In Which Donald Trump Says Ted Cruz’s Father Helped JFK’s Assassin

The latest craziness
Politics • Views: 49,313

Is it just theater or is Donald Trump really this deranged? It’s at the point now where it’s impossible to tell any more: Trump accuses Cruz’s father of helping JFK’s assassin.

“His father was with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald’s being — you know, shot. I mean, the whole thing is ridiculous,” Trump said Tuesday during a phone interview with Fox News. “What is this, right prior to his being shot, and nobody even brings it up. They don’t even talk about that. That was reported, and nobody talks about it.”

“I mean, what was he doing — what was he doing with Lee Harvey Oswald shortly before the death? Before the shooting?” Trump continued. “It’s horrible.”

Reminder: grumbling about Trump is not even close to enough. If you don’t show up on election day and vote for Hillary Clinton you are basically as bad as a Trump voter.

Sounds more like he’s accusing Rafe of shooting Oswald—never mind we all saw Jack Ruby do it on live TV….

Where was Trump on November 22, 1963? To the best of my knowledge he hasn’t released any definite information on his whereabouts. Why not? We do know that he was affiliated with a paramilitary organization that has certain connections to the Pentagon.

The Enquirer story he got this crap from makes it clear they’re saying Cruz’s father helped Oswald shoot Kennedy. Trump was just blathering like an idiot and misstated the conspiracy theory.

Not to be overly snarky, Charles….but we’re talking about the guy who led the birther movement. Who has appeared numerous times with Alex Jones

There’s no doubt in my mind that he’s absolutely deranged.

I got words to describe Jane Sanders. I like virago the best though. Such an antiquated word.

I swear though, Jane Sanders is worse than Trump.

A few days ago, I was able to turn 2 undecided co-workers against Sanders in 5 minutes.

Funny this whole JFK assassination thing is being hauled around by The Donald™. I was just in Dallas, toured the whole site, went to The Sixth Floor Museum, saw that creepy-ass X in the middle of the road from the same spot Abraham Zapruder filmed the murder.

I believe the Warren Commission. Oswald acted alone. I’m not a marksman by any means but I have hit moving targets with a rifle from greater distances than Oswald had to work with.

Just some facts. The Zodiac Killer committed his crimes in NorCal in the late 60s and early 70s. Havana Ted was born in December 1970 in Canada.

Still though, gotta love the internet for spreading such an awesome rumor.

Nope, it’s not bad at all. If you glance to your left, imagine that I’m sitting right next to you, and that I’m also enjoying seeing Cruz being on the receiving end of Trump’s craziness. He’s accustomed to dishing the crazy, not taking it. If this were a 1st Round Pay-per-view fight between Trump and Cruz, the knock-out count would be at nine seconds in the 10 second knock-out count. It also hasn’t helped Cruz that his wife said on national TV today that “Cruz is an immigrant,” a comment/claim the Cruz campaign is now actively engaged in walking back by saying she “misspoke.”

By the by…the lyrics to the new Radiohead song are pretty rad. It’s reported that the lyrics were finished way back in 2005, but they read like they could have been written last week.

Stay in the shadows
Cheer at the gallows
This is a round up

This is a low flying panic attack
Sing a song on the jukebox that goes

Burn the witch, burn the witch
We know where you live

Red crosses on wooden doors
And if you float you burn
Loose talk around tables
Abandon all reason
Avoid all eye contact
Do not react
Shoot the messengers

This is a low flying panic attack
Sing the song of sixpence that goes

Burn the witch, burn the witch
We know where you live

Out of the two, Cruz annoys me more. Not only because his father’s fanaticism and his theocratic tendencies & intolerance, but also because of his freaking self-righteous bullshit. He’s been leading the Tea Party charge demonizing POTUS and the entire federal government since the day he assumed office, and yet here he is asking to be elected to be the leader of the very same evil, corrupt, tyrannical government.

Effing spare me, you sanctimonious prick. You’re exactly like every greedy, self-serving, vainglorious religious huckster I’ve ever encountered. *spit*

Trump is a carnival barker promising people a bunch of crazy crap that he’s utterly incapable of delivering, but people don’t care because they’re enjoying what he says. He’s dangerous, yes, but Cruz is still worse. Much worse, IMO.

Domestic violence is a reason for guns to be very difficult to have at home. As is suicide. We had both a couple of weeks ago. A cop was talked out of one of his guns. He pulled the second one and used it on his partner, then himself.

On a smaller scale, my parents considered several places to retire (ultimately staying where they were.) One of the places they looked were the hills above Santa Barbara-and I remember going one place with her. As we drove up the narrow, curvy road-the only way in or out of the area, she looked around and said “nope.” This was 40 years ago, but she was concerned about fire danger.
One doesn’t think of a whole city having essentially the same problem, but I guess it can.

nothing will ever beat this primary

That’s a rash prediction. If Hillary Clinton wins the presidency, the GOP primary clown show of 2020 seems certain to make the GOP goat rodeo of 2016 look like a primary campaign between serious people.

Such a scenario would undoubtedly feature several different attempts (all offensive beyond belief) to copy Trump’s 2016 ‘campaign’, less competently.

Also, the GOP of 2020 would be even more thoroughly addled than it presently is by mainlining toxic levels of anti-Hillary hate for 4 solid years.

For me, it was seeing the science of the shot itself. That’s what I go on in all cases. Polls I’ve seen show that the #BernieorBust crowd accounts for 1/4 of Bernie’s supporters, if that. Polls as recently as last week showed that 60% or better of his supporters would vote for the party’s nominee. The Republican Party is on the verge of nominating an antivaccine loon named Donald Trump

Still, if Trump were actually to become President, he could do great damage to public health. Sure, school vaccine mandates are a state issue, but the guidelines upon which they are based are developed by the CDC. Over the last couple of decades, there have been various antivaccine legislators who have brought CDC officials before Congressional committees to demand “answers” about the link between vaccines and autism. Just imagine how much trouble a President Trump could cause, with his power to appoint a Secretary of HHS. I was reminded of this again by a video in a story that popped up in my feed yesterday featuring Elizabeth Emken.

I think there will be significantly more defections by GOPers than usual in the general election, if Trump is the nominee. The anti-Trump fervor at places like RedState is much more intense than their discontent with the likes of McCain and Romney was.

Of course this is a pretty safe bet, since 1% defection would be significantly greater than the normal 0.0001% GOP defection rate.

Assuming too that there are still efforts to have crews on the ground for some structure protection in key areas (and I haven’t heard anything to indicate that they’re not doing that yet), there needs to be at least one lane open for emergency traffic in the other direction.

Why conservative men have decided to start invading women’s bathrooms

What’s fascinating is the category error being made, whether cynical or earnest.

Bad behavior—be it filming, peeping, or inappropriate contact—is bad behavior. Whether or not a person claims to be “trans” do not excuse bad behavior in a bathroom. Case in point: filming in a public bathroom is bad behavior. Harassing other people about how they’re using the facilities is bad behavior.

Even the people making the “this is not about trans people, it’s about pervert dudes” argument…well, then why make a law about trans identity and bathrooms? You’ve just ceded that the real problem is men that will do anything for a certain kind of contact with women…why not legislate around that?

But they’re not even trying to hear that, because in their head there’s only The Grand Unified Perversion. All people that don’t fuck and act how they like are the same—gay and trans and kinky and child-molesting and criminally uncaring about consent are all just the same thing. And in turn, straight and pious and wholesome are whole cloth as well. It’s not just that they hate trans people (they do)…it’s that they want to stake out that only not-like-them people ever doing anything wrong.

Which is how you constantly end up with molestation and sexual assault scandals. They build backwards from a presumption: “Dennis Hastert seems like me, has my politics, has my cultural markings, he must be a good man who couldn’t possibly touch up teenage boys.” And when scandals arise, they double down—blame the victim, deny, deny—until they can’t. And eventually they just stuff the transgressor down the forget-hole, or “discover” that he wasn’t Of The Body all along.

It’s been recognized for some time that Trump’s rise has been inseparable from a shortening of the Republican OODA Loop, where Trump’s (uh) from-the-gut instinctive politicking keeps catching his opponents off guard, as he gish gallops from one absurdity to the next before any of them can be properly dealt with. It’s not unreasonable to imagine there’s been bleed-over into the rest of the party, wherein state groups decide they need to find a new cultural battlefront right now without really considering the ramifications.

It’s remarkable because one of the things that really characterized the W Bush era Republican Party for me was an excellent medium-term gameplan, constructing these setpiece battles so as to take advantage of ebbs and flows in the electorate. And yet now we have the NC state house force through crazy nonsense just before a presidential election without any real consideration of what effect that could have in six months, never mind six years.

It’s remarkable because one of the things that really characterized the W Bush era for me was an excellent medium-term gameplan, constructing these setpiece battles so as to take advantage of ebbs and flows in the electorate. And yet now we have the NC state house force through crazy nonsense just before a presidential election without any real consideration of what effect that could have in six months, never mind six years.

One of the signs of recognition of impending doom is an inability to plan for the future.

In keeping with the theme of being the reincarnation of Tailgunner Joe, Cruz will now watch as his hubris and assholishness combine to destroy his career in a fortnight. He may stay in the Senate, but he will not enjoy anywhere near the support he once did.

Is it possible Canadian Ted will now be too toxic even for Texas?

The downside is, being Texas, they’ll replace him with someone even worse.

FoxNews.com Closes Comment Section on Malia Obama Article After Avalanche of Racism

The Fox News page running an AP story on Malia Obama’s recent acceptance into Harvard is missing its comment section after the story was met with an avalanche of vile, racist responses from the site’s readers.

The most anodyne comments simply accused Malia of only getting into Harvard because of Affirmative Action. Other Fox News readers just went right for the jugular — lobbing her with a host of racial and religious (specifically Muslim) epithets, as well as smearing her and her mother’s appearance and wishing openly that the president’s daughter would get afflicted with “cancer/aids or one of those colored diseases.”

I feel like I’m going to be copy-pasting this a lot. Silver, again:

We’re not much for intuition around here, but for what it’s worth: it wouldn’t surprise me if Trump’s general-election deficit with Clinton — currently about 7 percentage points — narrows over the next month or so as there’s a sort of euphoric amazement about Trump winning the nomination, producing very favorable media coverage for Trump.

But we should wait until the general-election campaign begins in earnest before concluding very much about what the equilibrium of the race might be. Some Republicans who were initially reluctant to support Trump will turn around and back him now, but the Democrats will have a lot of money and a big opposition research file, and Clinton will be able to sustain focus on Trump’s negatives in a way that his Republican rivals weren’t able to do.

I could not agree more with any of that. Let’s all keep our heads.

It helps to remember that Havana Ted’s election to the Senate was a fluke, a race that he didn’t expect to win but instead expected to use to burnish his credentials in anticipation of running to replace Gov. Goodhair. And it has seemed ever since that he took it as some sign from a higher power, giving him leave to be as much of a dickhole as possible because said higher power had his back. And now he’s finding out that no, there was nobody at his back, and now the people he pissed off along the way are lining up to piss on his presidential ambition’s grave.

Eric Erickson is very sad tonight.

Indiana Republicans Hand Hillary Clinton the White House

A lot of us said Donald Trump would never get this far. To do so we had to ignore all the polling and data and we did. We could not conceive of a Republican Party committing suicide. But now, Trump’s supporters have to ignore all the polling and data to move further and presume he can win in November. The truth is that Trump cannot win. 42% of Republican voters have an unfavorable view of Trump. 53% of registered voters have an unfavorable view of Trump. 70% of women have an unfavorable view of Trump. 89% of Hispanics have an unfavorable view of Trump.

The Republican Party is on the verge of nominating the least popular politician in American presidential history. Ironically, the party’s voters are doing it to spite its own leaders, but its leaders prefer Trump to the other guy. The result will be Hillary Clinton winning in November. Trump cannot build a meaningful coalition outside of blue collar white voters, white supremacists, and internet conspiracy theorists. The rest of the voting public no more wants Trump than herpes.

Already Trump supporters are setting the stage for Trump’s defeat in November, blaming those of us who have declared ourselves “never Trump” for his loss. But Trump’s loss will be squarely on him and those who chose to support him while ignoring the overwhelming evidence that the American public would reject him.

Republican voters have deluded themselves into thinking 40% of the Republican Party equaled the “will of the people.” The Republican Party is the smaller of the two political parties and a majority of registered voters view Trump unfavorably. With the results of the Indiana GOP tonight, the Republican Party is voting for suicide, handing the White House to Hillary Clinton, and handing the Supreme Court to the left for a generation at least.

I got the same feeling when I was reading about the contributions of each State towards the Union Side of the Civil War.

I also noted how integral each Union State was to the War effort on the Union side.

Indiana was bitterly divided during the Civil War; in fact, I suspect some of my ancestors moved to Indiana because of slaveowning relatives or neighbors, perhaps helping some slaves escape in the process. I also had ancestors fight for the Union in the war. Indiana, as a crossroads state between major travel routes between North and South, was basically caught in the middle.

It’s almost like Hillary knows that Indiana is a backwoods hillbilly state that wouldn’t vote for a woman if she was the last candidate on Earth. No offense to the state wherein the fish family made its ancestral home; however, I often call it “the most northern Southern state in the Union.”

It can’t be a southern state—Hillary wins all of those.

re: #268 Kragar

My Mom is still pulling for Sanders, so “he can get Hillary to make concessions at the convention.”

When I asked “concessions for what? They’re both supporting the same things” she responded with “He’s not saying yet because he’s a gentleman.”

*headdesk*

That’s something I’m hearing more and more from Bernie supporters, this “Well, if he can’t win, he’ll still win!” logic where he has some sort of leverage he can use to get the DNC to sing his tune. But there’s virtually nothing in his campaign platform that he will get her to change, and the longer this farce goes on, the more obvious it becomes he has little to no votes to use as leverage.

If he’d conceded a month ago, he could have gone to the convention claiming to have a huge following that would stay home if he didn’t get something from the party leadership. Now, with polls showing something like 85% of his supporters will vote for Hillary in November? All he’s got are the deadenders, and he’s even admitted he has no way of getting them to support her.

Mainstream US politics is going to have to confront the issue that the globalized economy is seen by many to only be helping the uber-wealthy get richer as the jobs go overseas, while the US labor market is undercut by exploiting workers having legal status issues.

“Trust us” on the latest trade deal isn’t going to get it done.

Absolutely, and they’re not wrong. Our current system has very little ability to prevent a return to an outsourced Gilded Age, except that the owners of the production capital need to keep the rest of us wealthy enough to buy their doohickies.

I think neither Trump or Sanders can present a credible policy to address this fundamental problem in the modern global economy, but that doesn’t mean they’re wrong to identify it as such.

CTV has this (more at the link):

The 26-square kilometre wildfire in Fort McMurray has engulfed homes in multiple areas and mandatory evacuations have been ordered for most of the city.

The areas of Centennial trailer park, Beaconhill and Gregoire have all been confirmed as having structures burned by the fire. However, no injuries or casualties have been reported.

According to Premier Rachel Notley, more than 29,000 people have been affected by the evacuations of most of Fort McMurray, now the largest evacuation due to a fire in the history of the province.

Latest from Emergency Services

Residents are being told to go north after the fire crossed the southern end of Highway 63, forcing its closure.

“Our focus is completely and entirely right now on ensuring the safety of people and getting them out of the city,” said Notley during a press conference.

I mean, hell, in CA last year we had a fire that blew up in a day and took out a town. That was a situation where there were a lot of firefighters in state (albeit mostly working on a separate fire) and there was still nothing that could be done when it blows up like that.

Having crews in the air requires weather conditions cooperate. Having crews on the ground requires that you have the capability to get them out safely if the shit hits the fan. Sometimes the fire doesn’t allow either.

I’m not disagreeing that we should help, although in my book it’s because that’s the right thing to do and not just a quid pro quo. But insisting that we should have water bombers up there RIGHT THIS INSTANT isn’t helpful.

It’s like insisting that the strike team should have been able to get the ambassador out at Benghazi.
