks this is the worst.

They seem to think that withholding tax is a crime too - as in we should get hit with a regular tax bill so we know exactly how much we’re spending on taxes.

They make much of the fact that if you’re getting a big refund back, you’ve given the government an interest-free loan, but they ignore the benefits of this to the nation as a whole.

The larger part of Bernie support are not democrats, so why should they support one? I get why the won’t vote for her. They believe, and I believe, both parties are corrupt and are only in it for the rich. They no longer support us, the bulk of Americans.

I don’t get it. She’s a smart woman. But this absolutely made no sense and was factually incorrect. Obama and Dems are only in it for the rich by passing and signing the ACA, which insures millions more including the poor, minorities, and immigrants. //

The ACA also puts a whole lot of money into the coffers of private for-profit insurance companies. I’m not a big fan of that either. However it is a start and much good has come from it. I personally benefit from it and much appreciate the Dem party for getting us this far.

Another reason I can’t be a RWNJ. What’s so terribly complicated about the existing system, especially if you have one income source? I always get money back anyway.

And what exactly does getting rid of the IRS accomplish? There would still need to be some department of government to determine that a taxpayer was reporting all their income, etc.

Morans.

I think they just want to “uncomplicate” it for themselves. As in they have so many things they have to do to hide income from being taxed or writing off this or that to again reduce their taxes that they want a simple flat tax so all they have to pay is the same low amount they currently have to pay accountants to figure out for them rather than what they SHOULD be paying.

I can’t speak for the rest of the city (also Houston) but I called in this morning and stayed home. Oh, I tried. I waded through the parking lot to my car because I could see most of the lot was still drained. I turned my normal way, went a block, and saw the car in the middle of a pond with its flashers going. Turned around for alternate one, got a couple of blocks, different car same issue. Alternate 2 (and last possible route) the difference was that the water had risen high enough to hide the flashers so I don’t know if they were going or not.

My concern - for myself and everyone else on hourly - is what happens to paychecks and ‘not-at-work’ decisions if we get multiple days of this as is looking to happen.

Sanders’ relationship with the Democratic Party has become an issue in the race. At the Democratic debate Thursday night in Brooklyn, the moderators noted that Sanders has not raised any money for the Democratic Party this year, while Clinton has. Sanders responded that in the past he has raised millions of dollars for his colleagues in the Senate.

But in his campaign for the presidency, he’s actively fundraising for the WFP. Sanders supporters received an email on Thursday asking them to donate $3, to be split between Sanders, Zephyr Teachout, a progressive Democratic congressional candidate in upstate New York whom Sanders has endorsed, and the WFP. The email came from “Bernie Sanders for Working Families Party.”

It is indeed complicated. In NY, where I am most familiar with the WFP and the political situation, the WFP is often linked with the Democrat party, but there have been crossover candidates from the GOP who have sought and gotten the WFP endorsement. Candidates for statewide positions, and mayor of NYC will often seek (and get) the nomination from minor parties that aren’t running their own candidates, but rather find the major party candidate fitting their goal/objectives.

For instance, Andrew Cuomo ran with WFP support both times, but there was dissatisfaction with how Cuomo moved to the right in his reelection in 2014, so the party may be looking in other directions.

As a state note, back in the mid-1990’s the Working Families Party did have branches in Chicago and Milwaukee but those folded soon after Illinois and Wisconsin barred cross-party ‘fusion’ endorsements following a 1997 Supreme Court decision that ruled the national Constitution was silent on the matter of such endorsements.
