Trump Says He’ll Tell US Allies We Won’t Defend Them if They Don’t Pay Up

If they won’t pay, they should get nukes
Politics • Views: 38,285

Just the fact that Donald Trump thinks it’s appropriate to appear on the radio show of “Michael Savage” (real name: Michael Wiener), a guy infamous for absolutely insane over the top rants, conspiracy theories and overt racism and homophobia, well — that’s bad enough. But then you get to what Trump actually said in his interview with “Savage” yesterday, and that’s the truly disturbing part:On His First Day In Office, President Trump Will Tell Allies That He Won’t Defend Them If They Don’t Pay Up.

SoundCloud

Trump said that these allied countries will “have to pay” much more for protection, adding, “What, are we supposed to get into World War III over a country that doesn’t respect us enough to pay what they’re supposed to be paying?”

Trump also said that as president he will immediately act to undo President Obama’s executive actions on immigration reform and build the Keystone XL pipeline, with a hefty new tax on the corporations that benefit from it.

Hey, they’ve made peace with the tax on oil drilling in Alaska, they’ll find a way to make peace with this. Probably argue that it’s a tax on foreign companies, so it’s not really hurting American interests.

Seriously, Trump’s word salad on this should give the entire GOP a huge pause going into the convention and general election, but you know it ultimately won’t have any lasting effect, because they hate Hillary more than they fear a Trump presidency (or love their country).

Which is hilarious when one considers that, just a little over a year ago, they were ranting and raving that we’d “abandoned” Eastern Europe to an expansionist Russia and Western Europe was prepared to drop out of NATO because it could no longer count on us.

It may not seem like it, but, on the whole, the 60 year+ nuclear non-proliferation effort has been a striking success. There are dozens of countries that COULD build nuclear weapons, but only a handful have been added to the five that had these weapons in 1964. It is not a particularly advanced technology, though the effort and resources required are still enormous. Trump is ready to throw that away overnight. He has no clue how this works, how much has gone into it, or how terrible the consequences could be.

I think there’s a plausible mechanic where, if the polls aren’t especially close and it appears a foregone conclusion that Clinton will win, a great many educated Republican voters will find themselves downright relieved that they don’t need to feel the need to personally pull the lever for Trump.

If he’s losing on November 1, he may lose by a landslide on November 8.

Coolest justice ever.

From Slate

Scientists Name New Praying Mantis Species After Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Brannoch named the mantis after Ginsburg on account of the justice’s “relentless fight for gender equality”—an apt tribute, given the feminist-tinged method by which ginsburgae was discovered. The researcher also chose Ginsburg because of her love of jabots, the frilly lace collar the justice often wears on her robes. Brannoch sees a jabot-type quality in the mantis’ neck plate.

fentanyl is IIRC, what they gave me to calm me down before they could administer the epidural before I gave birth.

It was a nice drug.

addendum, they had already given me pitocin, to quicken the labor—so you can imagine, why I needed the fentanyl to calm me.

I was on Fentanyl for a while years ago, in patch form. I had to keep asking them to reduce the dosage and at the time I had a high tolerance for opioids.
I lost so much weight. Went down to 99 lbs from my usual 125 in fairly short order. That frightened me.

Heavy duty stuff.

I wish I could remember what my dad was on after he had a cardiac catheterization procedure for his heart. He described having an out-of-body experience that really freaked him out.

He ended up having to have a triple bypass and he ended up only taking a couple pills from the prescription (oxy or hydrocodone) they gave him because he didn’t want to have a similar experience again.

Blind Frog Belly White  Jun 2, 2016 • 12:14:57pm

Back to the original topic of the thread - I was under the impression that we didn’t make our allies pay so much for protection, because we wanted them to let us base our troops on their soil so they’d be closer to potential adversaries, and we could also store supplies there where they’d be easier to get to potential battlefields. AND because we prefer that they not build up large standing armies give their history of using them on each other.

Kinda like why we ally with Japan and South Korea, extending MAD protection to them, so they don’t build their own nukes, which we’d then have to worry about.

But hey, I’m just some guy. I’m not a noisy rich asshole.

True this: fentanyl is heavy-duty shit, no mistake: Mrs. Jay is, unfortunately, a chronic-pain patient: one of her doctors tried fentanyl patches for her some years ago: besides apparently scarring the skin off her lower back permanently (8+ years? She still has dermatological issues) - she summed up its effects as follows: she was still in pain, but just too crazed from the drug to think about it.

Is there a name for when the side effects are this much better than the supposed goals? Not like taking heroin for a cold, but … what would be a good analogy? I mean, we really should be closing a whole bunch of foreign military bases but that’s not the same as isolationism.
