California Gov. Jerry Brown Endorses Hillary Clinton

A big endorsement for Clinton
Politics • Views: 41,613

A week before the California primary election, Gov. Jerry Brown announced today that he’s supporting Hillary Clinton for president: An Open Letter to California Democrats and Independents.

This is a big one for Clinton, from a governor with a 74 percent approval rating among California Democrats. Here’s the full text of Gov. Brown’s open letter:

On Tuesday, June 7, I have decided to cast my vote for Hillary Clinton because I believe this is the only path forward to win the presidency and stop the dangerous candidacy of Donald Trump.

I have closely watched the primaries and am deeply impressed with how well Bernie Sanders has done. He has driven home the message that the top one percent has unfairly captured way too much of America’s wealth, leaving the majority of people far behind. In 1992, I attempted a similar campaign.

For her part, Hillary Clinton has convincingly made the case that she knows how to get things done and has the tenacity and skill to advance the Democratic agenda. Voters have responded by giving her approximately 3 million more votes – and hundreds more delegates – than Sanders. If Clinton were to win only 10 percent of the remaining delegates – wildly improbable – she would still exceed the number needed for the nomination. In other words, Clinton’s lead is insurmountable and Democrats have shown – by millions of votes – that they want her as their nominee.

But there is more at stake than mere numbers. The Republican nominee, Donald Trump, has called climate change a “hoax” and said he will tear up the Paris Climate Agreement. He has promised to deport millions of immigrants and ominously suggested that other countries may need the nuclear bomb. He has also pledged to pack the Supreme Court with only those who please the extreme right.

The stakes couldn’t be higher. Our country faces an existential threat from climate change and the spread of nuclear weapons. A new cold war is on the horizon. This is no time for Democrats to keep fighting each other. The general election has already begun. Hillary Clinton, with her long experience, especially as Secretary of State, has a firm grasp of the issues and will be prepared to lead our country on day one.

Next January, I want to be sure that it is Hillary Clinton who takes the oath of office, not Donald Trump.

With respect,

Jerry Brown

Brown is trying to not be dismissive of Sanders. This is basically his olive branch to the Sanders’ campaign because further alienation would cause more damage to the Democrats cause. It would be foolish for Sanders to refuse it.

Sanders have been very foolish this campaign season.

What a ridiculous characterization of this open letter.

And in other news, Florida Man strikes again: Driver runs over motorcyclist in apparent Lutz road-rage incident (w/video)

A Navy veteran was run over while sitting on his motorcycle in traffic after a Memorial Day celebration Monday in an apparent road-rage incident, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The video shows Joseph Calderazzo, 46, and a passenger on his Harley Davidson Street Glider exchanging words with the driver of a four-door Pontiac sedan. The two vehicles were stopped on U.S. 41 and County Line Road in Pasco County just before 6 p.m., according to troopers.

He’s running for President of the US, and CA gets a significant amount of water from other states.

That’s a regional problem when climate change affects about… oh roughly 1/4 of the US population between all the states involved in the Compact. With climate change affecting the region and multi-year drought, this has national effects, including on food production given central CA’s importance as a food producer.

The problem is that it is a critical issue for the nation because of how much agriculture as well as population is dependent on nowhere near enough water. For him not to have studied it is beyond contempt.

I don’t find either acceptable in the least when the issue is one as significant as water in the western US. Bernie touts climate change and environmental issues as a core of his platform. How can he still be ignorant of this?

What a ridiculous characterization of this open letter.

Trump bashes the media as corrupt and dishonest to their faces, and they turn around and take it out on Hillary Clinton.

There are two things I cannot figure out about our media in this whole election cycle.

1. Why are they so scared to really take it to Trump and seem like they want to cover his every move to keep him pleased?

2. Why do they seem to dislike Hillary so much they do everything they can to keep that baggage packed and appear to not cover her as much as the Trump?

There has got to be some big underlying issue between the Clintons and the money behind big media?

Or, did they just choose early on that was how they were going to run with the narrative until some candidate stood out over that narrative? It’s almost like they think Clinton cannot be damaged any more and her history has already been worn in so go with another story to make something out of what early on looked like a walk.

I’d love to see Jerry Brown on the bottom half of Hillary Clinton’s ticket (nothing like having probably the most-successful Democrat in the country as your running mate): unfortunately, this is going to have to go into the NGH file, due to a couple of factors:

1. Brown doesn’t want it.
2. Brown is 78 years old, and, reportedly, looking forward to his retirement in two years.
3. Brown doesn’t want it.

A shame, IMO, but there you are….

I think it is worse that Sanders is admitting he doesn’t know something that is pretty big to a very large population, has a huge effect on our food supply and has been an issue for a long long time.

I think this shows he is not ready for prime time and is a great example of his one-issue type of thinking. Tunnel vision or blinders?

Is there really any excuse for this? Come on, the man is freaking US Senator. Don’t they get newspapers or the internet in Vermont? And he has talked about Global Warming…how did he miss this aspect of it?

LEÓN KRAUZE, UNIVISION: I am sure that you know about this topic: various leftist governments, especially the populists, are in serious trouble in Latin America. The socialist model in Venezuela has the country near collapse. Argentina, also Brazil, how do you explain that failure?

BERNIE SANDERS, DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE: You are asking me questions…

LEÓN KRAUZE, UNIVISION: I am sure you’re interested in that.

BERNIE SANDERS, DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE: I am very interested, but right now I’m running for President of the United States.

LEÓN KRAUZE, UNIVISION: So you don’t have an opinion about the crisis in Venezuela?

For a presidential candidate to not be prepared on something that actually fits his other messaging sure is some form of ignorance. Political ignorance. Maybe he doesn’t need to bullshit what can be done, but he sure as hell could get in some understanding to make folks feel he is aware. What he said is more or less a blow off of the problem…almost like it isn’t as important as some of his other policy.
