‘Phenomenal Woman’ lyrics
Nobody ever told her she was beauty
One day she realised she was already free
The colour in her eyes was fire risen
She found the light inside a new a horizon

OH MY MY! OH MY SHE FLIES!!!
OH MY MY! OH MY SHE FIGHTS!!

OH MY MY! OH MY SHE FLIES!!!
OH MY MY! OH MY SHE FIGHTS!!

She battled through in every kind of tribulation
She revelled in adventure and imagination
She never listened to no hater, liars!
Breaking’ boundaries and chasin’ fire!

OH MY MY! OH MY SHE FLIES!!!
OH MY MY! OH MY SHE FIGHTS!!

OH MY MY! OH MY SHE FLIES!!!
OH MY MY! OH MY SHE FIGHTS!!

It don’t matter what people say
Cuz they don’t you
Where you come from or where you’re going’

It don’t matter what people say
Cuz they don’t you
Where you come from or where you’re going’

YOU, ARE, PHENOMENAL!!!! WOMAN!!

YOU, ARE, PHENOMENAL!!!!

OH MY MY! OH MY SHE FLIES!!!
OH MY MY! OH MY SHE FIGHTS!!

OH MY MY! OH MY SHE FLIES!!!
OH MY MY! OH MY SHE FIGHTS!!

PHENOMENAL WOMAN!!!

Come July, King Pimp will be foaming at the mouth. But foaming presidentially, I’m sure. I wonder what Native American name his “people” would have given him if he were a Native American? I wonder…..

She’s also proving how easy it is to provoke and distract him. So at a time when he should be focusing on consolidating his support within his own party he’s spewing petty nonsensical bullshit on Twitter. She’s right, he really is a schoolyard bully and the one thing he can’t tolerate is someone standing up to him.

If she’s done one thing tonight it’s prove just how fucked he is.

He can’t help himself. He is such a punk.

Do you hear that Trump. A fucking Punk.

America will soon grow tired of your punk behavior. You may think you are all hot stuff but slowly you turn everyone against you. It is what punks do.

Hillary won’t even have to do much, you’ll hobble into the election with your numbers trending down down down. You will have killed it all yourself.

Punk.

Pumpkin Punk.

(And the Indian name I used above is a combo of Native American “Askutasquash ” which is a term for squash (pumpkin included) and “Pannoowau” an Algonquin name meaning “he lies” and stands for someone full of themselves and center of attention)

There is no better endorsement of @realDonaldTrump than to see people with no fear of a @HillaryClinton win to enjoy ability to reject.

He was a friend of Chuck C Johnson on Twitter but they had a falling out around the time he posted that ridiculous story about the image “analysis” by the cat lady that purportedly showed two different sized pixels in the same image (not possible). Then he tried to to solicit funds from people to take down Chuck. He then mounted a campaign to convince people to get our Charles to unblock him and Charles was like LOLWUT FUCK NO!

Dude is unstable as hell. I just check in every six months or so to re-confirm that fact. This shit though, his thesis that the GOP is strong because Republicans feel free to reject Trump and that means Hillary is doomed, that’s the most amazingly dumbshit political analysis I’ve ever heard.

So, as witness by my link earlier today to the livestream, NOAA’s current expedition Okeanos 2016 is in the middle of its mission, to explore the plateaus on the west side of the Marianas trench.

Anyway, among their first dives a couple of weeks ago, they discovered some human litter at the bottom of the ocean.

A food container.

And of all the food in the world, it had to be this:

43

The aluminum will remain until it gets remelted either by lava or when it eventually gets subducted into the depths.

An avocado #taco is like a 2-bite couplet in praise of Mexican ingredients: a chewy corn tortilla enclosing creamy slices of the-butter-that-grows-on-trees. Spare additions — a pinch of salt, a spray of lime juice or a sprinkle of chopped onions and cilantro — elevate the avocado, making a taco that’s poetically simple and satisfying. @karstenmoran took this photo while on assignment for @nytfood. I pulled out my telescope. Mars was bright. I think I could see some differences in colors but I’ll wait a few months and look at it again when it’s higher up.

Saturn was near Mars, and I could see the gap between the rings and the planet.

But the cool one was Jupiter. I could just make out the big red spot. There was also a black dot, which I am assuming is moon crossing in front of the planet.

In 2012 when parts of Chadron were briefly evacuated (including Chadron State College) over a prairie wildfire, we were covered in a pall of smoke here and were preparing to bug out ourselves. Many people in town cannot drive and we were organising transportation for others in the village.

Fire is scary when you can do nothing about it; our village fire department was up in the Sandhills fighting the Chadron fire. I feel for the people in Fort McMurray, who are in a lot worse spot than we were here… .

In terrifying news:

Solomon Islands: Rising sea levels blamed for the disappearance of five reef islands.

The coastlines of 33 reef islands were studied using aerial and satellite imagery from 1947 to 2015.

This information was integrated with local traditional knowledge, radiocarbon dating of trees, sea level records, and wave models.

Wave energy appears to play an important role in the dramatic coastal erosion observed in Solomon Islands.

Islands exposed to higher wave energy in addition to sea level rise experienced greatly accelerated loss compared with more sheltered islands.

Twelve islands we studied in a low wave energy area of Solomon Islands experienced little noticeable change in shorelines despite being exposed to similar sea level rise.

But of the 21 islands exposed to higher wave energy, five completely disappeared and a further six islands eroded substantially.

OK, pineapple on pizza can be good, but banana is sure heresy from the pitch-black depths of hell.

84
Der Flohgeisteffekt  May 7, 2016 • 1:27:28am

On the other hand—lots of people eat bananas while green as a savory item. I’ve had and made “fig pie” (I don’t know why it’s called that) from Trinidad—onions, bread crumbs, spices, green banana formed into something casserole-like—and served it with cheese. Not my favorite…it’s one of those recipes I bang my head against periodically…but it has a kind of logic in the way the components come together. I’ve even made it, found it bland, and considered serving it with some kind of sauce. Flavor combinations aren’t entirely cultural, but there’s certainly a component of familiarity that is cultural because it’s based on exposure.

So, she outlived the rest of humanity, and pretty much everything else and she was still around when the Sun went into its red giant phase. And everytime she was being vaporized, the nanobots fixed here. Over and over and over again.

Donald Trump Will Soon Get Classified Briefings. How Worried Should We Be?

“We have already established a plan for briefing both candidates when they are named,” said James Clapper, the director of national intelligence, at a breakfast hosted by the Christian Science Monitor last week. “We already have a team set up to do that and a designated lead.” While Trump and Hillary Clinton are nearly certain to become their parties’ nominees, Clapper’s office confirmed that intelligence briefings would not begin until the Republican and Democratic candidates are formally nominated in July.

Candidates first started receiving intelligence briefings during the 1952 election, on the orders of President Harry Truman, and the practice has continued during every presidential election since. Once conducted by the CIA, the briefings are now handled by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, or ODNI, which was established in 2005. The ODNI wouldn’t provide any other details about the process, including who carries out the briefings or what level of classified material the candidates are allowed to hear about. Clapper said during the breakfast that the briefing team tries to ensure that each candidate receives the same information.

Hell, it would shut down some of the argument on the left that the Establishment is trying to cut them out of the process. It might even make them more reasonable about what they’re willing to demand of the government in their political platform.
It might even make them more viable as a legit party that wins seats.
But the pressure not to appear to be ‘selling out’ or becoming a part of the abhorred System makes that unlikely.

One would have to establish a totally neutral US polling agency and task it with assessing the popularity of each party: those who pass a certain threshold, say 15% or more, should be allowed access to briefings.

Here’s Why Hillary Will Lose to Trump

Ha ha, made you look. Yes it’s a ‘Because/Bernie’ screed with graphs.

Lordy, talk about simplistic BS from a BS fan. First it’s the “He polls better!” argument that totally ignores that Bernie has faced virtually no real opposition from Republicans or the media. Even Clinton stuck to the issues, rather than attacking his very soft underbelly.

Then they move on to controversies, i.e. “Clinton says stuff that makes people angry,” ignoring that Bernie has been firing off whoppers since January. Writing off the South as “conservative” and saying he’d do better with black voters in the North? Saying you can’t be a moderate and a progressive? The long list of accusations he’s thrown at the DNC? The man is no stranger to saying shit that pisses people off, but again he’s faced little blowback from it.

Next is “scandals,” aka “Republicans will reheat a whole lot of nothingburgers,” as if the GOP has ever let up in their hatefest towards the Clintons. Meanwhile, Trump is dealing with two court cases this summer, at least one of which will mean he’ll have to testify under oath.

Up next is the same shit we’ve gotten a metric fuckton’s worth of from the media, i.e. “Trump is so dreamy because he’s an ‘outsider.’” They said the same thing about McCain and about Romney, the idea that voters will respond to him because he’s not part of “the establishment.” But the flip side to that is he’s got no experience in politics, no in-built filter, leaving him spewing toxic waste in such quantities that every demographic but angry white men is developing an instinctual hatred of the man.

Finally, it’s the classic “Bernie Bros are gonna take their ball and go home!” bit that we’re all supposed to shake and shiver over. You ever notice the hypocrisy of this argument, that they won’t vote for “the lesser evil” out of fear of Trump, but then insist we vote for Bernie if we don’t want Trump to be president?

The plague. For real, that’s what did it.

In the 14th/15th centuries, more than 1/3 of Europe died. Suddenly there was way less need for all available manpower to be hardscrabble farming the less productive lands, and a significant percentage of the remaining people could put their efforts to thinkier pursuits.

War played a big part of it too. The competition between the states of Europe was fierce, and there was a constant need to have the edge over your enemy.

There was a book I read on What-If scenarios. One was if the Caliphate had won the Battle of Tours. The author noted that for most of history in the Muslim World, they tended to be much more peaceful than Christian Europe. The author came to the conclusion that had the Caliphate come in and taken over, Europe would have been more peaceful, but at the same time, without the constant warring and competition, technology would have lagged.

As I am now 60, I wonder whether living forever, or at least longer than normal, would be a good thing or a bad thing. If I could maintain the same quality of life I have now — no major medical conditions, no need for medication — I’d like to stick around another 60 or so years to see how things turn out. If medical science permitted us to live healthy lives past 150 years, I wouldn’t mind giving it a go. There’s a lot of things I haven’t done that I’d still like to try.

But, living a long time in ill health or being frail and dependent on others would not appeal to me at all.

Immortality I suspect is impossible, given the laws of thermodynamics. That’s probably a good thing, since a bad immortal could be a real pain in the ass around mortals.

His parents are Pakistani. His dad was a bus driver for 25 years, and his mum was a seamstress. He has two brothers. They grew up in a rough part of town. A TV show, L.A. Law, inspired him to study law.

You know if he were actually the positive person his supporters believe him to be, he could just as easily go “Well we did a lot better than we could have dreamed for, thanks for all your support”, the end. Bernie could have pivoted weeks ago into using the home stretch to promote progressive politics. Could have thrown his funding and support behind Fetterman, could have started beating the war drums for other progressives running, could have done so much to move us forward. But instead he’s sucking all the air out of progressive politics and strengthening the case that this campaign was only ever about him and his ambitions. If anything has come out of his campaign, it’s that he’s made Hillary look moderate by comparison, which has only boosted her chances in November.

Agreed. He really could have done a lot more for progressive causes and candidates but he did so little. In the end, it seems it was all about Bernie. Lordy, talk about simplistic BS from a BS fan. First it’s the “He polls better!” argument that totally ignores that Bernie has faced virtually no real opposition from Republicans or the media. Even Clinton stuck to the issues, rather than attacking his very soft underbelly.

-Cut-

I get the feeling the reason Bernie supporters don’t buy the ‘he hasn’t been attacked by anyone’ to explain his polling would go down once he was seen as a threat is because they simply don’t see any attacks at all. So, in a way Bernie remains pure because he is unable to be attacked he is just that good. Or something. But yeah…awesomeness!

Heck - walk past bus stops or through airport terminals and train stations and there are posters up all over that are essentially “watch for, and report, suspicious activity”.

That this leads to these sorts of incidents is not surprising since some people’s definition of “suspicious activity” is pretty far out there. The question then goes towards who really should be pulled off the plane and interrogated interviewed.

There was an interesting statement over on 538, either one of the chats or one of the podcasts, that I found really kinda crazy.

Back in the day, supporting your party’s candidate for president was the sine qua non of party identity. You could support various policies, have differing opinions, but supporting your candidate was what being in the party meant, at the most fundamental level.

It’s fascinating that the GOP has flipped this on its head. There is really no public difference in policy between any GOP member of congress, they march in absolute lockstep. And yet you have somebody as central as Paul fucking Ryan waffling on supporting Trump.

<blockspace>Here is my metaphor: your book is a pudding stuffed with apposite observations, many well-conceived. Like excrement, it contains enough undigested nuggets of nutrition to sustain life for some. But it is not a tasty pie: it reeks too much of contempt and of envy.</blockspace>

Well it’s definitely not RuPaul’s Drag Race, because that is like a friendly game of cricket in a Yorkshire country village compared to what I see going on in the Republican party ATM.

One of those shows that the contestants don’t realize they’re being made fun of.

There was one a couple years ago where a bunch of American girls were taken to a Stately Mansion in the English countryside, sort of “The Bachelor”-ish, and thought they were competing to marry Prince Harry (he was an dry-wall installer who’d found a second career as a Harry impersonator).

I’m looking forward to seeing more state polling of Trump v. Clinton as we get closer to the general. Some recent polling shows Clinton down by only one in Georgia and up by nine in NC. If Trump is fighting to hold onto Georgia and getting crushed in N.C., we are looking at a potential landslide victory of historic proportions.

What makes this election unique is both candidates are going to be well known before the campaign really grinds. But yeah this could be quite a landslide.

I think the Democratic Party (or GOP, for that matter) could not spend a dime and it wouldn’t swing the vote more than 2-3%.

But no, we need to sit through eleventeen debates and unending TV spots and fundraising emails whose subject line starts with “Outrageous!:” and the rest of the sturm und drang.

I’m going to volunteer/stump/work the phones as if Trump was up 10% nationwide. Nothing short of a 20 point blowout for Hillary and an electoral college slaughter of Trump will wake this country up. Even then, that’s a stretch.

As more and more levelheaded Sanders supporters peel away from a campaign that is becoming obviously unwinnable, we see what’s left is not so attractive.

It was suggested that his primary campaign might be able to somewhat normalize the word “socialism” in this country. I don’t think that’s going to end up happening.

Chief justice’s suspension adds to Alabama’s political mess

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Alabama politics are at a low point even by Alabama standards: In a state that trails the nation in many areas, three top elected officials are embroiled in scandal or facing removal from office while a former governor serves time in federal prison on a corruption conviction.

Chief Justice Roy Moore was suspended from his job Friday and faces possible ouster over his attempts to block gay marriage following the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that effectively legalized same-sex marriage nationwide. It’s familiar territory for the Republican Moore, a Christian conservative who was previously removed from the same position in 2003 over a Ten Commandments monument and easily won re-election later.

Meanwhile, fellow Republicans tried to remove Gov. Robert Bentley by impeachment in the just-ended legislative session over a sexually charged scandal involving a top political aide, and an investigation continues. At the same time, GOP House Speaker Mike Hubbard awaits a state trial on 23 felony ethics charges that could result in his removal.

If convicted, Hubbard could even join the ranks of the imprisoned like former Gov. Don Siegelman, a Democrat who was convicted on federal influence-peddling charges.

All in all, it’s some of the worst of times for Republicans who promised to clean up state government after seizing control from Democrats who dominated for generations.

“I never recall when the top leaders of all three branches of government were simultaneously accused of improper behavior,” Bill Stewart, a retired political scientist from the University of Alabama, said Saturday.

It’s hard for state government to concentrate on issues like Medicaid or improving a dilapidated prison system when so many officials are fighting for their jobs, he said.

“It’s definitely a traumatic time,” Stewart said.

What was it that Neil Young said?

“Alabama..You got the rest of the Union, to help you along…..”

I submit that the leaders of the various cargo cults that make up the Republican coalition; the hate radio screechers, the sovereign citizens, the Tea Party, the Dominionists, the conspiraliars, the gold bugs etc.; are not particularly concerned with whether their guy wins or loses in the general. They can respond to defeat by claiming that he was “not really a conservative,” (with some justification in Trump’s case, ironically enough.)

Their real objective, fleecing the dupes, will probably be better served by a Clinton presidency, anyway. The radio and internet ads, book and video sales, church speaker fees, and other grift, will keep rolling in, if not increase. In particular, a new Clinton administration will be a kind of golden age for the conspiracy industry. Their 30 year backlog of Hillary conspiracy claims, and their notably forgetful audience, will allow the conspiraliars to recycle fossilized 1990s hate stories as though they were new revelations.

At the same time the pervasive but informal network provided by tax exempt fundamentalist churches, will allow them to stay competitive where the grift is linked directly to office, at the local and state levels. They will be able to pass bathroom bills and school vouchers, and excoriate the needy, to their evil black hearts’ content.

Just saw a NY Times article on Trump and the damage it is doing to the GOP…trying to make sense of what is pretty clear.

The article goes over much of the stuff Charles and LGF members have been saying for months like some of it was lifted from here.

But a couple paragraphs stood out.

New York Times - Republican Party Unravels Over Donald Trump’s Takeover

- cut-

The ties between Republican elites — elected officials, donors and Washington insiders — and voters have actually been fraying for years. Traditional power brokers long preached limited-government conservatism and wanted to pursue an immigration overhaul, entitlement cuts, free trade and a hawkish foreign policy, and nominees like John McCain and Mitt Romney largely embraced that agenda. Republican leaders also vilified President Obama and Democrats, stoking anger with rank-and-file conservatives.

Many Republican voters trudged along with those earlier nominees, but never became truly animated until Mr. Trump offered them his brand of angry populism: a blend of protectionism at home and a smaller American footprint abroad. And he was able to exploit their resentments and frustrations because those same Republican leaders had been nurturing those feelings for years with attacks on Mr. Obama, Democrats, illegal immigrants and others.

-cut-

Mr. Trump now feels so empowered that he does not think he needs the political support of the party establishment to defeat the likely Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton. He is confident that his appeal will be broad and deep enough among voters of all stripes that he could win battleground states like Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania without the support of leaders like Mr. Ryan, Mr. Trump said in an interview on Saturday.

Although he plans to meet with Mr. Ryan and House Republican leaders on Thursday, Mr. Trump said he would not materially change his policies or style to win their endorsements. “Everything is subject to negotiation, but I can’t and won’t be changing much, because the voters support me because of what I’m saying and how I’m saying it,” Mr. Trump said. “The establishment didn’t do anything to make me the nominee, so its support won’t really make much difference in me winning in November.” (Mr. Trump will, though, be somewhat dependent on the party’s fund-raising muscle since he has indicated he will not fully self-finance his general election campaign.)

One reason Mr. Trump takes a skeptical view of establishment support is that he does not believe much in the power of the Republican elite. He is the party’s presumptive nominee, after all, because the political forces that once might have halted his rise have been enfeebled. Leaders such as Mr. Romney warned in the direst terms that Mr. Trump’s nomination would stain the party and lead it to ruin. Venerable media outlets on the right, like National Review, sought to reprise their role as arbiters of who is fit to carry the banner of conservatism. Their pleas fell on deaf ears.

Mr. Trump’s arsenal was far more fearsome. Combining modern-day fame and an age-old demagogy, he bypassed the ossified gatekeepers and appealed directly to voters through a constant Twitter stream that seemed interrupted only by television appearances.

-cut-

Heh. The GOP, and really America, has a right nice mess to deal with righ’ c’her!

We have a bull loose in American politics and he’s wrecking stuffs!!! OMG!!!

If we are anal about it, it doesn’t even determine truth and untruth as such, it applies a certain methodology and gets certain results in the end. How much they’re truth or not truth is more of a philosophical question.

It was an EPIC speech. He also went on about how important it is to vote, even in midterms, or local elections, even when you’re not inspired. “And it’s not even hard. None of you have to guess how many jellybeans in a jar, none of you have to walk through attack dogs to get to the polling station, none of you are going to have to risk your lives. Other people already did that part, your parents and grandparents and great-greatparents. All you have to do is wait in line. You have no excuse.”
