Thanks, Josh:

The hidden genius of the Cruz outta-the-box Carly as VP pick is that Fiorina is almost as widely reviled as Cruz himself and election and polling measures has very little political appeal to speak of at all.

Only thing Fiorina and Cruz have in common is that they both lie about Planned Parenthood early and often. For Fiorina, it’s the only thing she speaks about with any regularity. Cruz went to it as a last gasp as his campaign chances sink.

My guess: Frank’s thinking is that Carly has a campaign infrastructure on the ground here in CA that will help Ted Cruz overcome the fact that he’s a loathesome Texas shitsmear. That the people who backed her for her dingbatty Senate run will line up to hold their noses and back him in a state where his Talibangelical social positions will appeal only to the shitkickers and not the donor class, or educated urban professionals.

Or he’s just in the nervous breakdown stage as #NeverTrump implodes, the GOP fractures, and he sees that sweet, sweet gravy train going away.

I have one thing to say about this Fiorina news… HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

She’s more evil than Sarah Palin without all the folksy pandering. But now they can blame her like they did Palin for losing to the Democrats again.

My theory has always been the GOP has wanted to lose the Presidency since 2008, because it can accomplish more by obstructing everything, blaming Democrats, and taking more local and state races. Otherwise the GOP would show the country what they will accomplish like in 2001-2007 and the people will vote back Democrats.

Musk has a long and sordid history of extraordinary claims without extraordinary evidence to back them up. I’ll never understand the internet’s glowing adulation of him.

I’m a little too steeped in the aerospace field to go all that far into details, but the math doesn’t work for large Mars re-entry vehicles. Unless society stops (rightly?) fearing putting a bunch of reactors in space, people will not be landing there in your lifetime or mine.

From my knowledge, humans going there in 2 years is awfully risky in regards to current technology.

Not to mention, the extended stay there. I think the minimum of at least 245 days. More likely 1-2 years. Is the technology there and mature enough to do that? I don’t think so.

Mostly because we tend to admire people who try to do things like land a rocket on a floating platform.

From my knowledge, humans going there in 2 years is awfully risky in regards to current technology.

Not to mention, the extended stay there. I think the minimum of at least 245 days. More likely 1-2 years. Is the technology there and mature enough to do that? I don’t think so.

I’m thinking 2030s to 2040s.

I’m almost certain they DON’T mean a manned mission.

Didn’t the Reagan State Department mix up Mauritius and Mauretania once? Can’t remember the details, but I’m sure hilarity ensued.

The Congressional Record managed to mix up the code-named Sedan nuclear test and the country of Sudan in 2005, and much hilarity indeed ensued.

Well, um, since SpaceX’s finances are still closed and we have no idea if it actually makes sense to do this, versus merely demonstrating that you can do that…

Let’s say the more closely somebody works with that industry, the more Musk’s contributions look to be to the field of PR. I’m going to go chat somewhere else for a while.

Chances are the first few flights, like the attempts to land the 1st stage on a floating platform will most likely fail. But if you don’t attempt it, you will never learn how to do it.

Weird. He’s turned a rocket and electric car company from scratch into industry leaders and changes people’s opinions about electric cars and brought funding of space adventures back into the public eye. Hyperloop sounds like some fantasy but I don’t see where you get the opinion of trying to knock him down as if everything he does is a failure or a dream. It’s not like he takes the helm of HP, fires 30,000 workers, outsources to China, skirts Iranian sanctions to do business there, and gets fired after the stock prices plummeted.

Let us take a moment to consider the enormity of the fact that the Republican Party, the Party of men like Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and Dwight D. Eisenhower, has degenerated to the point that it is on the verge of nominating a tv reality show clown for President of the United States. The GOP started down a dark path when it adopted the Southern Strategy, and that path has brought it to this depth of depravity. Its like watching your grandmother put on high heels, a miniskirt and too much makeup and becoming a streetwalker. Let us hope that the GOP has reached bottom, and that after the travesty of the upcoming November election it will finally stop digging and look for a way out of the pit its descended.

Well, right now, Musk’s SpaceX is the only American commercial launcher outside of ULA/Big Aerospace that has gotten vehicles to orbit and to the ISS and is working on a man-rated orbital launch system, so I’d say that counts for a lot.

I had a very similar comment this morning in another thread.

Musk is, to me, like Bill Gates. Has done some very intelligent things, created some great companies, and is trying to do good for humans with his success instead of just being an ass and running for President. Great things to support!

And like Bill Gates, he isn’t directly responsible for most of what’s been done (that’s other people’s work) and some of his business decisions are probably questionable in ways that may or may not have been examined, and he’s a human being, and therefore flawed, like we all are.

I think SpaceX has done some great things and I’m pleased to see their progress. I think there are probably challenges (engineering and scientific) that probably get played down in the PR stuff, which is a lot of what Musk is doing. I think the way he’s doing it isn’t bad and I’m happy to see it continue, but more evidence to support claims isn’t a horrible request either.
