Donald Trump Refuses to Stop Using Rolling Stones Songs

“I always buy the rights.”
Politics • Views: 49,543

The Rolling Stones have asked Donald Trump to stop using their music at his campaign events, because like other musicians such as Neil Young, Adele and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, they don’t want to be associated with this raving xenophobic bigot.

But Trump says he’s not going to stop, because he bought the rights to use their songs.

And in this case, he’s right; if he legitimately bought a license to use their songs at his events, there’s no way the Stones can legally force him to desist. But at least now they’re on record protesting it.

Yeah there’s this thing called voting. I don’t give a shit about Bernie’s big crowds. If those people aren’t actually voting, it really doesn’t mean much and Hillary in fact has gotten large crowds. But go ahead BB’s, act like a big crowd somehow mitigates that HRC has gotten more votes than Bernie.

One of the Leftists I follow/list on Twitter was going on and on yesterday about how Democrats should want to have open primaries to draw more people to the party (and have declared Independents influence it because The Left deserves a Voice) and it was essentially corrupt to not have open primaries because the parties are so privileged in our election process, etc.

This would have been a good for The Left to have emphasized last year if they wanted to change it, and for those people who for whatever reason can’t find it in themselves to affiliate with a political party when they register to vote. But their complaining about it now is just very transparently all about a particular candidate at the moment.

The left needs to organize their own party. the Democratic Party does not exist for them to use as a tool to use and disuse at their will. If they wanted to register as Democrats to vote for Bernie in the primaries, they should have done that the second they thought that Bernie was someone they could vote for. I have no sympathy for them.

EmmaAnne  May 5, 2016 • 11:14:55am

I just did a little back of the envelope calculation and realized that Hillary will win a majority of pledged delegates if she takes only 35% of the remaining delegates. I am therefore resolving to ignore all primary spats and put myself on a general election footing. :-)

I also realized something recently. I was discussing the election with a friend who says she is a “social liberal and fiscal conservative.” I said I consider Hilary a moderate, and she agreed. I was glad to hear it but also surprised, because I am way further left than my friend, so my “moderate” should be her “liberal.” After further discussion, I think it was the primary with Bernie. He and his supporters may not have been trying to help Hillary with their attacks on her being like an old-time liberal republican, and making only small incremental changes to social programs, and too cozy with the elite in business and the military. But in the end these attacks reassure people like my friend.

So besides the fact that it is good for my mental health and that it makes logical sense, I am not arguing with Bernie supporters because they are doing my candidate a favor.

Alan Abramowitz ran the numbers a week back on whether or not Bernie would be doing better if all the primaries were open ones. The conclusion? He’d have 41 more delegates than he had at the time, when Hillary’s lead was over 290 pledged delegates. So anybody claiming that open primaries would have Bernie leading right now are full of shit.

Kind of like the Superdelegates. It’s all sour grapes based on the fact that they can’t wrap their heads around the fact that some of us decided that we think Clinton is a better candidate and leader than Bernie.

Not to mention how they’re silent as the grave over how undemocratic caucuses are.

Honestly, I’m tired unto death of people telling The Independents are who we need to suck up to to win, and The Independents love Bernie. Failing to register with either of the major political parties is no more an organizing principle than not believing in any gods. Independents include people on the Left who think the Democrats are too much like Republicans, people in the middle who think both parties are too extreme, people on the right who think that the Republicans are too much like Democrats, and people who just plain don’t want to have to choose. It’s nonsensical to presume that allowing Leftist ‘independents’ to vote in our primaries will net us the votes of Centrist ‘independents’ who are the actual swing votes.

Meanwhile, we have long-time, reliable blocs of voters, like African Americans, whose support has been key to the party’s success. We should devalue THEIR votes, because a bunch of people who don’t want to register as Democrats want to choose our nominee?

Bernie was rarely part of that and though the DSA supported his running and getting his ideas out there they will be more interested in three things:

Sanders had large rallies in Louisville and Lexington KY the past two days. Date for new registrations being able to vote in the primary was April 18th. For those previously registered, but wanting to switch parties must have done so by December 31st. KY has a closed primary election for Presidential candidates(House and Senate as well). Anyone has the ability to vote in the many non-partisan primaries that will occur May 17th. We are not New York, but don’t be surprised to hear at least a little grumbling about open/closed Primaries in a week and a half.

“Donald Trump is going to have to really expand the electorate to overcome how badly he is seen by women,” Schriock said. “If you’re starting your presidential campaign with 70 percent basically women who don’t like you, you’re going to have to find a lot of brand-new voters, a lot. re: #46 Smith25’s Liberal Thighs

This is one of the things that gets me about Bernie’s campaign. How disorganized and tardy the real business of getting votes has been. I remember 2008 and how Obama made sure people would register to vote and the reminders of when and where to vote, to register, to participate. But the real work of campaigns can be pretty dull at times: canvassing to remind people to vote, to make phone calls, filing. Rallies give him a thrill, but anyone can attend a rally. And Bernie followers are also being cheated both electorally and in the skills and knowledge needed to actually be politically effective.

Register as a Democrat, work to get Democrats that you think represent your valeus nominated and elected, etc. You’ll lose some but you’ll win some too.

Leftists unhappy with the Democratic Party should examine the example of the Tea Party, but first they need to understand: The Right always votes, and they always vote for the Republican candidate.

When the Tea Party arose, they didn’t try to start their own party, and they didn’t try to get the GOP to open their primaries to all comers. No, they put up their own candidates for primary races all up and down the ticket, all over the map. They scored some victories, and some losses, but despite the losses, they STILL voted for the Republican candidate, because The Right always votes, and they always vote for the Republican candidate..

Within one election cycle, they pretty much completely made over the Republican Party in their own image, so that even members of the GOP leadership who don’t agree with all the extreme positions have no choice but to fall in line.

The problem with the Left is they’re too lazy and too entitled to follow that example. They want the Democratic Party to GIVE THEM what they want, or they’ll let the GOP win. And they don’t vote reliably anyway. Sure, they helped win the White House for Obama in 2008, but where were they in 2010? Where were they in 2014? Where will they be in 2018.

We don’t need a third party. That never works. If Leftists want the Democratic Party to be more liberal, they have to shed their purity and VOTE, because The Right always votes, and they always vote for the Republican candidate.

re: #53 Belafon

Trump should. He’s made quite a bit of money doing it.

That guy can’t read a teleprompter. You think he has transcripts? And besides, most people who give speeches don’t demand exclusive rights to their words after they’re spoken. What makes this a ‘big deal’ (it’s not, I know…they’re just speeches) is the fact that Hillary had the foresight to ensure that her words never became public. It’s not that there’s anything damning in her words, it just that there’s the impression that their MIGHT be something damning in her words that she feels the need to hide them. Again…it’s just a matter of optics. Trust her. There’s nothing there.

re: #81 Blind Frog Belly White

Leftists unhappy with the Democratic Party should examine the example of the Tea Party, but first they need to understand: The Right always votes, and they always vote for the Republican candidate.

When the Tea Party arose, they didn’t try to start their own party, and they didn’t try to get the GOP to open their primaries to all comers. No, they put up their own candidates for primary races all up and down the ticket, all over the map. They scored some victories, and some losses, but despite the losses, they STILL voted for the Republican candidate, because The Right always votes, and they always vote for the Republican candidate..

Within one election cycle, they pretty much completely made over the Republican Party in their own image, so that even members of the GOP leadership who don’t agree with all the extreme positions have no choice but to fall in line.

re: #16 Fourth Football of the Apocalypse

One of the Leftists I follow/list on Twitter was going on and on yesterday about how Democrats should want to have open primaries to draw more people to the party (and have declared Independents influence it because The Left deserves a Voice) and it was essentially corrupt to not have open primaries because the parties are so privileged in our election process, etc.

This would have been a good for The Left to have emphasized last year if they wanted to change it, and for those people who for whatever reason can’t find it in themselves to affiliate with a political party when they register to vote. But their complaining about it now is just very transparently all about a particular candidate at the moment.

If an Independent is still an Independent after being allowed access to voting in an open primary/caucus, then that person has NOT been “drawn to the party”, no more so than a Republican who votes in an open Democratic primary for the only purpose of ratfucking.

I had a wooden middle-finger gear-shifter when I was young. After I took out 10 fence posts one night driving home (the gear shifter was unharmed in the accident), my mother took her anger out on the knob by breaking the finger off of it.

Exactly.

These days when I hear BernieBros complaining that the Democratic Party is mean to them, and if we don’t let non-Democrats choose our nominee, they’ll take their dolls and dishes and stay home, in my mind I hear Rocket telling Drax The Destroyer, “Aww, boo-hoo. My wife and child are dead.”

I really would have so much respect for them if they were willing to work on building the part up from the local level. I mean say what you will about the TP but they have done just that with the GOP. I had a long time moderate delegate here and the TP decided they didn’t like him and got their own guy in there. As I said, sometimes they’re going to lose but sometimes they’re going to win. If these people truly want to move the Democratic party to the left, the answer is not Bernie Sanders, it’s local candidates. And then once you get those local candidates elected, it’s proving by governing that your policies are efficient and work.

So, what’s the chance that Drumpfskind will be able to get Mick Jagger onboard the Drumpfskind train?

Absolutely none. The Stones hate Trump. Keith once threatened to knife him.

They’ve got history.

Hmmm, I wonder what Republicans will do now in open states like California. Think they might take a Democratic ballot?

It looked gross in the review and it looks gross now.

Between Emily’s List, Iowa Public Radio, and every influential “progressive” blog and newssite…you’d never know that there are excellent women running against professional bigot Steve King (Kim Weaver) and part-time grass cutter Charles Grassley (Patty Judge). IPR is the worst. Every election cycle it ignores the Democratic candidates until close to the election only to advise the listeners that there’s no way the Dems can win. IPR has become nothing but Clear Channel in hushed tones.
