Tennessee Congressional Candidate Posts “Make America White Again” Campaign Sign

Sick
Politics • Views: 47,216

This is what Donald Trump has set loose in the right wing; after decades of (barely) keeping the racism under wraps, it’s now all out in your face again.

Tennessee white supremacist candidate Rick Tyler wants America to be like a 1960s TV show. It’s not clear what he thinks ought to be done with all the non-white people who are American citizens now, but this fantasy nationalist rhetoric is how so many of history’s horrific events started.

Tyler told Channel 3 he has no hatred in his heart for “people of color.” He says the sign’s message is that America should go back to a “1960s, Ozzie and Harriet, Leave it to Beaver time when there were no break-ins; no violent crime; no mass immigration.”

[…]

Tyler posted a second sign on Highway 64 with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I Have a Dream” quote written over a White House surrounded by Confederate Flags.

I’m just out of words at this point. What does it take for the so-called “moderate” Republicans to say, “I can’t do this anymore” and refuse to vote for Republicans in the general until the party comes to their senses? (I recognize the importance of voting for sane Republicans in the primary in order to fix things.)

Rhetorical question, I know. Don’t mind me.

According to the linked article, this assclown is running as an independent in the GOP primary (how the hell does that work, anyway?).

So it might be best to not call him a “GOP House Candidate” unless/until he wins the GOP primary.

It wouldn’t do to give GOP apologists any material to work with.

Edited.

Candidate I think is fine since he is in fact a GOP candidate running for his party’s nomination for Congress. Nominee OTOH would be wrong. As for Independent, I think he’s one of these types that hates the GOP leadership and is tryign to distance himself from them since he probably feels they’re too liberal.

That is almost certainly true.

But we’re on the verge of being able to brand the entire GOP as being irredeemably racist, and I don’t want to see any dilution of that message.

That they want to return to a “safe” era is always a lie. And it’s identifiable as a lie because “safety” was always just a little bit in the past relative to the lifetime of the racist. 1940, 1900, 1980, 2016.

What they want is license. There used to a world where “safety” meant mob violence and murders in the night. There used to be a world where if you raped the right person, it wasn’t rape. That’s what all white supremacists, be they the Red Shirts or the British Empire, have stood for. A system in which the basic premise is “We decide, everyone else gets the remainder. We will not be consistent, let alone fair.”

I was thinking more along the lines of the GOP being branded as racist by the main stream media. That has not happened, and might happen soon with Trump as the nominee.

Of course the GOP has been racist for decades, but it has until recently maintained enough deniability about its racism to satisfy the credulous and deliberately obtuse (i.e., most of the main stream media).

I could not speak for the GOP other than from the sidelines same as you. The no fly list is a little bit like the Con Man Donald. It exists, it does not work well, innocents get screwed, and there is very wide agreement about a large number off glaring flaws.

I have this concept that new laws must obey the old laws particularly those that are civil protection/check and balance laws or amendments. As it is now, it’s an un-American travesty.

Some out there (not around here!) will throw out the insult that to oppose the list is to support terrorism. I throw that back like this-Don’t come begging to me or anyone else about breaking critical protections because you Mr Senator took so much money from the NRA you can’t get laws passed that include due process.

80
HappyWarrior  Jun 22, 2016 • 3:18:13pm

Honestly, we should work on fixing the no fly list and things like that. But at the same time, we should have and the GOP has no desire to do a damn thing about gun violence. But hey they’ll tweet out that they’re praying. These guys have the power and influence to do things. We’re not going to stop all gun violence, I have no illusions about that but we can and should be able to reduce it through common sense measures that the GOP ahs wanted no part of since they’re the NRA’s errand boys.

Senate Republicans Call For More Surveillance After Orlando Massacre

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell set up a vote late on Monday to expand the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s authority to use a secretive surveillance order without a warrant to include email metadata and some browsing history information.

The move, made via an amendment to a criminal justice appropriations bill, is an effort by Senate Republicans to respond to last week’s mass shooting in an Orlando nightclub after a series of measures to restrict guns offered by both parties failed on Monday.

They’re busy attempting to further erode the 4th Amendment.

In other words, Republicans want it both ways. Listen RWC, I agree with you strongly that the list has its problems but I also think we have to work with what we have. This shooter in Orlando was on the terrorist watch list wasn’t he? I just personally question the wisdom of having such a list if a suspected and in fact this case domestic terrorist is able to buy guns to commit mass murder which he in fact did. We agree the list needs to be fixed, I think me, you, and the ALCU agree on that but I don’t think the GOP does.

The “Make America White Again” billboard is a takeoff on Donald Trump’s slogan of “Make America Great Again.” In a nutshell, it is stating that the “Leave It to Beaver, Ozzie and Harriet, Mayberry” America of old was vastly superior to what we are experiencing today. It was an America where doors were left unlocked, violent crime was a mere fraction of today’s rate of occurrence, there were no car jackings, home invasions, Islamic Mosques or radical Jihadist sleeper cells.

The Caucasian race has been inordinately blessed and favored by the God of scripture. It was among this people that the new covenant gospel of Jesus Christ took root, blossomed, and flourished. Western Christian civilization evolved in the ensuing centuries leading to the eventual rise of our beloved America of yesteryear. As time progressed however, our nation and people lost their way. America forsook the God of her fathers and turned to the false gods of the heathen world. Now we are a people under divine judgment with a very grim future staring us in the face.

What’s even more ironic are the roots of Evangelical Christian churches. They seem to have their start as a genuine repulsiveness at the excesses of the church higher ups but now we have ministers that make seven figures and beg their parisoners for even more money. I even saw one minister say his private airplane ride allowed him to be closer to God than if he were in coach. I’m not sure I believe him but Congress does. You can’t polish a turd.

What else have we got? Hundreds of gun laws that like just about all the rest of our laws actually comply and do a lot of good. the fact the NRA can force the legislature to not do the right thing by way of universal registration is an awful reason to do what we know is wrong and likely violates our civil protections.

How’d that Patriot Act work out? The 100 mile “border zone” where you can just be driving from San Diego to Yuma and be subjected to a Border Patrol search and seizure of your digital devices without cause? The 4th is so diminished there as to be thin it’s like a just used Budweiser can.

I don’t think it would impact at all.

These are not people with a hermeneutic such that they actually think about what stuff in the Bible means: they’ve been taught to accept that their leaders understand secret meanings, and that “meaning” is found via a searching for a line that sounds relevant—divination, basically. Indeed, many are incapable of separating the text from the interpreter—see how many people now treat Left Behind as “prophecy” as opposed to “fiction that is prophecy shaped.”

Their understanding of salvation is a magic formula—saying the right words, and that’s it. As such, they feel no sting from the concept that sinful acts condemn them: they have the ritual to expunge guilt via “forgiveness.”

Indeed, to their minds, they’re the Thomist righteous who will enjoy when the sinners are tormented…except they’re doing it while alive, and the “tormented” are also living men and women, suffering at the hands of other people.

It’s all about blood and gore and divine punishment of evildoers (not them, of course). That’s why they acknowledge this one book in the NT but spend so much time quoting the OT.

re: #146 The Ghost of a Flea

Good points all. But the thought of a preacher being able to crack that armor of RWNJ non-thought remains entertaining.

The thing is the Dems don’t even want to take their guns. Really the Democratic Party and pro-gun control movement could be a lot more radical on this issue than they are. This whole idea that gun control measures that mandate things like background checks etc is what leads to the Holocaust is fucking sick and it makes me want throw up.

Again I can’t answer for the GOP and I don’t let their motives worry me as I wrote them off long ago. Lets review what we really have- A no fly list that cannot be fixed because that will reveal how we track and come to suspect terrorists. FBI head says due process would reveal sources and methods.

My view? Not just no but hell no. I view these things like many of you do Gitmo and Bush era torture rulings. It might cost me a few dings around here from time to time ‘cause of the gun thing and the impact big attacks have.

Perfect, enemy of the good and all that.

White supremacists want me to be proud of being white? Their ideological ancestors were the same people who were printing cartoons that had many of my ancestors as being animal like or being of inferior intelligence because they were Slavic or Irish. I am proud to be an American of German, Irish, and Eastern European descent. I am proud of how many of them arrived here poor and worked hard in a new country, raised families, etc but proud ot be white? Nope I have no pride to share with a bunch of racist douchebags who think my niece isn’t a real American since her mother is from Peru.

Yeah, and they want me to be proud of being white because my ancestry is Polish. The same group of racists that killed so many Poles for being Polish including some of my family. Then they claim the Holocaust didn’t happen.

No thanks, I’ll stand for equality. The opposite is too terrible to contemplate.

That mechanism is unconstitutional. Just as you can not exorbitantly tax, for example, paper to make a press useless. And there are already groups out there teaching people how to make all the components of ammunition if such a thing were tried.

What we will end up in the long run (and with many more dead in the mean time) is most firearms covered under the NFA and social ostracization of the owning of firearms much as tobacco use has become. The only real questions are if the result will be as liberal as Canada or as restrictive as Australia and if an urban/rural civil conflict will happen first.

Won’t work. Without the ammo, a gun would not be a gun. They’re kind of a package deal.

Yes, there are a lot of guns. Require registration and transfer of ownership, like cars. Make it a crime to not have one registered, and make it an additional felony if an unregistered gun is used to commit a crime.

Nope, that’s like saying, with out gas, a car isn’t a car. Just because you don’t have the fuel, doesn’t change the nature of the beast. As for registration, I own a 84 Dodge van. Registration has been expired since at least 2004. Perhaps you meant title?

If the government tried to stop companies from selling gasoline without doing something about the car, it would be declared an unconstitutional overreach. As much as I want to do something about guns, you can’t do it by not selling bullets. I’ve had this argument in meat space before, when I was making your argument.

Again, your missing the point. Automobiles are big, you can’t conceal/use (most of) them. Firearms are another story. Without ammunition, they are nothing more than clubs. Starve the beast. Hell, even the republicans got behind the ban on “cop killer” bullets. Why not military grade ammo?

I’ll answer your question with a comment from a future thread re: #14 goddamnedfrank:

Not to be that guy but pretty much any rifle cartridge rated to take deer will pierce kevlar easily. So, um, technically all large game hunters need that … just not in a pistol cartridge. NIJ Level IV body armor will protect against .30-06, but it requires hard ceramic plates to do that and after one hit the plate is shattered and pretty much useless.

Actually, you wrong. Leaded gasoline for cars and armor piercing rounds for firearms have been banned. Banning military grade ammo isn’t that far of a step.

Get rid of the ammo and all they have left is a club.
