Donald Trump Pulls the Football Away From Bernie Sanders

Trump as Lucy, Sanders as Charlie Brown
Politics • Views: 47,315

Well, it took Donald Trump one whole day to go from “I’d love to debate Bernie” to backing out entirely.

“Based on the fact that the Democratic nominating process is totally rigged and Crooked Hillary Clinton and Deborah Wasserman Schultz will not allow Bernie Sanders to win, and now that I am the presumptive Republican nominee, it seems inappropriate that I would debate the second place finisher,” Trump said.

Saw this coming. The really sad thing is that Bernie Sanders fell for Trump’s obvious scam.

I understand Bernie is low on the ol’ greenbacks and maybe he is trying to get as much media coverage as possible with stunts just like this. And if that is the case he just got “out-news-cycled” by TRUMP®.

I never did buy into that any news is good news thinking.

Testy Toad T  May 27, 2016 • 1:34:52pm

I would love to know just how apoplectic Trump’s advisors, insofar as such people exist, are about this decision. It is the most amazing Democratic wedge possible, something I literally never would have imagined.

Can you imagine the stunning political coup it would have been for Clinton to have a sober, reasoned debate with Ted Cruz a few months ago? Leave Trump entirely on the sidelines, like he’s a sideshow act? You don’t get an opportunity like that more than once in a generation.

And he pisses it away. Dumbfuck Donald.

9
HappyWarrior  May 27, 2016 • 1:35:58pm

Sanders would have less delegates if he ran as a Republican but somehow the DNC is rigged against him.

Boxing promoter Bob Arum offers $20M for Trump-Sanders debate

Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions has offered to promote a proposed Donald Trump vs. Bernie Sanders debate, pledging to donate the proceeds, a minimum of $20 million, to charity.

“It’s the debate of the century between two of the top pound-for-pound politicians in the country — Mr. Trump, the Republican Party’s presumptive nominee and Senator Sanders, the Democratic candidate,” Mr. Arum said in a press release. “We have two contenders ready, willing and able to go mano a mano over the most important issues facing the United States. And I am ready to promote it.”

Donald Trump backs out of debate with Bernie Sanders
By HADAS GOLD 05/27/16 04:16 PM EDT
Donald Trump will not participate in a debate with Sen. Bernie Sanders, the GOP nominee said in a statement on Friday.
“Likewise, the networks want to make a killing on these events and are not proving to be too generous to charitable causes, in this case, women’s health issues. Therefore, as much as I want to debate Bernie Sanders - and it would be an easy payday - I will wait to debate the first place finisher in the Democratic Party, probably Crooked Hillary Clinton, or whoever it may be.”

This is frankly hysterical. Why Trump would decline this opportunity demonstrates just how stupid he is (hello, Paul Manafort!).

But as an exemplar of just how clueless Sanders is, and just how unfit he is, there’s really no parallel. Hey, Bernie! You just got pimped big time! And you were too stupid to see it coming!

If anyone ever had any question whether Bernie was qualified to be president, you just had your question answered. Not only did an amateur just get schooled, he got schooled by a fellow amateur. Like this wasn’t predictable? Like anyone with a pulse didn’t see this coming?

Yeah, like I want to give the launch codes to THIS guy!

Other countries must look at us with combination of pity, confusion and abject terror, that a shitheel like Trump is this close to running the US.

Of course, the lone Canadian I know is on the “Clinton is just as horrible as Trump” train. I try to cut her some slack as she’s not familiar with our political scene, but it’s still irritating.

I got frustrated with Bill, and get frustrated with HRC, in that they seem to know where the line is; know what’ll happen when they cross it; and fucking do it anyway. Kind of a “Better to seek forgiveness than ask permission” on steroids.

That said, HRC has been vetted relentlessly harassed for a quarter of a century, and every. Fucking. Time, she’s cleared. Usually by people who are staking their political careers on her total political and personal destruction.

Yet, somehow, to the average conservative and our oh-so-precious independent voters, she’s as much a monster as Trump.

Don’t even get me started on the “We must stop HRC because she’s Obama Part 3” crowd. Yeah, you stupid fucksticks, this record high stock market, dropping unemployment, and falling uninsured rate makes Jesus Washington cry.

God, this fucking country embarrasses me sometimes.

Today in sociopathy:

Victor Vizcarra, 48, of Los Angeles, said he would much prefer Mr. Trump to Mrs. Clinton. Though he said he disagreed with some of Mr. Trump’s policies, Mr. Vizcarra said he had watched “The Apprentice” and expected that a Trump presidency would be more exciting than a “boring” Clinton administration.

“A dark side of me wants to see what happens if Trump is in,” said Mr. Vizcarra, who works in information technology. “There is going to be some kind of change, and even if it’s like a Nazi-type change.People are so drama-filled. They want to see stuff like that happen. It’s like reality TV. You don’t want to just see everybody be happy with each other. You want to see someone fighting somebody.”

Milo Yiannopoulos Literally Carried Into UCSB Event on a Throne While Blasting ‘America F*** Yeah!’

Following the protests that disrupted his recent appearance at DePaul University, Milo Yiannopoulos was given an appropriately regal entrance Thursday at University of California, Santa Barbara.

The conservative firebrand and self-proclaimed “Internet supervillain,” entered the lecture hall where he was scheduled to give his talk “Feminism is Cancer,” while being carried in on a throne by a crew of students all sporting red “Make America Great Again” hats. The procession was led by a man waving a large American flag and included a full-sized cardboard cutout of Donald Trump (whom Yiannopoulous calls “Daddy”). All the while, the satirical jingoist anthem “America F*ck Yeah!” from the movie Team America: World Police was blasting.

Wow, they’re getting this landing thing down now.

Yeah, it’s rather impressive, as well as a testament to their dedication to make this a feasible reality. Less adventurous companies would (in absence of federal money) called it quits after the first couple failures, dubbing the project a “failure” and pursued more “proven” methods.

The main reason I have so much respect for Elon Musk. He’s not about to let a little thing like crashing one (or two) on the pad stand in the way of his ultimate goal.

One does assume that since the goal is to re-use them, they need to eventually move them for testing to make sure that is feasible.

There is a lot analysis and research to be done before they can launch a refurbished
booster on its second trip. Engineers will have to figure out just how accurate their models for the process are, what will have to be replaced and reconditioned, and determine the best procedure for making it a routine operation. At this point, the fired boosters are basically research specimens for doing that.
It will be a major milestone, THE major milestone in fact, when a booster makes its second successful landing.

Yeah, and it’s Silicon Valley.

I still can’t justify paying that for it. I’d do season tickets for next year (they’ve held some back as a carrot for that) but we don’t even know if we’re going to be here next year (and honestly that would still be a hard sell to mr. klys, but dammit I’d try).

Yep. So they’re going to have to move them out from KSC at some point anyway, because I doubt they’ve got all the personnel and equipment down there for the testing.

I hear that. We’ve looked at playoff tickets in the past for Blackhawk’s games, but 4 figures for a couple of tickets is just obscene. Especially since those were for the cheap seats at an early playoff game; didn’t even want to know what seats near the ice cost. For the prices those go for, ticket holders should be considered part-owners.

List for the cheap seats was $305 for Game 3 (first home game). A little less for Game 6 (last home game) - those might have been the $250. They were all sold out by the time I went in to look about buying, and on the resale market they’re $550+ for the same seats.

By comparison, I paid ~$43 a game for most of my games this year, for similar seats.

re: #77 William Lewis

It’s nice to see this working but I still wish they had continued to work on the X-33 back in the early 2000’s as I think a real SSTO is an even better option for the long term.

The energy budget says no to SSTO, sadly as chemical fuels don’t produce sufficient specific impulse. Even an partial-airbreather SSTO is unfeasible due to parasitic weight penalties absent some very exotic engineering as in the SATAN engine concept. Nuclear SSTO might work but not in a biosphere. The Fabulous Flyback First Stage (FFFS) has now been demonstrated by SpaceX (and the Shuttle previously) but the previous three first stages they’ve successfully recovered are sitting in a hangar and they’ve not announced what they plan to do with them. The certainly look like they’ll need at least a new coat of paint before they fly again (if ever). They may just be parted out.

As for Lockheed (actually ULA, a 50-50 with Boeing) it’s got a Delta 4 Heavy sitting on the pad right now with a 20-tonne Black Chamber NRO bird tucked away in the fairing. There’s nothing in the SpaceX inventory that can lift something of that weight. Yet. The only other comparable launcher to the Delta 4 Heavy is the Ariane V ES which lifted the 20-tonne ATV space station resupply cargo ships.

Paid an outrageous amount for “Hamilton” tickets last month. Justified it by the fact that I’d have to be working my ass off in Yonkers for 3-1/2 weeks following my night at the theater (and would thus be able to pay for the tickets.) I love seeing shows when the original cast is still in them, so that when I listen to the music, it’s the people I’ve seen doing the singing.

Shortly after we bought our tickets, I heard that our obscene price was about 1/3 of what they were then going for.

Alton Brown did a Good Eats on puff pastry. “Yes, I know how to make it by hand. No, it’s not worth it.”

I never even tried to make puff paste or Danish pastry because the frozen dough is so convenient.

I have made hand-stretched strudel dough and even though it is hard, it is so worth it. But nowadays I use packaged phyllo sheets.

Shavuot (Jewish holiday of “Pentecost”) is coming up and it’s traditional to make dairy foods. So I will make Classic New York Cheesecake. But I think I will just get packaged frozen cheese blintzes. I did not have time to make from-scratch blintzes last year so I bought the frozen ones and I was surprised they are really quite good.

And there is Oreo Trifle.

They are less horrific, for both the Japanese and us, than if we had done an attack on the mainland.

They pulled it off before they managed the successful boat landing.

The boat landing allows a lot more flexibility in launch paths and launching pads, however, which is why it is so important to master. (And you could argue that they’re doing a pretty good job of it and I would agree, but I wouldn’t say it’s completely mastered yet. I don’t think they would either.)

landing on the drone ship allows a greater variety of launch/orbital profiles. Returning for ground landing requires more fuel from the first stage be used to control the return trajectory. Limiting what orbit the payload can achieve.

Nearly all of the sea landings were out of necessity. The majority of SpaceX’s customers have been communications companies with satellites requiring geosynchronous orbits. That means you need to launch very high and very fast, so much so that the Falcon 9 has just enough fuel to deorbit and land. Only low orbit missions (like next month’s ISS Dragon mission) have enough fuel to reverse direction and return to the launch site. Unfortunately that will be at night. I look forward to the video opportunities of a daytime landing.

It’s strictly a matter of how much residual propellant the first stage has left. If the payload is near the weight limit, or the launch is into a high orbit (worst of all a geosynchronous transfer orbit like the last two), flying back to the Cape is not an option. The landing will also be faster than on a Dragon launch for example. But they have nailed two of these hot and fast landings in a row.

re: #129 The Vicious Babushka

I never even tried to make puff paste or Danish pastry because the frozen dough is so convenient.

I have made hand-stretched strudel dough and even though it is hard, it is so worth it. But nowadays I use packaged phyllo sheets. …

In my cooking days, I made homemade phyllo. Well. It looked like lattice! Lumps, strings and super thin bits. So I use packaged phyllo when I get the urge to make a baklava.

There are two words I’d use to describe the chump after today:

1. He’s a bully;
2. He’s a coward.

re: #181 Decatur Deb

Oh yes. Self-doubt is largely an exercise for this generation. If he had let the invasion of Japan go forward he would have been torn to bits in the street by Gold-Star Mothers.

Wikipedia: Purple Heart

During World War II, nearly 500,000 Purple Heart medals were manufactured in anticipation of the estimated casualties resulting from the planned Allied invasion of Japan. To the present date, total combined American military casualties of the seventy years following the end of World War II—including the Korean and Vietnam Wars—have not exceeded that number. In 2003, there remained 120,000 Purple Heart medals in stock. The existing surplus allowed combat units in Iraq and Afghanistan to keep Purple Hearts on-hand for immediate award to soldiers wounded in the field.[6]

re: #153 FormerDirtDart

landing on the drone ship allows a greater variety of launch/orbital profiles. Returning for ground landing requires more fuel from the first stage be used to control the return trajectory. Limiting what orbit the payload can achieve.

Yes, there is much more ocean then land on the face of our marble.
