Trump Tries to Deflect Racism Accusations With Fake Photo of Black Family

He just keeps doing this
Politics • Views: 53,053

Donald Trump just keeps retweeting insane people; white supremacists, racists, conspiracy nuts, you name it. It’s absolutely bizarre that even after all the criticism he’s gotten for this nasty habit, he just continues to do it.

The latest example: this morning he retweeted a photo from a complete raving nut sandwich named @Don_Vito_08, purporting to show an African American family that supports Trump:

Screenshot via Buzzfeed

The nut sandwich in question has now deleted the tweet after it was exposed as a fake — but Trump hasn’t.

But since the original tweet no longer exists, the falsely labeled photo doesn’t appear in Trump’s tweet any more:

Buzzfeed points out that the picture originally came from a “Midwest Black Family Reunion” in Ohio, and the family it shows is most decidedly not happy that Trump is using them to try to deflect charges of racism.

BuzzFeed News can reveal the parents in the photograph, pictured at right, are Eddie and Vanessa Perry — and they are not endorsing or publicly supporting any political candidate during the 2016 election.

Eddie Perry, who lives in Cincinnati, told BuzzFeed News his family has previously attended several of the Midwest Black Family Reunion Events and he remembers having his photograph taken last year. “It was no big deal,” he said.

On Saturday morning, however, a friend texted him a screenshot of Trump’s tweet. “When I saw it, I immediately knew it was political propaganda,” he said.

“Why use it without asking for someone’s permission?” he asked. “Why use our image without asking?”

The image originated at WCPO in Cincinnati, and the TV station (and photographer) were less than pleased:

Yesterday marked 75 days in a row of walking at least 5,000 steps a day.

I have to figure out how I’m making that number today, because it won’t happen if I am lazy and sit on my butt.

Rest is an important part of any fitness regimen. One day out of 75 or 76 hardly seems adequate.

Eh, 5k steps isn’t that bad over the course of a day. I can normally pick up 2-3k just around the house, so it’s only having to go a little above and beyond (walking around the block twice could work).

This is why my goal is set to feel achievable, instead of something like 10k which is the recommended amount. I can guilt myself into making 5k to keep the streak going.

Calling him Cassius Clay is shitty too. One reason why Ali respected Howard Cosell is that Howard called him by the name he wanted to go by. It to relate to another great hero is why Roberto Clemente liked Bob Prince. Bob and Howard treated Roberto and Muhammad like men in an era where few treated African-Americans even African-Americans of high esteem like those two like men.

I see a lot of conservatives say this and one of my friends was saying that was pretty much his ideology but he also was bellyaching about transpeople wanting to use the bathroom. I had to be blunt and ask him if he really thought the government should be in the place of enforcing who goes to the bathroom and how you’re supposed to tell someone’s birth gender by looking at them. I wasn’t a jerk about it but so much of conservative ideology is full of contradictory bs when it comes to the government. Don’t tell me you’re for limited government when you repeatedly push for the government to harass women choosing to get abortions or that YOUR religious beliefs think same sex marriage should be illegal so it should be illegal everywhere.

My town’s village attorney (who is also the county prosecutor) is a Republican. As it happens, every elected official on the county board of supervisors, the school districts, and in all the incorporated villages and cities in my county, except for me, is a Republican.

That said, my village attorney is not a supporter of Mr. Trump. He is unhappy with the way his party has turned in support of Mr. Trump.

I think our county prosecutor/village attorney is just fine; his GOP affiliation in no way reflects Mr. Trump’s xenophobia and bigotry; I voted for him in the last election. (There were no Democrats on the ballot for any position in the county except for me, so generally here the choice is between which GOP candidate you like. We are a one-party county.)

He has not publicly distanced himself from Mr. Trump the way my senator Ben Sasse has, though in fairness my county prosecutor is not in a high profile position like Mr. Sasse. (He even took my joke about running my official village E-mail through my private E-mail server in stride during a village board meeting, when I asked if he was going to have me investigated like Hillary Clinton: His response was as far as he can tell Mrs. Clinton has done nothing wrong. Since that was in a board meeting, a number of villagers heard that, and I hope it sticks in their minds: The prosecutor here thinks she has done nothing wrong, and their own village trustee is doing the same thing.)

What pisses me off regarding the mission is that I know for a fact that there were plenty of LDS men that served alongside my grandfather in Korea. You know if Mitt believed so strongly in the draft and the Vietnam War, he should have been to the front of the line to enlist but he hid and that’s because Mitt Romney unlike the late Muhammad Ali is a big wimp.

But the militia clause of the II Amendment is workable today. What the NRA never quotes is the militia clause of Article I Section 8 of the main body of the Constitution, which defines the government’s role in the militia.

To provide and maintain a Navy;
To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;
To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;
To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

The NRA doesn’t want its members to read that. The Constitution runs counter to their narrative. The militia is armed and organised by Congress, not gun shops.

re: #64 petesh

Ali did not FAIL to enlist, he REFUSED to enlist, publicly. For this he lost damn near everything, and he never backed down. Finally the Supreme Court ruled he had a right to conscientious objection, and let him resume his career, which he did despite the fact that he was probably already past his prime.

Rep Daniel is still using Ali’s slave name. It figures. He is very welcome to go and commit felonious sodomy on himself.

Not that I’m mad or anything.

You bring up a key point that RWNJs don’t / won’t mention. The Supreme court in an 8-0 decision (I believe that it was Marshall than reused himself) stated that his request for CO status had been improperly denied. (and also the fact that the chairman of the original board recommended for CO status).

Of course, Trump has bone spurs or something like that. But then again, when you have a very rich family, you can always find a doctor to diagnose what you need and a friend on the board you can lean on.

Damn. Just saw a local news report there is a big GOP fundraiser here in Columbus tonight trying to keep Rob Portman’s senate reelection campaign afloat. Looks like Ohio GOP is worried about the money to back his run.

Anyways…Hugh Hewitt is going to be there as the featured speaker.

UGGH!

We seem to let just anyone come to this city anymore.

And weather report wise…it is really strange. Right now the northwestern section of the city is getting hammered with a heavy heavy downpour storm. My central and the south and east areas are all almost sunny.

This also could have something to do with Hewitt. He may be at Muirfield Village Golf Club at the Memorial Golf Tournament starting that fund raising early. That’s be one place to do it. That is one area getting hammered.

And remember, Romney then said that his sons were serving the country by working on dad’s campaign. Ugh. Now I have a picture of Romney’s sons in my brain.

Congress can arm the militia, but the first Militia Act required those enrolled in its ranks to provide their own musket or rifle, which did had to meet government standards. That last was needed because a poorly made musket was as dangerous to the firer and those standing next to him as to the enemy. Militia, if trained, like most infantry of the time fought in ranks.

Those doing militia service did retain their rifles after serving, so perhaps we can at least agree that the 2nd Amendment protects some rifles and authorizes the CMP. It is, of course, to be noted that the CMP-sold rifles are far deadlier than anything that existed in the Founding Era.

My father’s family left Danzig Free State (Gdansk) and came to the USA as illegal immigrants (thanks for laws prohibiting Slavs from immigrating because they were supposedly intellectually inferior and referred to as niCLANGs by some), just before the Nazis rolled in and seized Danzig.

My father’s father enlisted in the US Army and perished fighting against the Nazi fascists that had destroyed his country (Poland). His wife was in the WAC working stateside.

According to Representative Steve King of Iowa, I should be deported as the grandchild of an illegal immigrant to Poland. (He has said grandchildren of illegal immigrants should be deported.) I am glad Steve King is not my representative (though I am not happy with Adrian Smith).

He said he heard about Ali’s Rope-a-Dope technique but thought he could pound him anyway. So he went into that fight full of confidence that an older Ali could never beat the young, heavy-punching Foreman.

He said he got Ali up against the ropes and found out what it was all about. Ali ducked and dived missing punch after punch while Foreman was wearing himself out trying to connect.

There’s a reason this liberal puts his Gold Star banner up in his window on every military observance and holiday. Amongst other things, since it faces the church in town, it reminds those here in town who lost his father in combat when I was a child.

That banner represents the reason we should never commit our Armed Forces to any combat unless it is a just cause.

Heard him speak on NPR just now. He was not just doing the usual “yes, he was a great athlete…” but was emphatically saying he was an exemplary human being. I understand the anger some black voices are expressing about the trope “he transcended race” due to Ali making America confront race, using his celebrity. But Foreman didn’t want him limited to the box of African-American issues advocate only. Not mutually contradictory: that’s what Pres. Obama’s statement said with some nuance.

Right. I totally understand what George is saying. Anyhow, I saw a cool photo today of Ali with Willie Mays and Barry Bonds. Neat photo.

I’m most of the way done with my civic duty for the CA primary.

It’s easier than ever to vote by mail in CA, since postage is now paid, and the envelope no longer has to be received by election day (a timely postmark will suffice).

I’m sure this improved ease of access gives CA Republicans the vapors, but to hell with them.

Interestingly, we have the same here in uber-red Nebraska.

The only problem Republicans seem to have with ease-of-access to voting is in states where the outcome might be contested. In this very red state, voting is by mail in all the rural areas, optional in the cities, and is just as easy as Oregon.

It’s almost as if they don’t really believe their rhetoric about in-person voter fraud (since voting-by-mail would make that very easy if someone simply went around town and swiped ballots from the mailboxes).

The second amendment comes later, and therefore is read to supercede any prior parts of the constitution into which it comes into conflict.

In any case, the real issue with no-fly-list -> guns isn’t the second amendment, it’s the fifth, sixth, and 14th. The ACLU has litigated against the no fly list for this reason, and the logic applies to other uses to which it is put.

I am not a constitutional scholar, but as far as I can tell, the II Amendment does not supersede Article I of the Constitution. The II Amendment first clause defines a militia as necessary for a free State. Article I defines the scope and training of the militia.

On the other hand, I’ve got a serious jones on to make some bubbles and practice a few skills. Also, somebody brought in a reg that he swears breaths badly at 50 feet, but is testing out perfect on the bench. Like, I don’t recall babysitting while on scopolamine. No…wait…I would by definition *not* remember babysitting on scopolamine. So back to square 1.

What I remember about Pokemon when it first became a big deal was colleagues of mine at TRW that were parents being utterly mystified by this new drain on their wallets. I’ve been into manga and anime forever, so I know what it was (but not the details, since I’ve never played the games).

We had a good time reading those.

Picking through my own Primary ballot in Nebraska, I had to sort through all the Democrats running for my state district that were honing in on the derp that Planned Parenthood sells baby parts or life begins at conception or other nonsense.

Turns out of the many candidates running for my district in the Unicameral, only one actually holds to the idea that a woman’s body is her own and an egg is not a chicken (or a human). That was the person I voted for.

The Internet is a big help in sorting out primary candidates. Too bad the Internet is pretty much limited in my town to the library and my house. On the other hand, the only other Democrat here is my wife.

re: #228 Anymouse

I am not a constitutional scholar, but as far as I can tell, the II Amendment does not supersede Article I of the Constitution. The II Amendment first clause defines a militia as necessary for a free State. Article I defines the scope and training of the militia.

I do have a constitutional practice (and one publication, but that hardly makes me a scholar), but the second amendment isn’t really my area of focus. Nevertheless, a fundamental principle is that where two elements of the constitution are in conflict, amendments supersede anything that comes prior.

In any case, you’re misreading it here, and treating “militia” as referring to the same entity in each. Article I of the constitution refers to the ability of the federal government to raise armies. The amendments, however, were seen as restrictions on the federal government by giving certain rights to non federal entities (States and people) with which the federal gov’t could not interfere. Ignoring recent developments that incorporated a second amendment right against state governments, it was historically seen, at the very least, as restricting the capacity to interfere with firearms to state governments to empower the development of state (and possibly regional) militias.

Ah yes, another conservative liar. Where’s the footage of liberals dancing? The same reel as Trump’s dancing Muslims.

As I remember it, this is the kind of crap that wasted air for weeks.

“You know, I just landed and I’m hearing it’s a big topic,” Donald Trump said on Tuesday, when Michael Savage, a conservative radio host, asked him about theories that Justice Antonin Scalia had been murdered. Trump continued, “And it’s a horrible topic. But they say they found a pillow on his face, which is a pretty unusual place to find a pillow. I can’t tell you what—I can’t give you an answer. You know, usually I like to give you answers. But I literally just heard it a little while ago. It’s just starting to come out now, as you know, Michael.” Savage, who had introduced Trump by playing “Hail to the Chief” and calling him the next President, replied that he, for one, had been talking about it for a full hour and a half. Savage had already called for “a Warren Commission” like the one that investigated the J.F.K. assassination. There are many theories: Scalia was killed by Barack Obama, or by Rod Blagojevich, or by Hillary Clinton; or, veering to the right corner, by the Bush family, or by Ted Cruz, or by Dick Cheney. Suggested weapons, in addition to the pillow, include carbon monoxide and poison. Where did all this come from?

It’s Okay If You’re A Republican.

There are people on Grover’s “side” who do exactly that. Very loudly. Claim he’s a secret Muslim Brotherhood operative because of his wife.

It’s come up at CPAC events more than once. It’s been awhile since it’s been mentioned here, but it is most definitely a thing that happened.

I could not care less about Mr. Norquist’s wife’s religious beliefs. Those are between Mr. and Mrs. Norquist.

I wonder if Mr. Norquist is a Trump supporter, with Mr. Trump’s idea that Muslims should be banned from entering the USA (or Ted Cruz’s idea they should be monitored)? How does Mr. Norquist square the idea the party he supports wants to openly discriminate against his wife, and how does Mrs. Norquist feel about that?

I only know Haley from afar but my favorite was when she bragged about how she took on the unions. Taking on unions in a state historically weak for unions in a historically era weak for unions, courage!

Nikki is so full of crap. Wonkette really nailed her this week:

good job sort of not really
Gov. Nikki Haley Wishes Donald Trump Wouldn’t Act So Ugly To The Minorities, Bless His Heart

Like, remember how, before she came up with the brilliant idea that maybe it was time for the Confederate slavery flag to go, she actually defended that filthy piece of cloth when she was running for re-election in 2014? And really, she wasn’t all that excited about getting rid of the flag, but, well, holy shit, nine black churchgoers were gunned down in Charleston by a white supremacist draped in that flag, so she had to do something…

She said she doesn’t think people who support Trump are racist or haters.

“That’s a different kind of anger. They’re upset with Washington, D.C. They’re upset nothing’s got done,” she said.

The fuck it’s a “different kind of anger,” and the FUCK they’re not racist.

The flag “hijacked by that murderer” had to go, she said, recognizing that some pro-flag people are still upset by her public prompting.

Yep, the Charleston murderer, Dylann Roof, “hijacked” that flag all by his white self, and before that, nobody never thought of using it for racist purposes, heck no, why would you suggest such a thing? Pity those poor confederate sweethearts what had their beautiful flag stolen from them and used for nefarious purposes.

TYT is a YouTube channel, and has been around for many years. Amongst other things, TYT was the first YouTube channel to break a billion views. TYT generally supports progressive views, but sometimes goes off the rails on some topics.

A frequent criticism against The Young Turks YouTube Channel is the co-host Anna Kasparian, who is of Armenian descent. TYT takes its name from the generic definition of a young Turk (a political revolutionary). Conservatives who comment on their channel take the historical Young Turks and accuse Ms. Kasparian of whitewashing the Armenian Genocide.

Ms. Kasparian does not view it that way, but her explanations do not matter to conservatives (she is a woman and therefore her opinions as an Armenian do not outrank conservative opinions).

That is different. Both of them are white.

It really is interesting how military service has ceased to be considered a prerequisite for being President. After Truman, who served in W.W.I, every president from Eisenhower through Ford served in a combat zone in WWII, even if only briefly (LBJ). Carter missed WWII because he was still at the Naval Academy when it ended. But once we got to the Vietnam War generation, combat service hasn’t mattered. 2016 will be the second presidential election in a row in which neither nominee served in the military at all, and at this point it looks unlikely that any Vietnam combat veteran will ever be elected President.

Norquist falls on the “David Brooks axis” of dudes who’ve convinced themselves that their economic thing—lower taxes for some, higher taxes for peasants— is way more important than all that paranoia, doomsday religion, and general “we have long lists of who gets the boot” vibe.

Then they hire Ron Fournier to wear motley and tell them this is clever. In rhyme.

Three Republican senators visited South Korea this week in a bid to reassure Seoul that should presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump move into the White House, U.S. policy toward the country will not change.

Freshman Senators Joni Ernst of Iowa, Cory Gardner of Colorado, and Dan Sullivan of Alaska-who are not up for re-election in November 2016-are in Asia on a four-nation tour.

Trump’s campaign rhetoric has drawn attention in Asia, particularly in South Korea where 28,500 U.S. troops are stationed. These, along with the more than 50,000 stationed in Japan, are seen as a vital part of maintaining northeast Asia’s security status quo. But Trump has consistently accused Seoul of free-riding on American military might. In 2013, Trump asked in a YouTube video “…how long will we go on defending South Korea from North Korea without payment?”

Regarding Ali. I heard George Foreman on ESPN radio earlier today. He had some great stories and it showed how much he admired him even after suffering a defeat to him in the Rumble in the Jungle.

His words: “Ali was on the rope…I was the dope!”

“Going up on the ropes is a beautiful thing.”

I try bringing up that his allies were German industrialists, militant right wing nationalists and that his main enemies were after the Jews- Communists, Social Democrats, and Trade Union members and they just ignore it. I wlil grant that Nazism differs from traditional right wingi politics in the European sense that it’s not tied to the monarchy or a church but there’s no doubt at all that Nazism was a rightist ideology.

Alt-right trend younger and generally don’t try to hide their racism (at least online). Overlap heavily with 4chan culture, embrace anime avatars and believe that messaging via memes is effective. The alt-right generally doesn’t even give lip service to traditional conservative small government ideals, flat tax, social security reform or economic freedom. Their entire raison d’etre is racial and cultural revanchism. They’re primarily whites expressing anger over the loss of a perceived ethnic birthright.

The alt right is loosely defined as a coalition of white supremacists, “anti-PC” gamersgater types, and anti-establishment nationalists. They’re not all explicitly racist, but unlike the lunatic right, they’re not at all shy about being allied with them.

Alt-right trend younger and generally don’t try to hide their racism (at least online). Overlap heavily with 4chan culture, embrace anime avatars and believe that messaging via memes is effective. The alt-right doesn’t generally doesn’t even give lip service to traditional conservative small government ideals, flat tax, social security reform or economic freedom. Their entire raison d’etre is racial and cultural revanchism. They’re primarily whites expressing anger over the loss of a perceived ethnic birthright.

Good point about the age. Think Chucky and Milo for reference there. You’re right Frank. The alt-right doesn’t try to disguise what they really are and that’s a bunch of racist dicks.

I would think and I’m interested for other Lizards thoughts on this matter but I’d say that Ron Paul is a popular figure among the alt-right crowd.

It is getting blurred and that’s what is so frustrating. What’s even more frustrating though is guys like Ryan acting like they’re shocked that Trump does things like bitch about the ethnic background of the judge in his fraud case. Honestly, I sort of got at it last night and this morning but the mainstream conservatives need to be held accountable for Trump. As a South Carolinian, no doubt you are familiar with Atwater and how two Republican presidents used him in their ascendation to the presidency.

Hey, the “widder” Atwater ran for state school superintendent just last year, and said ignorant shit like this (she lost in a Republican runoff, but still…)

You jest but I can’t tell you the number of right wingers that have told me that Hitler was a leftist because of that.

I snarked about it a few posts back, but Gregor and Otto Strasser were two Nazi alten Kämpfer who took the “Socialist” part of National Socialist too seriously. It was fatal for them….

HappyWarrior  Jun 4, 2016 • 6:14:52pm

The alt-right since Frank I agree correctly defined them as younger I think you could argue see themselves as rebelling against what they see and hate about the vast majority in their generation (my generation) that they perceive as too liberal and PC.

I’ve been in heavy music listening mode all day…playing YouTubes through a tablet connected to my basement studio monitors.

Anyway, I came across this and thought maybe the Lizards would enjoy…I can’t recall seeing it around here…and I never saw it before.

Jeff Beck, Lizzie Ball (violin) & Tal Wilkenfeld (bass) at Madison Square Garden 2013.

Women of Ireland

Good stuff!

Video

100% approval on my part. Jeff Beck always gets my updings, Tal Wilkenfeld is just awesome. I remember some video of her and Jeff at a festival in Spain(?) and she was matching him lick for lick.

No doubt he is. Alt-right folks can sometimes project as libertarians due to the fact that they generally dislike government entirely. Rather ironic for people who worship one of the most absolute dictators of all time, but there you go.

HappyWarrior  Jun 4, 2016 • 6:17:50pm

Honestly as much as I do appreciate the general liberal bent of my generation, I’m not sold on younger conservatives at all becoming a more reasonable voice than their older parents and grandparents. I’ve seen plenty of conservatives my age who are carbon copies of the older ones and in some ways more fucked up.

Right, a lot of them call themselves libertarians or cling to libertarian ideas. Von Mises I imagine is another popular figure among them. These aren’t your father’s College Republoicans wearing ties and being Ned Flanders like. They’re Chucky Johnson and Milo hurling racist and sexist insults at people who get raped or want to do something about racism.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I still don’t see that much difference (other than the anime avatars) between them and the run-of-the-mill old racists in this state. Remember, this state was one of the first to go all in for Trump (my county was his biggest win with 49%, and that was back when there were a LOT of candidates.)

They use libertarian ideals as a mechanism to espouse white supremacy. See, if we were all on a level playing field, then obviously them uppity blacks and wimminz and the dirty Joos would get put back in their proper places by the power of the white man.

It’s a bit more awful than that. They also take issue with the government actively preventing them from discriminating. (Note that there is a legitimate, if rejected by SCOTUS, line of argument on this). Ron Paul is a good example of this - he’s not really liberterian per se, he just wants most of those powers to revert from the federal government so the states can get back to what they like best.

They don’t care about facts, its just a talking point for them, like that the Democrats are the real racists because they supported slavery and opposed civil rights. Debate is futile.
