Yet Another Massive Fail by Jim Hoft, Stupidest Man on the Internet

SMOTI rides again
Wingnuts • Views: 76,954

Paranoid right wing moron and fabled Stupidest Man on the Internet Jim Hoft does yet another massive face plant today, folks.

He seized on a tweet by the co-founder of the far right neo-fascist English Defence League to claim that London’s new Muslim mayor Sadiq Khan fooled voters before the election by having his wife wear Western clothes, then forced her back into a hijab after the election. The SMOTI screams: London Muslim Mayor Puts Wife in Hijab AFTER Election!

Here’s Muslim politician Sadiq Khan with his wife before the London mayoral election.

Sadiq disputed claims that he was linked to radical Islamists during the campaign.

And here is Sadiq and his wife after the election.

Now that the votes are counted Mrs. Khan gets back in her hijab.

Did you notice that the tweet by former EDL goon Tommy Robinson at the bottom of Hoft’s post doesn’t actually look like a tweet? That’s because he deleted it. And he deleted it because he was flat wrong.

And we know this because the woman in that “After” photo posted by Robinson came out on Twitter to refute this xenophobic nonsense:

Will Hoft delete his entire idiotic fear-mongering post now, or will he post a correction? It’s anybody’s guess. He almost never does, unless he’s so embarrassed by his own stupidity he has no choice.

RWNJs have so much concern for the freedom of non-Christian women. Concern that they can’t make decisions for themselves. Or is it just that the wrong man is making her decisions?

I think the primary concern is the non-Christian part. After you change that they’d be all for the husband controlling all facets of the relationship.

Do they need to keep sharp knives and other pointy objects away from Jimmy Hoft?

Actually it almost seems you have to keep everything away from him, he might mistake it for something else and hurt himself.

President Trump will have no choice; terrorists from Belgium, France and Britain will apply taqiya to deny their faith, so all travel from those countries must be banned.

That’s giving him too much credit. I’m guessing Donald Trump thinks he can appeal to voters of middle eastern descent by eating a taqiya salad and tweeting about it.

People from the Middle East will only cover about 20% of Muslims worldwide, so that’s not gonna work. The top four countries in terms of Muslim population are (in millions) Indonesia (204), Pakistan (178), India (172), and Bangladesh (145)—those countries alone account for just over a billion Muslims, or 62%. There’s a sortable table here.

Oh, and don’t forget two of those top four countries have nuclear weapons. But never mind that, you’re supposed to pee your pants over the new mayor of London leading a stealth jihad (though you’ve gotta admit he’s not being especially stealthy about it).

I would have liked her to have seen the first woman elected President. She was born the year women got the vote, and seeing one in the Oval Office would have been a nice bookend.
Why are they fussing over a Muslim mayor of London? Mayors deal with local matters: more bike lanes, potholes, and crosswalks than foreign policy. If anything Mayors must at times feel pretty helpless: they can’t set policy here, but are tasked with somehow managing the fallout of that policy when it shows up at their doorstep and in their neighborhoods. And with not enough resources to deal with it.
And about transgenders: the only thing different now is that trans people feel safe enough to say so and have the means to make their external appearance truly compatible with their internal feelings. Think about all of the years we simply didn’t know anything about it at all, and people simply did things to hide it, and went to the bathroom anyway. In any event, most people never look that closely to tell.

re: #19 The Very Reverend Battleaxe of Knowledge

McCrory is now claiming that the DOJ and U.S. Dept. of Education action in informing him that HB2 violates federal law is “making law.” Dummy. Title IX and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act have been federal law for over 50 years. He’s flailing and lying because he knows he f*cked up BIG TIME and doesn’t have a valid and reasonable justification for calling a special session to overturn Charlotte’s non-discrimination ordinance or for signing the transgender plus add-ons bill into law. He views himself as not a governor in a nation based on democratic principles but as a dictator who can do anything he wants to do in his state. Dude seems really surprised that he’s being challenged on the law by individuals, corporations and the feds. He’s an excellent example of the right-wing meme for Americans to take personal responsibility for their words and actions has always been a lie used to illustrate a character trait that no member of his party really possesses. It’s always someone else’s fault when they get caught trying to deprive others of their constitutionally-guaranteed civil rights. Although he admitted to Chris Wallace that there have been no instances of a transgendered person in NC molesting a kid, he went to his fall-back position of, “It could happen.” SMDH.

He cares about Democracy. The peoples has spoken. The GOP dare not disrespect the peoples. Theys needs to get behind his High Holiness King Pimp. His party has to respect the peoples. And support Trump The First. BUT, only if Trump The Malignant shows respect to those veterans of ours. He has to take back the nasty words. Not for Johnny, he’s a big boy, and well, it’s his party. No. Senator McCain wants Trump The Magnificent to say he was sorry to all you other failed war heroes who were captured. Because Trump The Magnificent can and will be a capable leader. Yes. Indeed. The surgery itself was a complete success. I had a bit of discouraging news in that the post-op pathology report revealed it to be a more aggressive type, which has an increased chance of recurring and thus will mean long-term monitoring; but it appears we caught this one in time and were able to remove it completely without complications. Bed rest, as mentioned, drove me absolutely freaking nuts, and I may never be able to lie perfectly flat on my back again; but once I was able to sit up and get moving, I was surprising the nurses with my ability to get up and walk about the halls. I owe some of that to the delicious painkillers, but hey, who’s counting?

The way things are going, I suspect our neighbors to the north will be happy to kick in for that.

Sadly you may be right.

If we keep up our pace in this country we may be the people that no one will want visiting or staying in their countries.

I imagine certain states already draw some raised eyebrows across the ponds.

I wasn’t able to get around to updates, largely because the time I did get away I was fighting severe pain issues (for the first couple of days) or catching up on sleep. Also, I spent the majority of the time on my phone rather than on my tablet, and LGF’ing from phone is hard enough when one is not cross-eyed from a potent drug cocktail.

Canadian Mother Gives Birth While On Vacation In The U.S., Faces $1 Million Hospital Bill

Jennifer Huculak…was six months pregnant when she flew to Hawaii to go on a vacation with her husband. But two days into her 2013 trip, her water unexpectedly broke; she spent the next six weeks on bed rest, and her daughter was delivered prematurely via an emergency C-section.

A year later, the Huculaks and their daughter are healthy and back at home. But they’re now facing medical bills that total $950,000 for the hospital care they received in the United States last fall. “It makes you sick to your stomach,” Huculak told CTV News. “Who can pay a million-dollar medical bill? Who can afford that?”

I understand that insurance is based on risk, and that a pre-existing condition is an extremely high risk that offers little profit margin for the insurer; but this is also why I think the health insurance market has it exactly bass-ackwards. For automotive insurance and other areas where they can differentiate voluntary from involuntary factors and so isolate the true risk of insuring an individual, that kind of a system works. But with the amazing complexity that is the human body, wouldn’t it be better to just provide a way of sharing costs between all of us animals, since we’re all going to have conditions and we all need to get them fixed in order to continue to live?

I fell and broke my wrist in the United States (Seattle) a couple of years ago.

First off, I had to use my credit card to pay for everything. Because I agreed to pay everything at once, I received a considerable discount that I would not have gotten if I had paid on an installment plan. The bill was almost exactly $16,000 (U.S. dollars).

When I got back to my home country, my insurance here paid me back in full. The paperwork here was minimal and the insurance people were used to such requests. It went quite smoothly.

I’ve told Mrs. Fish before, I’ve come a long way from my small-government days. There are a few things that I do believe are the duty and responsibility of every government to pay for. Defense happens to be one of them, but health and higher education are two others. I don’t understand why this is a difficult concept to grasp. If anything Mayors must at times feel pretty helpless: they can’t set policy here, but are tasked with somehow managing the fallout of that policy when it shows up at their doorstep and in their neighborhoods. And with not enough resources to deal with it.

That happened here in Toronto about twenty years ago when Mike Harris became premier.

He downloaded welfare to Toronto. He did not transfer any provincial funds to pay for this, nor did he grant the city any taxing power. “Here,” he announced, “this is your problem now.”

Between that and amalgamation of the separate municipalities that made up Toronto into a single city (to make things ‘more efficient’) we were in turmoil for more than a decade. Which was what he wanted. Like most cities Toronto is far more liberal than much of the province. With the chaos Mike Harris could rule unopposed.

One of the divers forgot her regulator (the thing that lets you breathe underwater) so I ended up lending her my rig for the class. Yeah, especially as good old laudanum:

Several physicians, including John Jones, John Brown, and George Young, the latter of whom published a comprehensive medical text entitled Treatise on Opium extolled the virtues of laudanum and recommended the drug for practically every ailment. “Opium, and after 1820, morphine, was mixed with everything imaginable: mercury, hashish, cayenne pepper, ether, chloroform, belladonna, whiskey, wine and brandy.”[5]

though presumably, not all at once (fun as that may have been).

Hmm, and I got a script from my doctor last week for a screening colonoscopy. Been due for one for over a year - and should get it done.

Main issue I am seeing so far is that the local hospitals all require an escort. And if you don’t have one they will cancel the procedure. Which, to me, is an issue since I live alone, have no relatives living nearby, and my friends and neighbors all work and I hesitate to ask them to waste vacation time on my account.

So I’m looking into what options I have. Some reading turned up a few; there’s now a “virtual” colonscopy where they use an MRI — that should produce a lovely bill. Also, some places will do an optical one without applying a sedative. (This is what requires the escort, not the procedure itself.)

I had a colonoscopy done six years ago - same situation as you - I took a cab back and forth. Even with sedation I was pretty alert through the procedure, so there was no issue as far as my doc was concerned.

In the old days the drug cocktail was diazepam (Valium) and meperidine (Demerol) - both have pretty good half-lifes - the discharge papers I had for the endoscopy under that cocktail stated: “Do not sign any legal paperwork for the next 24 hours.”
Now it appears the cocktail of choice is midazolam (Versed, which has a short half-life) and a short-acting fentanyl variant. But each doctor may use different drugs, so ya never know….

Well the recommendation with the scrip was going through a local hospital here in Philly. So I looked up their rules and instructions for one - and they require an escort. I suspect that given their size they probably don’t grant exemptions and will be sticklers about it.

There is some health support stuff attached to my company insurance. So I’ll call them and see whether they can help. Since this is preventative the missed work time shouldn’t cause an issue*. Possibly will just have to use another location, or dig harder to find someone willing to help out.

* - My reading indicated that about 50% of people who should get scoped avoid it. Stated reasons are being afraid of the procedure or anesthesia, losing work time, and not being able to find an escort to go along.

This is how it’s going to go.

Trump will tweet something like:

“I’ve been told by people really high up in the Clinton Administration that at Christmas Hillary would decorate their tree with dead baby parts. Disgusting!”

The media will then run the Hillary to ask if she really did that. When she denies it they’ll say that Trump has sources who say it’s true, and why would they lie?

It’s going to be like this for the next six damn months.

And a smart campaign doesn’t deal with it. A smart campaign turns the questions back around on the media: “Where’s his proof? Who are his sources? Why aren’t you doing your jobs investigating this?” They’ll try to argue that she’s “avoiding the issue,” but when they keep pressing the issue and keep getting rebuffed, eventually they’re going to move on.

Opioids are fucking scary to me, even the “tame” ones.

I was prescribed hydrocodone last year when I lost my footing on a camping trip, fell about 5-6 feet and came down on my feet, and screwed up my right knee and left ankle; I filled it and took one, but didn’t like it at all, so I toughed it out with Aleve and left the rest of the hydrocodone alone.

I was on hydrocodone for some months after my back surgery, and cut back without an issue as the pain improved. Am still on tramadol, and am cutting back on that, per instructions. Still quite a bit of pain when the pill runs out, but I don’t have the urge to push the clock. So just taking some doesn’t mean you are going to be addicted. That is not referencing anyone who knows they have a possible issue with addiction. They said this would be a year in recovery, and I believe it.

Yeah. I’m looking at a “mere” 4-6 weeks, with emphasis being put on the 6 weeks part. I’m no spring chicken, and the team had to remind me several times that they did, you know, cut open my spine and remove a decently-sized foreign growth and then close everything back up again.

I’m doing good on the cardio/blood pressure front (since the beginning of the year I’ve dropped about 10 points off of my blood pressure), but having serious trouble on the weight loss side. I’m 5’9”, 217lb, 46 year old male. I would like to lose down to 180. But I think I’ve tried dieting down so much that my body refuses to move, or even worse, any weight loss is done in such a way that my body thinks I’m starving it and then I start gaining it back by just staring at food.

I wasn’t a huge Kinks fan, but I caught a concert in the early 1980s and it was one of the top three concerts I’ve ever seen. Fun fact that probably everyone else knows but I didn’t until I heard an interview with American announcer Dave Davies on Fresh Air: Ray and Dave’s last name is pronounced “Davis.”

And I have a colonoscopy scheduled for 7/7.

I did 45 minutes around 5pm. :)

Actually, good job.

The only reason I can do 45 now is I have been doing the elliptical for about 4 months now. My first two weeks I did 20 minutes at a time and collapsed.

Edit: And 45 minutes would be boooooooring without a tablet and some anime.

I did 30 minutes on the stationary bike while watching sportspuck today. My goal has been 10K steps, or 40-60 minutes on the bike. Every day. This weekend has been bad since I wrenched my knee Friday or Saturday and it swelled up Saturday night. So I avoided the walking and figured the bicycle was low impact enough that it would be an acceptable substitute. Mainly peeved to have missed the only day of decent weather in the past 8-9 days.

I heard those Ray interviews where he talked about the pronunciation of his last name. I’m not sure that he’s not just playing a game with the interviewers. It seems kind of funny that he’d wait until he was in his 60’s to start correcting people about it.

On Thursday, May 12, after readers have voted for their favorite newspaper cuisine, acclaimed chef Victor Albisu of Washington’s Del Campo restaurant will select and prepare a wide variety of newsprint-based dishes. Tom Sietsema, The Post’s James Beard Award-winning food critic, will be on hand to taste and judge the dishes, and I will eat them — streamed live on The Washington Post’s Facebook page.

KKK incident at Westosha High underscores racial bullying

The day that a photo of a fellow student at Westosha Central High School donning a KKK outfit for a class presentation appeared last month, Mykah Simmons, 15, went on Facebook and posted a simple, damning sentence: “Well, that’s Central for you.”

A day later, she returned to Facebook and posted: “Bi-racial: Peaceful AND proud.”

Since starting school in August, Simmons wrote, she’s been called names — Shaquita, n——- and other slurs — and been physically accosted and threatened with lynching. In her post, she invoked the words of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., asking that she be judged by her character instead of the color of her skin, and called on her classmates to “promote peace and unity among us students at Central and everywhere else someone is being discriminated against.”

A day later, there was a third post, this one a photograph of one word etched onto the top of a school desk where Simmons sat down: “N———.”

Watching sportspuck while on the exercise bike was a key component in how I convinced myself to go exercise for the first 6 months.

My drive to adjust habits has been a combo of work-related programs*, knowing that I need to be in better shape, and doctor-prescribed due to hypertension and some indications of onset Type II diabetes.

My goal of avoiding thinking of the exercise as a “chore” has only partially succeeded. But using the weekends and evenings for “photo-hikes” has been good since it does get me to places I have not been before and I like taking photographs as it turns out.

While my weight loss has not been what I expected**, I am in generally better shape in terms of muscle tone and endurance.

* - One of the work programs scored me a Fitbit for free. No complaints there, and it’s useful for tracking a number of things.

** - Down about 15 pounds from a year ago. But got most of that loss in the first few months. Right now the loss rate is minor, but I also am not being as strict with the diet. So I need to reapply stricter standards there and see if I can accelerate the progress a bit.

I’ve used a Fitbit on and off for years and actually just picked up the Blaze two weeks ago. I got some interesting data on my heart rate during the playoff sportspuck last night, that’s for sure.

I only recently started making hitting my daily goal (which is a laughable 5k steps) a regular occurrence two months ago. It’s hard some days (when I don’t have my walk) and laughably easy others (when I have my walk).

I won’t pretend it’s not a chore, but it’s a chore I’ve started to feel weird if I don’t do so I regard that as progress. The sportspuck was a really good carrot for it though. (And the two are now really linked in my head, in a positive way, because I feel like the Sharks announcers have been my friends through this. Which is silly, but there you go.)

re: #291 TK-421

The sad thing about this is that it never ends. As a POC, I am rarely comfortable when I go anywhere because, without warning, I can depend on someone saying something ugly or giving me an ugly look, judging me based on my race. If I live to be 100, I’ll never forget the day I was in Walmart and had my Prada handbag I’d rewarded myself with for my pending retirement that year. As my daughter and I were walking in the store, this elderly white couple were behind us, and I heard the man say, “She bought that purse instead of spending that money on her kids.” “I bet she pays for her groceries with food stamps.” First, I had a husband when my daughter was born, and I didn’t become pregnant until after we were married. Second, I had a good job and could afford to splurge on the purse after working 33 years in the same profession. Third, my daughter is my only kid, and she is a high school and college graduate and has no kids at 34. Fourth, I’ve never been on public assistance. This man profiled, stereotyped, and scapegoated me just from looking at my purse. He knew nothing about me, but most of all, he had no idea that everything he thought about me was wrong. Evidently, that didn’t matter to him because I was a black female with a designer handbag and he was wondering how I could afford it. I’ve had some refuse to sit beside me in doctors’ offices, refuse to get on elevators with me, and say things to me that I’d never say to them. It’s an ongoing lack of respect that is based on what I look like on the outside. This is what this young lady has to deal with on a daily basis at her high school, and it never ends because there is always going to be someone who’d rather draw conclusions about someone instead of talking to them and getting to know them.

I just found out from a friend of mine that a diver I know and respect greatly in both RL and a fourm, who has helped me out in the past, took a DCS (DeCompression Sickness (“bends”)) hit a couple of weeks ago after a 2 hour cave dive. Ended up doing a full deco schedule in a chamber and is ok now.

Turns out that she had undiagnosed diabetes, and the Doc thinks that it was caused by dehydration from it. She is also a bit heavy, and fat tissue tends to absorb nitrogen faster and release it slower then muscle tissue. I know that she’s an excellent technical diver, always plans them safe (or at least as safely as cave diving with a rebreather can be). I’ve seen the dive profile and the settings she was using, and it was a very ordinary type dive for her, with what would normally be a good factor for conservationism built into it. (and this is one area where being conservative is a good thing)

Luckily she has DAN (Divers Assurance Network) insurance, and it’s covering all the costs. She’s a great lady and a great diver and if you could send out some good positive energy to TSD I’m sure she’d appreciate it.

“My financials show I’m worth more than $10 billion by any stretch of the imagination,” Trump said. “Has tremendous cash. Tremendous cash flow. You don’t learn much from tax returns. But I would love to give the tax returns. But I can’t do it until I’m finished with the audit.”

Reince is going to need an intervention when this election ends.

He’s never going to show his taxes because he’s not worth $10 billion.

The image may be unfortunate but my wife who has had arthritis (juvenile rheumatoid arthritis) for her whole life credits yoga, exercise and a willingness to keep moving despite light to moderate pain with her ability to walk and work. Everyone is different but in general maintaining flexibility as best you can is good advice. FWIW

re: #320 jaunte

Bottom line, Trump has consistently exaggerated how much he owns and downplayed how much he owes. And he’s an extreme optimist when it comes to valuing his assets: He assumes the very best-case scenario and maybe rounds up from there. In Trump’s mind prices are always on the rise and buyers will always appear. But when we talk to analysts and real estate agents, they almost always unanimously agree that Trump’s numbers don’t add up.

Owning 30% of a project means owning 30%. Just because you didn’t have to put money in doesn’t magically boost your equity to 50%. And a golf course isn’t actually worth the two dozen megamansions one might at some point build on that land. You might need zoning permits and environmental surveying — not to mention you have to actually build the homes and sell them at prices high enough to hit the profits you projected on the back of an envelope years ago. There are plenty of stages where things could go wrong, and if the housing bubble taught us anything it’s that real estate doesn’t always go up, up, up. It’s a stretch to say the current value of a piece of land is exactly what the profit could be on a bunch of homes in the future if everything goes according to plan.

I don’t understand the Arthritis Foundation recommending that people take up yoga instead of pain meds. How in the fuck is a person suffering from intense pain supposed to do this (picture found on arthritis.org)==>
It’s just cruel.

That’s a more advanced posture than they’re probably thinking of.

I think it’s worth more to him to lose the election than to win it. And all of his supporters will go on being his willing suckers.

Consider it as good as done. Decompression is nothing to muck about with. Did anything go wrong, or is it just the environmental factors you mentioned?

Very routine dive for her, 2 hours at a max depth of 99, nothing out of the ordinary in any way, just what we sometimes call an “undeserved hit”, where you’ve done everything by the numbers and it still gets you. Based on the computer log she’s posted, she was doing it all with a good safety level. But her body didn’t agree.

Well, I got a reprieve from classes this morning. The first hour and 15 went fine, taught the lesson, gave a quiz, then boom! All the power goes off. We waited 10 minutes, and a young fella comes in to tell us the power would be off for three hours. So, I let the class go early, and told the student monitor of the other section that class would be canceled. Both were listening classes, and electricity was kinda necessary for my lessons.

So, here I am in my flat hanging with youse guys and dolls.

On the bright side, who the fuck reads Salon anyway? Only those people who wouldn’t vote for Hillary if she were the last woman on Earth. So, probably minimal damage.

Maybe it’s not an issue in Vermont? We all know that Vermont is a microcosm of the nation at large.

re: #316 Reality Based Steve

RBS

In a previous job, did a lot of work for underwriters re SCUBA incidents in the Caribbean.

Divers covered by DAN who got bent or otherwise injured did a lot better, than those who were not covered.

e.g. Cost of chartering an aircraft to fly at low altitude to the nearest decompression chamber or non 3rd world medical facility ain’t cheap.

Salon: “WE’RE TOO PURE AND PRECIOUS! ALL SHALL LOOK UPON US AND DESPAIR!!”
(someone flings a turd *splap* right in the face)
Salon: “YOU’RE JUST INSANELY JEALOUS!”

I confess, I was a regular at Gawker until they started going full ABC in pursuit of Bernie’s blessing, and I quit. I dropped by today and Melissa Cronin had sharted this out.

The incredible thing is the backlash in the comments. My own comments have been ‘the grays’ forever because I haven’t hesitated to criticize their writers which is verbotten, but the negative response is so overwhelming they can’t possibly shut it all down. Happy.

I’ve been dealing with psoriatic arthritis for the last three years. Inflammation and the pain pills never seemed to help much.

I’m one step away from a biologic. At that point I’m hoping to start exercising regularly.

I hope you have good insurance.

I’ve got rheumatoid arthritis. The biologic my doc wants me on… is about $1200/month.

He won’t, his numbers won’t improve at all, he’ll go out and fail miserably, and then he’ll claim conspiracy because of his yuuuge support numbers and complete lack of results.

And then he will stiff all his contractors.
