Breaking: Associated Press Calls Democratic Race for Hillary Clinton

The race is over
Politics • Views: 44,731

The Associated Press reports tonight that Hillary Clinton has achieved the number of delegates she needs to be the Democratic Party’s nominee for president.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Clinton has commitments from the number of delegates needed to become the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee for president, and will be first woman to top the ticket of a major U.S. political party. An Associated Press count of pledged delegates won in primaries and caucuses and a survey of party insiders known as superdelegates shows Clinton with the overall support of the required 2,383 delegates. Now the presumptive nominee, she will formally accept her party’s nomination in July at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

It’s time for Bernie Sanders to concede. Will he?

It’s time for Bernie Sanders to concede. Will he?

If he’s taking Jeff Weaver’s and Tad Devine’s advice seriously, I’d say no.

The question now is not will he concede, but in what manner it will happen. Will it be in the spirit of a sportsman, congratulating Clinton and endorsing her in order to keep with his promise to do everything to keep Trump from being president?

Will it be grudging, with his trying to sooth his ego by saying he did better than he’d expected, but he’d now come in for the big win?

Or will it be that of a sore loser, bellowing that he didn’t lose, the nomination was “stolen” from him and leaving the field under a cloud?

That’s what remains to be seen.

I think that means some Sanders Super Delegates may be making the decision Sanders was hoping for…Super Delegates making a move to another candidate at a late date. They just are not moving Bernie’s way.

I think it honestly didn’t matter if it was announced today, tomorrow, or a week ago. There was going to be those who insisted the voter outcome was depressed, that millions who would have voted didn’t because of some factor, and the final result doesn’t reflect the genuine will of the people.

I tend to agree. I understand wanting it made official tomorrow, but the AP would also probably come under fire for NOT releasing the news once the numbers came through to them. Mainstream news organizations won’t sit on a news story unless there’s a really good reason to do so.

Indeed, someone was going to make it known before the polls closed tomorrow. AP just did what any major news organization does: It broke the scoop before anybody else could. News orgs that choose to sit on stories until they feel the timing is right not only lose readers/viewers, they also run the risk of being accused of having influenced the outcome.

Because 2/3 of Republicans believe the Dow is lower than it was when Obama took office, and ~60% believe that unemployment is higher.

According to the NBC web site, there is a petition to recall the judge who sentenced Turner to spend only six months behind bars. so far, Judge Aaron Persky has not responded to media requests.

“A move is underway to oust the California judge who sparked outrage after he sentenced a former Stanford University swimmer to just six months in jail for raping an unconscious woman behind a dumpster outside a campus frat party. “…”In their recall petition, change.org noted that “Judge Persky failed to see that the fact that Brock Turner is a white male star athlete at a prestigious university does not entitle him to leniency. He also failed to send the message that sexual assault is against the law regardless of social class, race, gender or other factors.”“

AP is simply doing the math. Doesn’t matter though, even though the outcome is all but assured. I was hoping tomorrow would be the crushing that Sanders has deserved for months now. His nonsensical ravings about conspiracies, superdelegates, and just plain math show someone who isn’t interested in process and is so self-centered that he’d be willing to screw everyone and the party to do it.

There is absolutely no scenario in which Bernie wins. None.

Not even if Bernie wins CA does he or can he claim the nomination.

Why? Because he’s lost the last two by huge margins (USVI, PR), and even a close CA win means Hillary gets to 2383 before he does. Hillary’s got him on pledged delegates, and by a huge margin at that.

NJ will definitely push her over the top. CA will be the cherry on top.

She’s leading him by 291. Without supers. That’s nearly double the amount that Hillary lost to Obama in 2008 by - and that counted the superdelegates in 2008.

Put another way, 2008 things were so close that even with the supers, the difference was 148 at the end.

Today? Hillary is up 291 without the supers. With the supers? She’s up 814.

That’s not even close. It hasn’t been close since Super Tuesday (yeah, I’m a broken record, but that’s how it’s been). He’s done nothing to close the gap. He’s done everything to piss off a lot of people in the DNC.

Trump is the problem in November, and here Bernie’s still playing games even though he was thoroughly crushed.

After Bernie bitching for weeks that supers aren’t counted, his only argument is that he’s going to urge them to run against what amounts to a landslide popular vote win for Hillary. He’s left arguing anti-democratic pablum that the Shaun Kings spew forth - complete with his surrogates and supporters wishing for Hillary indictments and other right wing drivel.

It ends tomorrow alright. And I hope that the DNC and HRC both give Bernie the deference he deserves.

Even if you buy Bernie’s argument that the SDs shouldn’t count unless they’re backing him (which I don’t), she still has the lead by a large margin and will maintain it unless he somehow manages to overcome massive deficits tomorrow to win by 80% or better. She will go to the convention with the majority of pledged delegates and votes, but he wants to whine that she didn’t win because the SDs might suffer mass insanity and give him the nomination.

re: #89 Nyet

Derpnado is coming.

I read that as Derperado, for some reason… (Apologies to the Eagles)

Derrrrrperado,
Why don’t you come to your senses.
Time to start mendin’ fences
That you tore down…
Oh, you’re actin’ dumb now
I know you’ve got your reasons.
A campaign that once pleased you
Has hurt you somehow.

You didn’t beat the Queen of Diamonds, boy,
She simply was more able
And a little birdie led you the wrong way.
Now it seems you laid a lot of cash
Upon the campaign table,
But the things you wanted money couldn’t get…

Derrrrrperado.
Your guy ain’t getting no younger.
His hatred and blunders
Have now sealed his fate.
And bustin’, oh bustin’,
Was just dumb people talkin’.
You can get out of your prison, it isn’t too late.

Don’t your feet get hot in the summer time,
When the sun’s beatin’ down all the time.
You can’t tell when it’s night or when it’s day.
You’ve lost the highs and got the lows,
It’s funny how the campaign goes…away…

Derrrrperado,
Why don’t you come to your senses?
Time to start mendin’ fences, it’s not yet too late,
Hillary’s winnin’, and she welcomed you in an’
You better let somebody win who (let somebody win who)
You better let somebody win who cares a bit ‘bout your fate.

On a more serious note, I think what pisses them off more than anything else is that the Clintons are still together, and former President Clinton is still one of the most successful presidents in modern history. If they could have brought President Clinton low after the Lewinsky matter, they would have been happy as clams. I remember realizing at the time how shocked they were that he was reelected. They wasted millions of tax dollars trying to make it so, and that sh*t backfired on them BIG TIME.

How total? Trump is an ignoramus (hard to argue with) and his nomination will result in the election of the Hildabeast. By 2024, the US will inevitably become a North Korean style cult state with Chelsea set to succeed her mother as Supreme Leader.
All men will be required to get gay-married or sent to FEMA camp where they will be neutered and/or worked to death, except for a select few unusually manly Christian men who will be forced at gunpoint to make sperm donations to preserve the species until government backed lesbian science can devise a way to get by without them.

I’ve never seen that word except in reference to Hillary Clinton. Still have absolutely no clue what it means.

I remember hearing it used in a few childhood cartoons and shows, but never caught the definition either. According to our best friend Google (sarcasm), it is unusually thick ankles.

You can’t get a contested convention when one candidate is 800+ delegates ahead, and has clearly crossed the 2,383 threshold for being the nominee. She’s going to end up around 2,650, if not more. This isn’t a squeaker. And the supers will not be swayed.

The other thing is HRC killed Bernie among registered Democrats.

It’s going to be up to his attorneys to present to the judge whether or not that the judge to be recused-and odds are none of his attorneys are willing to file that motion, seeing what has happend in the past-as a matter of fact, some of these attorneys may relish the ability to tell The Donald face to face to go fuck himself if he seriously thinks he’s going to get away with that kind of a stunt.

Graham’s butt has many cuts and scrapes on it from straddling that d*mn fence. At first, he was against Trump. Then, he was for Trump. Now, he’s talking about rescinding Trump’s endorsements. Will he begin the process? If he does, it will be for public purposes of saving face only, and when he votes in November, he’ll vote for Trump. He knows it, and I know it. The man is a joke because the only thing that is of importance to him is keeping his seat in the Senate. Anything else he says is to provide public cover for the GOP/TP and make it appear that it’s not halfway on its journey to the bottom of the Marianas Trench.

To be fair, Reagan’s other son has been voting Democratic for years and bucking his father’s ideology. Props to Michael, I mean that but the fact that he’s Reagan’s son really means little honestly here. It honestly means more to me that both Bushes are refusing to support him.

Trying to cover all bases:

The Number of the Beast (Greek: Ἀριθμὸς τοῦ θηρίου, Arithmos tou Thēriou) is a term in the Book of Revelation, of the New Testament, that is associated with the Beast of Revelation in chapter 13.[1] In most manuscripts of the New Testament and in English translations of the Bible, the number of the beast is 666. In critical editions of the Greek text, such as the Novum Testamentum Graece, it is noted that 616 is a variant.[2]

Dick Morris Is in Talks to Join the Trump Campaign

Before Donald Trump’s campaign was derailed by his racist attacks on a federal judge, the GOP nominee was surprisingly disciplined in his attacks on Hillary Clinton. His chief strategy: recycling the scandals of the 1990s. Now, even as Trump is doubling down on his rants about the judge, it appears he’s not entirely given up on his original plan. According to two sources with direct knowledge of the talks, the Trump campaign is in discussions with Dick Morris, the former Clinton adviser-turned Clinton nemesis, about joining the campaign as a strategist. Morris would “join the Hillary unit,” one source explained. “It’s on the table,” a senior Trump adviser added. “Some of the most important info about the Clintons is 20 years old.”

Whether a deal is imminent isn’t clear. Morris did not respond to requests for comment. Trump spokesperson Hope Hicks did not respond to a request either.

LOLWUT? The Number of the Beast is 6616? The fundies have gotten it wrong all these years, but Matt Drudge is on the case.

I swear, I took a job to a printer this weekend and it was going to be ready today, but as the clerk was writing 6/6/16, she freaked out about the “implication” and changed it to tomorrow’s date instead.

I don’t know who HA Goodman is, but if they didn’t indict the forty-seven Republican traitors who wrote a letter to Iran’s president trying to undermine President Obama (and had to be schooled on the US Constitution by the Iranian president), I seriously doubt Hillary Clinton will be indicted for something that was not illegal.

I guess HA Goodman isn’t important enough to be anybody, since he isn’t on my radar (snark).

The funny thing is the Espionage Act is how Bernie’s hero Eugene Debs was imprisoned. Man H.A is just dreaming for a Clinton indictment.

Debs was unjustly detained.

Yeah he was. I hate Glenn Beck being right but there’s a lot of horrible thigns about the Wilson administration.

They told me I had one. I refused to believe it because no way in hell are you telling someone who loves Reese Peanut Butter Cups to give them up.

re: #430 danarchy

So what happened today that all of a sudden made them say she clinched? There were no primaries today right? What changed between yesterday and today?

Some superdelegates who were previously quiet announced that they were supporting Clinton, which pushes her barely over the edge. Tomorrow will solidify it.

Thanks for finding that for today. I have watched it before but it still gave me a therapeutic tear duct rinse.
I am also reminded of America at that time. The shock. The patriotism. We were all as close to each other as we have ever been in my life time.
