As I write this, the first results are coming in from New Jersey and Hillary Clinton already has a major lead over Bernie Sanders. Of course it’s very early and this could still change, but New Jersey is a pretty solid Clinton-supporting state historically.

As you can see from the photo above, I voted today in California — and it was for Hillary Clinton because although I started with pretty positive feelings about Bernie Sanders, he has really alienated me over the course of this campaign for too many reasons to list.

Tonight a major party will “officially” (but unofficially) nominate a woman for president. With all the Trump craziness, and the absolute implosion of the Republican Party it’s easy to lose sight of this. But it truly is an historic night

Come Friday, if Bernie hasn’t dropped out, the party should begin making very loud noises about primarying his ass come 2018. If he wants to run as a Democrat, he’s gonna have to work for it. If he doesn’t, then he needs to take his sorry ass back to Burlington.

I wouldn’t be waiting for 2018 for punishments to have effect. The words “committee assignments” and “place in the Democratic caucus” should be shifting the winds.

So Trump speech at 9:00 Eastern. I guess he has the duct tape and bondo ready to patch that big ol’ hole he made in the GOP with the Mexican judge remarks.

This will be interesting. Will the big orange yam fall on his sword or will he come up with some lame response as to why it is Hillary’s and the media’s fault?

19
lawhawk  Jun 7, 2016 • 5:55:22pm

Hillary has made history once again. She’s going to be the Democratic party nominee. She’s broken barriers and has a multicultural coalition behind her and that scares the hell out of the GOP, which is relying on a racist/bigoted asshat as their standard bearer.

The GOP has tried to take her down for 20 years and hasn’t so much laid a finger on her. All of the so-called scandals have been so much hot air. She’s been in the national spotlight since 1992 and has been First Lady, US Senator, Secretary of State, and now just one national election away from being President.

Congrats to her on this historic event.

And it’s now time to start making the dream of being president reality.

The pivot to the general election starts with money.

This is yet another reason that the GOP is in trouble. There’s no money there to get things going.

All the while, Trump is busy attacking fellow GOPers, can’t keep his campaign straight on tactics, and other GOPers are holding their noses while supporting their guy against Hillary.

Hillary has to run as though Trump is running the most effective campaign of all time. Take nothing for granted and to take advantage of every GOP unforced error. There’s so much to work with - and to remind Americans every day that the GOP truly has no interest in helping all Americans achieve the greatness they deserve. The GOP’s sole interest is to shift tax burdens from the rich to everyone else while shifting societal burdens on to those least able to afford them.

It means making a strong case for raising the minimum wage since it actually reduces reliance on government assistance and reduces corporate welfare (where companies like Walmart pay crap wages that means employees need food stamps or other assistance to get by).

They don’t need to primary him - he’s not a democrat.

The party can just run a serious Democratic candidate for his seat - I need to go to sleep, but there is a semi-serious candidate who is lining up a run if Sanders doesn’t stop being an asshat.

I always like this:

As the campaign went on and voting started, I was seeing more and more posts about the election being “stolen” from Bernie supporters because the results didn’t exactly match the polls, revealing a lack of understanding of what margin of error is, and what it is not. I tried explaining. Some of them pushed back, claiming to understand more about statistics than I do. (Pretty sure all of my friends on Facebook know that I have a Ph.D. in Statistics.) Even though they maybe took at most one stats class in their life. And oh, the condescension in their attitude as they said that. Nice job, guys.

One poll is still a single data point. Even if the poll states its results with a 99.9% confidence interval, it’s still possible that the true value lies outside that interval. Also, things change on a daily basis in American politics, to the point where any single individual poll result is effectively out-of-date as soon as it’s published. I think the best use for American political polls is to indicate trends, because the whole environment is just too volatile to do anything else predictive with the data.

Oh and he claimed he was bigly going to be the man. And the ‘heads say that is disciplined.

David Wohl, a California attorney who was also an occasional contributor to Fox News, said he started liking Trump’s platform when the mogul first launched his campaign and was especially active in supporting Trump on Twitter.

That led to even more bookings in the past few months, especially with Megyn Kelly, the Fox anchor who’s a frequent target of Trump’s online vitriol. Earlier this month on Kelly’s show, Wohl defended Trump’s call to punch protesters.

“That may be a little bit harsh for some, but in essence, Megyn, he’s saying that ‘You know what? Protect me, we’re all one, we’re unified, people together and if someone’s going to hit any of us or assault me, then take him out,’” Wohl said to a skeptical Kelly. “It’s a little bit harsh but you know what? People appreciate it, and people love him for it. That’s the reality.”

I did, too, RH. Curt Shilling just said the other day that “the left wants a civil war it can’t win.” It is they who are wishing things in the U.S. would go all to hell and that the result would give them everlasting power over the nation and it’s citizens for the foreseeable and unforeseeable future. When they claim that Group A “wants” this or that, they’re really talking about themselves. I’ve heard them claim many, many times that to be black in America means one wants to “take” something from them. Hello! I have news for them—I don’t want to take sh*t from them because I have my own sh*t. In fact, I’m in the process of completing the remodel on my house, and I’m trying to figure out how to further reduce the amount of items I have in it. For the past few years, I’ve been donating everything from clothing to furniture to the Goodwill, and it looks like I’ll end up doing the same thing this year.

I’m thinking what we’re seeing in South Dakota (don’t know about Montana) is that the Native American vote is favoring Clinton. SD has one of the bigger Native American populations in the country so my guess is they prefer Clinton to Sanders and are going with her accordingly.

Yeah, we all remember how Trump’s foreign policy speech was gonna blow us away. The one where he said in the same breath that he was gonna be strong for our allies but they were going to have to start paying us to protect them.

And an even lower bar if the nominee doesn’t even address his big screw-up at all. Yet, the party types seem to think he hit a grand slam homer.

We should all be so lucky to make a big screw-up and the only punishment is to go out and act like it never happened and yammer on about how we are so great.

Well Nate’s question about the Hispanic vote I think has been answered. Even if the AP didn’t announce the 40 SDs that announced they were going to Clinton. I’m honestly while I’m happy Clinton clinched a little sad since I’m seeing people, people I genuinely respect and consider my friends freaking out about Clinton winning. I’ll get through it. I have friends whose views are totally different than mine but it’s still disappointing to see someone act like this.

The other note about this recovery is while it may be slow, it’s steady and its enduring. Why? Because it’s not built on massive military spending that will only last as long as the next war. And it’s not built on tax cuts that further shift the country’s wealth upward.

Real, real early estimate is that Hillary’s going to get about 80 pledged delegates (out of 126) from New Jersey, about 19 (out of 34) from New Mexico, about 10 (out of 20) from South Dakota, and about 6 (out of 18) from North Dakota. That leaves her with 115 of the night and 1,926 total so far, and needing 100 from the 496 supplied by Montana and California.

Looks doable.

Clinton Can Afford To Lose California By 50 points
If current results hold in New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota and South Dakota, Clinton will add 116 pledged delegates from those states (Sanders would get 87), leaving her 99 pledged delegates shy of 2,026, the number required to clinch a pledged delegate majority.

That means Clinton only needs 21 percent of the pledged delegates available in California to hit 2,026. She could lose the state to Sanders by more than 50 percentage points and still come out ahead.

Here’s the thing guys. I want to be nice and diplomatic as possible to the people I know who support Bernie even those who are being abject jerks about the results. I’m not by nature a person who goes looking for a fight politically but I just feel some anger because they want to cry fraud when no fraud has happened. By all metrics, Bernie lost the race. You can be disappointed at that. You can even be furious about that but you cannot change the facts. You cannot tell me that the Superdelegates are awful and then tell me that Bernie is going to get the SDs to flip over to him. Bernie’s mistake was that he had no idea of how to handle the Democratic Party’s diverse coalition. Look at the results. Bernie did his best in states that were lily white and were caucuses. If the Dems had GOP rules i.e. no superdelegates Clinton would have already clinched before yesterday.

re: #315 Franklin

What is the conservative estimate of the number of pledged delegates that Sec. Clinton could have at the end of the night*? The claim that the supers don’t vote until July is so weird it would be great to know how many supers she will actually need to get to 2383.

Is it possible she will only need 150 - 200 of the 719?

* The results of DC next week will change this a little.

With the figures I had above, assume a 60-40 loss in Montana (to be on the safe side) and a one-vote loss in California, she’d get another 245 pledged delegates for the night, bringing her total for the evening to about 364 and her total for the campaign to about 2,175. (Also, DC votes next Tuesday; Hillary should get most of those 20 delegates.)

So she’ll only need about 200 superdelegates. Right now, she has almost triple that number.

re: #317 Nyet

Realistically, he lost after the Super Tuesday…

I’ve been of the opinion that he’s been playing catch up ever since South Carolina. It was a close game after New Hampshire but after SC, it was catch up for him.

Meanwhile in Ohio:

WEST CHESTER, Ohio (WKRC) - Voters in Ohio’s 8th district, which includes Butler County, cast ballots in a special election Tuesday.

Republican Warren Davidson ran against Democrat Corey Foister for a chance to fill John Boehner’s unexpired term.

Davidson is the declared winner of that race.

Voter turnout was light.

I don’t care where the judge comes from? Obviously you do dickface Donald because you brought up his ethnic background. Ann Coulter certainly cares what his background is. Face it Donald, you’re a fuckwad and the American people are never going to hire you.

Rage Furby has published the naturalization record of Judge Curiel’s mom, from 1969. So, now he’s *sure* the judge is an “anchor baby.”

Some facts: Mrs Curiel was born in 1916. The judge was born 1953 — in Indiana. So, he’s obviously an American citizen, and his mom may have been a permanent resident. And none of this is relevant to the Trump U cases. It’s just Chuckie seizing on the latest news cycle to milk it till its dry.

I think the only reason some GOP/TPers are a angry at Trump is because he says out loud and in a straightforward manner the things they’ve been saying using dog whistles. Their anger comes from this, I believe, and from their fear that he will cause some of them to lose their seats in Congress.

Funny thing about Hugh…and also Mike Murphy out in Cali with Tweety. They both seem resigned to reality that there is no hope with Trump recovering from his gaffes and they expect more. Murphy more or less predicted Hillary driving Trump into increasingly downward spirals in the polls as he gets more and more desperate.

Stuffs be all over the place!

Davidson won with 21,537 votes (to Democrat Corey Foister’s 5,904). Six percent turnout. Pathetic all around.

I hope he can and am sure he can. So can his more vocal surrogates who aren’t all Bernie or Bust. We may see a repeat of what happened with PUMA’s. That being said, Clinton has some work to do to win over the younger crowd.

Taking it to Trump should help. Us young ‘uns hate the fascistic cheeto.

He’s also implying that it’s only inner city blacks that have been and continue to be mistreated.

Something he shares with Sanders (unfortunately).
