Trump’s Post-Election Scam Revealed: “Trump TV”

A channel where white racist cavemen can really find their voice
Politics • Views: 47,478

Vanity Fair’s Sarah Ellison reports that Donald Trump has already figured out what he’ll do after losing the presidential election: Is Donald Trump’s Endgame the Launch of Trump News?

Trump is indeed considering creating his own media business, built on the audience that has supported him thus far in his bid to become the next president of the United States. According to several people briefed on the discussions, the presumptive Republican nominee is examining the opportunity presented by the “audience” currently supporting him. He has also discussed the possibility of launching a “mini-media conglomerate” outside of his existing TV-production business, Trump Productions LLC. He has, according to one of these people, enlisted the consultation of his daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who owns the The New York Observer. Trump’s rationale, according to this person, is that, “win or lose, we are onto something here. We’ve triggered a base of the population that hasn’t had a voice in a long time.” For his part, Kushner was heard at a New York dinner party saying that “the people here don’t understand what I’m seeing. You go to these arenas and people go crazy for him.” (Both Kushner and Ivanka Trump did not respond to a request for comment.)

Trump, this person close to the matter suggests, has become irked by his ability to create revenue for other media organizations without being able to take a cut himself. Such a situation “brings him to the conclusion that he has the business acumen and the ratings for his own network.” Trump has “gotten the bug,” according to this person. “So now he wants to figure out if he can monetize it.”

He’s denying it, but that means less than nothing. Maybe he could call it ARN - the Alt-Right Network, featuring commentary by leading lights of the conservative movement such as David Duke and Jim Hoft.

He is now the brand with the highest recognition rate in all the world…he can do with it whatever he wants. Except tell the truth.

Maybe Rage Furby wants a job there, which explains why he dumped Cruz and went all in for Trump a few months ago.

Is he really? I’d have to think there’s still a handful of brands with better recognition - Coca-Cola, Levi’s, Disney - and definitely with better favorability ratings.

He is certainly right up there with all those brands…and for Trump, positive or negative is irrelevant, only recognition counts. He would rather be reviled than irrelevant.

But seriously, I encourage The Donald to set up a television news network so toxically racist and right-wing that no business will air it in their public spaces. Fox will lose their purpose and their public mindshare, Trump is an old man anyway, and maybe we can all go back to laughing at the talking heads on ESPN.

wheat-dogghazi-mailgate  Jun 16, 2016 • 8:58:44am

Let’s see, Trump has already:

* started a branded steak company, which failed.
* started a branded water company, which failed.
* started a branded vodka line, which failed.
* opened branded casinos in Atlantic City, which failed.

So how well do we think Trump TV will do? The market is already saturated, unless he intends to attract only the knuckledragger, angry-all-the-time demographic.

So, I’m now on driving restrictions due to seizures, (very rare, and controlled by medication…as long as I’m taking them, I missed one…and woke up in the hospital).

Now we’ve just added anti-depressants to the mix. These terrify me. “Supposed to treat depression, but they MAY make you suicidal”, umm…

And NOW, I’ve just concluded that my manager isn’t just wound a bit too tight, but is actually delusional, I mean that literally. And by “wound a bit too tight”, I mean, I was watching our new training video about “active shooters”, and taking notes.

In lighter news, you know how we jokingly refer to gun magazines as porn for gun nuts? I found one of those magazines on the men’s room floor…I carefully picked that up for disposal, just in case they actually used it as porn.

Not sure what’s scaring Ryan the most: the prospect of a President Trump, or the prospect of a President (Hillary) Clinton?

But I guess since the GOP is usually anxious to return the US to a Nineteenth-Century economy, the must think we need a Nineteenth-Century political structure to go with it.

(And Paul Ryan can grow his beard back to be in style…)

The usual suspects at freeperland and other RWNJ cesspools have picked up the Jo Cox story. Their take, naturally, is that it represents the failure and therefore utter uselessness of gun control, since the UK’s rigid gun laws failed to prevent it.
Proportionality, like cause and effect, is a difficult concept for these people.
A shooting on a public street, with anyone as the victim, is an extraordinary and shocking event in the UK. It rates national news, and intensive coverage, regardless of the circumstances, or of the status of those involved.
In this country, it is so common that it makes the news only if the circumstances are so unusual, or the victim so prominent, that it stands out from the other two hundred or so shootings that took place the same day. In the US, a significant percentage of people my age (67) have witnessed a shooting at some point in their lives and there are actually millions who have survived gunshot wounds (100,000+, year after year). Only a handful of Britons the same age have done so.
(Fwiw, as I described here back in 2011, I was the victim in the only civilian shooting I have ever witnessed, and it was an accident. It hurt a hell of a lot though and could easily have been fatal. There was also the irony of spending a year being shot at in Vietnam, without a scratch, and then nearly buying it in my own front yard. It did not even make the local news)

Here’s another performance. I’m still looking for a complete video of their inauguration performance — the one that got Beijing’s nose bent out of shape.

And never mind that she was both shot and stabbed - as if the shooting wasn’t sufficient.

It’s indeed a rarity in the UK to hear about shootings of this kind.

In the US, the shooter would have had access to pretty much any gun to their heart’s desire, and Rep. Giffords was nearly assassinated and Congress didn’t so much as lift a finger to address the availability of guns, or to close any of the loopholes, or strength any of the laws that might have reduced the chances of a shooting like that. They didn’t eliminate the sale of high capacity magazines either.

“If Donald Trump is the nominee, I would vote for Hillary Clinton,” Armitage, who served as a deputy secretary of State under Bush and as an assistant secretary of Defense under Reagan, told Politico on Thursday.

“He doesn’t appear to be a Republican. He doesn’t appear to want to learn about the issues. So I’m going to vote for Mrs. Clinton.”

Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page takes the stand: I didn’t steal that ‘Stairway to Heaven’ guitar riff

The estate of Spirit’s late guitarist, Randy Wolfe, also known as Randy California, contends the famous descending-chord progression that softly begins the crescendo-building Stairway was lifted from Wolfe’s Taurus, which was released a few years earlier.

Led Zeppelin has settled several similar copyright disputes over hit songs, though Stairway to Heaven has generated hundreds of millions of dollars over the years and could provide a windfall if Wolfe’s estate prevails.

Page claimed he didn’t even know he owned Spirit’s self-titled first album until a son-in-law told him comparisons between the tunes were popping up online and he unearthed it in his collection of 10,000 records and CDs. He said he only knew Fresh Garbage from hearing it on the radio.

Here is the song in question (4,637,983 views):

I know.

I just have to hold on to the goodness. My kid has been posting all kinds of anti-homophobic stuff and links to help for the victims in Orlando. He’s ranted about how stupid homophobia is (one of his local metal musician friends is an out gay kid, who called my son when he and his boyfriend split up after 2 years, and my kid just sat and listened and offered our home as an escape hatch), called out others for using the word “faggot” and has offered to be there for anyone hurting over this. I am proud as hell of him. Even though right now he’s annoying the shit out of me for being super lazy around the house. But he’s not alone, a LOT of his friends are pissed about this whole thing, and I’m seeing them call out the hatred.

This hatred does get passed along, generation to generation, but I think it dies a little more each round. I see other of my son’s peers being stupid right wingers, but they haven’t grown up and broken away from their parents yet either. All we can do is encourage the kids headed down the better road and support them as they work to clean up the mess they are inheriting.

* started a branded water company, which failed.

* opened branded casinos in Atlantic City, which failed.

So how well do we think Trump TV will do? The market is already saturated, unless he intends to attract only the knuckledragger, angry-all-the-time demographic.

This will be All Trump All The Time exceeding Kim Jong-Un levels of aggrandizement and deification.

We’ll be finding out a lot more about the suspect in the Jo Cox shooting, in particular how he got his weapon. Witnesses describe it as an “old fashioned looking” or “hand-made looking” handgun. Since he fired two shots with it, a revolver rather than something more crude seems likely.
I hope to fuck he wasn’t an American, though that seems very unlikely given his reported use of nationalist slogans.

The Guardian has already identified the suspect as Thomas Mair, a local handyman

Neighbours on the Fieldhead council estate said the suspect had lived here 40 years with a female relative, who died a number of years ago, leaving him alone.

Kathleen Cooke, 62, said she and her daughter, Emma John, 30, had seen Mair half an hour before the attack.

“I looked out of the window at about 12.30 and he walked past a carrying his bag, wearing a cap. He looked perfectly calm and normal,” said John. “He was a quiet person, kept himself to himself. We knew him around here from when he used to do our gardens,” said Cooke.

One woman, who gave her name just as Karen, said Mair did her mother’s garden regularly until a few years ago. He didn’t seem to have a job, she said.

Local teenagers said he was a quiet man unless they congregated on the wall behind his house, which he didn’t like. “He’d shout at us,” said a 17-year-old. “All this we are hearing now is totally at odds with the man we thought we knew,” said one neighbour. “We knew him as someone who helped out, who did volunteering.”

Bingo. And that doesn’t even cover it all honestly. I wouldn’t even throw a Hitler analogy into this. It’s more like the build up to the genocide in Rwanda. The “Othering” of neighbors and community members, we’ve already heard pundits refer to people as scum, thugs and cockroaches. Selling lies about gay people being pedophiles, immigrants being rapists and drug dealers, and there have been call for and praises of the deaths of those “Others”. It CAN happen here, it is happening, just not on the massive scale Rwanda experienced. Doesn’t make this shit any less dangerous.

Except for the fact that LZ toured with Spirit in 1968 - and the liner notes for the first Spirit album (written by Randy Wolfe) actually mention that Page had taken quite an interest in the song ‘Taurus.’

Gun Shop Owner: AR-15’s Flying Off Shelves at $500 a Pop

Since the Orlando nightclub shooting on Sunday, gun sales have rapidly increased throughout the United States.

Adventure Outdoors Owner Jay Wallace told Fox Business Network’s Stuart Varney that sales of AR-15s and other firearms have “really kicked up” since Sunday

[…]

“[People] are afraid that the government is going to take [guns] away and there are folks that are in fear because of the times that we are living in today and those are two big reasons,” he said.

Spirit played some gigs with Zep and I had always heard California and Page did some jamming together during those days. And since Page and Plant were good at nicking riffs and lines of many a song I’m would not be surprised if this wasn’t another instance.

But you know what makes me sad…I’ve been hearing crap around about “who the hell was Spirit…a bunch of bums” and the like.

I was and still am a huge Spirit fan. To me 12 Dreams of Doctor Sardonicus is still one of the great albums of my youth. They were very early adding jazz and world rhythms to rock music. Long live Spirit!

Spirit were prototypical rock stars - hell, Hendrix cited Randy as his favorite guitarist.

They were there before Zeppelin. And they were a hell of a band.

It is completely amazing how much we rely on electricity and how little we think about it until we don’t have it.

I went through that a few years ago….the thought process of “if we ever have an incident where we lose power for an extended period of time, I will likely die.” I can hunt, but don’t like it. I know how to start a fire. But I live where it’s really cold. I do not know how to sustain my life if I was thrown back into the stone age.

I think we’re going to need more twitterbots between now and November.

But on Wednesday, a few ardent Trump supporters were bested by one man from Kentucky, and his own Twitter bot, “@AssBott.” According to the Daily Beast, @AssBott is programmed to respond automatically every time Donald Trump tweets, and lately, its handlers have chosen to lead with the Clinton-coined “Delete Your Account.” Its replies are pre-programmed so they appear instantaneously, and often right under the original tweet.

On Tuesday, @AssBott responded to a Trump tweet about LGBT rights with its patented “Delete Your Account,” and attracted loads of Trump’s followers. Thanks to their tenacity and apparent inability to recognize a robot when they see one, the Trump followers argued with @AssBott “well into Tuesday night.”

Non-Trump tweeters end up getting random word salad responses that pull words from the tweeter’s prior posts (I think).

Garrison Keillor weighs in on Trump: The Punk Who Would Be President

It is the most famous ducktail in America today, the hairdo of wayward youth of a bygone era, and it’s astonishing to imagine it under the spotlight in Cleveland, being cheered by Republican dignitaries. The class hood, the bully and braggart, the guy revving his pink Chevy to make the pipes rumble, presiding over the student council. This is the C-minus guy who sat behind you in history and poked you with his pencil and smirked when you asked him to stop. That smirk is now on every front page in America. It is not what anybody — left, right or center — looks for in a president. There’s no philosophy here, just an attitude.

He is a little old for a ducktail. By the age of 70, most ducks have moved on, but not Donald. He is apparently still fond of the sidewalls and the duck’s ass in back and he is proud as can be of his great feat, the first punk candidate to get this close to the White House. He says that the country is run by a bunch of clowns and that he is going to make things great again and beat up on the outsiders who are coming into our neighborhood. His followers don’t necessarily believe that — what they love about him is what kids loved about Johnny Rotten and Sid Vicious, the fact that he horrifies the powers that be and when you are pro-duck you are giving the finger to Congress, the press, clergy, lawyers, teachers, cake-eaters, big muckety-mucks, VIPs, all those people who think they’re better than you — you have the power to scare the pants off them, and that’s what this candidate does better than anybody else.

I’m thinking of starting to call Trump ‘Duck’s Ass’ after reading this.

Well, there you go! Randy California stole it from Dylan/Hendrix when he lived in Queens and jammed with Hendrix. Heh.

By the way Randy Wolfe became Randy California from Jimi Hendrix jamming with him while also having another friend named Randy. So one was Randy Texas and the other Randy California to keep the names straight.

Sadly California died saving his son from a rip tide in Hawaii. His son made it back to the beach…Randy did not. : (

Canada has 3x as many Muslims per capita as US but few mass killings. Got that Islamophobes?

The stat that I encountered was that in 2015 Muslims make up slightly less than 1% of the US population and were responsible for….slightly less than 1% of all mass shootings in the USA.

In other words, no better or worse than any other minority or majority group…

Threatening graffiti in a Humana bathroom referenced the recent mass shooting in Orlando and gay pride festivities in Louisville this weekend, according to law enforcement and company sources. In response, Humana has stepped up security, and federal and local authorities are investigating.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the company are tight-lipped about the nature of the threat. However, a Humana employee told Insider Louisville that “it was a threatening message that was rumored to contain a date and time as well as referencing the Orlando shooting.”

John E. Kuhn, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Kentucky, also told Wave 3 News that the graffiti referenced gay pride festivities this weekend.

Am I wrong in thinking that “Country First” really doesn’t make you a very good citizen or person at all? Shouldn’t your family, friendships and community come before? My thinking is that without those, the country really isn’t ,going to hold up well at all. What we’re seeing right now is a decay in communities all over the country. It’s been rare, until very recently, to even make new neighborhoods “walkable”, where there are sidewalks and gathering places close by so you can walk around and get to know your neighbors. In the past that was the norm and then it went out of fashion. Seeds of distrust and fear keep being sown by this “country first” stuff, it’s usually said out of a sense of “MY country first, what I think it is, MY definition, and that ONLY includes people just like me, everyone else isn’t part of the club”. Which makes you a shitty citizen and lousy ass neighbor.

Milo Yiannopolous admits he hates himself:

While his campus talks have provoked a fair amount of attention among both students and popular media, Yiannopoulos is not a serious thinker who actually wants to engage in honest, rational debate about ideas. Nor is he a laudable champion of the First Amendment, as some people mistakenly believe. And, despite his assurances otherwise, his work reveals a chronic inability to play by the intellectual rules of basic epistemology. Even more, I’m not even convinced that he believes in some of what he says, such as when he told Dave Rubin that Trump is “one of the smartest people in the country, you know? He’s so clever.” (Given the fact that Trump literally talks at a fourth-grade level, this statement appears dubious.) After all, Yiannopoulos once admitted that his “natural disposition is a satirist and a comic. I like to entertain and to please people.” He then added, “I didn’t like me very much and so I created this comedy character. And now they’ve converged.” So, it’s not clear that Yiannopoulos even intends to be a serious thinker or social critic. He might be pulling off a less clever Andy Kauffman-like prank on both his dissenters and fans. Indeed, when The New York Times asked Yiannopoulos, “If you succeed at your goal and everyone is able to say whatever they want [although this is not what he wants, as established above], what happens next?” he answered, “I might have to become a social-justice warrior ‘cause I’ll be out of a job.”

Any one gun regulation or change by itself wont solve all gun crimes. It wont stop all mass shootings. It wont stop all suicides. It wont stop all drive-by shootings or all domestic violence shootings.

No single law could (short of repealing the 2A and confiscating all firearms, which will never happen).

So, each regulation can reduce the chances some future firearms incident occurs. Reduce the chances some gunman is able to buy a high capacity magazine enabling them to kill 15 people in a matter of seconds.

Reduce the chances that someone who is mentally ill is able to buy a guy that they use to commit suicide.

Reduce the chances that someone who is violent towards their domestic partner/family member has a firearm to use.

Reduce the chances that someone who is on a terror watch list or some iteration of a no-fly zone is able to obtain a gun.

Reduce the chances that someone is able to engage in straw purchases w/o a background check, and then carries out a homicide or commits suicide.

Each one by themselves is a tiny slice of all firearms incidents, but together, they can reduce firearms injuries and fatalities.

That’s what we need. The NRA/GOP refuses to do anything about any of it.

Well that’ll fix everything.

I propose legislation that you have to take a college level FUCKING CIVICS TEST before you can run for any office. And this shit of indirectly calling President Obama a traitor is just whipping more people into a hateful and violent frenzy. Blood is on his pasty white hands just as much as anyone else’s.

I’ve never been to college. I hold a public office (village trustee) as a Democrat in deeply red Nebraska. Wanna throw me out of office? (On the other hand, I understand civics and the Constitution.)

Nope, no education tests; goes back to the Jim Crow era where I went to segregated schools in K and 1st grades.

Precisely a month ago today, Sen. Marco Rubio wrote that on Twitter, one in a burst of sarcastic missives about speculation over his future.

On Wednesday, Rubio disclosed he’s reconsidering private citizenship. He may now run for a second term, citing the Orlando massacre and the urging of his friend, Carlos Lopez-Cantera.

But, for me personally, I think the level of the job ought to require some level of education and experience that coincides with the job. For example, Justice of the Peace. I’ve seen 18 year olds get elected. I think you ought to prove you know what the job requires before you run for it.

Polling has very high undecided results (the last one was at 49% undecided with Carlos Beruff leading at 17% - he’s one of the also rans, for what it’s worth).

So, what are the odds that Donald Trump becomes the 21st century’s John Birch? It’s got to be somewhere around 5:2, right?

John Birch was a graduate of the University I attended some 20 years later, and it was generally accepted by the university Christianity Department, that Birch had been a very conservative evangelical.

As you may well know, Birch served as a missionary to China and was killed by communist forces. US missionaries acting as US government intelligence agents was common practice.

Since Birch never lived to see the formation of the John Birch Society, I’m sure Trump would rather skip that step incorporating the Don Trump Society.

Conservative College-Level Civics Test Sample Questions:

1) The II Amendment was adopted for which purpose?

a. To overthrow a tyrannical government
b. To prevent home invasions with Sig Sauer or AR-15 rifles
c. To highlight the need for “well-maintained ” firearms
d. All of them Katie

2) Which amendment to the Constitution was considered by the Framers to be most important, trumping Article 1, Section 8, Clause 15?

a) First
b) Second
c) Third
d) Fourth

3) Write a three-hundred word essay on why the II Amendment is the bulwark against tyranny.

4) Is there a clause in the main body of the Constitution that says an African-American can be President?

a) Yes
b) No

5) Does the Constitution have direct language that permits abortion?

a) Yes
b) No

Nope, don’t want conservatives writing civics tests to run for office. I don’t want anyone doing it. I would rather expose fools running publicly (as Donald Trump is being exposed now).

If you can write a test and claim “necessity to hold office,” then the only things that matter is who writes them and who scores them.

McCain’s scared shitless. For the first time in awhile, he’s actually having to fight for his seat from a position of weakness. Not only is his party’s nominee toxic, but he can’t even rely upon party faithfulness because said nominee took a massive shit on John’s biggest talking point of being a war hero to applause from the party base. Attacking a popular president in defense of that nominee isn’t going to do him a bit of good.

I wonder how many voters in the Mountain and Pacific time zones vote later in the day or in the evening? That sort of thing hasn’t happened since Reagan, I’m guessing, but McCain has to be worried that if at 5 pm in Arizona the networks are reporting that Clinton has won Pennsylvania, Virginia, and North Carolina, that potential voters are going to go to dinner rather than the polls, right?

In the words of Paul Krugman when explaining the modern Right’s mindset over a decade ago, “Government can’t do anything good because then people might not understand that government is bad, m’kay?”

The GOP only has one real policy objective, to redistribute wealth to billionaires. The government doing things costs money, money that could be sent to billionaires, so they don’t want government doing much of anything. The culture wars are necessary to get the rubes to vote for sending money to billionaires.

Seriously. What exactly qualified these folks to be president, when their ideology is to sit back and do nothing except let the corporate bigwigs profit at everyone else’s expense (which makes them virtually indistinguishable from the GOP).

As I watch the GOP go about their attempts to pin Orlando on the President or on Hillary, I find myself experiencing a bit of deja-vu. It’s like Benghazi all over again, this assurance by wingnuts that this will be the event that sinks Democrats, that Americans will be so disgusted by what happened that they’ll drop whatever reservations they have towards Republicans and willingly run into their arms. And that the way to facilitate this is to be as obnoxiously douchey as possible, going so far as to accuse the President of allowing the shooting to happen.

Just who the fuck do they think they’re fooling at this point? They’re not going to drive up the white vote by playing the same one-note song, but will drive down the minority vote further with their efforts to split it with Islamophobia.

Very much so. By this point, an enthusiastic endorsement of her would be totally insincere or at the very least interpreted as such. As I’ve seen a Vermont native note, Bernie has a history of trying to bully others into doing what he wants, getting repudiated, and then quietly sitting down and falling in line. He’ll concede and endorse, if only to keep his seat, but the degree of both will still largely rely upon his own ego. And since his ego has ballooned under the constant drumbeat of how much “better” a candidate he is than Clinton, he won’t do concede or endorse gracefully. He’ll go out just the way he’s acted for weeks now: As a spoiled child who doesn’t feel he did anything wrong.

The other day it occurred to me that ambiguity of the second amendment is most likely deliberate.

Had the founders wanted to make it clear that the only right present was a right to be armed as needed for militia service, that could easily have been done as well.

Instead the US ended up with the ambiguous mess that we have. This was not incompetence. I think it was deliberate. In particular, the founders would not have accepted a clear individual right to gun ownership because it could be regarded as applying to slaves. Ambiguous militia blather was put in there as reassurance against that possible interpretation, since slaves would most certainly not be in the militia, and free blacks could be (and were) excluded as well.

This is all speculation, of course, but it is interesting to note that all variants of the second amendment that were considered during the drafting of the bill of rights have this 2-part structure: militia blather + a operative clause giving “the people” the right to keep and bear arms.

The Second Amendment, like the Constitution and the rest of the Bill of Rights was the result of debate and compromise. There were actually several versions proposed. Madison’s original version in the House read:

The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; a well armed and well regulated militia being the best security of a free country but no person religiously scrupulous of bearing arms shall be compelled to render military service in person

After committee review a new House version read:

A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, being the best security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; but no person religiously scrupulous shall be compelled to bear arms

But after more debate the version sent to the Senate read:

A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, being the best security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; but no one religiously scrupulous of bearing arms shall be compelled to render military service in person.

The Senate struck the conscientious objector language and went with:

A well regulated militia, being the best security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

There were two more changes that got us to the version that was ratified. There were also issues of there being no standing army at the time of ratification and that fact that most of the framers had just fought a war of independence. Not to mention very different technologies available at the time.

Reading a bunch of British opinion sites, it seems to be the CW that if “Britain” leaves the EU, it’s going to prod the Scots to push for independence even sooner/harder - so that they can apply to re-join the EU as a sovereign nation.

The Scots have long experience with being “junior partners” - the thrill wore off a few centuries ago…

“The Witch” was pretty good, though you can’t go into it expecting a standard hack and slash horror movie. It’s subtitled “A New England Folktale” and that’s what it plays out like. Kind of slow burner but really well done.

“It Follows” was also very good but I think that came out last year. “What We Do In The Shadows” was an excellent little horror-comedy that hit last year as well. I really liked that one, lots of laughs.

Off the topic:

Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI) has had enough of the growing movement to drug test poor people who need government assistance. So on Tuesday, she’s introducing a bill that she says will make things fairer.

Her “Top 1% Accountability Act” would require anyone claiming itemized tax deductions of over $150,000 in a given year to submit a clean drug test. If a filer doesn’t submit a clean test within three months of filing, he won’t be able to take advantage of tax deductions like the mortgage interest deduction or health insurance tax breaks. Instead he would have to make use of the standard deduction.

I voted against Scottish independence a couple of years ago. So now I just have Enderman, my exceedingly large feline overlord:

He’s just huge, probably 16 or 17 lbs. I’ve had him on a diet for the last month or so which he hates. He wakes me up around 3AM every morning (about 3 hours early) because he thinks it’s time for me to feed him. Tuxedo Cat gets locked out when she is being particularly nettlesome. Whether or not Chat Noir gets locked out depends on where he is when I shut the door since he just climbs onto the bed or into a laundry basket and snoozes until morning.

(Got a bunch of Chat Noir pictures the other day since we went into a museum in Montmartre which used to be a house some of the artists lived and painted in. They had plaques showing some of the locations of certain paintings such as a swing that is in a Renoir. There is also a vineyard up there as well still. Trump doesn’t really want it, he’s not working for it, his negatives are so bad he is going to screw every GOPer running and I do not see the GOP allowing it. I just don’t.

The convention is going to be a shit show of epic proportions.

And if they do, they will have even more problems. First will be getting through the conflicts in the convention hall and the demonstrations that will occur outside.

Then their voters that wanted Trump will revolt this year and maybe the next couple of elections.

It will lead to a possible breakup of the party or a complete revamping of who is in the party. A lot of older ‘established’ Republicans will be gone.

Canned carrots are good too. Some of mine like peas, others not. Berries (blue, straw, rasp) are ok, as well (for dogs, check for cats). Anything to help fill them up. No onions, garlic. Google people food for cats.

Rather, Google people food BAD for cats.

I don’t think the GOP would dare try to replace Trump at the convention. The establishment may masturbate to fantasies about doing it, but they know they’d be alienating and driving a significant percentage of their base away permanently (or at least for many years).

For the most part, they’ll eat the shit sandwich this cycle trying to keep a smile on their face while publicly calling it a delicious roast beef treat.

Romney wasn’t crazy. Nor was Ryan. (assholes, yes, but not crazy) I think there is a big difference between trump and anyone else. Trump is dangerous. Sure, Palin was, too, but McCain was there and they figured they could control her. They know they cannot control trump.

I think they believe they’ll be able to control him. They think in terms of money and influence; Trump thinks in terms of ratings.

Never heard of that. I think I’ll try it. He’s very picky about his food though. Turns his nose up at the quality stuff I bought when I first got him and really prefers Friskies (i.e. crap food). Won’t touch canned food the times I tried that either.

We’ve got the only two cats in the world who don’t like tuna or tuna-flavored cat food—but when we pour tuna juice out of the can on the dog’s food (which she loves), they’ll lick it off.

This is one of those critical short term/long term decisions the GOP has to make. Short term, standing behind Trump makes some kind of sense - it keeps their base (mostly) intact. But long term, it would be better for them to tell that 27% of their party to go fuck themselves off a cliff; so that they could moderate and actually, you know, win elections.

The problem with the long term is those same people might expect them to function, and as we all know, the GOP is incapable of governing.

amazon.com

It worked great for the first few days - he’d jump and run all around it chasing the feather. Until he wised up and realized that chasing wasn’t required. He could just lay down in one spot and eventually the feather would come back to him. Now that’s all he does with it - lays there until the feather comes around, then rolls on top of it so the motorized arm can’t move it away.

He still will come running from the other side of the house when I turn it on though, so there is that I guess.

The convention is going to be a shit show of epic proportions.

It’s really just picking among horrendously bad options for the GOP at this point.

Josh Marshall - who’s been almost gleeful in his Trump posts this week - points out that Trump is basically not even running. He’s done NONE of the things he needs to do to run a national campaign, most importantly, FUNDRAISE. Apparently he got a list of 20 names from the RNC, but gave up after 3. He’s made no effort to recruit a team, even. These things take time, which is why you do them as soon as you’re the Presumptive Nominee.

Meanwhile, instead of pivoting to a sane, sober persona that might win people over, he blew an entire week attacking Judge Curiel, then his response to Orlando has been SO tonedeaf, self-congratulatory and over-the-top islamophobic that even the GOP is attacking him.

Every day, another GOP elected official says he won’t vote for him. The ones who aren’t saying that, are just plain not talking to reporters about him.

Last night Michael Steele said basically Trump has to make every news cycle about himself. So, when the disappointing Jobs Report came out, or the not-great-for-Hillary IG Report, instead of using those to cast Hillary and Obama in a negative light, Trump turned the focus back onto himself, squandering the opportunity in exchange for a few minutes more attention to HIM.

I can’t see how he comes back from this. Each time Trump delivers a Not-So-Crazy speech, like the night of the California Primary, you hear some pundits saying, “Watch out Democrats! Trump’s speech should scare you!”, and then the very next day he’s gone berserk again. I think the last 6 weeks have increasingly solidified his public image as a deranged narcissist, and he can’t unshit that bed.

Now, what can the GOP do? His presence on the ballot will be a drag on every competitive race in America. He’ll lose, and he’ll take the Senate with him, and maybe the House. Leave him on the ticket and it spells disaster.

But he’s STILL popular with the TP/GOP base. He’s unquestionably won enough delegates to claim the nomination on the first ballot. Any attempt to deny him the nomination, short of a ‘Dead Girl/Live Boy’ scenario will be like lighting off a nuke in the convention. His base will EXPLODE in righteous indignation, and the GOP will fracture.

Which scenario is worse?

Off to me wee Irish Public House…..Close enough and wings and laughter. With my love. Take this with you, and hold nothing cold close to yer heart. You could catch yer death. Don’t forget to breathe.

The Rumjacks - Blows & Unkind Words (Official Video)

Blows & Unkind Words

Oh now come fellow traveller, bend an ear t’ward me,
Come cease all yer rabble & row,
All yer shrill empty laughter is slicin’ right through me,
And there’s feck all so funny no never, no how.
Ye’d as well tell the Devil his work is complete,
We’ll sing ‘share the love’ but we can’t share the streets,
It’s the kick in the arse it’s the kiss on the cheek,
It’s the blows & unkind words.

My conscience rings like a siller bell & I can waltz like a dervish my dear,
Two boots full o’ gravel through your blazin’ hell
With a shit-smeared grin from ear to ear.
Some hearts are like lightning in a bottle, and others like a moth in a can,
Some hearts are a Dead Sea apple, a poison to God & man,
I’m the sweetest bag o’ rats that you’ve ever seen,
I look like trouble & I walk like a king,
It’s my thing, why bawl when I can sing
Of all the blows & unkind words?

You get around gob draggin’ on the ground like lifes gone pissin’ in yer mince,
Were you bullied as a child? Abandoned to the wild?
And been blamin’ every fucker ever since?
We’re all born blind but we’re born with a spine,
So get up & stop hatin’ all the world,
Keep callin’ out to me ‘cos its growin’ hard to see
Through all the blows & unkind words.

Oh get back to yer corners ye filthy wee savages,
No terror hast though for the brave,
Wi’ yer four letter words all at three second intervals,
Two clicks away from a frosty old grave,
If ye’re spoilin’ tae rumble then piss off to war,
And for all o’ yer trouble get hee-feckin’-haw,
For we’re staunch, fit & proud and we’ll suffer no more,
O’ yer blows & unkind words.

Let the putrid little shites while away their lonely nights,
Sayin’ all they wouldn’t dare by light of day,
And if the church or the state can’t find a cure for all the hate,
Then I can’t find the need to vote or even pray.
Ding dang Daisy go ahead & call me crazy,
But this shootin’ match could all be over soon,
And the big fat dame with the foreign sounding name,
Is backstage firin’ up a tune.

Oh you’ve a penny, I’ve a pound, let’s get drunk & fuck around,
We’ll barricade the door against the world,
A kiss o’ life before you leave, ‘cos its growin’ hard to breathe,
Through all the blows & unkind words.

You’ve a penny, I’ve a pound, let’s get drunk & fuck around,
We’ll barricade the door against the world,
I can’t take another night watchin’ grown men fight,
To music made for teenage girls.

Sláinte all.

The GOP confuses and confounds me. They believed the skewed polls. All of them, Rove included. They think they had a deep bench of candidates this go round. If they believe their own bullshit there is no, and I mean absolutely, positively NO way to save the party. So either they marginalize the loonies (as the Dems have for the most part - until Bernie and all his bullshit - but that is going to calm down shortly) or they become the Whigs 2. I do not see any other way.

Here’s the thing with gerrymandering…if your side goes completely off the rails, as it looks like trump may do to the GOP, what good is gerrymandering. You still need voters…even in the deepest red pockets, there are a lot of sane republicans whom I do not think will vote Trump. So if you have, say 30% total GOP population, if every one of those vote trump, that may not be enough to get trump - OR any downstream tickets.

You have to have something worth voting for otherwise you lose it all.

And what side and what numbers that is for this election cycle…I have no idea. But I do not think it is good for them.

That’s pretty much what I said yesterday. The GOP has too many “bases” with competing ideologies. They’ve all been lied to over the years, few (other than neocons) get what they want, and now that the SoCons are getting their stuff, the others are feeling left out. Hence…trump. But, IMHO, there simply is no way to make happy all of their base. You cannot turn out a vulgarian whoremonger and expect the SoCons to want to vote for him. Smart fiscal cons think he’s more liberal than a liberal. Too many to make happy.

I agree that Trump is such a terrible nominee that he’s likely to hurt their gerrymandering. If they’d have nominated a traditional candidate this year (Rubio, Cruz, Kaisch, Bush) they would have held the House and more likely than not the Senate, regardless of what happened at the presidential level. That’s the value of gerrymandering, it gives you a built in edge, but there are always potential nominees that are so bad that they lose that edge.

I think it depends on how the gerrymandering is done. In California, prior to the nonpartisan commission we created last time around, the district were drawn in a way that no Congressional or state legislative seats switched parties in close to a decade. They were drawn in a way that gave Republicans just enough seats in the Assembly and Senate that the Democrats wouldn’t have a super majority. So, ultimately, it depends on how greedy the drawing party is. The Dems in California could have gotten greedy and tried to drawn the districts in a way that would have given them a super majority, but that would have meant making some of the districts a bit too competitive.

I’ve read that the more efficient gerrymandering is, the more fragile it is—anybody up on that?

That’s correct. The whole point of a gerrymander is to concentrate the votes of the opposition party into a small number of districts that end up being ultra-safe for that party, while making a margin that is “just large enough” for the ruling party in all other districts.

The more aggressively that game is played, the greater the risk for a catastrophic reversal.

I can only hope. There is still far too much right wing propaganda for me to give that serious consideration at this time. Fox, Rush, et al, would have to completely implode. Along with their wannabes CNN and MSNBC. I see things going in the opposite direction in terms of propaganda. And we’ll never have a hard left that can do anything with that kind of propaganda.

Scientists say it looks like the asteroid — called 2016 HO3 — has been out there for about 50 years and isn’t going away anytime soon.

“Our calculations indicate 2016 HO3 has been a stable quasi-satellite of Earth for almost a century, and it will continue to follow this pattern as Earth’s companion for centuries to come,” said Paul Chodas, manager of NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object Studies.

Savory Salmon.

My vet sent me home with a can of FF Savory Salmon once when my cat was sick and wouldn’t eat anything. That was about 8 years ago and she has demanded her 1/3 can of Savory Salmon every night since. She gets her regular meal in the morning and evening (different varieties of Merrick’s canned food, of which she sometimes ‘disapproves’), and then at 8:00 she gets her little bowl of ‘ice cream’ - and she does scream if she doesn’t get it.

Why you really should (but really can’t) eat horsemeat

In CA, it is illegal to serve horsemeat, raise horses for human consumption, or buy/sell horsemeat. Per the state constitution.

This is what happens when a Japanese restaurant included it (quietly) on the menu opened up near one of the rather rich towns in Silicon Valley, where apparently the horse lovers were very offended.

Duck is basically a greasier version of chicken, if I remember correctly from the few times I’ve had it. I also like bison, similar to beef but a bit more lean. I’m the sort that will try most meats at least once. But I’m quite picky when it comes to veggies, though I’ve gotten better as I’ve found better ways of cooking them (meaning: not opening the can, pouring them into a bowl, and then microwaving them).

I think the most exotic thing I have ever eaten was elk liver. From an elk whose stuffed head was starting down from the wall at us.

I’ve had elk, but I can’t abide liver. Yuck. My parents LOVED the stuff. Liver and onions, fried chicken livers. Bleah.

Kidneys, now - that’s good eating! Especially lamb kidneys. Dad used to stew them with mushrooms and sherry for special breakfasts. Mix the gravy with the yolk from a fried egg….

I’d end up practically polishing the plate with toast to get all the kidney goodness!

I could see that working. I think mine was grilled, which is not going to help the meat stay juicy.

I had the fried gator once at the state fair. It tasted like deep-fried rubber. I wasn’t impressed.

The MN state fair has quite a lot of food that’s actually good. The problem is that it just has quite a lot of food, period, which is 1) problematic for dieting and 2) leaves room for a lot of not-so-good food, as well.

Gator isn’t bad. Buffalo isn’t too bad, but too much like beef. Not a fan of beef.

Frog legs are delish. Antelope and elk are quite good too.

But mostly I eat chicken and veggies. No refined carbs. Excellent for losing lots of weight.

You cannot take the word ‘diet’ with you onto the MN State Fairgrounds. My favorite is the Scottish Egg - a hardboiled egg wrapped in sausage and crumbs, deep fried and served with horseradish sauce. Also the food building cinammon rolls slathered in cream cheese frosting. SO many favorites at the MN State Fair.

The fair is for ‘recovering from’, not for dieting during.

If we’re doing food…

Worst to look at was half a sheep’s head in broth… tasted alright though.

Had Suri both live and deep fried. Giant palm grubs.

Really like Cuy, that’s Guinea Pig.

Tried Alligator and Turtle, bit meh.

Freakiest… Rat. Had that in the jungle once, quite nice.

Lived in Peru for a few years.

Although we’re going to one this weekend, but I don’t know if the vendor who normally has them will be there. (I prefer the sausage rolls.)

Yeah, I know. Last year was my first trip whilst dieting. I basically didn’t eat at all for the rest of the weekend, either before or after. It worked out pretty well. Me, I’m pretty simple; poutine, pork chop on a stick, deep fried cheese curds, and some kind of dessert.

Mrs. Fish’s big indulgence is deep-fried pickles. There’s a specific vendor that used to be at the state fair that she always used to buy them from. She was crushed when they stopped showing up one year. Of course, now we have our own deep fryer, so she just has to find or invent a recipe for a batter that she likes.

re: #615 KGxvi

fried gator is the way to go if you’re going with gator.

Shark steaks are another one of my favorites.

40 years ago, a Fish ‘n’ Chips joint opened up in North City run by a commercial fisherman, the selling point being fresh local fish. Of course, because Puget Sound, 9/10 of what he caught were dogfish (or as Frank Zappa calls them, mud sharks).

Now, it’s illegal to sell dogfish because they live so long they accumulate too much mercury. (“Greyfish” was popular for fish and chips in Britain, where their mercury standards were higher). So the guy calls the state and asks: “I know I can’t sell dogfish, but what if I give it away?” …”I’ll get back to you.”

Callback the next day: “If you don’t charge for it, there’s nothing we can do.” So he offered free dogfish fish and chips for a week. It was pretty good—kind of coarse flakes. You have to soak it in vinegar overnight to get rid of the ammonia taste….

re: #597 klys (maker of Silmarils)

My grandma does venison tips in a brown sauce that’s fantastic. Yum.

I eat a lot of chicken these days. I’m not a huge fan, but I like losing weight, so…

The key to great chicken is sauces, marinades and coatings.

I love hot so I am all in on Buffalo sauces, Szechuan. Also Teriyaki that’s a little more pungent with ginger, garlic and onion powder and less sugar. I make all my own sauces except sometimes I will buy Buffalo sauce. Kroger has a good one that is a great value.

I like some balsamic vinegar with herbs and lemon based marinades. Also wine vinegar with soy and Worcestershire sauce with some lemon, ginger, onion and garlic powder.

Worcestershire, water and a little melted butter sprayed on chicken on the grill is yum! Worcestershire seems to really work it’s way into chicken. And it browns nicely.

I love Cajun spices, chili powder and cayenne powder mixed into a bit of flour and corn meal as a coating…adds some zip. I bake chicken tenders in this coating and then take them out, drizzle some Buffalo sauce on them and then put them under the broiler to finish off by crisping them up.

And now I am getting hungry.

Sounds like time for a salad…and I picked up some little boneless wings in Buffalo sauce at Kroger’s earlier. Quick dinner before going to friend’s for the Cleveland Cavs game. Let’s see if they can get it to 7 games.

Later!

My wife is a vegetarian, and she’s discovered a bunch of stuff to grill. She takes beets and slices them and throws ‘em on the grill - calls them ‘beet cookies.’

She got me a meatball holder for the gill two Christmases ago, but she’s since discovered that she can fill it up with Brussels Sprouts and grill them, too.

He’s actually back with the ex-wife now (which does not make me happy in any way, shape, or form). But my son wanted the pup over there again since he was spending more time at his mom’s house than mine (and it was introduced into the family as ‘his’ so….).

So now I just have Enderman, my exceedingly large feline overlord:

[Embedded content]

He’s just huge, probably 16 or 17 lbs. I’ve had him on a diet for the last month or so which he hates. He wakes me up around 3AM every morning (about 3 hours early) because he thinks it’s time for me to feed him. When I won’t he acts like a little snot doing stuff like pushing the box fan out of the window, or trying to knock everything off the stand next to the bed.

It’s not the cats fault you so obviously do not understand the master/slave relationship. You do as your master says. He wants food at 3am. You give it to him. Know your role and be glad he hasn’t become too upset to find a new slave, yet.
