FBI Will Recommend No Indictment for Hillary Clinton

Not a surprise
Law • Views: 45,412

Here’s the full statement from FBI director James Comey on the endless fake controversy over Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

There’s plenty of criticism of Clinton here, but the bottom line: there will be no indictment. Now we’ll see a whole lot of media “think pieces” on how this both helps and hurts Clinton.

I am happy that it was confirmed by the FBI. RWNJ and company will still harp on this and other items in order to keep the heat on HRC.

Seven ISIS fighters who fled the battlefield are BOILED ALIVE as punishment in Iraq

Terrorists ran away from a conflict in Sharqat in the Salahuddin province
Their hands and feet were bound tightly to make sure there was no escape
The hapless extremists were thrown into giant cauldron of boiling water
ISIS executed seven of its own fighters by boiling them alive as punishment for fleeing an Iraqi battlefield.

Pretty much sums up any time I try and dive into arguments online anymore. I’ve just generally given up trying because so often, it not only doesn’t work, but the seemingly ambivalent people observing dive in so hard on the right-wing side that it feels like all I’ve done is harm my position infinitely more than when I’ve started.

It honestly feels like the right wing gets to say anything and is treated like the most credible and honest thing ever and never has to put any effort into actual argument, and left wing gets treated like fucking pariahs from the get go and the best you can get out of anyone not already liberal in the argument is ‘both sides same thing’.

There’s a reason why I feel so goddamn despondent about politics whenever I comment anywhere.

It’s all about setting odds to get equal action on both sides. So you set “yes” at -1500 (you have to bet $1500 to win $100) and you set “no” at +900 (bet $100 to win $900), as the opening lines, see what kind of action you get and then adjust accordingly.

Holy fucking shit….Rod Dreher went white nationalist today:

In a very long but rewarding essay, the British writer Alastair Roberts carefully compares and contrasts the Leave side with the Remain-ders. It’s the best thing I’ve yet seen explaining the culture and worldview of both sides. Excerpts:

In many parts of the country where the population is overwhelmingly White British, genetic study has revealed the remarkable stability of their population over at least the last 1400 years (Celtic populations in the British Isles date back over a millennium more). One can still trace the borders of ancient kingdoms in the genetics of regional populations. Before the modern wave of immigration, the Anglo-Saxons were the principal newcomers—the Norman invasion in 1066 didn’t bring about a great demographic change. These unsettling and violent waves of immigration and invasion were generally from ethnic, geographic, cultural, religious, and political near neighbours (for instance, William the Conqueror, who led the Norman invasion, was the first cousin once removed of Edward the Confessor, giving him some claim to the English throne).

The last 70 years have witnessed a demographic upheaval on a scale unprecedented in well over a millennium, which has introduced a remarkable degree of ethnic, cultural, and religious diversity beyond anything witnessed in any previous period of our history. Against the popular political trope of Britain as a nation of immigrants, the reality is that, apart from relatively small trickles of immigration—mostly to London and the South East and largely intra-European immigration of culturally and religious proximate populations—most of the country has been ethnically stable and relatively unchanged for many hundreds of years.

This is something we Americans cannot comprehend. Nor would most of us want to even try. But think about it: what is wrong with those people wanting to keep their country as it has been for 14 centuries?

Rod cuts and pastes several thousand words more (gotta keep that word count up, right) but this passage is real special:

Heightened individual autonomy also leads to the crumbling of national, regional, local, class, cultural, religious, and other solidarities and loyalties, removing resistance and friction. Broken down by the neoliberal market government, persons are deracinated and homogenized. While cosmopolitans experience this as a liberating and unshackling impulse, provincials experience it as an assault upon their settled ways of life. The ‘growth of the economy’—the great neoliberal imperative—takes priority over the thriving of the community; ‘individual autonomy’ takes priority over social solidarity; the movement of a radically depersonalized, departicularized, and homogenized ‘labour’ takes priority over the rootedness and the preservation of socially dignifying forms of local industry.

Individual autonomy and erasing racial boundaries.
If only they had the power to keep women and faggots and blacks in their place and everybody had to go to church and learn real community values, it would all be so perfect…

The Gun (capitalized since he seems to hold it in such reverence) made it possible for you to do so in that manner to begin with, you nitwit. Yes, people kill people, but guns make it all the more possible. And unlike with say a knife, an iron, or other objects with potential lethal effects on a young child when left unattended or used improperly, a gun literally has no other use but to shoot at things.

So yes, user error, but this is why being able to require prospective users to know their shit and safely operate and store these things should be a thing, instead of creeping closer and closer to mandatory gun ownership without question.

The ‘growth of the economy’—the great neoliberal imperative—takes priority over the thriving of the community;

Now that ´point at least is a viable argument: if the change is not for the better (although that is sometimes a subjective call) then people are right to oppose it.

We have seen that in American agriculture: gone is the happy farmer with his pigs, chickens, goats, and fields sown with various market crops: he is now a supplier, usually of a single commodity crop that serves as raw material for industrial processing

He badly damages his observation by tying it to racial purity.

‘GunnyTime’ host R. Lee Ermey ‘blackballed’ from Hollywood for conservative views

“Do you realize I have not done a movie in five to six years? Why? Because I was totally blackballed by the… liberals in Hollywood,” he alleged. “They can destroy you. They’re hateful people [who] don’t just not like you, they want to take away your livelihood… that’s why I live up in the dessert on a dirt road… I don’t have to put up with their crap.” (emphasis added)

Is “living in the dessert” anything like “high on the hog?” Guess not since it seems to be a source of complaint.
Politics aside, Ermey is a decent actor but he was seriously type-cast (and worked very hard to help it happen) and now, at 72, he is too old to play those roles when they do come along.

An open letter to R. Lee Ermey:

Gunny, for the most part, you’re a one-note actor, playing on your experience in the Marines; hell, it’s how you wound up getting your big break in Full Metal Jacket. But, I’ll wager there is no grand liberal conspiracy to keep you out of work in Hollywood, it’s just that your time has pretty much come and gone; very few actors and actresses are have enough talent, versatility, and humility to keep a high-profile career going long after most mortals would be retiring, and you were already behind the 8-ball since you came into acting relatively late in your life.

If Gunny Hartman, the character that brought you to fame in FMJ, were real and had heard you whining about being “blackballed” in Hollywood, I guarantee he would give you a berating much harsher than you ever actually gave in the movie.

Ok, let’s walk through this, very simply:

Marriage is a legal agreement between two people over the age of majority. Your laptop is not a person, it is personal property. You cannot marry your laptop because it is not a person and thus does not have the ability to give consent. This is the same reason you cannot marry your dog or your cat or your goldfish - none of those things are a person, thus they are incapable of giving the required consent.

It looks like Zakir Naik inspired the attacks in Bangladesh.

Interesting. I learned that Naik is banned from entering Canada and the UK.

The Times of India says another inspiration was Anjem Choudary, who is currently awaiting trial on terrorism charges in the UK.

An Open Letter to Jared Kushner, From One of Your Jewish Employees

Dear Mr. Kushner,

My name is Dana Schwartz and I’m an entertainment writer at The Observer, the paper owned by your publishing company. On July 2, as I’m sure you’re aware (and have probably been wringing your hands about for the last three days), your father-in-law Donald Trump tweeted out an image of Hillary Clinton in front of raining money with a six-sided star declaring she’s the “Most Corrupt Candidate Ever!”

I responded to the meme calling out its blatant anti-Semitic imagery because people can play ignorant, blame the corrupt liberal media for trying to “get” Trump, but it takes only a basic knowledge of world history or an understanding of how symbols work to see a wall of cash, a Star of David, and the accusation of corruption and not see the subtext.

and only an idiot could look at the original source of that image (an anti-Semitic right wing website) and not see the connection.

Dear conservatives,

Are you getting what the feeling is like when you are so sure someone is going to be indicted and tried for a crime and yet someone in a power position decides no crime was actually committed and the person you are sure broke the law is free to go about their business?

Yeah, you are you say. And you don’t like it. It makes you want to hit the streets and protest. Outrageous is the claim, there is a cover-up, this is wrong!

Then keep that feeling in mind the next time a policeman is allowed to go free when a city prosecutor finds the policeman did nothing wrong when a person of color was shot to death by the policeman in a case where there is plenty evidence making it pretty clear the policeman had no reason to shoot other than that is what they do if they think it is justified to shoot.

I think there is a whole segment of our society that would like an explanation why you are so outraged today about the handling of emails, where no one died, but you make plenty of excuses for people getting shot by cops needlessly. I think what that is what is called wanting to keep it real.

Signed,

The American Public.

Some people aren’t clear on the concepts involved.

The IRS is quite clear about tax evasion and carelessness. That’s what audits and administrative actions are for. They have an entire process built around trying to make sure that people pay the obligations required.

The State Department’s email process has been in shambles from the outset. It wasn’t any better under Clinton. It needs to be fixed. But it didn’t rise to level of criminal action.

The crimes alleged require intent… and there wasn’t in.

I have a friend who is real a Bernie-or-Bust type. He spends all of his time on Reddit, apparently lapping up every half-baked crackpot post that comes down the pike. I know this because he forwards many of them to me. He is devastated that the FBI isn’t preparing to frog-march Hillary into a jail cell and is convinced that the only reason no charges have been filed is because Lynch will cover for her and decline to prosecute.

He’s talking about not voting at all, voting for Trump “just to burn the whole rotten system down,” and/or moving to Canada. Nothing about staying and fighting for his principles, or getting involved in the Democratic party the way Bernie has asked his followers to do. Nope, the system is crooked, so the only logical recourse is to willingly renounce any and all political power and hide from the consequences of a Trump presidency.

So, it’s safe to say that I won’t be taking his views seriously any more. Bob Cecsa had it right; the last thing the progressive movement is problems with fact-free propoganda and its own epistemic closure, but that seems to be the route we’re headed down.

It was a nice Republic, while it lasted.
