Primary Election Results Starting to Come In

Politics • Views: 43,565

Here’s a thread for our commenting community to keep track of the incoming election results from the primaries in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.

We know already that Hillary Clinton has won the Maryland primary, awarding her 38 more delegates and bringing her closer to the goal of 2,383.

Donald Trump has crushed his Republican rivals again, winning Pennsylvania, Maryland and Connecticut.

Bernie may win RI, which will be see as “proof” that he’s still a viable candidate and that the road to the nomination isn’t closed off to him, even though it’s statistically impossible to win by this point.

Going to address the previous topic and then congratulate Hillary for her sweep tonight.

Ok. So what do Facebook groups have to do with any kind of elections? If a Facebook group is somehow shut down, does that somehow keep its members from voting? These people. I’m so done with them. Idiots.

Congrats, Mrs. Clinton.

If they would have counted all of the votes from the voting machines that were never turned on, Bernie would have won in a landslide.

Magic numbers. That’s what this is about.

First to 2,382 for the Democrats. Bernie’s chances are crossing improbable to impossible. Sure, there’s a mathematical chance Bernie could somehow eke out the nomination, but that requires such an improbable/impossible series of events, that it is impossible.

For starters, he needed to win today’s races by 17 points. That didn’t happen. Clearly.

That means the margin of wins in the remaining races goes up to compensate. It’s not going to get any easier.

Of course, you’ve got Bernie bots thinking that Bernie will take CA and everything will be alright.

Okay. How many delegates will he win there? There’s 475 at stake. It’s not a winner take all, so Hillary picks up delegates too. Right now polling suggests she’s going to win about 54% (8 point spread). Bernie needs a 25 point swing, just to hit the mark needed before today’s losses.

The math isn’t getting easier for him. Actually, I take it back. His math is easy.

Zero. That’s the chance he wins the nomination on delegates. Or at the Convention.

Voter machine rejecting Bernie was actually just not turned on

A Philadelphia artist posted video of a voting machine seemingly rejecting his vote for Bernie Sanders that went viral.

“Here it is folks. Voter supression in my own f——— neighborhood,” Brooks Bell wrote when he posted the video on Instagram. “Hundreds of people at my location today were told that they couldn’t vote for Bernie.”

The video was retweeted more than 2,500 times after New York journalist Shaun King shared it on Twitter.

However, the machine in the video was not turned on, said City Commissioner Al Schmidt.

“It is a video of someone trying to vote on a machine that isn’t on,” Schmidt said. “If you look at the video, to the left of where the candidates names are, there should be a red light on, indicating that the voter can select one of those candidates. … We looked at it. It’s immediately apparent that the voting machine was off.”

Bell confirmed that, in fact, the voting machine just needed to be reset, and he was able to vote for Sanders later on. But he said problems like this may have obstructed other voters.

The asshole went ahead and posted the video anyway AFTER HE VOTED.

You know that pivot will happen because the GOPers, including those #NeverTrump idiots at NRO, hate Hillary more than they can’t stand Trump.

So for all their yammering about they wont go for Trump; they’ll go for Trump if only to attempt to deny Hillary.

And when it’s over, they’ll claim they lost because he wasn’t a true conservative, and so look around for someone even more extreme (even though Cruz, Kasich, and the rest of the clown train were the most extreme bunch of right wing nutters that the GOP has ever assembled for a presidential race).

An open primary here in GA didn’t help him. I voted for HRC because I think she has way more experience on a whole host of issues than he does. Plus, he didn’t help himself here with POC after questioning the president’s leadership. Hell, he acts like an American president is a dictator and that Congress has no role to play in governing the nation. Where was he and other democrats when the GOP/TPers started all of the *hit they started? The SCOTUS handed down an interesting free speech decision today.

The justices, in a 6-to-2 decision, said it was unconstitutional to demote a police officer based on the mistaken assumption that he had engaged in political activity. (NY Times)

Not surprisingly, the point went high over the heads of the two dissenters. Thomas and Alito, before vanishing into the far horizon.

I think he’s so bought into the myth that he’s the Progressive Savior for/of the People and leader of a revolution that he’s going to take the campaign and run it all the way as a third party candidate.

I think he’s been so blinded by the attention and adoration that he’s completely lost sight of the immediate, severe, and horribly painful consequences a GOP win would have on millions of these people he’s supposedly fighting for.

Then again, at this point, his thinking might just be: If the don’t vote for me, then fuck ‘em, they get what they deserve.

From ABC’s coverage of the 1976 Presidential election, where McCarthy did his best to win it for Jerry Ford:

“Eugene McCarthy, the independent candidate, the hero of 1968, who may have been decisive in a couple of states that went to Gerald Ford by drawing votes away from Jimmy Carter- he spent the night on a commercial flight from California to Washington. There were only a few reporters and no election backers on hand to greet him at the airport when he hit Washington. They asked Eugene McCarthy for a comment, and he said he had nothing to say.”

While they were out screaming, “GO! Bernie! GO!” maybe they should have been researching how the voting process for presidential candidates is set up in their states. They’ve had more than enough time to do this since Sanders announced he was running, and by now, they could have been qualified and could have voted for him in their states’ primaries/caucuses. It’s their fault that they failed to do what needed to be done. There’s more to supporting a political candidate than running to rallies and protesting at that candidate’s opponents’ rallies.

Can you imagine the outrage if Senator Sanders wasn’t allowed to run though? I think allowing him to run and compete fairly was the right move.

I personally think it was a good thing that he was allowed to run (sometimes you have to find out what people are like) but Clinton was blowing everyone out of the water in the polls at the beginning. Had the Democratic party said no, Sanders would never have gotten any traction and no on would have known to throw a fit about his chances.

Yeah, even though it never did what I assume was the major aim of letting him run, which was to silence the talk that the primaries were a formality before her “coronation.”

Wouldn’t surprise me and honestly I am glad that he ran since he has brought up some issues but I’ve lost a lot of respect for Bernie the man in that time too because he’s shown himself to be politically illiterate.

According to the 2010 Census, 81.4% of the population was White (76.4% non-Hispanic white), 5.7% was Black or African American, 0.6% American Indian and Alaska Native, 2.9% Asian, 0.1% Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander, 3.3% from two or more races. 12.4% of the total population was of Hispanic or Latino origin (they may be of any race).

Maryland hasn’t been a Southern state politically for a long time now. Certainly since 1980, when it was one of the six states that Carter carried. (Indeed, contra Sanders, the noticeable thing about national politics is that the line between the blue and the grey is moving south. Virginia’s consistently Democratic, North Carolina’s purple, and with Florida now having gone cleanly Republican only once in the last five elections, there’s a pincer movement against my old home state of Georgia.)

I hate to say it, but I spent a full minute trying to make a logical connection, thinking “What am I missing here?”. Damn you.

After facing mounting pressure since Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014, the Supreme Court of Crimea officially brands the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People an extremist organization and bans it.

Because people trying to go back to the homes they were purged from is a bad thing, apparently.

It’s disappointing how RFK Jr has turned out to be a nut. His Dad is actually one of my biggest political heroes.

Kennedy’s always been a nutter. I have friends upstate, all romantics at heart (goddess bless ‘em), who think he’s the bee’s knees. I love them all, but paying attention to politics and basic research are obviously not among their strong points.

Like he’s done his entire career until he saw the Democratic Party as his tast ticket to the WH? Pardon me but fuck Bernie Sanders for having done shit little for Democrats over the years and then thinking he’s entitled to that party’s nomination and then having the nerve to bitch about closed primaries when he himself has benefited from caucuses which are a hell of a lot more undemocratic than closed primaries are. All Bernie had to fucking do was tell his supporters “Hey if you want to vote for me and you live in a closed primary state, please register as a Democrat.” But no Bernie couldn’t do that. And you’re going to tell me that this guy should be President? Riiiiiiight.

I remember when the moonbat types I knew always floated him as a possible EPA Administrator in their dream cabinets. Always thought that seemed silly since he’s an activist. My Dad actually partied a little with him and his late brother David back in the day.

If she can get 57% of the remaining delegates, she won’t need the superdelegates even if they are counted in the denominator.

HappyWarrior  Apr 26, 2016 • 7:08:01pm

You don’t like closed primaries but you’re thinking about voting for president then you register with a party who you think is going to nominate the candidate closest to your values. Being a registered Democrat doesn’t mean you have to get Bill Clinton’s image tattooed on your ass. All it does is allows you to vote in a Democratic primary and if you’re trying to change that party from within, that should be the first thing you do but nah easier just to bitch and claim it’s not fair that independent voters who aren’t affiliated with a party can’t take part in that party’s nomination process for president but then act like superdelegates are the worst thing ever. I’m sorry but I’ve given out myself out of fucks to care for when the Sanders diehards. You guys had your chance. You lost. Your candidate was flawed to shit.

The people that were never Democrats and leaned conservative or libertarian but wanted Bernie were not going to support the candidate unless it was Sanders anyway. The party does not want them since they are so toxic and authoritarian (MY way or the highway!)

The current delegate count. Bernie’s not going to win this one, folks. Time to face the facts.

True, but the convention oughta be fun. Not batshitcrazy fun like the GOP convention will be, but good times. Two of my oldest pals will be delegates — one for Bernie, the other for Hill — at the Democratic convention, and I look forward to spilling insider beans to my fellow lizards.

All I can think of now is an old TV show when I was very young.

Donald Trump…This is your life!

And I am now prepared to watch his whole life of being an asshole brought up before America’s eyes and ears.

The Republicans laid off him because they never thought it would come to this and when they did try, they were really scared to attack him, his past and his character because he was good at turning his supporters into attack dogs and the rest of the GOP candidates cowered. And Rinsed Pubes was scared to chase any GOP voters for Trump because he knew he needed them.

I do not think the Democrats and the Clinton Machine will be fearful of just flat out using the truth against him. And they know the Trump backers will be Trump backers. They now need to see how many Independents and Republicans they can sway with the ugly truth of the Big Orange Dump Trump.

One thing that will be interesting to watch is how hard he will try to go after a woman with his prickly shtick. He needs to watch that as a lot of women will not take kindly to his straight out usual big mouth big bully attack methods.

And with that …good evening LGFers!
