Gawker Files for Bankruptcy, Also Files Lawsuit Against Infamous Troll Chuck C. Johnson

The tables are turned on the Rage Furby
Weird • Views: 56,236

You may have heard that Gawker filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection today, but as part of their action they’ve also filed an “adversary” lawsuit naming Hulk Hogan, journalist Ashley Terrill, and our old pal, infamous cyberstalker and all around nasty douchebag Chuck C. Johnson.

After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and priming the way for its planned sale to Ziff Davis, Gawker Media has now sued Hulk Hogan, journalist Ashley Terrill, Charles C. Johnson and others who Gawker has been battling in court in recent months.

By initiating an adversary case, Gawker hopes to stave off the possibility of paying off judgments that it says would have a “crippling effect on the Debtor’s estates, prospects of reorganization, and distribution to creditors.”

Chuck the Rage Furby talked to the Daily Caller about this, boasting and preening of course, but check out how he describes his failed lawsuit against Gawker and Nick Denton:

Johnson told The Mirror that he has dropped his lawsuit against Gawker. In fact, he didn’t even show up to a May court date on the matter. “It is kind of interesting of them to come after to me, although I think it’s a move of desperation on their part,” he said.

In the real world, Chuck C. Johnson’s lawsuit against Gawker in Missouri was thrown out of court.

The other suit he filed in Fresno, California, that he says he “dropped?” Well, not exactly; he’s just lying to make himself look better, as usual.

In fact, he simply failed to show up for his hearing, and is now under court order to show cause and explain why he shouldn’t face sanctions from the court for wasting its time.

And now he’s on the receiving end of a lawsuit himself, for which he’ll have to spend his own money. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

Here’s the legal document filed by Gawker:

Mind you, the oppo research on Trump doesn’t require much more than going back through newspaper records to find all manner of gems about Trump and his business dealings.

Heck, even people who are supporting him are willing to concede the guy is notorious at paying his legal bills. He lowballs every last bill he gets, trying to weasel out of paying the full value, even when he’s satisfied with the legal work done.

It’s all about personal enrichment and screw contracts and billing.

It’s actually something I’ve seen with other billionaires too. They are willing to delay paying bills, complain about every little cost, and then drag out payments until the other party goes away.

EPR-radar  Jun 10, 2016 • 1:39:04pm

OT, but worth sharing.

The Republican party isn’t actually Christian. It’s more like a Jesus Club. Specifically, a Jesus Discount Club, because they discount everything Jesus said.

At the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s conference today:

Spox whines, because apparently Dems & media don’t get RWNJ humor:

Megan Whittemore, a spokeswoman for Perdue, criticized Democrats for reacting as if Perdue was dead serious.

“Senator Perdue said we are called to pray for our country, for our leaders and for our president,” she said. “He in no way wishes harm towards our president and everyone in the room understood that. However, we should add the media to our prayer list because they are pushing a narrative to create controversy and that is exactly what the American people are tired of.”

I’m not really sure this complaint counts as much of anything. They’re seeking injunctions to prevent the plaintiffs in the other cases from collecting the judgment against Denton. When you file for bankruptcy, any pending case you have is automatically stayed until either the bankruptcy court lets it go forward or the bankruptcy is resolved. But it doesn’t necessarily prevent the litigation from continuing against parties not in the bankruptcy.

Standard operating procedure for GOP-scum. Openly pray for Obama’s death and the ruin of his family, and then hide behind a fig-leaf of right wing ‘humor’ when called out for it.

Had any Democratic elected official offered up a similar prayer based on Psalm 109 vs. a Republican president, the RWNJ noise machine would have that at the top of their outrage list for the next thousand years.

It really is amazing how people are all about being tough on crime until the defendant’s skin color happens to be different. The Onion had a funny video about a white woman to be charged as a black man some years back. There definitely is racism in our court system. It’s always been there.

Gah, there are TONS of fire ants in Texas and the worst part about those little suckers is they don’t bite right away—they wait until a bunch have crawled onto you, then they all bite at once. Thankfully, I haven’t run into any here on the East Coast. Then again, I’ve never lived in the burbs up here and the urban areas are mostly concrete, so there’s no place for them to build their nests.

There are not nearly as many creepy, crawly, stingy, poisonous things up here as there are down in TX, but you know what you have a bunch of up here that they don’t have in TX? Those biting flies—I hate those things.

Yep that sounds right. The wink and nod are just assumed at this point.

So now I’m thinking about the swift, and remember one of us had the Audubon book on reptiles for North America. That’s how we tagged it. So I just now did a Wiki on it and this popped up;

Quote;
Response to fire ant predation[edit]
In 70 years, according to a study published in 2009, eastern fence lizards in parts of the United States have adapted to have longer legs and new behaviors to escape the red imported fire ant, which can kill the lizard in under a minute.[8]
End

Put that in your pipe and smoke it creationists.

Funny how much stuff I have stored in my head. Hope I don’t run out of storage….

It is, but the judge can make an exception if he feels there are extenuating circumstances, which is what he did here.

The only consolation from this fucked up case is that the 6 month pittance of a sentence has generated a huge bowl back, which means the little shit will never be anonymous again. If he had got what he deserved it would have been a single media cycle and he would then be forgotten by most. Now he more people have taken notice.

I’m sure there are people who are saying the people angry at the judge, the rapist, and the rapist’s father are worse than the rape itself because of course we live in this kind of reality where the people who attack Trump’s racism are actually the racists.

MRAs are claiming that Brock is the real victim. They even go as far as demonizing the two Swedish bikers who rescued her. David Futrelle covers this on the “WE HUNTED THE MAMMOTH” blog.

I read today that it’s very possible he won’t spend the entire six months in jail. Iirc, he’ll spend something like 2-3 months incarcerated in the county jail. Turner is already appealing his sentence. Rep. Ted Poe [R-TX] spoke about the case on the House floor. Poe seemed to be pissed that Turner’s sentence is so short and is calling for the judge to be removed from office.

“Poe, who was a prosecutor and a criminal court judge over the past 30 years, says he has met many rape victims and learned that the attacks devastate their lives. “This judge got it wrong,” said Poe. “In this case, the court and the defendant’s father wanted a pass for the rapist because he was a big shot swimmer,” said the congressman.”
theepochtimes.com

Poe’s comments surprise the hell out of me because I didn’t expect him to side with the victim. I have to give him props for being on the right side of this issue and for making his position part of the public record.

Apparently it was a probation officer who made the six month recommendation that the judge followed. Whomever that was deserves some attention too.

My jaw just about hit the floor when I read this morning that he had made a statement to the effect that he was from a small town and so hadn’t been exposed to alcohol and drugs and wasn’t prepared for the party culture of college.

Anyone who thinks high school kids in small towns don’t have access to alcohol, and don’t drink is probably too stupid to tie their own shoes. Also, I think he’s from a suburb rather than a true small town. They drink in the suburbs too…

Their hypocrisy is stunning. If one of their loved ones was the victim, they’d want the perpetrator to spend as much time behind bars as possible, but since it’s someone else’s loved one she must have been asking to be raped because she happened to drink too much at a frat party. SMDH. Persons like those you mention in your post seem to find it very hard to empathize with others which is what I think makes them take such a callous attitude toward the young woman Brock Turner raped.

They also believe most Christians aren’t Christian. Theirs is a very specific, highly-inventive reading of scripture and parable where the entire document proves how awesome GOP “Christian” voters are, no matter how they behave.

I taught in a small GA town for over 30 years, and you’re right. Kids in small towns do the same things kids in large cities do. They get drunk, commit suicide [unfortunately,] have abortions, bully their classmates, commit crimes, get sent to jail and prison as teens, get pregnant out of wedlock, etc. NPR had a report a few years ago about a mid-sized town in GA in which there was a high rate of venereal disease. The investigation revealed that kids were having sex parties after school and on weekends. The parents and town officials described the town’s residents as being very conservative. Sometimes parents don’t know what their kids are doing when they’re not in their presence. Brock Turner’s parents blame him moving from the Midwest to CA on his behavior. Lots of kids move away from home to attend college and most of them are never involved in incidents like the one Brock Turner was involved in.

On the other hand, Mother Jones was sued over writing about the 47% Romney speech, and letting you click through to the video. Ridiculous, right? First amendment case all the way through. But they still had to go to court and blow through millions for lawyers, and strangely enough, Mother Jones is not endowed by billionaires. They won, but it hurt bad.

It used to be illegal to pay for somebody else’s lawsuit. I can see why they stopped that, but here’s an idea: make it illegal for somebody to fund a suit without making his name public.

Black flies. Gnats. The French Canadiens would call them Midges. No-See-Ums.Up in Canada Cottage Country they cannot work in bad hatches. Or their other name; Sparks from Hell. I live by a river and we have our hatches. Most years they spray for them. The cleaner the water, the more larvae hatch. At one point in my life, probably because of my chemical makeup, I was a black fly magnet. Ate me alive. And I would get welts from them. Here’s a tip. Best non toxic gnat and bug repellant (for me anyway) is Avon Skin So Soft. Personally it works like a charm on Black Flies. They don’t just bite, they take chunks with them. 89% teeth. I used to say if they were the size of house flies we would all be dead.

The newspaper King publishes in Cleveland was the prop Trump used in the WP interview to “prove” he isn’t a racist. It backfired when King told the NYDN that he hadn’t endorsed Trump. That he took the newspaper and used it in an interview with a WP reporter informs me that Trump is an entertainer who thinks he’s competing in a reality TV show. It’s been my experience that if one isn’t racist, one doesn’t make racist comments. I’m not understanding Trump’s defenders who are saying he’s not racist. Ben Carson said that Trump was “speaking out loud,” which says to me that in spite of his claim to be a great Christian, Carson’s Christianity doesn’t extend to telling the truth if he’s willing to deny what we all heard. Carson’s comment reminds me of Romney saying that some things should only be discussed in “quiet rooms.” In other words, Carson is rubber-stamping Trump’s racist attitudes toward his fellow citizens as long as Trump doesn’t express them in public. Cowards, all of them are cowards.

Saw the comments about Brock Turner Swim Criminal Rapist Punk.

That bull about being a small town kid…yeah right. He’s from Oakwood Ohio, all of two or three miles from Dayton and just a tad south of the University of Dayton.

Hardly out in the sticks of Ohio. Plenty of areas for him to learn all kinds of big city stuff.

Actually only a few parts of Ohio are truly small town and isolated. Between Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dayton, Toledo, Akron and some medium sized cities like Springfield, Mansfield, Youngstown/Warren, Stubenville, mot many people are an hour from any population. And we know how youngsters with a license can get around.

But Oakwood, Pfft. Dad is as much a criminal as his son. I’d like to look into daddy’s past. I bet you there is some activity there that the old man thinks is just fine because he did it.

So Why Do All These Books About the Clintons Come Out Now?

I’ll save the suspense: It’s a conspiracy rather than, say, market forces in one of the most competitive and opportunistic industries in the world.
The idea is that the Soros-controlled gay/Muslim/lefty media moguls realize that Hillary cannot beat Trump and they are trying to get rid of her before the convention. Or something like that.

Note: A “vanity” is a post written by the poster, rather than linked from some other media.

Eek! One freep commenter has come dangerously close to the Truth!

Ways to interpret what is happening:
1. MSM is greasing the skids for a Biden-Warren ticket
2. MSM is letting all these books/movies out at the same time to minimize damage to Hillary. They will all be viewed as one blip that happened waaaay back in June.
3. It takes everyone about the same time to write a book or make a movie and every one of these writers/directors started about the same time, i.e. when Hillary started up her campaign.
4. Our secret alien lizard overlords are just messing with us.

My thoughts exactly…

She continues later that Turner will have to register as a sexual offender, and is concerned that he will have to register at the highest tier.

“Brock will have to register at the highest tier which means he is on the same level as a pedophile/child molester. There is no differentiation,” she writes. “The public records will reflect a Tier 3 so people will wrongly assume he is a child molester. I fear for his lifelong safety.”

Other members of Brock Turner’s family had similar sentiments, focusing on the impact on their family and not mentioning the victim.

“We were shocked, and stunned by the outcome and left to the only thing we could do — hold each other and cry. We still are in disbelief,” Turner’s grandparents, Carolyn and Richard Bradfield, wrote. “Brock is the only person being held accountable for the actions of other irresponsible adults.”

Brock Turner’s sister, 22-year-old Caroline Turner, also blames alcohol for the sexual assault. She also does not mention the victim, but says her brother “put himself in a situation and willingly participated in it.”

“Think of the extraordinary potential he has to be a voice in society and speak out against the binge drinking and sexual promiscuity that defines culture on college campuses,” Caroline Turner wrote. “His dreams were shattered in the course of an evening, but every action he took could have been prevented.”

re: #116 majii

I’m jaded. He’s a GOPer complaining about CA soft on crime judges.

Good on him sticking up for that poor woman. He’s a GOPer. There’s an ulterior motive.

re: #119 calochortus

Apparently it was a probation officer who made the six month recommendation that the judge followed. Whomever that was deserves some attention too.

My jaw just about hit the floor when I read this morning that he had made a statement to the effect that he was from a small town and so hadn’t been exposed to alcohol and drugs and wasn’t prepared for the party culture of college.

Agreed on the probation officer.

It was proven he lied about drugs. Texts from high school showed him texting with a school chum about scoring.

The judge KNEW he lied and purposely dismissed it. It was stated in a prior article.

Jurors are saying they can’t in good conscience be a juror n his court. They’re being excused.

Fuck this judge.

What pisses me off so much about GOP and right winger voters is they support the kind of FP that creates refugees in the first place. Take Latin America, tehy’re the ones who loved Reagan’s policies in El Salvador and as a result of those policies, a lot of people had to leave El Salvador due to the Civil War. I’m happy to have El Salvadorian immigrants obviously, my sister in law’s sister’s husband is from there and one hell of a guy but those right wingers who bitch about refugees don’t accept that the policies they support have consequences.

Of course rightwingers support those sort of policies: especially when they can be sold as “killing the bad guys” - i.e., killing commies, killing terrorists, etc, and the more the better. But they would, I think, vastly prefer it if the survivors would just stay in their own countries and be grateful for the “freedom” and “democracy” our policies have brought them.

Emphasis on the “survivors” part….

Just how fucking stupid do they think we are? No one in the world thinks an old white Republican guy quoting a Biblical death curse to a black President is a joke. He is a joke of a human being and I hope he never hears the end of this.

Right before the outrage began on Twitter, I posted my thoughts on this when I came across it as a very long E-mail to my stable of family and friends, and here at LGF.

Did I start something? Or coincidence? Next up we talk about the Bermuda Triangle.

When the hell did Bernie ever campaign for other progressive politicians Cenk? Clinton meanwhile has campaigned for several. See, that’s a key difference with her and Bernie. Clinton may not always agree with her progressive colleagues but she has their backs. Bernie OTOH would rather present a narrative of Bernie against the world and then act shocked when very few people back him for the high office. I just love the idea that the progressive politicians like Warren owed Bernie anything. Bernie couldn’t even campaign for candidates like John Fetterman who supported him.

“…The American Right has become willfully disengaged from its fellow citizens thanks to a wonderful virtual-reality machine in which conservatives, both elite and grassroots, can believe anything they wish, no matter how at odds it is with reality.

They can wake up in the morning and read email newsletters filled with nonsense from the likes of Dick Morris along with false promises of “secret cancer cures.” As they make their breakfast, they can flip through websites utterly devoid of reporting and data analysis predicting that Democrats are on the run and Hillary Clinton is sure to be indicted. During the work day, they can turn on the radio and listen to Christian nationalists like Bryan Fischer tell them how the Founding Fathers intended to provide religious freedom only to Christians.

I listened to an episode of On Point yesterday about the first “superbug” landing in the US. I’m now reasonably sure this is how we’re all going to die.

As it turns out, there is a research group trying to identify novel bacteria (because many species of bacteria create their own antibiotics to eliminate the competition).

Strangely enough, they found a bunch of novel bacteria that have antimicrobial properties in the model Dalek at the BBC headquaters (in its snout).

When testing the bacteria found in the Dalek, several of the species were able to kill the lab reference resistant bacteria the research group is using to find new antibiotics.

So the Daleks may actually come to save us rather than destroy us. Dr. Who was wrong all along. Exterminate! Exterminate! was meant for microbes, not bbc.co.uk.

Yeah, Fischer’s take away from Nazi Germany is that there were a handful of gay Nazis so ergo it’s okay to discriminate against gay people. Funny how that doesn’t apply to the heterosexual German Christians that were much more numerous in the NSDAP than gay people. Fischer has a history of statements that frankly make Pat Robertson look like Aquinas.

For decades, Republicans have made little secret of the fact that they believe only Christians are real Americans. If I am not mistaken, even George H.W. suggested atheists not be allowed to vote (!!!).

It is alleged (as a journalist reported it but has no written record or recording) that GHW Bush said that he thought atheists could not be patriotic, and should not be considered citizens.

It is a good article, but I don’t think republicans will pay much attention to it since they, as the article states, have their own version of reality they prefer and are very dismissive of their fellow citizens. It’s like the 2012 autopsy report. They wasted time and money on it, talked about it but haven’t changed a thing. Example #1. Knowing they need to attract more POC into their party Rubio became a member of “The Gang of Eight.” The group produced an immigration reform bill, and the senate passed it, but it was DOA in the House. Democrats didn’t kill the bill, GOP/TP cowardice did.

Well, here’s some good news, anyway:

Volcanic rocks help turn carbon emissions to stone — and fast

A new technique turns climate-warming carbon emissions to stone. In a test program in Iceland, more than 95 percent of the carbon dioxide injected into basaltic lava rocks mineralized into solid rock within two years. This surprisingly fast transformation quarantined the CO2 from the atmosphere and could ultimately help offset society’s greenhouse gas emissions, scientists report in the June 10 Science.

Yeah they won’t. Sheffield’s right. They do have their own version of reality. Great point about Rubio and immigration. Rubio ducked out of immigration reform the second the base got angry and he might be seen as working with President Obama on an issue. I suspect the same will happen with Clinton and it would happen with Sanders too if he were elected. The right in this country has a lot of work to do until they can become a credible ideology again in this country. I think a good first step would be admitting that we were right a lot of the time to call them racist, sexist, etc but I don’t see that happening.

The GOP/TP list of outcasts grows every year. After they lost the ssm issue, they have now pivoted to talking about who can/can’t use certain bathrooms. I don’t understand their ability to talk about how much they love the constitution while violating it. I’m a Christian, and someone being an atheist doesn’t bother me one bit. I think republicans look for something to hate to distract from their lack of skill at governing. They know that most Americans don’t like their positions on quite a few issues, so instead of addressing healthcare, jobs, the economy, etc., they choose a social issue. The Kansas legislature adjourned last week while knowing the KS Supreme Ct. expected members to address school funding, but they chose to vote on a resolution to impeach the president and spend time on a transgender bathroom bill, neither of which does squat about underfunded schools in the state.

I don’t blame Reagan and Nixon for everything about Trump but I do think they helped enable a political party where he could be successful through his actions. Reagan definitely race baited. Okay, we can agree to disagree but I really think he needs to get some blame and it doesn’t help that the same GOP you speak of reveres him like Washington and Lincoln should be. Perhaps the best way to fix the GOP is for them to admit that some of their great heroes like Reagan were flawed. Here’s another example of the limitations of Twitter in explaining complex ideas. People who are familiar with how evolution works would read the @realscientists tweet and assume the fence lizards individually changed morphology to respond to the threats of the fire ants. But what happened over time is the lizards with short legs got eaten up, while lizards that were randomly born with longer legs lived long enough to mate and produce more long-legged lizards. Meanwhile, there were still plenty of short-legged lizards around to feed the fire ants.

But here’s the thing RWC, it worked for Reagan and Nixon. The two won electoral landslides. Is every man and woman who voted for them a bigot? No, but I really do think they bare some responsibility because they showed Trump that you could succeed not just in the GOP but at running successfully for the presidency using this kind of rhetoric. You’re right that Trump being Trump would have done it without them but I erally don’t think that’s the point. re: #465 Great White Snark

Everyone since had every opportunity to go their own way. Go negative or not. Go corporate or not. Go southern strategy or not. Trump could have played on these sentiments whether the GOP had used them before or not. The sentiments (such as immigrant scapegoating) pre date the GOP.

I don’t even know what that means. The GOP, led by Nixon and Reagan and others made the conscious choice to become the party of choice of racists, authoritarians, and bible-banging hypocrites, in hopes that they could use that to gain electoral success. They chose to become the party of angry white Christian people, with the promise of preserving white Christian privilege. They made the GOP a home for all the racist Southern Democrats who were mad at LBJ for making them stop treating the blacks like shit.

Some DID go their own way, and they got chucked out of the party. How many prominent Republicans of the 1950s and 1960s could even get nominated to City Council on the GOP ticket these days. Eisenhower? Dirksen? Javits? Lindsay? Rockefeller? Weicker?

No, the GOP made the choice in the 1960s to become the White People’s Party. And Trump is the natural result of the choices made after 1964, and reinforced again and again by Republican leader after Republican leader.

Furious President of Turkey abandons Muhammad Ali funeral and flies home after being cut from speech line-up and banned from laying a cloth on boxer’s coffin during Muslim ceremony

Recep Tayyip Erdogan had specially flown to Louisville, Kentucky, to say farewell to Ali
But the president’s office said Erdogan left the United States for Turkey late Thursday after attending the prayer ceremony
He was due to speak at today’s multi-faith service but lost his slot due to ‘lack of program space’
Funeral organizers also ‘refused to allow Erdogan to lay a cloth from the Kaaba on Ali’s coffin during the Thursday ceremony’
In addition he wanted the head of Turkey’s religious affairs directorate to recite part of the Koran, but his wish had been refused

Aww, poor Recep! Those nasty funeral organizers hurt iddim’s fee-fees so bad you had to leave in a WHAAAmbulance.

A cop friend of mine here in TN flat out told me that if you are going to Bonaroo and are driving a car with Colorado plates, you will get stopped and searched.

RBS

There is a fair chance of that here in Nebraska too, particularly in the counties that border Colorado.

When cannabis was legalised in Colorado, there was noise in the Unicameral to close off all the agricultural roads crossing the state line and only allow the eleven paved ones to remain open (to better patrol the border). They also advanced the idea of using volunteer militias to patrol, since all our counties here on the state line are very rural with few people.

Fortunately, the Democrats and a number of Republican legislatures thought that was too wingnutty.

No other Muslim on this planet can accomplish what Ali did. No one.

He was not only a star athlete, but my brother in faith and humanity. Here we have a proud black American Muslim, who has left such an amazing legacy in which the entire city of Louisville was shut down to honor the Greatest of All Time and his wishes to hold the procession throughout the city. It was amazing to see the amount of people on side of the streets honoring him and his legacy he left on his hometown.

No, there will never be another Muhammad Ali. He was truly one of a kind. May Allah grant him Paradise and bless his family now and in the Hereafter.

Shocking footage captures Philly reporter being assaulted LIVE ON AIR as woman punches her in the head

This is the shocking moment a news reporter was attacked by a passing woman live on air.

Iris Delgado was speaking to Telemundo 62 cameras outside Philadelphia City Hall in Pennsylvania on Wednesday evening.

Just as her report nears its end a woman in a green t-shirt approaches and taps her on the arm, saying ‘Excuse me’.

Ever the professional Delgado simply ignores her - although looks slightly irked - as she passes to a male reporter back in the studio.

But as he takes over the woman suddenly grabs Delgado by her hair and violently yanks her backwards before punching her in the face.

Hey lady in green,

I know being ignored is annoying, but could you please not respond to it with violence, please? Thanks to you Chuckles the Rage Furby and Fox news are going to hype the “Knock-Out Game” again, and then they’ll spew racism again.

Please don’t give the bigots ammunition.

Kthxbai,

Hell even with the red baiting, Nixon pre-Southern Strategy was decent. I think it’s interesting that two of the most prominent Republicans of the era who did not move to the right on Civil Rights were mentioned as RINOs that needed to be removed from the party. And honestly Gerald Ford didn’t think Rocky was a RINO, he thought enough of him to make him his VP.

Looking at Google map because I wasn’t too sure where Ault is.

Not to far from Dieppe, which carries a nasty taste as a Canadian.

I am traveling with a Canadian as well - so we are doing a little Canadian military history as well, though it is not her major issue. My brother and I found a small memorial in Rochefort that indicated that it had been liberated in 1944 by Canadian paratroopers.

Hmm. Raining this morning. That means a wet hike/look at Utah beach by my brother and myself while the rest of the party sleeps in.
