Donald Trump’s Ugly Tweets on Orlando

“Appreciate the congrats”
Politics • Views: 52,461

The Republican Party’s nominee for president of the United States immediately made the Orlando attack all about him, tweeting “Appreciate the congrats for being right.”

And then followed this ugly egomaniacal comment with a tweet bashing President Obama for not saying the magic words “radical Islamic terrorism” (a moronic talking point he knows the degraded right wing base absolutely loves) and demanding that he “resign in disgrace” because he didn’t utter the incantation.

Not a word of sympathy for the victims of this horrible attack.

Knowing how fucking sick this country is as of late, I wouldn’t doubt if this actually did end up helping Trump enormously.

Waiting to see if he makes some additional outrageous proposal, like a “temporary” closure of US mosques, are requiring all muslims to register with the government.

I just gave blood the other day. The question that pertains to gays is if you’ve had sex with another man, so it’s a bit broader than that. But there are also restrictions based on whether you’ve been to other countries. This now includes Mexico and South America due to the Zika virus.

Mexico and South America for Zika is sensible, since we know the virus is transmitted in blood and an adult will not necessarily know they ever had the disease. Certain European countries for BSE makes sense because there is no way to test for prion disease.

For a very long time we have had tests to ensure HIV, which is not passed just by gay men, does not enter the blood supply. There is no empirical reason that all men who have ever had same-sex should be banned from giving blood. (Therefore, it is anti-gay bias, which makes sense from the anti-science party.)

This is how well ‘It’s Racist to Ban Muslims’ works:

Mateen had reportedly bragged about ties to “terrorist organizations” in the past, and became a person of interest to the FBI in 2013 and 2014. An investigation on Mateen was also opened prior to the attack, but ended up closing as it produced nothing that appeared to warrant further investigation.[47]

I’m back.

My official duties of Flag Committee Chairman in my village include sending out sad messages to county officials on half-staff notices.

The message I just sent:

——- ——- ——-

Fifty people were killed and at least fifty-three were injured in a mass shooting in an Orlando nightclub at about 2AM Eastern Time. This is the largest mass-shooting in the United States’s history. As National Public Radio notes about any tragedy:

This is a developing story, some things reported in the media now will turn out to be wrong. Focus on reports from police officials and other authorities, credible news outlets, and reporters on the scene.

whitehouse.gov

President Barack Obama has issued a half-staff notice for all government grounds, ships, stations, legations, and embassies of the United States, effective until sundown June 16. This includes the flag flying half-staff on Flag Day, June 14. The Mayor of Orlando Buddy Dyer requests a moment of silence at 6PM Eastern Time (4PM Mountain Time) to remember those who died and those who are injured.

For flags that cannot be lowered to half-staff (such as those from a gaff on a porch or a boat, or those displayed on a fixed staff in an office or flat on a wall), the American Legion recommends affixing a black ribbon the width of one stripe and the length of the flag to the top of the gaff or staff. For a flag displayed flat, a bow should be affixed to the top or the centre of the flag.

HONORING THE VICTIMS OF THE ATTACK IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA
- - - - - - -
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
As a mark of respect for the victims of the act of hatred and terror perpetrated on Sunday, June 12, 2016, in Orlando, Florida, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, June 16, 2016. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this
twelfth day of June, in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fortieth.

No, you cant deport Americans for being Muslims, but you can sure not let any more in temporarily .. Until you at least get a handle on the situation

Here’s my comment that appears right before your first comment:

Regardless of the shooter’s motive, right now there are hundreds of family members and friends who are in pain and shock as a result of his actions. My thoughts go to all those hurt, directly and indirectly, by this atrocity.

To all those people trying to use this to further their agenda against Muslims and gays, I say a hearty “Fuck you, heartless bastards!”

Let me repeat that for your sake: Fuck you, heartless bastard!

There’s a lot of debate about that right now. We debate things on the right. Reach the solution that is the most practical for saving the lives of people inside the convention hall. That’s why Trump will win in a landslide. He will do what’s right for the American people, not what’s politically correct.

A gun-yes zone in Orlando would have saved over a 100 casualties.

There’s zero debate about that right now. The secret service has been quite clear that “the most practical for saving the lives of people inside the convention hall” is not letting people with guns into the convention hall.

Talking head blaming Homeland Security for not providing funds (Congress you idiot provides funds). Gaa, I only have a high school diploma and I can read the Constitution and understand it. Why can’t I get a multi-thousand dollar job as a talking head? Oh right, liberal media.

Wow, lots of people are ready to throw out a whole lot of the Constitution (and their own state laws on shall-issue) to copulate with that II Amendment chicken.

But they wouldn’t put up a dime of tax money to do any of that, you betcha.

Back to Jim Wright of Stonekettle’s blog entry on why we will never end gun violence. Because even the ideas proposed by those who are all II Amendment all the time will not support their own ideas. They all see any sort of law that would implement their own ideas as a “slippery slope.”

So Chief Warrant Officer Wright is correct: There is nothing we can do. Until the paranoid part of society decides that enough death and carnage and bloodshed that claims about as many US lives as the Vietnam War did every single year, nothing can be done.

Trump makes this all about him. No shock or surprise there.

He says we have to go after someone - hold someone responsible. Never mind that he can’t identify who, what, where, and how to do any of those things.

The right wing solution to everything is always more guns. Never mind that there was an armed guard at the club and that didn’t stop the attacks.

If “ISIS” equaled “NRA”, I’m completely with that. I’m furious that supposed “law-abiding gun owners” (which the shooter apparently was) look the other way when things like this happen. Shouldn’t they worry? In a true active shooter scenario, they’re no less likely to be shot.

If they hunt with guns lawfully according to their state’s game laws, what should they care about lawbreakers? That’s another thing I despise—the NRA hides behind hunters and hunting every time they can!

198
SteelPH  Jun 12, 2016 • 1:22:25pm

You know, sometimes I get asked about my own personal philosophy, seeing the horrors committed everyday, the terrible things people write, believe, and espouse at every opportunity, and the rise of people like Donald Trump. It’s because of reflection on my past actions throughout my life, along with heavy inspiration from movies like Camelot, and even superheroes, helping me focus my beliefs into something that was a good foundation for a personal philosophy. Those who have power should use it to do good, that violence is not strength, compassion is not weakness, that revenge is utterly pointless. It is about kindness and decency, striving for something far more noble than the adolescent power fantasies that some people often prefer to default to.

I think I hate people like Donald Trump and the GOP more than anyone else in my entire life, because they are the complete antithesis of everything I believe in. They say that you should be unkind, they say you shouldn’t trust people, they say compassion will be repaid with violence, that violence can only be answered with more violence, and that violence is strength. That hurting others is not only enjoyable and desirable, but that it should be employed first when dealing with threats. They say if you have power, you can lord that power over others and do harm to them. They say that revenge is a worthy cause. They treat women as inferiors or enemies. They tell us we should fear the other, the foreigner, the dark-skinned, the religion that’s not your own. And you know the damnedest thing of all is? I am, in all honesty, afraid of terrorism.

Terrorism is real. There are people out there who want to kill me, either because I’m from a different country, or just because they’re some angry misanthrope with a gun. That applies to both foreign and domestic terrorists. Terrorism is about making someone so afraid that they’ll do what you tell them to, and the grand message of Trump and the GOP is: Be afraid. Be terrified. Let’s give into that fear and embrace every dark, sick, and inhuman part of our souls as a result, and do everything to them that they will do to us.

They must be so proud.

re: #198 SteelPH

I’m not sure it falls short of that, actually.

This is the worst mass shooting in US history.

I was thinking the same thing and then I realized this shooting was at a gay bar. The outrage is somewhat diminished with the people who’d vote for Trump.

I say this as a gay man. I’m sorry, but I think it’s true.

TV talking head talking about horrific it must have been for the police officers who walked through the scene of the carnage, with the relatives and friends of fifty people lying dead on the floor calling them, cell phones ringing that would get no answer, knowing they could not answer the phones because they were processing a crime scene.

That must be God awful (whether you believe in a god or no) for those officers to hear.

re: #191 Eclectic Cyborg

The same kinds of guns used in mass shootings keep cropping up in other mass shootings.

The number of suicides and homicides is pretty constant, with a slow steady drumbeat in the background. 24/7/365.

The NRA response to all of this?

More guns. Because Obama (or now Hillary) is going to take ‘em all from you and repeal the 2A.

Fear mongering is all that the GOP/NRA have left.

Rational solutions, or even attempts to address the carnage fall on deaf ears because the NRA/GOP position is one where even regulating firearms or eliminating sales of certain classes of firearms (like say assault weapons - long barrel firearms with semi-auto/full-auto capabilities with large capacity magazines/clips) will fall on deaf ears.

so the carnage continues. And we deal with mass shootings with alarming regularity.

The rationale behind the shootings is almost irrelevant for purposes of this discussion because the ready availability of firearms means that anyone who can pass a background check can pretty much get any/all firearms that they can afford to buy.

And so the good guy with a gun becomes a mass murderer.

It’s a mass shooting in America. Mass shootings in America do not fully register as terrorism in the psyche of the ordinary American. The religious beliefs of the mass shooting perpetrator will register with the ordinary American, but the atrocity still won’t quite register to them as terrorism. Terrorism requires suicide bombers or hijacked planes. A mass shooting in America is too common. It is too common to be thought of as terrorism in the mind of an ordinary American. I say this because I am one. I am an ordinary American, and this horror has become all too ordinary in itself. I’m depleted.

Consider this combination.

1) The Republican party and conservative movement insist absolutely nothing be done to restrict the availability of guns in the US. That means that any nut job with a grievance can easily become a heavily armed nut job with a grievance.

2) The Republican party and conservative movement diligently spread propaganda 24/7 having as its main effect the agitation of every right wing nut job in the country and conversion of non-RWNJs to RWNJs.

Looks like pure evil to me.

We regulate trucks, drivers, road regulations, tests, &c. We license and register them, title them, investigate when they are stolen.

Guns, not so much. But yeah, the wingnut arguing about Ford rangers, does he really want to go there?

The right to travel without licenses and registrations was universally considered a constitutional right in every court in the land. It could not be infringed, found in common law, and the IX and X Amendments.

But drivers became so irresponsible, so dangerous, that the Supreme Court eventually found that the government had a legitimate interest in regulating autos. Today driving is one of the most heavily-regulated things you can do, even to the point that the right was redefined as a privilege.

I’m getting that in my twitter feed.

If only more patrons were armed, they could return fire.

Except that we’d probably have even more people injured or dead from crossfire. The aggressor always has the advantage in these incidents. Always. Dark/poorly lit areas, a gunman who knows all those he comes across are targets, and he appears to have been trained in firearm use - not just a guy who bought his first gun.

Meanwhile, most people who own guns don’t have training, let alone the specific kind of training needed to deal with active shooter incidents, such as differentiating between shooter and other potential victims, checking line of fire behind shooter, etc. All of which would end up adding the carnage.

I think that, unfortunately, such deliberate acts are very difficult to anticipate and prevent.

Focusing on reducing the much larger number of #gunfails of all types, would raise the general awareness of the rampant cavalier approach to general gun handling including transfers/sales that is allowed to continue.

This is primarily because active / lobbyist / responsible gun owners fail to demand fellow gun owners control their guns.

Control includes who you sell or lend to and under what circumstances.
You have a right to keep and bear. No one has an obligation to sell to you.

Not advocating for swift and severe punishment for the irresponsible perpetuates the idea that 100% control at all times, including responsible (not merely legal) transfers, is not required.

The co-op is only a few blocks away. Though I am not a farmer (and thus cannot get any significant quantity of ammonium nitrate), it would be no trouble to take the place if I wanted to.

But the village is told by the state in our last village board meeting we needed to upgrade our alarm on our city water tower (which has a fence and two different alarm systems already) to prevent terrorism.

In 18th-Century military parlance a military force was “Well-regulated” if it had a rigid and unbreakable rank hierarchy, all commissioned ranks bestowed by civilian authority (no election of officers IOW), and a system of discipline so savage that the rank-and-file were more afraid of their officers than they were of the enemy, so they’d never dream of running away.

That means most state militias, even by the Civil war era, were not “Well-regulated”.

I think arguing the meaning and interpretation of the 2A is not a winner.

as things general stand now, the right exists. If so, it comes with responsibility.

that’s where the Achilles heel is. Irresponsibility is demonstrably rampant.

And if the “responsible” ones don’t advocate for swift severe and sure punishment for the others, they basically want the right without any personal responsibility ramifications. that’s exactly counter to what they say every day.
