Charles, I think you need to have a word with the companies who you lend ad space to.
Over the past couple of pages, I’ve had ads which basically render Firefox as a whole unusable, and which judging by the behavior seems to be attacking my system. Basically, attempts to kill the plugin container causes the flash to respawn, even when I send the process a SegV.

And before any of you wise-asses make the crack about $59.95 a year, it is FUCKING MONEY I DON’T HAVE ASSHOLES.

Yep. And it’s no fun to get “don’t run adblocker then” too. I mean, I HAVE INTENTIONALLY DISABLED ADBLOCKER so Charles can get the revenue, but the performance penalty and occational system crashes (yes, flash has managed to crash my system, on LGF, on a number of occations) makes it very hard for me to continue.

Yeah. So you get the idea of just what kind of rig this malware is managing to bring to its knees, it’s an AMD FX(tm)-4100 Quad-Core Processor with 8 Gigs of RAM, running on a Asus M5A88-EVO Mobo. It’s not a puny netbook. It’s a fucking gaming rig from not that many years back and it stalls under the load of the flash fecal matter.

I had the same problem with LGF on Firefox: my tech suggested I try using Chrome instead, which seems to help a bit. The site still freezes occasionally, but noticeably less often than with FF.

I can feel for you. Raw Story routinely hangs my system.

Running an AMD Phenom II X4 965 w/32 gigs ram on a Gigabytes GA-78LMT-USB-3 motherboard. I think part of my problem is my video card. A NVidia GeForce GT 630 w/4096 MB of memory running in dual monitor mode. I need a better card.

If it’s Flash that’s causing your problems, you should try installing Flashblocker for Firefox: addons.mozilla.org

This could also be related to a Flash vulnerability that was just revealed today: littlegreenfootballs.com

But Flashblocker should solve this too, because it simply stops Flash content from loading unless you want it to.

And sorry to say, this is why I avoid disabling my ad blockers or my flash blockers. There’s no effort made by ad networks to keep malware and viruses out of ads. And I value my $750 computer more than I do anyone’s ad revenues.

Bottom line is that Flash needs to go away. If I become aware of an ad-related problem that I can narrow down to a specific ad server, I’ll definitely report it to the company we use. But we’re not using a shady ad company; it’s one of the most well-known companies in the business, and they in turn get a lot of their ad content from Google Adsense.

Letter from his attorney that never mentions the word audit. I guess under continuous examination suffice.

In the letter, Dillon and Nelson confirm that Trump’s “personal tax returns have been under continuous examination by the Internal Revenue Service since 2002, consistent with the IRS’s practice for large and complex businesses.”

This site runs better with Flash turned off.

If possible set the Flash setting so that it doesn’t run automatically and asks you to allow it every time. I have Firefox set that way and Chrome set disabled all the time.

Very few times Flash is needed for content in the pages.

It doesn’t seem to stop the ads either. So Charles gets the views.

I’m not sure, but it seems the ads come in running HTML video or something. If you have Flash set to run, then they come in as Flash video and cause issues.

I just found instructions at a site called Hacker News (I googled ‘turn off flash player’ and didn’t notice the name until after I opened it. Luckily it was just instructions and didn’t ask me to click anything. Oops. All of the other choices were Google Store apps). They told me how to turn flash player off. The wording wasn’t exactly the same as at the link (edit: didn’t link because ‘Hacker News’), but I switched to the ‘let me choose when I want to run content’ setting. We’ll see what happens. Hopefully I’ll be able to run AmazonMusic and read LGF at the same time now without crashing the player. I haven’t seen any difference at LGF yet.

Cops do not like people that run from them. Over the course of the last 30 years or so this seems to be their common reaction to not stopping for them. It is not right at all but it happens all the damn time.

The station seems to have a cozy arrangement with the P.D.

Police credit SkyFox with tracking down high speed chase suspect

And yet, isn’t the media the organ responsible for reporting on abuses of power like this and bringing about change? Instead, they just take a check and turn a blind eye wherever they’re told.

Yep, make the cops look bad and you don’t get info that lets you scoop the other stations. At least someone at this station had the moral courage to get this info out. Though the headline makes it seem as the perp was the one who was combative.

Police chase ends with physical altercation, suspect in handcuffs

Either way, heads are going to roll both at the P.D. (HA!) and the T.V. station

The headlines always make it look like the perp is combative; that’s the default narrative. And since it’s overwhelmingly easier for white Americans to believe that someone was fighting the police than that the police totally beat the living shit out of someone in broad daylight, it’s impossible to overcome.

Stairs are everywhere….accidents happen…. Yes. SOP. Par for the course. But the reporter using the phrase “Incorporating the arrest”…….FFS
And don’t get me wrong. It can go to hell in a heartbeat in a high speed chase. I can see wanting to lay some leather. But, “incorporating”….That was no sucker punch. It was an incorporation..

To all the lizards who offered sympathy and hopeful words after our cat Hootie ran away and disappeared some six weeks ago in the aftermath of a natural disaster:

This morning a kind lady called and said that she had seen one of my lost-cat flyers at a local vet’s, and it sounded a lot like her new cat Jack, a stray who had showed up on her doorstep about five weeks back. The timing was right, but her place is more than fifteen miles away and on the other side of what passes for a town around here.

Of course I went to see, telling myself all the way that the odds were a thousand to one it was just some other furry black cat. But when she and her husband, who have ten other cats, tempted “Jack” out from under their porch, it was Hootie without any shadow of doubt.

So a miracle, after all.

He’s home now, but cowering in the corner like he did the very first day we brought him from the shelter. I have the feeling he might actually have been happier living what amounted to the life of a feline beach bum at the other place.

Anymore it is impossible to overcome anything related to police narratives. They always seem to get away with their punk bully ways and what they say is usually sold by the media and bought by the majority of the public.

The real bad thing is that our politicians more or less can’t even mention policing…much like guns. They are political career killers and it should not be that way.

Welcome to America. We have entities that are almost untouchable. And it should not be that way.

I read a book years ago—don’t remember the title or author—but it was written by an ex-cop (IIRC) telling stories about the crazy crap cops do and get away with because no one believes they’d do that sort of stuff. The one that sticks in my mid after all these years is a cop who pulled a woman over for some sort of traffic violation—she started arguing with him for whatever reason so he ate her driver’s license. Yes, I said he ate it.

He then threatened to give her another ticket for driving without a license. Realizing that she’s sound like a lunatic if she stood in court trying to convince a judge that a cop with many years on the force literally ate her license, she just gave in and accepted the original ticket without further argument.

Report alleges that poultry workers wear diapers as bathroom breaks are denied

Workers in plants run by the largest U.S. poultry producers are regularly being denied bathroom breaks and as a result some are reduced to wearing diapers while working on the processing line, Oxfam America said in a report Wednesday.

“It’s not just their dignity that suffers: they are in danger of serious health problems,” said Oxfam America, the U.S. arm of the U.K.-based global development group. The group works for a “just world without poverty” and focuses on topics ranging from refugees in Greece to malnutrition.

The report cited unnamed workers from Tyson Foods Inc., Pilgrim’s Pride Corp., Perdue Farms Inc. and Sanderson Farms Inc. who said that supervisors mock them, ignore requests and threaten punishment or firing. When they can go, they wait in long lines even though they are given limited time, sometimes 10 minutes, according to the report. Some workers have urinated or defecated themselves while working because they can’t hold on any longer, the report said. Some workers “restrict intake of liquids and fluids to dangerous degrees,” Oxfam said.

Sometimes it seems that way…and some of the politicians seem to want it to be so we can compete and they and their big backers can make even more money.

The Genetics of Staying in School

For that reason, you can’t reliably use these 74 variants to predict how long a child will stay in education, or to stratify children according to how much support they’ll need. “It’s not a smart way to use the score,” says Benjamin. The same applies to any unwarranted talk of eugenics—of selecting for embryos with particular genes, or even using gene-editing technologies to alter said genes. These would be dumb ways of ensuring smarts; if you’re really that concerned, you’re better off just dating someone clever.

Well, okay, but let’s just step back and figure out what is the implication of “dating someone clever.”

Essentially what is asserted by that sentence is that the children of two “clever” people do have an inherent advantage (both through DNA and through environment).

Which I think contradicts the hand waving of not being concerned about eugenics.

Anyway, here is the paper and the FAQ the paper’s authors put together for the unwashed masses:

Loquats - better year than last year, but several of the better trees in this region have been cut down :-(

Not as good as the last El Nino year, though.

We still have not had enough rain, and the trees are showing it.

This year I’ve only had fruit from 3 neighborhood trees (well, one’s outside my door.) Flavor is ok. Flesh size is ok. Production per tree is about average, for the limbs that have survived.

There is no such thing as “bad attention” to someone wired like him.

He’ll never understand that he’s a dead-end subspecies of internet-bred shithead who is, in a way similar to Donald Trump, a last angry flare-up of disease before the cure settles in. He gets attention because people rightly hate him and want his ilk gone from the earth (so the rest of us can live in peace), not because he’s some fucking revolutionary.

It would be an interesting experiment to see what happens to him when his internet is shut off. I’m picturing a creepo in a library on the public computer, posting text-only screeds to alt.news.crank.

When I used to raise fruit flies in high school, females were always bigger than the males, and the males abdomen tips were always darker. I could usually tell their sexes apart without a stereoscope. I think that might be pretty common across all fly species.

Or on “The Political Cesspool”, which I caught about 5 minutes of one time, and needed to go stand under a shower of hand sanitizer to feel clean again.

The Political Cesspool is a weekly far-right talk radio show founded by Tennessean political activist James Edwards and syndicated by the organizations Liberty News Radio Network and Accent Radio Network in the United States. First broadcast in October 2004 twice a week from radio station WMQM, per Edwards it has been simulcast on Stormfront Radio, a service of the white nationalist Stormfront website[4] and as of 2011 is broadcast on Saturday nights on WLRM, a Christian radio station in Millington, Tennessee. Its sponsors include the white separatist Council of Conservative Citizens and the Institute for Historical Review, a Holocaust denial group.[5] en.wikipedia.org
