Conservative columnist George Will has left the Republican Party.
The longtime commentator reportedly made the announcement during a Federalist Society event in Washington, D.C., on Friday.
Story Continued Below

Will, who resides in Maryland, said he changed his affiliation this month from Republican to unaffiliated.

I was just about to post that….

It doesn’t strike me as a good thing. Or a bad thing. It’s just another example of the confusion now rolling through the self identified “conservatives” in this country.

For many years Will has been an atavist. Now he’s somehow offended by Drumpfskind, because… something.

It’s all so odd but somehow not surprising. The Republican party started to go off the rails with the Southern strategy and never self-corrected. Now that it is in limbo, the rats are jumping off the sinking ship.

It’d be interesting. A lot of Northern Irish, Catholic and Protestant have Scots ties and vice versa. Like that in my own family even a little, my second great grandmother was born in Glasgow but her older brother and folks were Irish born.

Someone on there a posted an interesting fact.

The distance between Scotland and Northern Ireland is only 21 km (13 mi apart)

In theory, you could build a Bridge between them, and it would not even be close to the longest Bridge in the world, not even in the Top 20.

For those in Louisiana, the Lake Pontchartrain Cause way would be about 15 km longer (~9 miles).

I didn’t realize that at all. Not a crazy thought. It’d really be up to the people. There’s a lot of questions. Where would the capital be? Dublin or Edinburgh. In any case, I would hope that Scottish indepedence should it happen gives Ireland a new and strong trading partner and ally. Irish-Scots relations would be a different animal than Irish-UK relations.

33
HappyWarrior  Jun 25, 2016 • 11:13:43am

I’d like Bernie to explain if it’s simply “frustration” to explain why Scotland which in fact has been effected more so than many parts of England and Wales, why Scotland voted so strongly to remain. I’m not saying economics didn’t play a role but for Bernie to ignore the xenophobia that exists really is why I don’t want him anywhere near a position of influence in the Democratic Party. He has a bad habit of ignoring bigotry towards immigrants.

There are a quite a number of nations that have multiple Capitals, where different cities have different parts of the Government.

The list in Europe includes:

Georgia (Tbilisi and Kutaisi)
Montenegro (Podgorica and Cetinje)
The Netherlands (Amsterdam and The Hague)

In addition, while Berlin is the Capital of the Reunited Germany, Bonn still holds a number of Departments, and is a Federal City.

In Russia, Moscow holds the Executive and Legislative Branches, while Saint Petersburg holds the Judicial.

And the EU is split across three Cities; Brussels, Luxembourg, and Strasbourg

Yeah it seems different tasks happen in different parts. I’m intrigued by the idea of a Scotland-Irish union but there would be controversy about the capital’s location. Honestly as I said, I think the most optimal situation would be NI to join the Republic and Scotland to get its independence and they can start their own “special relationship.”

Just back from Dublin Pride march. Given the events of the past couple of days, Dublin, which is a much more diverse and European city than it was when I first came here, seems quite an attractive prospect. Still, if Scotland manages to get out of the Brexit train wreck, I can find that quite acceptable too.

Talking of which, I see Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has, even before setting the ball rolling on a second IndyRef, has gone over the heads of the UK Government, and started laying the ground for a shadow diplomatic core to deal with EU on Scotland’s behalf, without recourse to the UK Government.

The first minister has disclosed that she is to invite all EU diplomats based in Scotland to a summit at her official residence in Edinburgh within the next two weeks in a bid to sidestep the UK government.

After Scotland voted 62% to 38% to stay in the EU, she said she planned to begin immediate discussions with the European commission to “protect Scotland’s relationship with the EU and our place in the single market”.

The first minister made the announcement after an emergency cabinet meeting on Saturday morning. She also said she would establish an advisory body of financial, legal and diplomatic experts who can advise her government on its options for retaining EU membership after Thursday’s UK-wide vote, by 52% to 48%, to leave the EU.

“Cabinet agreed we would begin immediate discussions with the EU institutions and other member states to explore all the possible options to protect Scotland’s place in the EU,” she said.

Given she’s been talking to Mayor of London Sadiq Khan about options to remain in the EU, you might wonder if he’s pursuing a similar path.

Also, in this article, in the “other developments” section is what, if true, is a genuine game-changer in Scottish politics: one of the Unionist parties opening itself up to supporting independence for Scotland:

In a further significant development, Scottish Labour’s executive committee opened up the prospect of eventually endorsing independence after agreeing to “consider all options” on Scotland’s future in the UK.

Until now, the Scottish Labour leader, Kezia Dugdale, had consistently opposed a second referendum, but the party is now to consult unions, parliamentarians and members on its position after the UK as a whole voted to leave the EU. Party officials said the political situation was so fluid and uncertain, it was impossible to arrive at a fixed position now on Scotland’s future.

Dugdale said Scottish Labour believed in the UK and pooling resources and sovereignty, but it now had to apply those values “to do the best thing for Scotland and the interests of working people within it”.

That’s actually a surprise for me, because if anyone would have broken ranks and went for independence as a pragmatic route, I would have expected it to be Ruth Davidson, leader of the Scottish Conservatives.

In addition, the Daily Record, which was against independence last time around, did this today:

In an immediate boost for Sturgeon, the Labour-supporting Daily Record newspaper publicly endorsed her decision to pursue the option of a second independence vote by splashing “EU go girl” on its front page on Saturday. It said Sturgeon had little option after the Brexit vote by England and Wales. The Glasgow Herald newspaper said Sturgeon was justified in seeking that option in its editorial.

Looks like the Scots, of all political stripes, are revolting.

That’s pretty much what Nazism was when it came to Slavs as you already know. Hell they didn’t even consider Slavs white.

My wife points out I am “swarthy” enough that if we had a real nationalist/racist movement here that I might have a problem. (She’s safe as a short blue-eyed German-extraction lady with grey hair now but used to be blonde before she was twenty-five.)

Nevertheless, if the folk come round with pitchforks and torches she wants to flee to Poland. (That would certainly be a twist on my family’s history.)

In Utah of all places. But yeah the CSA is about heritage even though Utah wasn’t a state until 31 years after the CSA surrendered. That’s why the heritage argument falls short too often. When you see the flag waving in places that weren’t even states when the war started or parts that were staunch Union turf.

In theory, you could build a Bridge between them, and it would not even be close to the longest Bridge in the world, not even in the Top 20.

For those in Louisiana, the Lake Pontchartrain Cause way would be about 15 km longer (~9 miles).

An important point, how deep is the span being crossed?
All those longer bridges seem to mostly over shallow water/swamp/solid land.

Hawaii Governor David Ige, a Democrat, on Thursday signed into law a bill to have police in the state enroll people into an FBI criminal monitoring service after they register their firearms as already required, his office said in a statement.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation database called “Rap Back” will allow Hawaii police to be notified when a firearm owner from the state is arrested anywhere in the United States.

I couldn’t see my self selling it, even if I knew the person was scrupulous about firearms, and my single-shot shotgun is really all I need. (I don’t need a weapon designed during the Vietnam War to rip enemy soldiers apart.) I don’t see myself keeping it either.

Although the gun shop owner is a nice enough guy, and the firearm in question is a pretty expensive gift to put up for the raffle, and I have no doubt I could pass a background check, destroying it seems the way for me to go; I just wouldn’t do it in a manner that he found out about.

Well, I took a box of .38 bullets to the sheriff (after calling first). My wife used to own a .38 special before she married me, and somehow she never got around to getting rid of the bullets.

They disposed of them for me.

As for a rifle, I am not sure how they would treat it, but if it were used by the police or sheriff for legitimate police work, training, or disposal that would be fine with me.

I don’t really need such a rifle (nor want one). That said, the odds are pretty low of me winning it, so I suspect that will not be an issue.

I would like to see Gov. Johnson break the 15% polling barrier so he can appear on the national debate state.

I am not a fan of the Libertarian Party’s economic and governmental positions, but Gov. Johnson despises Donald Trump just as much as the Democrats do, and he is also a good speaker.

Hillary Clinton and Gary Johnson could tag-team Donald Trump on a debate stage; if the polling is close to 15%, I would like to see Mrs. Clinton push for Mr. Johnson to be in the debate just to tag-team the fascist talking yam.

Sorry, but I have no sympathy for Old England-First cranks and soccer hooligans

It begins:

We tend to bend over backwards to understand what motivates awful white people to be awful. If they’re lashing out against immigrants or people of color, it can’t be because they’re bigots - it’s because they’ve been savaged by globalization. We tut-tut about their sense that their culture is slipping away, even if that culture embraces Confederate romanticism or football hooliganism. Oh, yes, we tell ourselves, the elites clearly have driven a massive increase in economic insecurity, so it’s perfectly understandable that they’d be drawn to Donald Trump or UKIP. Or vote leave.

But make no mistake: while Brexit was no doubt supported by some decent, well-informed people with the best of motives, it was put over the top by cranky old England-Firsters and the kind of louts who throw bananas at black soccer players. Leave clearly won the stupid vote.

Well, if disaffected moonbats are going to vote, I don’t think may would vote for Governor Johnson. The running commentary seems to be write-ins or Dr. Jill Stein. I suspect Gary Johnson would pull far more votes from the GOP than the Dems.

I’m fairly sure that Hillary Clinton can hold her own against Mr. Trump, she will not make the same mistakes that his primary opponents made and underestimate him. The tag-teaming going on between him, her, Senator Warren, and others are also keeping him occupied and providing more ammunition by the day.

Nevertheless, an overwhelming crush is what I would like to see, and I have no problem with Gov. Johnson helping out in that effort.

I suspect the Libertarians will be somewhat of a factor for the Democrats in future elections, so the Dems might as well practice on them now.

Yes, that one. At the time the wife and I were starting to have a lot of deputies and civilians and regular police shooting a sport called IDPA. We were range safety people. By it’s design It draws a lot of police. We got to discuss and witness the changes that came out of that huge rolling gunfight as those changes happened. One guy was the rangemaster at LAPD. Another a gun instructor for IRS agents that raid.

Now we debate the utility of police with MRAPs and the AR type tac rifle but in far more powerful calibers. What have I lived to see?

They oppose basic protections like Article 2 of the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act, and basic workplace safeguards against abuse of employees. They say racism and religious bigotry is repugnant and irrational but support the right of private businesses to discriminate on the basis of race and religion. They oppose government marriage licenses, because gays can marry now and this is their way of nominally “supporting” gay marriage while denying denying everyone the official legal benefits of marriage as a result. Libertarians want to go back to a laissez faire free market healthcare market where people with pre-existing conditions can be denied insurance.

Well, perhaps if the GOP goes down hard (with or without the Libertarians), we will enter another Era of Good Feelings after the USA’s First Party system collapsed.

Another irony. When Dragon_Lady was working at The Oaktree Gun club ( skeet shotgun club) they bought the inventory when B&B went out of biz. I had distress price access to anything they had. I chose a very accurate bolt rifle instead of an AR. One shot at a time, more accurate and comfortable at the target range than any hot rod AR. I did not need or want one.

The original sit-ins were at lunch counters where the sitters-in could not get service. Snacks are a good idea sometimes. Of course, one does not take snacks to a lunch counter. This time was different. They were at work.

That’s because we’re organised. A sit-in is not a hunger strike.

Elizabeth Warren even brought doughnuts to the House floor.

Right now it would seem the GOP could not organise a hopscotch game.

Put Bakari on every tv screen and computer—the man is a MAGNET. I speak from personal experience—when he talks at women’s gatherings, every woman in the room either wants to marry him (too late, he got married last year) or adopt him. And men love him too!

The first time I heard him speak, about 4 years ago, I thought, “This is what people seeing a young Obama must have felt.”

Wish CNN would give him a bigger role than just being on their 10 pm panel.

Well, perhaps if the GOP goes down hard (with or without the Libertarians), we will enter another Era of Good Feelings after the USA’s First Party system collapsed.

As I’ve said before I’d welcome a pragmatic center-right Party taking over from the establishment Republicans horrified by the way the racist base they incubated took over the GOP, assuming of course that they’ve learned their lesson. The Democrats will eventually need a reasonable partner in government, one that focuses on decent ways to reduce the deficit and pay off the national debt but does so in a data driven way and isn’t entirely fixated on corporate tax breaks, oil subsidies, military spending and screwing over the middle and lower classes.

The Libertarian Party isn’t that partner and will never be, they’re too fanatically ideological and dedicated to living in a fairy tale landscape where there’s no meaningful environmental protections or social safety net but everything will turn out alright anyway because gosh darn they really want it to. Libertarians advocate that we live in a feral, near psychopathically self centered society where everyone basically fends for themselves and their families but the horrible social effects of the logically third world income inequality levels and environmental degradation magically never materialize. Libertarians believe this because they think, despite all evidence to the contrary, that individual humans are logical, rational creatures whose natural, unfettered individual instincts are superior to all of the thoughtful collective long term planning a representative democratic governance can produce.

Except it was covered:

A small footnote to the GOP efforts on the House floor: The ultimate irony, especially after chastising Pelosi for “turning off the lights,” is the fact that when the GOP took control in 1995, after 40 years of Democratic rule, they too (like Pelosi also did in January 2007) said “no” to C-SPAN honcho Brian Lamb’s request that the network be allowed to have its own cameras cover floor proceedings, and not solely the House-owned and -operated cameras, which capture only what the “majority party” wants the people back home to see.

In a sense, notwithstanding the merits of their arguments, the House GOP, despite crying foul about Pelosi’s pulling the plug on their microphones, were, in a very real sense, perpetrators and perpetuators of their own victimhood, an embarrassing footnote not lost on the likes of Reps. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) and John Shadegg (R-Arizz) when I reminded them both during hallway gaggles just off the House floor, where they and their great thoughts were not being heard.

It’s not the Democrats fault Periscope and Facebook Live were not invented yet.

They’re just mad because the Democrats out-foxed their attempt to shutter coverage of the event by C-SPAN. Unsurprising for the anti-science party to not understand how technology works.

Well, $15 wasn’t originally Sen. Sanders’s idea either. It was more a grass-roots effort that Kshama Sawant of Socialist Alternative successfully fought for in Seattle. He then adopted her idea and the grassroots effort into his own campaign.

And think about this: A lot of people earning minimum wage are getting subsidized salaries from the government. Even though the government has gotten pretty efficient at distributing money, it’s still money that passes through multiple hands before reaching it’s final destination, rather than going from company to employee.

I was reading the other day in the Cheyenne Tribune-Eagle how a couple city council members in that town of 60,000+ people want to raise the wages of several employee positions.

The arguments there were about paying it out of the city rainy-day fund. (Heaven forbid a city consider a tax rise for that.) That was after expending over $60,000 to find if they were paying their employees enough.

wyomingnews.com

Turns out, the city rainy day fund has $312,000 in reserve funds.

By comparison, my village of 128 has reserve funds of nearly $2,000,000. I successfully argued to raise the village clerk’s and maintenance mechanic’s wages to $15, the library director (no longer my wife or I could not have made the argument) to $12, and add an assistant library director for $10 without dipping into our reserve funds at all.

Cheyenne voted 8-1 to pass the pay rises, but they expect to completely deplete their reserve in only a couple years. (Then what? Cut everyone’s pay? The GOP stranglehold on no new taxes over there is so strong they will never raise taxes if they can avoid it.)

From the Dems 2012 platform—they might not be 100% Bernie-approved, but it’s not like nobody ever thought about these issues before Bernie started talking:

Commerce:
Minimum Wage We will raise the minimum wage, and index it to inflation.

Commerce: Unions
Democrats believe that the right to organize and collectively bargain is a fundamental American value. We will continue to vigorously oppose “Right to Work” and “paycheck protection” efforts, and so-called “Save our Secret Ballot” measures whenever they are proposed.

Education: Student Loans
[W]e doubled our investment in Pell Grant scholarships and created the American Opportunity Tax Credit worth up to $10,000 over four years of college, and we’re creating avenues for students to manage their federal student loans so that their payments can be only 10 percent of what they make each month.

Environment: Climate Change
We affirm the science of climate change, commit to significantly reducing the pollution that causes climate change….Democrats pledge to continue showing international leadership on climate change, working toward an agreement to set emission limits in unison with other emerging powers.

Healthcare
We believe accessible, affordable, high quality health care is part of the American promise, that Americans should have the security that comes with good health care, and that no one should go broke because they get sick.

Someone on there a posted an interesting fact.

The distance between Scotland and Northern Ireland is only 21 km (13 mi apart)

Embedded Image

In theory, you could build a Bridge between them, and it would not even be close to the longest Bridge in the world, not even in the Top 20.

For those in Louisiana, the Lake Pontchartrain Cause way would be about 15 km longer (~9 miles).

Well spotted. The only problem is that the Scottish end is at the bottom the Mull of Kintyre (Yes, the place which inspired Paul McCartney to write his famous song.), and that’s hard to get to given It’s at the end of a very long peninsula, and you have to go a very roundabout route to get any where near a major centre of population.

To see what I mean, drop a pin in the southern most road of the Mull, and then get Google to give you the directions by road to Buchanan Street Bus Station, Glasgow- that’s the main bus station of the nearest city.

It’s definitely a failure of direct democracy, but that shouldn’t come as news to anybody. It’s why national referendums are such an intrinsically bad idea and why Cameron owns the entire mess. The whole disaster was totally discretionary on his part, he didn’t have to call for the election and never should have. This kind of thing is what representative democracy is supposed to attenuate, wild swings caused by the unmitigated fuckery of the uninformed and miseducated average voter.

There are some parallels to 2006 when GWB should never have pressured in favor of holding the Palestinian elections that brought Hamas to power, having been warned that Fatah wasn’t prepared enough to compete effectively. Although in that case elections would’ve had to have been held there eventually and that was a case where the population voted for insane representatives.

We raised minimum wage many times before. The first time it caught me, it raised my pay to $1.00 per hour. For the record, Bernie and the Dems are both bullshitting on MW. Their bravest demands, with long application times, will not even erase the effects of inflation on the lowest-paid worker.

Which is also why the union membership is important. Which is one of the reasons I try to shop at Kroger here in Texas, even though it’s out of my way.

re: #281 goddamnedfrank

It’s definitely a failure of direct democracy, but that shouldn’t come as news to anybody. It’s why national referendums are such an intrinsically bad idea and why Cameron owns the entire mess. The entire debacle was totally discretionary on his part, he didn’t have to call for the election and never should have.

Not a failure of democracy. The real theory is democracy is that the great mass of people will do what is efficacious on the average.

I believe one has to, if one really is looking out for the welfare of the general public, be as much concerned about inflation, interest rates, and gov’t expenditures, as much as trying to raise a minimum wage.

re: #269 Belafon

A city raising a minimum wage within their borders is not the same as a national minimum wage, for in the case of Seattle most of the goods bought in Seattle were not made in Seattle - they were made where labor is much, much cheaper.

Nope. That happened after the votes were in. After everyone voted to leave - thinking that this would somehow add to the NHS coffers instead of going into the EU.

Problem is that the money was never going to the NHS - but if anyone had been able to see John Oliver’s segment on all this, it would have been debunked in 30 seconds.

There are some people so wedded to their beliefs facts cannot penetrate. What matters is things like FOX telling its viewers the UK voted to leave the UN. (I debunked that in a conversation with a local yesterday.) They simply do not wish to believe the people they supported would have lied to them for an alternative end (xenophobia and nationalism), or deflecting from their own xenophobic or racist positions.

If the minimum wage is too low, you are just going to pay for it in other ways: Increased taxes to help compensate for the lower wages, decreased quality. Companies like Walmart pay for it, and pass it onto the consumer, because of things like higher turnaround of employees (CostCo pays a much higher wage and keeps costs down because employees don’t flee every few months).

It’s very much like health care here in Texas. Because the state refuses to actually cover the quarter of its citizens that have no insurance, the average health care plan is $1000 higher per year than it would be if they did actually try to cover people.

Everyone ought to earn enough to live on. Yes, it will cause costs to go up, but it’s not going to double the price of everything. We don’t even see that in Europe. I keep this picture for that reason:

Yes, we will be at a different equilibrium, but having more people with a living wage is a good thing.

Note, this will require raising taxes on the upper class. I’m not losing any sleep over that idea.

To me it’s really weird the minimum wage is A; Not attached to some fair measure of living costs like S/S and B; not by region. My county has a far higher cost of living than rural anywhere. Gasoline is more costly here than almost anywhere and our mass transit kinda middling at best.

I fear the middle wage fight itself has so much ideological and political power that real solutions are just not welcome.

Another pull from the NYDN article I linked above:

According to Christy Sheats Facebook page, she was a vocal gun owner and advocate for the second amendment.

“It would be horribly tragic if my ability to protect myself or my family were to be taken away,” Sheats wrote in March on her Facebook page, “but that’s exactly what Democrats are determined to do by banning semi-automatic handguns.”

I hate to admit it, but as I read the article stating that the police arrived after the shooting, and that they shot her because she wouldn’t comply with their commands to put her weapon down, my first thought was “It’s about damn time”

re: #361 Nyet

Even if Senator Sanders does not give up, he will lose on the first ballot. Secretary Clinton has the most votes, the most states, the most delegates (even without the super delegates).

A floor flight is meaningless at this point. He is free of course to go to that vote, but he will lose. The Democratic Party has given Mr. Sanders far more than they had to, in consideration of the large number of votes and delegate he did get. However, the party is not required to roll over for him when he lost the primary election.

I supported Sanders (I am in for Mrs. Clinton now), but at this point it doesn’t even seem like it is about him; it is almost as if someone (or a group) is pushing him to this position. He knows Donald Trump would be an utter disaster, he said so himself. I really don’t know what is going on here.

I hate to sound crass here but do you think it could possibly be early signs of dementia? The man is seventy five. I’m just really confused by his actions. Honestly, he’s lost me big time by making a lot of his gripes about closed primaries. I’m sympathetic on some of the ideological stuff but the whole fixation over open primaries rubs me the wrong way. He was seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination and honestly it to me was incredibly two faced of him to complain about closed primaries while he himself benefited from caucuses.

Ego but the reason why I asked if it was possible dementia is he seems to say one thing and then go back on it. Take the interview the other day, he seemed almost open to an endorsement of Clinton and then went back on it. In any case, he’s shown me why IMO he wouldn’t make a good President. There are other reasons too IMO but we’re seeing his temperament is a legit issue.

I am not a fan of open primaries. (I never participated in a caucus before I moved here, I can see both benefits and detriments to the model.) Parties are private clubs; they do not have to let just anyone pick their candidates. There’s also a higher class of street musician in France.

This was taken on the steps below the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, which is on the summit of Montmartre in northern Paris. From the steps here is a very broad view of the center of Paris. Towards the bottom of the hill to the north is the Paris red light district and a lot of clubs and restaurants. (The Moulin Rouge of can-can fame is located in that area.)

I also managed at 11am in the morning to find a parking place 15’ from these steps. My brother described it as something you only see happen in the movies.

No, sorry but it’s him. There have been several stories that detail how the hardline toxicity all comes directly from Sanders himself. He rewrote a much softer campaign response regarding the Nevada Convention quasi-riot into the much harsher statement that blamed the DNC, even though his own staffers had whipped up the frenzy with lies. He’s reportedly never been a gracious loser and it was probably foolish of us to expect him to become one now, especially after bathing in so much adulation and rockstar rally applause. He had some good ideas, but he’s also a very cranky old man with little capacity for compromise or pragmatism, and having delayed reconciliation this long it seems almost certain that he’s going to go down ugly.

Just look at yesterday, his supporters and campaign just straight up lied about the $15 min wage being voted down in the Dem Platform committee, when in fact no such event occurred and the $15 wage is officially part of the platform. They’re trying to invent reasons to revolt.

I had heard of him before this primary but not a lot of people had. He caught alot of people’s attention.

I knew of Mr. Sanders from his actions on veterans affairs. I think the primaries were worthwhile in that he was able to bring up his ideas (and those of others), and it allowed Mrs. Clinton to sharpen her own arguments and positions. It also allowed the Democratic Party to not look like we had a foregone conclusion from the start. (Though there is nothing wrong with that, there are those who would attack that idea.)

The primaries are over though, and Senator Sanders lost. I am not sorry I supported him, but I am disappointed in what’s going on now. It is frustrating.

Any candidate who runs for any office has to start with a conviction he or she will win (otherwise there is really no point, and the voters will quickly detect that). As I mentioned above, it is quite possible he started believing his own campaign rhetoric, or his staffers rhetoric.

At this point, Mr. Sanders should end the primary and return to his work in the Senate. He is still a good voice on the left there and can be a benefit if he chooses to be so.

re: #398 stpaulbear

62nd birthday today. I’ve been doing laundry at home and waiting for the severe weather to hit this evening. WeatherUnderground keeps crashing but I did manage to find this radar. It actually looks like the storm may be bypassing the Twin Cities, but it could just be that the storm is affecting the radar station in Chanhassen. It’s been oppressively hot and muggy all day. Radar looks really nasty to the north of the cities.

A very happy birthday to you St. Paul!

re: #405 goddamnedfrank

No, sorry but it’s him.

Just look at yesterday, his supporters and campaign just straight up lied about the $15 min wage being voted down in the Dem Platform committee, when in fact no such event occurred and the $15 wage is officially part of the platform. They’re trying to invent reasons to revolt.

I did not see that. Hmmm. That plays back to a) he is being manipulated, which undermines the idea he would be a good leader, or b) he is suffering from some sort of dementia or other problem similar to it.

If a), then he most certainly should not be president. If b), I would feel truly bad for him (and still should not be president).

re: #409 Anymouse

Yeah you shouldn’t be sorry. It’s just we both agree frustrating and disappointing. I don’t even blame him for staying until DC but I think after that he should have dropped out.

It is five o’clock here in the mysterious Mountain Time Zone. The town burger feed is starting over at the fire hall, so I am going to have to sign off. Catch y’all later, eh?
