What is with these Seven Mountain Dominionist types? Elbow their own wives, and can’t get hugs from their own daughters-and if they misbehave, they spank them-what what?

It’s that hardcore patriarchy at work. Wives should be subservient, regardless, because they are not their own persons with their own free will.

Would you hug them? I wouldn’t. With Cruz, it appears he’s not trying to hurt Heidi, he just doesn’t see her.

Big man brought low. What has always puzzled me is Cruz’s cluelessness. He went to Congress and instead of trying to govern well, he tried to tear the entire nation down and make us bend to his will. In the process, he burnt the majority of his bridges with members of his own party to a point where it was extremely difficult to get endorsements from them. He obviously thinks he’s one of the smartest people on the planet, but he couldn’t see that alienating a majority of members of both parties in Congress would not provide a path for him to the WH. He’s not as smart as he thinks he is. One of the things that has helped the current president is his likeability. Still a lot of crazy in that statement.

A lot less crazy than anything that Mr. Trump or Senator Cruz has said.

Senator Sasse spoke at the CPAC convention and got booed.

My suspicion is that Ben Sasse (who is quite young compared to many Republican senators) is trying to sew the seeds of a conservative renaissance around him (well, not just him, but other politicians who think like he does). He is not looking at this election, but elections in the future.

An awful lot of so-called independents are temporarily embarrassed Republicans who are fed up with the takeover of their party by Evangelicals and wingnuts. (I am minded of Senator Goldwater’s speech on the Senate floor in 1981, where he said the Evangelicals would be a big problem for the Republican Party.)

While Senator Sasse’s path would be quite narrow, if he played his cards right he could build a new movement Conservative around him or politicians who think like he does. We’ll have to see what develops.

(In the meantime, my wingnut senator, Deb Fischer, recently sent out a push poll asking if Nebraskans are fed up with “Federal overreach” pushing Common Core. I wrote her back noting that she has no clue about Common Core since it is a state initiative not a Federal one. I did point out I am in a position in my town at least to educate my village constituents on what Common Core is and that she is either telling an untruth or does not understand what she is speaking about.)

However, all my representatives in Congress (both Senators and Adrian Smith, NE3) have my mail on “shred before reading” so I never even got a form letter response from Senator Fischer.

I live in a weird place, Colorado. My county will not vote Trump come November (it’ll be close) but there will be a lot of pro-Trump counties in Colorado. Trump will not carry Colorado in November, but he’ll carry a number of counties no problem, especially in rural areas.

Ted Cruz pulls out of race, Chuck C. Johnson out of $5,400 bet

Can do, can do. Chuck says the Cruz can do!

Way back in February, Award Winning JournalistTM Chuck C. Johnson said he was putting his money where his mouth is — no not there — and plunked down $5,400 on a 35-to-1 bet that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Alberta) would win both the Republican nomination and the presidency.

Yesterday, Cruz announced he was suspending his campaign after a poor showing against front-runner Donald Trump (R-Blowhard) in the Indiana primary.

So far, no reaction from Johnson about that ill-advised bet, but he has been gradually becoming a Trump supporter since February.

I find it rather surprising how much more left-leaning your neighbours to the north (the Nebraska Panhandle) are than how we vote around here.

At our village board meeting Monday for example, the board voted unanimously to ditch our commercial liability insurance to enter a collectivised (coop) version amongst Nebraska towns and cities.

I made sure to note in the village board meeting questioning our village attorney and the representative from the collective that this was a socialist model of insurance. (That, and it saves the town $20,000 a year.)

Let me present an alternative view - Cruz’s failings as a candidate are only failings because of the presence of Trump. Cruz’s failure to make friends in the Senate and among the GOP establishment would have paid off handsomely, if he were the anti-establishment candidate, the candidate of fear and hatred. But Trump was always willing to go farther. And Cruz had already chosen his path and burned his bridges to prove his anti-establishment cred, making himself hated among the people he would have needed to truly oppose Trump.

But in a race with no Trump, Cruz’s choices could easily have made him the nominee.

It’s something the GOP consistently failed to see. People disliked Kerry, which meant that the dirt they flung at him tended to stick. It all bounced off Obama but they were too blindered to change the playbook.

People can be assholes online. I’ve had Hillary people telling me Bernie is a racist and a sexist and a con man for months. My response has always been the same, “Okay. Tell me something positive about your candidate then.”

If people think fighting against the assholes is helping their candidate, then they’re not getting it. “Hillary has lower negatives than Donald” is a great Twitter argument, but it won’t reach the 30-40 million voters in this country who get their opinions from TV ads and 20 second nightly news clips.

And I suspect when the general heats up the “attacks” from BS supporters will pale in comparison to those from the bigot brigade.

I don’t know if you all have been watching The Flash series on the CW, but the latest episode has cleverly arranged for there to be at least two more speedsters, Kid Flash and Jesse Quick, to battle Zoom.

As a comic nerd, I approve.

Meanwhile, over at CBS, they left Supergirl with a cliffhanger at season’s end, and I don’t know if the network will renew it for another season. It would be a pity if it were canceled, because the TV Supergirl is the perfect anodyne for the cinematic Superman.

Haha! She clearly enjoys the role, and she was an excellent choice for the part. TBH, I didn’t expect much from the series, but the first three episodes proved me wrong. Working in Martian Manhunter and the cross-over with The Flash (from the CW Earth-2) was also clever. The showrunners know their comics lore, which has made the difference.

The character appeals to young girls. Melissa Benoist is a good role model, as well.

Have you been watching Gotham? Young Bruce Wayne was very thoughtful as he watched a caped villain leap around a building like someone we know well. What I don’t get is how Bruce, who is like 13 or 14 in the show, manages to catch up to the villains, who are adults and already well on the way to being super-villains.

113
darthstar  May 4, 2016 • 5:09:26am

This could be the first year where the role of the VP pick isn’t to be the attack dog in the general, but to be the voice of hope and reason.

Trump is in his own element when he’s talking shit about people. He even threw some final punches in his last few victory speeches. Not to equate the two, but Hillary also loves going negative with her opponents. During the debates she always smiled after a particularly nasty barb found its mark.

It’s going to be an interesting six months, I will say. Invest in popcorn futures.

Opinion piece on how the Republican primary is effectively over.

After Donald Trump’s victory over Ted Cruz Tuesday night, absent a particularly well-timed act of spontaneous human combustion the unthinkable has happened: Trump will be the GOP nominee facing off against Hillary Clinton in November 2016.

But there’s a second, more calculating reason they’d risk their congressional majority with Trump rather than patch things up with Cruz: They’re looking farther down the road than 2016.

These people look at Trump — his cult of personality, his incredible ability to generate free media, his demagogic vulgarity — as an ephemeral once-in-a-generation phenomenon, a “black swan” event. They suspect that, while Trump will lose and it will go hard for the Republican Party in the short run with his downfall, this is as survivable as the losses of 2006 and 2008 were.

The Republican party tried that with Health Care Reform (defeat it in the Supreme Court), didn’t work. You are either in it to win it or not.
Reince Priebus is quaking in his knickers, he will shortly be out of a job.

Australia will use the herpes virus to kill off the invasive carp.

Australia’s new Deputy Prime Minister has launched a large ‘scale’ eradication campaign to wipe out carp — by unleashing the herpes virus on the slippery suckers.

Barnaby Joyce declared “Carpageddon” on the “disgusting” fish, which have pushed other species into extinction, he said in a wild rant announcing the eradication plan Monday.

“We’re gonna get rid of the carp! They’re bottom-dwelling, mud-sucking creatures! Disgusting mud-sucking creatures!” he declared, according to BBC News.

We should release that virus in the current pool of politicians.

I see some of the few Republicans I know weeping for what their party is about to do. I can’t feel bad for them though. The nomination of Trump has been a long time coming. Its genesis frankly is in how in one of his worst moments as President, Eisenhower said little about McCarthy. And how the party despite historically being staunchly pro-civil rights began to move away from that. And frankly the racist dog and pony show Trump has is just a louder version of what Republicans have been doing my entire life. Again Trump is not the Republican party’s sickness, he is merely only a part of the clusterfuck they are. Kasich that so called moderate and voice of reason has told people who were discriminated against to get over it. Cruz in some ways is even more vile than Trump. You know why these people hate Trump? It’s not because he’s a disgusting bigot. It’s because he hurts their name brand. They know that conservatism will be tarnished by Trump and they care more about that than actually finding decent human beings with decent ideas than actually addressing the very real reality that conservatism as they know it is quite frankly in the 21st century is a pretty fucked up and archaic ideology.

In some ways, Bernie is playing the role and capturing the demographic groups that HRC did in 08. It would be interesting to see a comparison of the states HRC won in the 08 primaries compared to now. Bernie is winning a large share of the white vote as HRC did eight years ago. But much like Obama, Bernie is winning the young vote. HRC is winning more of the minority vote now relative to 08. Whereas I believe Obama won most if not all of the southern state primaries in 08, HRC won them this year. And while HRC won in places like WV and Kentucky in 08, Bernie looks poised to win those more blue collar areas this year.

So there’s some overlap between the Bernie and Obama voters, but also some contrasts. Before the campaign I would have expected someone like Martin O’Malley to play the HRC-alternative vote, but he never got traction.

I don’t mind Sanders trying to get superdelegates, but he has to offer them proof that he’s going to be able to win, and I don’t think he has. In 2008, superdelegates did switch to Obama after initially being for Clinton, but that was because Obama showed he could win, and that he was drawing more voters into the race. Sanders, for all of his projected support, isn’t showing an increase in voters. He just doesn’t have much of an argument for getting them to switch. But it’s also very hypocritical to argue that superdelegates didn’t matter at one point in time, but they really do now.

I’m not sure where this is accurate, in fact it’s damn near poppycock and balderdash in one. We (Democrats) haven’t actually forgotten what superdelegates are there for, and acting as a brake is only partially true (it’s also there to provide a mechanism for elected Democrats to have buy-in during the primary process). Democrats haven’t demanded a damn thing from Bernie, and have been very accommodating because HE. IS. NOT. A. DEMOCRAT. The only thing that’s being pointed out in regards to Bernie and SDs is that he’s been whining the entire campaign about how unfair they are (even though he is one and his campaign manager helped create them) and now that he can’t use the ‘will of the people’ narrative, he pivots to badgering them to actually do the one thing they’ve never done. As in, overturn the will of the Democratic electorate.

I also find it extremely grating to complain about closed primaries being undemocratic while at the same time benefiting from caucuses. But you’re right. He’s got to show the SDs he can win. Honestly Bernie ain’t Obama. Obama’s a much more intelligent leader because he accesses the big picture more. Bernie to me seems to be a one track mind. I don’t think he’s stupid but he already has his opinions set in stone and personally I’m more amiable to leaders that consider a wide range of opinions and options.

Being a Democrat is actually not a state of mind. It’s a discrete term that requires an actual act of registration. He’s not a Democrat not because his platform doesn’t resonate well with minorities, he’s not a Democrat because he’s a registered Independent. Allowing him to run for the head of a party he’s not a part of because he votes with them normally is a hell of a concession, and one I’m not sure I’d have made if I was in the position to allow it.

Bottom line, while Bernie is absolutely the second best candidate for president this election season, he could have squashed all that talk about pedigree by simply registering as a Democrat more than 5 minutes before starting his run.

When you hear voices saying that god wants you to be president, maybe it’s time for people to say that you’re the one who needs mental health evaluation. How many of these GOP types have made that very claim in the past two presidential election cycles?

Cruz is just the latest.

Yeah, some might say that’s just pandering to Evangelicals, but these people really believe it - Cruz included.

Besides, what you think is god speaking could very easily be Lucifer. Or Cthulhu.

Then again, it could be G-d. And he likes playing egotistical demagogues and bigots for fools. It’s kind of his thing, you know, dating back to the Bible.

I was mildly wary about Chibnall taking over Doctor Who. Now, I am actively concerned.

Even at its worst, Doctor Who is generally of much better quality than the majority of the stuff on US TV, to the point I can not watch much shows now, as they make me actively cringe.

Writing by committee sounds good on paper, but in reality, it just results in a really queasy mush about 75% of the time. There is no need to Americanize Doctor Who anymore than it has been.

I am confident now that Capaldi will leave with Moffat at the end of next year.

Rockwall tried that a few days ago with an ordinance was submitted by the mayor. Rockwall is very conservative and one of the wealthiest counties in the state of Texas. The council sat through three hours of hearing from residents, and most residents opposed it. There were two things I think that changed the opinions of the city council members that were originally going to support it: that it would be very hard to enforce it, and the owner of the huge Hilton hotel down at the lake said “I pay about $750,000 a year in taxes and my business and all the others would be hurt by this.” Even here in Rockwall, people understand money. In the end, only the mayor supported it.

He also could have actually raised money for other Democrats that share his views too. Bernie in my observations of him would rather present to his supporters an idea of him versus the system when in reality, he should be working on actually building the change he wants through like minded individuals. A reporter called him out on this in Vermont though and he got really angry. The truth hurt I guess and Bernie didn’t like being told he’s not a teamplayer.

I have been living in Europe for over 25 years, and although I do not vote (I am still a US citizen), I follow politics and have never seen anything like an American primary here, open or closed.

Candidates are selected by dues-paying, card-carrying party members at party conventions. Which is why a lot of people do not understand how Donald Trump came to be: they assume that he was selected from above by major players within the GOP, when that is really not the case.

The parties could do that here. They don’t because both major parties (rightly) feel that getting people to choose gets a candidate that will better reflecting the will of the voters and get people more motivated to vote in the fall (if you vote once, you’re likely to vote again because of the investment). Trump just represents the culmination of everything the Republican party has tried for.

Correct. I just disagree that only the party honchos should choose. Best way to solve this would be to have closed primaries and not open primaries or caucuses. I’ve long said that a deal will come when the right people are leading both Israel and/or the PA. I don’t think either Abbas or Bibi are the right people.

It takes someone special like a Sadat or Rabin to push the process (Sadat with the trip to Jerusalem that ultimately led to Camp David, and Rabin whose efforts led to Oslo Accords and peace with Jordan). And it works best when the negotiations take place behind closed doors and work out the deal. I don’t see anything resembling the back channels that led to Oslo, and with no one making a grand gesture in public, we’re going to see nothing but a holding pattern that both the PA and Israeli government will tolerate. They’re both accepting the status quo.

None of it helps the Palestinian people let alone the Israeli people.

177
HappyWarrior  May 4, 2016 • 6:40:50am

In the end, it’s all sort of a mess since we’ve created a two party system. Thus you have someone like Bernie who in Europe would never latch on to the Democratic party because he’d have a party that more represented his views. The GOP sort of has this too though I’d argue that a lot of the GOP’s differences within their caucus are more style versus substance than actual ideology.

All of the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The Palestinian state should not be in any way fragmented. In addition, the Palestinian State should have full water rights in its territory.

Alternatively, Palestine and Israel can both give up Jerusalem, and have it become a City-State like Singapore, with an Andorra-esque arrangement for the Religious sites in the city, with The President of Israel, the King of Jordan, and the Roman Catholic Pope serving as the mediators on the issue of religious sites.

In exchange, Palestine will be full demilitarized, with its defense taken care of by Jordan, Supplemented with a force from the UN similar to the one currently in the Sinai. Palestine will also accept any settlers who wish to remain in the area, as long as they recognize that the land is not going to go to Israel. That will likely be a deal-breaker to most settlers, I would imagine.

“Not in any way fragmented” — so you’re proposing a 3-state solution? Because Gaza and the West Bank are not contiguous.

Jordan taking care of Palestine’s defense? Jordan has zero interest. Jordan has waived all interest in the territory. Totally. Wants nothing to do with it.

Putting Jerusalem into the hands of people who’ve historically, repeatedly, for centuries on end, prevented Jews from visiting the most important Jewish holy sites? Gaza Strip should be dealt with later, unless Hamas is willing to give up the ghost. I was speaking only on the West Bank.

Personally, the fact that polls from Channel 99 showing 49% of Israelis, along with recent polls showing increasingly nasty attitudes towards Arabs, means that I think it is legitmate to be concerned that both Al-Aqsa and Dome of the Rock could have the fate of the Babri Masjid in India.

In regards to recent polling, I have this.

A Pew Research poll released in March 2016 showed that close to half of all Israeli Jews are in favor of “transferring or expelling” Israel’s Arab population. 48% of Israeli Jews strongly agree or agree with the idea, and 46% strongly disagree or disagree. The in-person polling was conducted in a relatively “calm” from late 2014 through early 2015.

You’re wrong. Israelis don’t want the PR disaster that harming any holy sites would provoke. And regardless of which party in charge, the Israeli government has not taken any steps that could even lead in that direction.

The main danger relating to the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock is Palestinian incitement spread by social media accusing Israel of trying to harm those sites. That sort of dishonest web-circulated propaganda leads to terrorism, even after Netanyahu made very clear that Israel would take no action that might harm either site, nor would it permit Jews to pray on the Temple Mount.

When the pledged-delegate race was closer: “Superdelegates are undemocratic! We don’t need those establishment cronies to win! They shouldn’t count!”

Now that the pledged-delegate race is out of reach: “Superdelegates are the only thing that matter now! We’ll change their minds at the convention!”

Yeah, the turn-around on super-delegates is a bit of a surprise.

Yeah, he was all in for Ted until February or so, then slowly became a Trumpist as it became amply clear Cruz has a snowball’s chance in hell of being president. He’s trying to grab onto Trump’s coattails, or he’s grasping at some position with Trump’s administration by being suck-up.

He’s right about Trump running a CCJ campaign, though. Birds of a feather, those two, except one has money and the other not.

This is why you can’t take Democrats winning in November for granted.

I could make up states that fit whatever path I want as well. Just saying “They’re going to vote for Trump” doesn’t mean they will.

ABC had a map showing Clinton winning the states that Democrats have reliably won the past 30 years. This did not include VA or NC, basically the North East, the pacific states, and the Great Lakes states. All she needed was Florida to win.

No, we can’t take any election for granted. But imagining losing scenarios that have no real chance of happening isn’t going to help.

Yes, Trump could win. I’m not buying into the Democratic landslide Trump’s nomination is supposed to automatically create. HRC may win and Dems may make gains in Congress, but it’s far from inevitable.

Unless something extremely wacky happens between now and November (which wouldn’t surprise me at all, given this election so far) I will be extremely confident that HRC will win handily.

However, Trump is too much of a wild card — and there is too much at stake — for anyone to get complacent.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - Emergency crews have been called to a building in the 20400 block of Franz Road in west Harris County near Katy for reports of an active shooter.

A man with a shotgun entered the building and fired multiple shots, officials said.

The building is located across the street from Franz Elementary and Morton Ranch High School, which are on lockdown.

They usually show up for presidential elections, and Trump will galvanize them to do so. Butthurt Clinton supporters ended up voting for Obama in ‘08, and the vast majority of Bernie supporters will do so as well when faced with the prospect of Trump. There isn’t a charismatic third party figure to draw away liberal votes like Nader in 2000. He made great commercials; I still remember them. No, I think he’s more likely to be butthurt about losing and I think his supporters are going to be less connected with reality. I also think Donald Trump will continue to show up in places where Berniacs will likely rage against him. He will do this if possible to solidify law-and-order folks behind him and also to render Sen. Sanders and his supporters toxic in the eyes of other parts of the public.

So if Bernie doesn’t get out, Trump will troll him in California again.

That enormous black star on David Bowie’s last album looks so sombre in light of his death, but it isn’t as bleak as it first appears.

As an Imgur user discovered this week, if the vinyl gatefold is left out in the sun (N.B - not the record itself, you’ll ruin it), its star becomes a galaxy.

It’s quite a touching little secret, and a nice nod to Bowie’s immortality as a musical and cultural icon.

A Republican nominee for president has not won Pennsylvania, Michigan, or Wisconsin since 1988. They’ve only once won Iowa since 1984. Ohio is the closest thing to a swing state in that bunch. Add in the recent polls that show places like Arizona, Utah, and Georgia in play for Clinton and the idea of a President Trump becomes even more far fetched. I’m not saying it’s an impossibility, but it still remains highly improbable.

However, we still have to give this everything we got, to make sure Trump loses, and to pick up as many House and Senate seats as possible. And State seats too, so we can un-gerrymander as many states as possible. Looking at Pennsylvania and Virginia on that.

If Sanders wants to use his delegates for something, use them to get rid of Debbie Wassermann Schultz as DNC head. She is hurting the party.

We just had our state elections here in Va. The unGerrymandering will have to wait alas but it is absolutely crap that a state with a Dem gov, two Dem senators, and has gone for Obama twice had it set up where Dems only have 3 districts out of 11.

I was reading, yesterday, about the blow out presidential elections - ‘64, ‘72, ‘84 - and it seems that only in ‘64 did the winner of the presidential election do particularly well down ticket. But that was also an era of ticket splitting that we don’t see as much of now. Still, I think Trump will be bad for Republicans down ticket - if they try to distance themselves from him, I think he’ll lash out at them; and if they hug him, then they’ll feel a blow back from the other side. My guess is that the Senate is definitely in play and that the House may be. As for State legislatures, I said a while ago that if the Democrats were smart, they would use this election cycle to build a foothold for the next couple of cycles - 2020 will be incredibly important at the state level because that’s the next census and 2021 will be the year seats are reapportioned - that’s three cycles including this one.

You say you want a revolution, well, you know, we all want to change the world…

I see this as the other side of the coin of my personal favorite - the wingnuts who call for a constitutional convention. Neither suppose that the other side wouldn’t be involved and that it might turn out badly for their side. This is especially so with the convention folks - it’s like they don’t think things like the right to privacy (and abortion) wouldn’t end up in a newly drafted constitution bill of rights.

Y’all seem to have forgotten that that’s what the superdelegates are THERE FOR: as a brake on the “will of the voters” if they nominate someone the party sachems deem unelectable. The Democratic Party put an undemocratic tool in place, now they’re pissed when Bernie uses it. They’ve always demanded that Bernie fight with one hand tied behind his back.

If Bernie had won the popular vote and pledged delegates the Supers would have switched, instead he lost. As he started losing his campaign’s rhetoric switched from claiming the Supers were undemocratic to demanding that the Supers overthrow the democratic outcome. So the only one who’s forgotten anything was Bernie, who hypocritically forgot how to behave like a man with an ounce of integrity.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Angry Kylo Ren Scene

They’re the storm troopers this morning, confronting the fact that Trump is Kylo Ren. Someone born into privilege, who has decided to trash the entire system for his own personal gain. I actually think a Doctor Who clip will work for the Berners. Just the 1st part though. I will quote the relevant part.

Doctor Who Season 9 - The Doctor’s War (Ep 8 Spoilers)

DOCTOR: What is it that you actually want?

(After a long pause.)

CLARA-Z: War.

DOCTOR: Ah. Ah, right. And when this war is over, when you have a homeland free from humans, what do you think it’s going to be like? Do you know? Have you thought about it? Have you given it any consideration? Because you’re very close to getting what you want. What’s it going to be like? Paint me a picture. Are you going to live in houses? Do you want people to go to work? Will there be holidays? Oh! Will there be music? Do you think people will be allowed to play violins? Who’s going to make the violins? Well? Oh, you don’t actually know, do you? Because, like every other tantrumming child in history, Bonnie, you don’t actually know what you want. So, let me ask you a question about this brave new world of yours. When you’ve killed all the bad guys, and when it’s all perfect and just and fair, when you have finally got it exactly the way you want it, what are you going to do with the people like you? The troublemakers. How are you going to protect your glorious revolution from the next one?

CLARA-Z: We’ll win.

DOCTOR: Oh, will you? Well, maybe, maybe you will win! But nobody wins for long. The wheel just keeps turning. So, come on. Break the cycle.

CLARA-Z: Why are you still talking?

DOCTOR: Because I want to get you to see, and I’m almost there!

CLARA-Z: Do you know what I see, Doctor? A box. A box with everything I need. A fifty percent chance.

Well this news sucks:

Prince was found dead one day before he was scheduled to meet with a California doctor in an attempt to kick an addiction to painkillers, an attorney with knowledge of the death investigation said Tuesday.

Dr. Howard Kornfeld, a national authority on opioid addiction treatment, was called by Prince representatives the night of April 20 because Prince “was dealing with a grave medical emergency,” said William Mauzy, a prominent Minneapolis attorney working with the Kornfeld family.

Kornfeld, who runs Recovery Without Walls in Mill Valley, Calif., could not clear his schedule to meet with Prince the next day, April 21, but he planned to fly out the following day.

So he sent his son, Andrew Kornfeld, who works with him, to Minnesota, with plans for him to go to Paisley Park to explain how the confidential treatment would work, Mauzy said.

Why did he have to bring in a guy from CA when MN has been a groundbreaker in addicton treatment?

Time to resurrect Reagan, he’s their only hope.

Trump=Reagan - that’s why he’s dangerous. Sure he’s a bigoted, blowhard, sexist narcissist…who isn’t these days? He knows how to work a room, and that’s how he defeated 16 opponents when he wasn’t even considered a serious candidate.

On some of the issues - he’s not too far off from Hillary - though he can’t articulate them to save his life - but he’s for investing in infrastructure (actually a Bernie position, but we’ll call it even), he’s against defunding Planned Parenthood because it makes economic sense to prevent unwanted pregnancies (though he is against “the abortion”), and he’s said we need to be a fair broker with Israel and Palestine rather than taking sides…that actually puts him to the left of Clinton.

If the GOP manages to get him decent handlers and image consultants who know what they’re doing, they could reinvent him so fast for the general that Hillary’s 12 point lead would look less than bullet-proof. I’m not saying I want him to win - I sure as fuck don’t…as I’ve been saying for weeks, #ImWithWhatever…but I’m not going to kid myself and assume she’ll walk to the White House as she is to the nomination. The general election is an entirely different beast…and a 60 point lead in September evaporated by January, so 12 points (or whatever it is…15? 16?) isn’t easy to hold onto for six months.

As a matter of fact, she could use an image consultant as well…her response to the people of West Virginia when they called her on promising to kill the coal industry “My words were out of context with what I meant.” (I wrote that shit down as she said it because I was so baffled) isn’t exactly something that says ‘trust me’…

That’s very true too. Another point the Sanders folks want to ignore. Clinton actually held a lead longer into the race than Sanders ever did.

At this point in the 2008 campaign, Hillary was down to Obama by all of 1,493 to 1,336 excluding supers (2,118 to win). Hillary was ahead as of Feb 10, 2008 when Obama began to take lead, which he gradually extended.

Yeah, we have to stop Trump. Let’s just not assume it’ll be easy.

Trump is not Reagan FFS. Reagan had been 2 time gov of CA. He had also run for POTUS twice before he won the nomination. He did have actual knowledge about policy, even if it was disagreeable.

Yes, we have to take Trump seriously, but lets stop the ridiculous comparisons to Reagan.

The GOP should just go El Cid. I say dig up The Cowboy, put him in a limo, drive him all over the nation with recorded soundbites that made him the Cowboy. Who will notice? They bought a reality show born on third base thinks he invented the game adultering con man who has ruined more people than some towns have people and is a lock to be the closest thing to an openly Fascist candidate in American history. What could go wrong?

From Wiki;

After his demise, but still during the siege of Valencia, legend holds that Jimena ordered that the corpse of El Cid be fitted with his armor and set atop his horse Babieca, to bolster the morale of his troops. In several variations of the story, the dead Rodrigo and his knights win a thundering charge against Valencia’s besiegers, resulting in a war-is-lost-but-battle-is-won catharsis for generations of Christian Spaniards to follow. It is believed that the legend originated shortly after Jimena entered Burgos, and that it is derived from the manner in which Jimena’s procession rode into Burgos, i.e., alongside her deceased husband

I agree with that as well. Bernie may not be an insider in the way Clinton is but he’s definitely not an outsider. If anything, he’s someone who has had ample time to become an insider and failed to do so. And I’ll add another thing, some of our most successful presidents when it came to legislation like FDR and LBJ were very much insiders.

Bobby Knight (R-Chair Thrower) is another Benghazi cultist: Bobby Knight’s Life Was Never the Same After Benghazi

Knight, who endorsed Donald Trump last week leading into the Indiana primary, indicated on April 27 that his support was tied, at least in part, to a conclusion that “Benghazi” would never occur under a Donald Trump administration.

A bold statement, and one CNN thoughtfully provided airtime for him to discuss today.

“You know, I’ll tell you one thing about Donald Trump. There will never be a Benghazi in a Donald Trump administration. I‘m not sure in my lifetime I’ve seen anything where our government failed to do something for people overseas that were in trouble. That won’t happen with Donald Trump,” Knight said this morning on CNN. “Those are the things I’m concerned with.”

He’s correct in that “there will never be a Benghazi in a Donald Trump administration” because there will never be a Donald Trump administration.

Good grief. Another from Snopes—really awful fake news site. Emphasis mine:

FALSE: Newark Mom Arrested for Son’s Gruesome Death
A fake news site fabricated a horrifying and humorless claim about a Newark mother assaulting and killing her toddler with a sex toy.

The claim is typical of the outlandish, fabricated articles routinely published by Empire Herald (which features no disclaimer warning readers that its articles are exclusively in the realm of fake news), but the content of this particular article is far darker than many of the site’s other efforts. It also contains no satirical elements or humor, serving solely to distress readers. Why the claim suddenly gained traction is unclear.

Previous Empire Herald hoaxes included claims about a dog meat restaurant, a serial killer who purportedly carved “Black Lives Matter” into his victims’ skin, a falsehood about a man committing suicide over the Harriet Tubman $20 bill, and a yarn about a mother caught masturbating with a Happy Meal toy in a McDonald’s Playplace. […]

As for why the claim suddenly gained traction, I’m pretty sure I know the answer to that.

If you want to know why Mrs. Sanders is being insanely intransigent about her husband’s chances in the Democratic primary, it’s for the same reason a farm-bred border collie will not be deterred from herding cats, neighborhood children or passing cars when there are no sheep available: Her genetic bias towards muckerdom, nurtured by the demented Celtic romance with martyrdom, compels her to keep resisting long after a “sensible” person would realize it was time to throw down weapons and bargain for terms. And if you think I’m exaggerating, let me remind you — she won’t even be 2016’s most ridiculous standard-bearer for this toxic trope, not while Catherine Grieg is still “protecting” Whitey Bulger’s reputation, out of “loyalty”.

Jane also said that Trump’s foreign policy is better than Hillary’s.

Dafuq? You mean the part where he builds a wall on our border with one of our biggest trading partners? Or the part where he tells all 1.6 Billion Muslims they’re not welcome to even visit? Or the part where he encourages Japan and South Korea to acquire nuclear weapons? Or the part where he won’t rule out using nukes against an insurgent force embedded in a civilian population? Or the part where he tells our long-time allies to fend for themselves if they’re unwilling to accept our terms?

What the actual fuck?

Jane hates the Democrats more than Bernie does. I wonder what happened to her? Was somebody mean?

Mexico is sending up firefighters to Alberta.

One of the biggest adjustments for his crew will be using more water than they traditionally use against the flames, Trejo said.

“Our resources are limited,” he said. “We don’t have as much manpower or equipment. There’s more water in the forest up here than Mexico so that’s a bit of a challenge for us down there and then a challenge up here using water pumps and stuff.”

Maybe she misspoke. In the past she always said Trump’s foreign policy was scary (same thing she has said about Hillary).

Bernie isn’t a Democrat and he hasn’t done shit for the party. It’s not his place to demand/whine/change anything.

Hillary would seem to disagree. She at least realizes that if she dismisses Bernie and her supporters the way you do, it’s likely to bite her, the party, and the country in the ass in the long AND the short runs.

Unelectable? Facing anyone but Trump, probably. And she can still lose to Trump. If you say “no way that’ll ever happen,” you’re part of the reason she could lose. Right now in the national polls she leads Trump. Bernie leads by more.

Bernie hasn’t faced over 20 years of negative attacks on the national scale. You really think his lead will stick around once the Republicans start working on his history of calling himself a socialist? Really?

I don’t think it’s a done deal at all, and I intend to put my money where my mouth is and work to make sure that Trump isn’t elected. But I’m genuinely excited to support HRC in both the primary and the general election.

I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt that you didn’t really want to the superdelegates to ignore the results thus far and instead select your preferred candidate, but that was clearly silly.

You are being obtuse. Don’t know if trolling or serious.

Nobody has touched Bernie with ugly negative ads, gone back in his history and dug up every little thing he ever said or did, put his policy proposals to the test. (Well there was that one disastrous newspaper editorial board interview.)

Get real. He would be crucified.
