Why Is Donald Trump Jr. Following White Supremacists on Twitter?

A chip off the old block
Politics • Views: 122,622

If you follow politics on Twitter you’ll eventually run into the “alt-right” cavemen — a group of antisemites, neo-Nazis and white supremacists who make no attempt at all to hide what they’re about. “Alt-right” is just the latest term they’re using; in the past they’ve called themselves “race realists,” “racialists,” “nationalists” and a host of other lofty-sounding names, but the hatred always remains the same.

Today, Buzzfeed’s Rosie Gray noticed that Donald Trump Jr., who has been taking a large role in his father’s campaign, had “liked” a tweet by one of the worst and most active of these “alt-right” freaks on Twitter:

So I got curious and took a look at the list of people Trump Jr. is following on Twitter — and there was @Ricky_Vaughn99 (probably a fake name, of course). A screenshot:

Some recent tweets by this guy who’s being followed by the son of the Republican Party’s nominee for president of the US:

His Twitter timeline is absolutely full of this kind of hateful garbage; there’s no way Trump Jr. could possibly have missed it. Yet he chose to follow this guy.

And that’s not all. In the screenshot above you can see that Trump Jr. is also following @Bidenshairplugs, who uses a picture of Joe Biden with a Hitler mustache for his avatar. This guy may be even worse than @Ricky_Vaughn99.

It’s pretty clear that Donald Trump isn’t the only one with an affinity for white supremacists and neo-Nazi types. It runs in the family.

I keep failing to catch up or I would have extended my sympathies several threads ago. Believe me, I know what it’s like. It will take a while for only the good memories to remain, but it will happen. You have to do what’s right, and you’d feel even worse if you’d put it off too long. Trust me on that, too. Twin Cities is getting pounded by severe storms this evening. I drove home from South Minneapolis about 6:30 and lots of branches were down. I had to detour about a mile from my home because a tree was over the road. I was glad to see no tree damage in my neighborhood when I got home. I don’t really have to worry about flash flooding because my house sits on a hill and all routes away from my house lead into the Mississippi River valley. Storms still suck.

You don’t have to sign up for it. If your phone is geographically in the zone, they’ll make sure you the warnings get to your number.

re: #96 Jenner7

A few days ago, a guy on the Raw Story site claimed he is an Obama supporter and went on to say that he doesn’t understand why some of us Black Americans still get upset over being compared to monkeys, chimpanzees, and other animals. My simple response to him was because it never stops, there’s always going to be someone who makes that comparison, and that he’s needs to experience what it’s like to understand. I have always found it very strange that some who always claim to believe that God made us in his own image seem to believe that some of the humans he created are animals. If this is what they actually believe, they do not believe that God created man in his own image, but then, I’m viewing this matter from a logical POV when they’re not.

There’s an emergency alerting system on new smartphones. It’s independent of any weather programs and it’s geographically-based, for things like Amber Alerts.

Thanks. Good to know. This is the first warning I’ve received and it freaked me out because I didn’t know where it was coming from.

Some pretty amazing thunder and lightning moving through St. Paul right now. I should be getting pounded with rain in a few minutes. Hopefully the high winds are over.

America, 2016:

Court says KKK’s free speech rights violated, can adopt Georgia highway based on legal technicality

Well, I can’t think of one redeeming quality of the Klan (maybe cleaning up a highway in Georgia might be it). That said, as long as the Klan is not specifically an illegal organisation, they have the same free speech rights as everyone else, which would include putting their name on a highway clean-up sign.

That said, states have rules about how often groups must do those clean-ups, and if they don’t do them, that would be grounds for complaints to have the sign removed.

GASTON COUNTY—A Shelby Navy veteran needs some help finding his service dog.

David Dowell says he suffers from PTSD after two tours in Iraq and work in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

Dowell says he went to his first fireworks show in years in Dallas, Monday, but his dog Milka got spooked and ran away.

Dowell says it’s very difficult to operate without his dog.

“Having a service dog gives you your life back. And it gives you your life back without the medication, without the heavy narcotics and all the different thing the VA gives you. She is my best medicine,” he said.

If you’ve seen Milka (pictured above) Dallas police would like you to give them a call at[no phone numbers allowed].

To Belafon…

This is something that someone sent to me after we had to part ways with our dog Cody three years ago. I hope it gives you the same solace it gave me.

“Dogs’ lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can’t support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion. There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price. Maybe loving dogs is a way we do penance for all the other illusions we allow ourselves and the mistakes we make because of those illusions.”

Manafort’s an amoral mercenary who sold himself to killers long ago. Trump is nothing by comparison to his other clients.

“…Many of the world’s dictators eventually became his clients. “Name a dictator and Black, Manafort will name the account,” Levine wrote. (Levine’s piece, published in Spy, featured a sidebar ranking the ethical behavior of Washington lobbyists: It found Black, Manafort the worst of the bunch.) The client list included Philippine strongman Ferdinand Marcos (with a $900,000 yearly contract) and the despots of the Dominican Republic, Nigeria, Kenya, Equatorial Guinea, and Somalia. When the Center for Public Integrity detailed the firm’s work, it titled the report “The Torturers’ Lobby.”slate.com

I beg to differ

From 4 U.S. Code § 8 - Respect for flag

(j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart

I am guessing it was more of a therapy dog than a service dog. The terms get mashed together a lot, but are definitely different and subject to different levels of training and assessment.

On another note, I took my dog with me to a fireworks show on the fourth when she was only 6 months old…horrible idea, I think she was traumatized. Moonie Times lies, derps, freepers go apeshit:
Matt Damon calls for U.S. to ban guns ‘in one fell swoop’

Hollywood actor Matt Damon used a press conference in Australia over the Fourth of July weekend to discuss his desire for a massive confiscation of U.S. guns. “You guys did it here in one fell swoop [in 1996] and I wish that could happen in my country, but it’s such a personal issue for people that we cannot talk about it sensibly,” Mr. Damon said during a promotional engagement in Sydney for the movie “Jason Bourne.” The action star went on to say people get too “emotional” when it comes to “not selling AK47s to people on terror watchlists.”

Problem: Australia has not enacted a general ban on guns, let alone staged a “massive confiscation.” They did ban semi-automatic firearms, and bought (not “confiscated”) the ones that were out there. Freepers of course are either unaware of, or do not care about, the facts:

The obligatory shot at the Hildabeast:

“Now that Hilary will not be indicted, this is actually one step closer to reality”

.

Let’s hear it for the Constitution, but starting with Amendment 2:

“How about we ban Hollywood movies in one fell swoop?”

A real charmer:

“Ah, that’s it. This picture [of Damon] clearly shows evidence of Down’s Syndrome.
He really is a drooling half-wit.
Good thing dubbing was invented. Wonder what his real voice sounds like.”

Obviously freepers would loathe Cambridge, England and Mass both. They are whole towns full of smart people:

“What does anyone expect? The little snot is from Cambridge.”

Matt’s opinion counts no more or less than Wayne LaPierre’s. Let’s split the difference.

The difference is that people typically tell the truth about LaPierre’s opinions. Anyone who suggests any kind of gun control, otoh, is automatically calling for forcible confiscation of everything more powerful than a short slingshot.
My take on Damon’s remarks is that he would favor an Australian style buy-out on semi-auto guns.

Like most dictators, Saddam Hussein tortured and killed “terrorists”—any leftist or moderate group that talked about human freedoms, plus any minority…like the Kurds and the Iraqi Jews…that could be used as scapegoat for the plunder system inherent to their governance—while only landing on violent extremists when their violence couldn’t be appropriated for or directed against enemies of the state.

I don’t think this is lost on the audience, that they’re enthusiastic because there’s a gap in their imagination. I think it embodies what they want: a state that’s free to suppress and disappear, so long as it doesn’t target “real Americans.”

So the House GOP is going to haul Comey before them to grill him on why he did not give them the promised indictment, after months of assuring anybody who’d listen about how he doesn’t play politics and his decision would be based upon the evidence. I remember several years ago doing the BRAT (Bike Ride Around Tennessee) and out layover day was at Reelfoot Lake State Park. It’s a raptor rehab center, and the chief ranger there gave us a great presentation. Talked about the work they do, then brought out some of the birds. The first was a little screech owl, everybody went “ohh and Ahhh”, then a barn owl, and he looked a little more serious. Then a red tailed hawk, and he was pretty impressive.

Finally he brought out a bald eagle that they have had for 10 years, and all of us just moved back on our benches as far as we could. That thing looked at you like he was figuring out the angle and time it would take to get there.

The ranger explained that if the bird has a clean break on the wing bones, they have a very good chance of being released back into the wild. A break in the ‘shoulder’ joint usually meant they would spend the rest of their lives in the center, they never healed quite right.

With the Tory leadership resigning, the Labour leader under attack and blindly holding onto fantasies, and now the UKIP leadership in turmoil… this is what secessionist fever hath wrought.

And more.

This is what isolationists, whether in the UK or in the US or anywhere, has to face: increases in population require closer cooperation across boundaries in order for specialization to occur to produce the goods and services needed.

Ultimately the fear of the other, xenophobia, is bad for the economic engines needed in our growing planetary population.

At my sister’s job out here, she helped with the raptors (since they had a few - like those - that were part of the education center). Her primary bird was an owl - larger than a screech owl, but I can’t remember the exact type. The screech owl was just a little ball of fluff.

At the very end of the year, each intern got to hold the golden eagle on the glove in the mews. She thankfully had the cast come off two days before, so we looked a little bit the other way on the weight restrictions on lifting and wrapping and she held the eagle for a minute because when else are you going to get to do that?

Hell of a bird.

And now add two more UK real estate funds that have closed withdraws in addition to Standard Life:

Reacting to a rush by investors to redeem their money, M&G Investments and Aviva Investors followed Standard Life Investments in suspending trading in commercial-property funds that together total 9.1 billion pounds ($11.9 billion dollars). Industry analysts have warned that London office values could fall by as much as 20 percent within three years of the U.K. leaving the EU.

‘Fire Sale’ Risk

A risk for the economy is that the property funds are forced to sell assets at “fire sale rates,” hitting the commercial sector, said Robin Henry, a partner in the London law firm Collyer Bristow.

Aviva bemoaned a “lack of immediate liquidity,” while M&G noted redemptions “have risen markedly because of high levels of uncertainty.” Regulators discussed the Brexit fallout with asset managers on Tuesday in previously scheduled meetings.

During the last financial crisis, real estate funds were forced to suspend operations after withdrawals surged, contributing to a property-market slump that saw values drop more than 40 percent from their peak in the U.K.

London property prices were batshit insane to begin with; so this could be the bubble bursting/market correcting.

NYT declares:

F.B.I. Findings Damage Many of Hillary Clinton’s Claims

[…]

Mr. Comey’s announcement was, arguably, the worst possible good news Mrs. Clinton’s presidential campaign could have hoped for: no criminal charges, but a pointed refutation of statements like one she flatly made last August. “I did not send classified material,” she said then.

“Even if information is not marked classified in an email, participants who know, or should know, that the subject matter is classified are still obligated to protect it,” Mr. Comey said, suggesting that Mrs. Clinton and her aides were “extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information.”

[…]

Well, ok, but that a government official may have information that should be classified but is not formally so is not uncommon.

And in fact, it is probably so common that many Congressmen and staffers could fall under this damnation.

As well as many officials in the State department, or even the Defense.

Once I had a former aide to the CNI tell me that they were cautious about what to tell Congress because of what could get out.

Fundamentally, while the issue is real, it is also ubiquitous.

This is what the NYT headline and writer seems to miss - Hillary Clinton is like so many other government officials - at times careless about information control.

In my world, this is about the least damning of faults of a politician. Because ultimately the entire culture of classification is itself counter-productive to an open society, and we probably have kept far too much way too classified.

Hey, he could get things done, great things, better than you would believe. When some of his airplane flunkies fell behind on deliveries, he sent them a letter:

You have let down our country and our Red Army. You have the nerve not to manufacture IL-2s until now. Our Red Army now needs IL-2 aircraft like the air it breathes, like the bread it eats. Shenkman produces one IL-2 a day and Tretyakov builds one or two MiG-3s daily. It is a mockery of our country and the Red Army. I ask you not to try the government’s patience, and demand that you manufacture more ILs. This is my final warning.

With him, it wasn’t “you’re fired,” it was “your firing squad.” Production went up, way up. It was HUGE.

I once classified Saddam as a “load-bearing dictator” and I stand by that. So much of the problems we face today in the Middle East are because we recklessly knocked him out of power without a concrete plan to deal with the fallout. Then we doubled down on our error by running everybody with even a modicum of understanding of how politics worked in Iraq out of power, so that the only ones left were either inept, corrupt, or both.

I argued against deposing Hussein for a couple reasons. In no particular order:
Hussein kept Iraq in one piece. He was the only thing between Iraq and another failed state like Afghanistan.
Iran and Iraq sort of served as checks and balances against each other. As much as we dislike the Saudis’ support of terrorism, we needed stability in any form in that area for a lot of reasons.
Invading Iraq would be a distraction from the real threats to our national security like Pakistan. Pakistan already HAD nuclear weapons and an unstable government.
In 1991 the same crew who that Desert Storm had to stop where it did because we couldn’t afford to depose Hussein then threw away their own counsel and urged for regime change.

If you ever wonder why we’re not more widely loved an respected, think about the mindset embodied in this post. I’m not blaming you, because it’s something I’ve said myself, and I certainly understand it.

But think about it - we, meaning the US and the UK and other Western Powers, set up this chess board. We drew the borders, we put different people in power over millions and millions of people because it served OUR interest.

We put the Shah in place in Iran, and maintained him in power over the increasing objections of his people and supported him in brutal repression, or at least turned a blind eye to it, because it served our interest.

Then when the people finally rose up, we were shocked to find they didn’t like us.

So what did we do? We supported Saddam in his war against Iran, again turning a blind eye to gas attacks on the Iranians, because it served our interest.

Then he overstepped by invading Kuwait. Oops.

We painted him as the Next Hitler, gathered a coalition, and kicked his ass back out of Kuwait, but then we stopped. We didn’t overthrow him or help any of the folks we’d urged to rebel to overthrow him either, because that wouldn’t have been in our interest.

So he killed a bunch of them, and we didn’t stop him, because it served our interest.

Then we got the idea we could overthrow him and a Western-style pluralistic democracy would take root there, and that would be in our interest. So we invaded and kicked over the ant hill. And we let the Shiites dominate the government, angering the Sunnis, because it served our interest.

I know it’s a long lifetime too late, but maybe we shouldn’t be so eager to make decisions for tens of millions of people, because we think it’s in our interest?
