Donald Trump’s Poll Numbers Are Plummeting Fast, and He’s Taking the GOP With Him

Meltdown
Politics • Views: 48,908

The latest poll numbers are an absolute disaster for Donald Trump — and for the Republican Party in general.

Just 32 percent of Americans view the Republican Party favorably as it prepares to formally nominate Donald Trump for president, the latest Bloomberg Politics national poll shows, the lowest level recorded since the poll’s inception in September 2009.

The Democratic Party, by contrast, is seen favorably by 49 percent. Congress is viewed favorably by just 24 percent, the lowest since March 2010 and a response that found near bipartisan agreement in the poll.

Those views will not only shape the presidential race between Trump and Hillary Clinton, they could spill over into down-ballot contests that that will determine control of Congress and governorships after November.

“This is obviously related to perceptions of Trump,” said pollster J. Ann Selzer, who oversaw the survey. “This bleeds out into perceptions of the party and to other GOP politicians.”

Read the questions and methodology here.

Something’s gotta give here.

I realize that the GOP has painted themselves into the mother of all corners here - they can’t toss Trump over the side, because his supporters would go with him. But will they really stick with this guy who is overseeing the utter destruction of their party?

Like Josh Marshall said, this is not sustainable. Either by design or accident, something is going to break loose here.

Also, apparently Israel is cutting off water to the West Bank.

Israeli water company Mekorot cuts its water supply to the West Bank, while Palestinians are celebrating Ramadan, leaving tens of thousands of people without safe drinking water. (Al Jazeera)
Mekorot denies cutting off water to the West Bank. It does admit a broad reduction in water supply to the Palestinian territory. (Mo4ch News) (Al Jazeera)
The executive director of NGO Palestinian Hydrology Group says water was totally siphoned off in some Palestinian areas before and during Ramadan days. (Al Jazeera)
Israeli water company Mekorot has not altered the water supply to Israeli colonies on the West Bank. Mekorot cut off water supplies to Jenin, several Nablus villages, the city of Salfit and surrounding villages. Jenin mayor Ragheb Al Haj Hassan says the water cut off without prior notice has been catastrophic. Palestinians have resorted to buying water tanks to meet their basic needs.

Trump is in denial about his falling poll numbers. In Atlanta today, he said the poll numbers are “phony.”

“”So now, they’re saying she has built a massive team. She’s got almost nine hundred people, and she’s spending money, and Trump has seventy-three people, but you know we’re doing very well. Watch what the end result is. Watch what the end result is. And when you look at the phony poll numbers that I’m seeing. Take a look at the poll numbers from right after this horrendous, and horrible, and something that we have to stop attack.”“
politicususa.com

I expect to hear more from him about the phony poll numbers, maybe some attacks on polling outfits, and some GOP/TPers to come up with “unskewed” polls that show Trump wins in a landslide in November. IOWs, the usual RW BS.

Avoiding generalizations about all gun owners is the best & most obvious way to refute it, then if they accuse you of doing so ask them to point out where you did it. If you are making generalizations, then you don’t really have any room to complain.

And on that note, I’m outta here—need to get some sleep.

Then tell them that nobody is generalizing all gun owners, whereas millions of jerks, including one party’s chosen presidential candidate, are generalizing all Muslims in the whole world.

Not sure how you’re arguing, but we’ve never said all gun owners are evil, especially since some of us own guns. At the same time, I am more than willing to argue that it’s OK to ban things like weapons that fire more than one round per trigger pull, armor piercing bullets, and large magazines because they are dangerous and not needed for hunting or self-defense, in the same way that we ban people from owning explosives.

makeitstop  Jun 15, 2016 • 9:07:25pm

I found this via a commenter over at Driftglass. The author of several books on domestic violence says that Trump exhibits all the traits of a wife beater writ large.

In truth, most women don’t need psychiatrists to explain the peculiar admiration of an aspiring autocrat for his role models. Every woman who has ever had to deal with a Trump-style-tyrant in her own home or at her job already has Trump’s number. We recognize him as a bloated specimen of the common garden variety Controlling Man, a familiar type of Household Hitler.

In fact, Donald J. Trump perfectly fits the profile of an ordinary wife abuser — with one additional twist. Expansive fellow that he is, Trump has not confined his controlling tactics to his own home(s). For seven years, he practiced them openly for all the world to see on The Apprentice, his very own reality show, and now applies them on a national stage, commanding constant attention while alternately insulting, cajoling, demeaning, embracing, patronizing, and verbally beating up anyone (including a “Mexican” judge) who stands in the way of his coronation.

Let me be clear. I’m not suggesting that Donald Trump beats his wife (or wives). I’m only observing that this year the enormous gender gap among voters can be partially explained by the fact that, thanks to their own personal experience, millions of American women know a tyrant when they see one.

Well worth a read. Going into lurk mode, catch y’all tomorrow.

Being the cowards that I know they are, I don’t think Reince Preibus, McConnell, Ryan, or any other GOP/TPer wants to make the move to take the nomination from Trump in Cleveland because they lack the courage to stand up to their base. I really want her to get her “mandate” We need to break this 51/49 thing. We need functioning government. The GOP needs to be trounced.

Worse yet, this 60/40 thing—where the 40 were elected by about 10% of the population.

It actually occurs to me that the other WWE-like scenario would be Trump continuing to be such a shitheel that when the GOP gives him the equivalent of a folding chair ambush, they look good by comparison.

(Also, I may be channeling a dead flim-flam man from like 1910 or so, because I seem eerily comfortable with the vernacular of traveling shows and seedy roadside attractions. It’s not just a writing on the board thing, anymore. Nothing stops a dinner conversation like dropping the phrase “cooch tent” into an extending metaphor.)

The Republican convention is still a little more than a month away — an eternity in this campaign cycle.

All bets are off.

The pigs are out of the tunnel (to quote Hunter S. Thompson).

I don’t think we can take anything at all off the table vis-a-vis Trump. He may stick with it, he may drop out, he may be forced out.

Any way you slice it, people all over this planet will be affected by this stumpy-fingered vulgarian.

71

All right, I probably shouldn’t mention this possibility, but I read too many international suspense novels, and a scenario suggests itself. Somewhere in a private room in DC a group of shadowy power brokers huddle over eighteen-year-old single malts. Someone eventually says something like, “Will no one rid us of this turbulent assclown?” Silent glances pass around the table until the leader says quietly: “We blame it on her of course.”

Right now, Bloomberg has Johnson at 9% of the vote. After the bloodbath I expect to see in Cleveland I believe there is a very real possibility of a GOP split with anti-Trumpettes jumping to Johnson. We could possibly see a rerun of the 1912 scenario when Trump runs third. Johnson may actually carry some Western states such as Utah, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. Trump may just wind up with West Virginia, and a couple Southern states.

The filibuster is now in its 14th Hour.

Wow! We just had a discussion over dinner with the resident Trump supporter and me (the now-former Sanders supporter). Most of the people at the table were conservatives (being Wyoming and all).

As I dragged in facts and quotes about Mr. Trump, and the resident Trump supporter was visibly distressed (damn Hillary is a traitor, etc.), one of those present said, “Were you on your high school debate team? (Yes) Well, you can’t really argue facts with him because they have a liberal bias.” LOLOL

In the meantime, my wife was trying to knock down his arguments that “global warming is a liberal hoax” and “liberal media bias” and you name it.

He also wasn’t impressed much by arguing about Mr. Trump’s appeal to fascist tendencies.

Made for good dinner conversation. (We haven’t had a good political discussion in a while.)

We all still left friends, so I guess that was okay.

On the other hand, I am not sure the Raddisson Hotel wants us back …

Every forty years or so we see either a realignment of party positions, or the death of a party followed by the rise of a new one. Third parties really haven’t amounted to much in 240 years of American politics, simply from the design of our governmental systems.

It is my firm opinion that if Gov. Johnson and Gov. Weld, both highly respected governors in their states (Gov. Weld won reëlection in Massachusetts by the biggest landslide since the colony was formed, losing less than ten districts statewide), and the Libertarian Party keeps its wingnuts under control, they could drive the stake through the GOP’s heart and we will have a new party shift.

I am not big on the LP’s economic positions, but their social positions are much closer to the Democrats. There is no bathroom panic or gay marriage panic or anti-abortion panic going on in the Libertarian Party. The shift in focus if they became the second major party would be to foreign affairs, economics, and the scope and purpose of government, with the social derp finally left out.

Libertarians are actually fairly big in favor of allowing discrimination on the basis of race, religion and sexual orientation, they just tend to tolerate it under the rubric of “State’s rights” and individual association. I will never support them, their opposition to Article 2 of the Civil Rights Act, and their resulting ability to condone bigotry and discrimination in public accommodations is an absolute deal breaker.

Emphasis on wingnuts. The LP’s gonna have to grow up. They may even have to abandon the Randians and the Rothbards. I’m certain of it.

Or at least the dude dancing on stage in a thong running for party chair.

My wife the former Libertarian Party campaign treasurer left the party and joined the Democrats because the silliness became too much.

At the last nominating convention, when Johnson and Weld were forwarded and Gov. Johnson pointed out that this was a real opportunity to get the Libertarian Party on a national debate stage with the two major parties (presuming they break the polling barrier and they are close), that would give them the opportunity to get their message out.

A whole lot of people at the party convention opposed that, because they like being a fringe party.

In the end, they went for the rational choices (and tossed the guy in the thong out of the convention).

As easily as Secretary Clinton could dispatch Mr. Trump in a debate, Gov. Johnson ain’t no slouch either (he won over the Libertarians, which is quite a feat in itself). Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Johnson tag teaming Mr. Trump (Clinton on social issues and Johnson on economic ones, with both on foreign policy) would likely cause a programming fault in Mr. Trump (just stay out of his blast radius if he goes on self-destruct).

I don’t think the LP is a threat this time around, and they would likely pull Republican voters (maybe a few Democrats, but not many). However, Governor Johnson despises Donald Trump. He is on the same page with Democrats here, that Mr. Trump is a fascist and the GOP willingly nominated him knowing that. I think for this purpose he would be an excellent ally on that debate stage, even if the Democrats and Libertarians have different views on governance and foreign policy.

I would like substantial debates on foreign policy or the role of government and get away from the social derp for good; relegate the moral panic to the fringe of our political system and get to substantive policy debates.

Well, some do and some don’t. I am unsure of the present Libertarian Party platform, though I could look it up. They are generally big on devolving power or opposing government regulation, which I find in our society would lead to bigotry or abuse; therefore I oppose them.

My wife was never on board with the LP message of a side eye at the Civil Rights Act or public accommodation laws (she was an LP member and a member of the IWW at the same time, for a real load of cognitive dissonance - that said, the LP does not oppose unions per se).

Another Wobbly! Nothing like my Liberal Gun Club patch held on my blaze orange ball cap by my crossed rifles and red IWW button to cause cognitive dissonance in the local right wingers.

I have a Liberal Gun Club sticker on my car.

I took my car to the co-op last year to have a tire looked at. Aside from all the mechanics wanting to “test drive” my Smart (because none of them had ever driven one except one mechanic that used to work at the Smart dealer in Denver), I got a bunch of questions about the sticker.

“Liberals own guns? I thought you wanted to take them all.” &c.

I pointed out “Liberals don’t want your guns, we have our own.” That got a bunch of chuckles.

Personally, I think guns ought to be titled like houses or cars. Heck, a lot of guns are as expensive as cars anyway. (My shotgun wasn’t particularly expensive.)

The gun shop owner here in town asked me in the past why I have a shotgun for home defence. (I am not a hunter, and for the defence part, we live sixteen miles from the sheriff’s department, and he only has one car. If he is on the other side of the county it could be an hour before he got here.)

I pointed out that if I ever needed it (I have used it once in a defensive posture, to run off a burglar from the church across the street in the middle of the night, God works through atheist liberals), I don’t want to miss. I would rather pick pellets out of my walls. A shotgun is about as sporting as a water hose, and at night in the dark half asleep I don’t have to worry too much about aim.

He laughed at the water hose analogy, and quit trying to sell me guns. (He is in business for that and next door to my house.)

American libertarianism is all about states rights that goes back to slavery. Libertarians want states to do anything they want and the Federal government cannot interfere. Libertarianism before America was popular with the Lords in Feudal England.

Gary Johnson says he is for legalizing drugs and gay marriage, but I don’t see them supporting a Federal law for either that would force states to accept. Libertarianism is the ultimate stereotypical white guy party, they don’t understand what life is like beyond their little bubble.

I’ve had arguments with my wife before about “ultimate freedom” and such. My go-to argument is Somalia, which the CATO Institute argued would become a libertarian utopia after Said Barre was overthrown and a libertarian-style government was set up.

That didn’t work too well.

Libertarianism is like a lot of political theories; when the rubber hits the road it has real problems. Those rugged Galt’s Gulch individuals work great until a group with bigger or more guns comes along. That’s what happened to Somalia.

In Chile, libertarianism (of a sort) was instituted under Pinochet, and it destroyed the economy.

Turns out capitalism only works with a set of rules everyone plays by. Laissez faire capitalism results in monopolies, just like the real estate game. The only way to get rid of the monopoly is government that serves the interests of the people, because corporations sure won’t.

The idea that everyone is a contractual equal sort of falls apart if it’s you with a few thousand dollars versus Apple Computer or Exxon-Mobil.

Yeah, we might get that if Ted Cruz is put in place instead of Trump. With Trump all the GOP would get is a massive defeat. With Cruz (endorsed and interviewed on wingnut pastor Kevin Swanson’s show), we would get a theocracy, just as she fears.

Swanson wants gays stoned and liberals killed.

Last I heard, the Methodist Church (to which Mrs. Clinton belongs) is not banging the drum for beheadings.

On the other hand, conservatives promised us that Obama would run up FEMA reëducation camps for conservatives. Damn, Mr. President it’s been seven years! Where’s our gun confiscations (oh right, under Obama rights were expanded to include carrying in National Parks). Where’s our FEMA camps? (Oh right, Obama got rid of Bush’s useless tool in charge and put someone in place that actually knows how to run an emergency management agency). Where are all the UN Blue Helmets forcing everyone into hobbit homes under Agenda 21? (Oh right, Agenda 21 is a UN plan for sustainable development, not taking people’s property.)

Ask her who would do these beheadings? Ask her to compare the number of beheadings last year to the number of gun deaths last year and get back with you.

An Alex Jones acolyte?

I served on the USS America (CV-66) with a Syrian refugee to the US from the Golan Heights area who’s family fled to the US after the 1967 Arab-Israeli War. We worked together on the same equipment for an entire work-up period and cruise.

Absolutely loyal to the USA, uninterested in beheading anyone.

As a matter of fact, every Muslim I have met is mostly scared of wingnuts with guns.

On the other hand, Christians like Robert Dear and Eric Rudolph scare me.

Kevin Swanson and Gordon Kligenschmidtt scare me (they both want atheists killed). George HW Bush when I was in the Navy scared me (saying atheists could not be patriotic nor should be citizens).

The thing in common with all those guys, both the Christian theocrats and Muslim extremists: They are conservatives.

Conservatism scares me far more than some theoretical chance of being beheaded being smaller than being struck by lightning in the same place twenty times in a row.

Is she scared of air crashes as a passenger too? (Commercial air travel is the safest method of travel).

In seventeen years in the military I never faced a gun once. I never faced an axe or sword for a beheading either.

Donald the fascist talking yam would have no problem putting people up against a wall with a firing squad. If she lived in Tunisia and Morocco (I have been to both nations) she should be aware that a strong military presence in the civilian population is the cause of abuse by the government. That is why Tunisia used to be abusive and Morocco still is to a degree.

I have faced a gun in civilian life.

I once had a roommate who I stumbled upon (in the basement after hearing a loud noise there), who had a .22 rifle pointed under his throat. He was mulling suicide.

When I came upon him, he swung the rifle around and pointed it at my chest; for the next forty-five minutes I spent a lot of wind trying to talk him down from the mountain.

He eventually broke down, and handed over the rifle. I ejected the cartridges and called an ambulance.

Never faced a beheading though.

Libertarianism is like a lot of political theories; when the rubber hits the road it has real problems. Those rugged Galt’s Gulch individuals work great until a group with bigger or more guns comes along.
.

During the Argentinian collapse, people who tried to run off and form their own Galt’s Gulch style compounds were usually found dead or with the compound empty; order was first restored in the cities due to collective effort and governmental action.

Well, hopefully she will not be gripped by fear forever, and perhaps she did have some sort of experience in Tunisia or Morocco that was a horrible personal evil. I was not there; I cannot say.

It sounds more like Alex Jones stuff, though. Similar to “The Brainwashing of My Dad,” a person susceptible to propaganda can be led to believe almost anything if they don’t critically think about it (citizens of Nazi Germany, the Milgram Experiment, &c)

A fictional version with built-in excuses to any evidence showing it is fictional. Like, last night, I had a heated chat exchange with a guy who called me a liar despite me presenting the source document for the claim of 55 “muslim no-go zones” in Sweden (which, BTW, does not mention muslims once), claimed it was propaganda.

I sometimes toy with the idea of treating them outright like I would treat someone with a psychosis, but still have to figure out how to do it in a way which makes them question themselves enough to register.

The fellow who set up such a place in Chile with government approval took in millions of dollars of investment to create a community of like minded individuals. Turned out to be a giant scam and fraud.

All of a sudden the libertarians who invested in the place wanted the Chilean government to go in and bust the guy and get their money back (so far, Chile has been dragging its feet, pointing out they didn’t want big government running their business).

Libertarianism is a religion (I use that line frequently with my wife). Ayn Rand’s “The Fountainhead” and “Atlas Shrgged” are works of fiction. There is no reason to believe that a society based on Ms. Rand’s fictional works would work any better than those of Marion Zimmer Bradley’s “Darkover” series.

Exactly, I’m with you 100%. I can’t cite the quote very well off the top of my head, sadly, but there’s a quote roughly along the lines of that. Heavily paraphrased, again, off the top of my head, it’s something like this: “There were two books I read growing up as a child: Atlas Shrugged and The Lord of the Rings. One of them is a fantasy novel that grown adults stick to and worship, causing childish minds to grow up stunted and confused about how the world works. The other one features orcs.”

Someone who is psychotic doesn’t realize they are psychotic, so reasoning with them is usually fruitless. It’s best to kind of play along and try to get them to see the contradictions in their own logic, such as it is, and maybe get them to calm down.

People who believe in CTs are pre-disposed (I think) to accept convoluted, arcane explanations for things that have much simpler explanations grounded in reality, because (I think) they are borderline paranoid delusional, if not all the way, or have some real personal insecurities.

Example CT:
The Moon landings were faked. All the photography occurred on the Earth, in studios, despite the complete lack of suitable special effects then available in Hollywood or anywhere else. Hundreds of scientists, engineers and actor/astronauts managed to keep the entire put-up job a secret from the American public, and Soviet espionage was unable to crack the veil of secrecy.

De nada.

As for our deluded friend on Twitter, perhaps asking her for evidence from reliable sources about these Muslim “no-go” zones in Sweden (like the Swedish government or the cities claimed to have these zones).

Now that London and Dearborn Michigan have Muslim mayors, do they have no-go zones? Ask for evidence (not conservaderp Websites like Fascist Republic). Credible sources.

Note The Economist (a respected UK conservative financial magazine) long ago debunked the idea that Birmingham England had such zones, and FOX News Channel was roundly mocked around the world for making such claims (thanks for humiliating the USA again in the world, FOX).

If she has evidence of such a claim (Sweden had Muslim no-go zones, which would be a surprise to my many European friends), she should be able to present something other than her opinion on the matter.

Has she been to Sweden? I have. Didn’t see any no-go zones.

And tens of thousands of people involved in such conspiracy theories would all work together to keep the CT secret, despite the lure of money and fame that would accrue if they presented a shred of evidence there was a conspiracy.

It’s sort of like the US government: Conservatives are convinced President Obama is leading some sort of conspiracy against the US Constitution or the American people, which would involve tens of thousands (hundreds of thousands?) of people to keep it going, and not a single one will crack. The loyalty to such a theory is astounding, to the point of unbelievablity. At the same time the government is allegedly so incompetent the President can’t tie his shoes in the morning. They both can’t be true at the same time (but they can both be wrong).

Likewise with 9/11 CT derp. The Bush Administration was supposedly such a crack conspiratorial team it could enlist the tens of thousands of people involved to pull off such a “false flag” attack, yet not a single one has succumbed to fame or money to come forward with damning evidence.

There have been real conspiracies in the past. Conspiracies only involve a handful of people. The more people involved, the more likely the conspiracy is exposed.

The idea there are Muslim no-go zones in Birmingham England, Dearborn Michigan, or anywhere in Sweden would have to involve such massive government coverups that they are incredulous.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

She has little choice, the petition was circulated by a wingnut lawyer and if the required signatures were gathered then it has to go on the ballot.

That said, it would be instantly unconstitutional. The lawyer in question is as crazy as Gordon Kligenschmidtt. The difference here is Mr. Klingenschmidtt funnelled his lies about why he was fired from the Navy into a career as a Colorado politician by finding enough wingnuts to vote for him.

There is no way we can expect individuals and families with limited resources and incomes to be able to negotiate on a level playing field for terms of employment, insurance or financial services with multi-billion-dollar, international corporations.

Corporations that only exist because GOVERMENT has intervened and created legislation allowing limited liability for shareholders…

Thanks for that. Though I know generally of the reasons for the party shift (and President Reagan’s shameless candidacy announcement in Philadelphia, Mississippi), Vicious Babushka put it all in one place.

As Senator Goldwater put it on the Senate floor in 1981:

I must make it clear that I don’t condemn these groups for what they believe. I happen to share many of the values emphasized by these organizations.
I’m frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in “A,” “B,” “C” and “D.” Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me?

And I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of “conservatism.” … This unrelenting obsession with a particular goal destroys the perspective of many decent people. They have become easy prey to manipulation and misjudgment.

Goldwater’s wife served on the board of Planned Parenthood in Phoenix. President Reagan signed an order banning open carry in California, and granted the largest “amnesty” in American history.

They would be RINOs today, if wingnuts read history books (they are filled with liberal bias though).

People can also interpret things weirdly. A few years ago, a friend told her landlady that she’d be meeting me in my Hamburg neighborhood, and the landlady panicked - “it’s full of THOSE people, and dangerous!” And by those people she meant Turkish people, of course. Which it’s not, really. It’s a working/middle-class neighborhood that’s yuppifying crazy fast. And I, a middle-aged white woman, have walked around it at all hours of the night, in varying states of intoxication, perfectly safely.*

But if she spoke to an American friend about my neighborhood, that friend might well think it’s a no-go zone. Which is hysterically funny, really.

*There are parts of Hamburg I would not necessarily walk alone at night in. Not because of the Turkish population, though they are more represented there, but because of the purported Russian gangsters. Which for all I know are another myth.

Ahhhhh, poor Gretchen Carlson, that’s what you get for using that book learning on Fox News:

Fox News host Gretchen Carlson on Wednesday doubled down on her support for a ban on assault weapons after receiving a flood of insults responding to her remarks about the issue on Tuesday.

“Yesterday I startled many and pleased tons of others by saying I believe the assault weapons in this county, the ban should be reinstated,” she said on her Fox News show.

Carlson shared a few of the insults she received on social media calling her “stupid” and “anti American.”

I’ve been saying this since the beginning. I’m a DV/rape survivor. Trump creeps me out just as an automatic reaction. It took me a bit to figure out why and one afternoon, watching some crap about him, it was overwhelming, so much so I turned the TV off and started shaking. He is a classic controlling psychopath. Someone who has no conscience, will lie about anything even with the proof of the lie in front of him and someone so thin skinned that he simply has to get back at the tiniest percieved slight. If I could bet money, I bet his temper goes completely out of control behind closed doors. He’s a bully, with money to insulate him from the consequences. He’s what you get when you raise a child and never tell them no. Other people exist only to serve his purposes, if he has no use for you, you are subhuman.

He can’t be allowed anywhere near The White House. Even for brunch.

Nope. And what scares me even more than he does? His supporters. Many of whom share the same traits I’m sure. He’s inciting violence too, and when they lose this election, look for an uptick in domestic terrorism. It’s coming. I hate saying that or even writing it. But Trump is doing the classic “hey, let’s you and him fight” thing that bullies do while not a hair on his stupid hairdo gets moved out of place. He’s dangerous. He seems to think President means he’s a CEO and everyone has to do what he says. He has no idea how government works beyond paying off politicians.

What really freaks me out is the kids my son’s age (early 20s) who are being sold the same recycled Clinton shit from the 90’s. “Hillary got a rapist cleared of charges as his lawyer and laughed about it. Greets and saluts from the nation where the NRA considers any and all attempts to provide safety and take the Constitutional obligation by Congress to provide for the general welfare as an affront to their absolute right to own absolutely any gun they damn well want.

Semi autos? AR-15s? Yeah, they serve no purpose except to kill people. If you’re using them to hunt, you’re doing something wrong.

But the NRA owns the GOP, and that’s the least of the GOP problems these days.

With their sociopathic nominee spewing nonsensical ravings showing off his lunatic mind (and complete divestment from reality), GOPers are trying to find safe harbors.

Take John Kasich for instance:

“At this point…” That’s BS speak for - at some point I can back him. This is the position of a craven coward whose only interest is his own votes (and relying on the same voters who put Trump in position as nominee).

Craven cowards - the same GOPers who run from the cameras and refuse to talk about Trump.

Craven cowards - the same GOPers who refuse to stand up to the bigot brigade who nominated Trump because that would reveal that the GOP itself is the bigot brigade. You’d be standing up to the very voters who elected each and every one of these GOPers currently in Congress.

And their silence is assent to Trump’s agenda. Make no mistake about any of it. This is the GOP. Trump’s style may rub people the wrong way, but the policies are totally in line with GOP doctrine.

Oppose SSM? Trump would nominate judges who’d overturn Obergefell and eliminate SSM (some friend to the LGBT community heh!?).

Take the nativism/isolationism? Yeah, that’s a core GOP principle too. Because it plays up the fear/anger among the GOP’s most consistent voters - older white guys who are watching their rights being shared with everyone else, and they hate government for that - they liked the privilege they had.

So, it’s not a surprise then that Trump wants to create his own network to give “these people” a voice. I suggest he go with TWNN - Trump White Nationalist Network. Because that’s who he’s speaking loudest for.

I’ve thought for months (and said as much) that Trump doesn’t want to be President. I don’t even think he wanted to be the nominee…it was just so much fun taking down Bush and Santorum and Graham and Fiorina and the rest of those assholes—and so easy—that he couldn’t bow out.

Now he’s doing everything he can to prod the GOP into dumping him at the convention to save the party…but he misunderestimated their stupidity and lack of foresight. Now he’s stuck with them.

And Hillary? She’s basically running unopposed now. She could start campaigning for down-ticket Dems tomorrow and ignore Trump at this point and probably still coast to election.

About Trump’s polls, I was afraid last weekend in Orlando would be a boost for him. Not only is that not happening, but I’m seeing tweets (from actual professional pundits and writers) about Donald possibly quitting or there being a coup at the GOP convention against the presumptive nominee.

Other tweets push back against the likelihood of either, but it’s remarkable the way things have turned this week.

Shitheel is a shitheel wherever he’s spotted. It’s almost like it’s pathological. But sure, let’s give him firearms license, let him be a security guard, and oh, you have those? Here’s the guns you want. Oh, you want that matte-black AR-15 lookalike? Yeah, no problem. Your papers seem in order.

The problem isn’t the paperwork or even the background checks in this instance. It’s the availability of an entire class of guns that serve no purpose except to shoot a herd of deer. Wait. I meant a nightclub full of people, not a herd of deer.

Background checks and loophole closing can reduce certain firearms incidents. Eliminating sales of AR-15-type weapons can reduce others.

It’s the sum of the actions over time - just because a single mass shooting isn’t prevented by gun regulation X doesn’t mean that the regulation is irrelevant. It can prevent other less newsworthy incidents, like the daily drone of death and carnage from single homicides and countless suicides every single day.

As suspected in our discussion about Disney World and ‘gators yesterday.

Expect lawsuits. I can’t believe they didn’t warn of the presence of alligators. Maybe they didn’t want to scare people to spoil the vacation experience and ambiance.

What is more scary than your two-year old getting carried off by a ‘gator?

Metro- UK -Disney lagoon where boy, 2, died didn’t warn about alligators

Questions are being raised over why Disney World didn’t display signs warning of alligators at a hotel where a boy was dragged to his death.
Lane Graves was pulled under water at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa on Tuesday night.

Despite sightings of alligators in the water, a sign on the waters edge only appears to warn of deep water, a steep drop and tells people not to swim.

Lane was dragged into the lagoon by the alligator while paddling with his mother.

Neighbouring hotels do have alligator warning signs.

Walt Disney World has been approached for comment, but yesterday it announced that all its beaches would be closed as a precaution.

- CUT -

Interesting that Brit papers/web sites have the story going. No US reports about lack of warning, yet. This is going to be interesting to see how Disney works around this one.

Curses, PAYWALLED AGAIN!

To get the full effect, I’d have to copy the full thing, but here’s part:

Approximately a dozen of us, wearing our kippot, or yarmulkes, went down as soon as the holiday ended. Some of the members of our group are gay, but most are not. We did not know what to expect. As we gathered outside, we saw one large, drunk man talking loudly and wildly. I wondered whether we were in the right place. Then my mother, who was with me, went up to a man who was standing on the side of the building. She told him why we were there. He broke down in tears and told us his cousin was killed at Pulse. He embraced us and invited us into the Fireplace.

We didn’t know what to expect, but it turned out that we had so much in common. We met everyone in the bar. One of the patrons told me that his stepchildren were actually bar-mitzvahed in our congregation. Another one asked for my card so that his church could come and visit. The bartender shut off all of the music in the room, and the crowd became silent as we offered words of prayer and healing. My co-clergy Maharat Ruth Friedman shared a blessing related to the holiday of Shavuot, and she lit memorial candles on the bar ledge. Then everyone in the bar put their hands around each other’s shoulders, and we sang soulful tunes. After that, one of our congregants bought a round of beer for the whole bar.

Update on the attack on British MP, Jo Cox:

“Police investigating reports suspect shouted ‘Britain First’

Police are also investigating reports the suspect shouted “Britain First”, a possible reference to the far-right political party, as he launched the attack, Vikram Dodd, Nazia Paveen and Rob Booth report.

Graeme Howard, 38, who lives in nearby Bond Street, told the Guardian he heard the man shout “Britain First” before the shooting and during the arrest.

Police were understood to be talking to at least one witness who claimed to have heard the attacker shout words about the right-wing group, and the motivation for the incident will form part of their inquiry

“I heard the shot and I ran outside and saw some ladies from the cafe running out with towels,” he said. “There was loads of screaming and shouting and the police officers showed up.

“He was shouting Britain First when he was doing it and being arrested. He was pinned down by two police officers and she was taken away in an ambulance.”

Good god, some of us have no time to concern ourselves with bad 1980’s movies…

I expect that BB cannot get his head around the notion that somebody does not know the film.

Boy, great news to wake up to. My only fear now is that Trump “Bottoms Out” too early. Of course, I love that he was pledged to call 20 top donors, called 3 then quit. I guess he doesn’t like being the one who isn’t pulling all the strings.

Of course, when you compare the size of Clinton and Trumps campaign staff, it’s clear that Trump is way ahead in the all important “Positive Rating Per Staff Member” Metric. Unskew the polls.!!!!!!

Off to open up the shop and get ready for a mongo huge delivery we’re expecting today.

I emailed Target the other day to congratulate their employees on defending a young breast feeding mother and baby from a vile wretch of a man, and to say thanks for their transgender stand. They got back to me.

Hello

Thanks so much for your compliment! I understand you want to thank our Team member who protected a young mother breastfeeding her baby. I appreciate the time you’ve taken to bring this to our attention so we could recognize the Torrington- employees for their outstanding service.
We want Target to be your favorite shopping destination, so we’re always working to make our site fun and easy to use. It’s great to hear the hard work is paying off!
I’ve shared your comments with our leadership team and I hope you’ll always find something you love at Target.
Sincerely,
Malcolm

We need to have a long national discussion about the fact that secondary sexual characteristics are not necessarily always sexual in nature and that sexuality is not always connected with immorality.

But that would get a lot of people rather hot under the collar…

As opposed to people like Scott Lively who exported the notion of imposing the death penalty for being gay. Lively, who is American and Christian.

And whose fellow Christian extremists are more than willing to call for death to gays.

The end-game of the Trump long con takes shape: Trump may start a TV network.

From the article:

“He has, according to one of these people, enlisted the consultation of his daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who owns the The New York Observer. Trump’s rationale, according to this person, is that, ‘win or lose, we are onto something here. We’ve triggered a base of the population that hasn’t had a voice in a long time.’”

I think Glenn Beck gave them a voice a long time ago. Then did Alex Jones, Weiner, Savage, et al. And let’s not forget Rush and Fox…oldies but goodies for the raging right.

So, Trump is Brock Turner all grown up without society intervening.
