Live Video of a Dying Party: GOP Convention: Night of the Trumpenstein

It’s alive
Politics • Views: 46,755

YouTube

Welp, folks, here we go again. Tonight’s the main event in the Horrifying Circus of the Absurd we’re calling a presidential campaign, as Donald Trump prepares to assert his dominance yet again over the shattered and gasping remnants of the Republican Party.

If you’ve ever seen a speech by Donald Trump, you know what this will sound like; he never deviates much from his pattern of egomaniacal boasting and crackpot nativism. But those who’ve seen a leaked draft of the speech have been recoiling in horror on Twitter, saying it reminds them of Pat Buchanan without the Bible-thumping.

Speaking of Bible-thumping, we’re opening with a speech by Tony Perkins, the fanatically anti-gay religious loon who purchased a mailing list from Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, way back when.

The RNCon has been successful so far, in that it is intended to boost the passions of the electorate and drive them to greater effort on behalf of their candidate. My gorge is rising, and I’m certainly going to do more for my candidate.

Some of the best anti-Trump material really does come from the other side. Here’s a gem from RedState in response to the Ted Cruz statement that he wouldn’t be Trump’s servile puppy dog.

In other news, Trump took Christie to the vet to get his rabies and distemper boosters and Trump talked to the vet about how well it has gone since Christie was neutered.

If anybody has sirius, listen to make it plain with mark thompson. They put steve king on with april ryan to try and rebut the crap he said about white civilization made more contributions than any other people. He statements are so stupid and totally opposite to rational thinking that in his mind and he believes that he si right, but yet to anybody else, they are totally out of touch with reality. And he is such a smooth talker that to some people, he sounds totally credible.
The only thing i dont like about these reporters is that there is so much material to use against these people, but yet they dont load up on this before they interview them. The result is these slick talikng rasist right wing politicians can spew so many lies at rapid fire pace that there is no way to counter them off the top of your head, and then they sound like they are refuting you with rational thoughts.

De Kolta Chair  Jul 21, 2016 • 4:59:00pm

So I’m washing the dishes and Brian Williams points out (on the tv not in my kitchen) that the band on the convention stage is led by G.E. Smith, former SNL blah blah blah, and I shout “Tell the 2012 story!” and my wife says “Okay, I’ll bite. What’s the 2012 story?” And I reply, in so many words, that the story goes that in 2012, after a quickly forgotten gig at the GOP convention, GE showed up at the Democratic convention and asked if he could jam with that band and they threw him out of the joint because he played at the GOP convention.”

Anyway, that’s the story I heard from a friend of a friend who was there. Anyone remember anything vaguely resembling that anecdote?

Don’t want to seem like I’m knocking GE Smith, who I caught ages ago playing lead for Dylan at the Greek in Berkeley and he kept that wacky band in order, especially after Neil Young came out and played his anarchic heart out for a lot of the show. Good times.

Sullivan says the Trump speech is Triumph of The Will:

This is a very new departure for politics in a liberal democracy. We’ve never heard an appeal from a major party platform to junk traditional democratic norms, and cede power to a new tyrant, whose magical powers will somehow cause almost every problem in the country to disappear. In this election, the very basis of liberal democracy is on the ballot. The fears I expressed last May about the popularity of tyranny in a late-democracy have, I’m afraid, only been fanned by events since.

The speech is entirely about fear, to be somehow vanquished by a single man’s will to power. Its core message is what America was founded to resist. Its success would be an abolition of the core promise of this country for two centuries - that self-government is incompatible with the rule by the whims and prejudices and impulses of a man on a white horse.

But the left’s abandonment of empiricism and liberalism - its rapid descent into neo-Marxist dogma, its portrayal of American history as a long unending story of white supremacy, its coarse impugning of political compromise and incrementalism, its facile equation of disagreement with bigotry - has also played a part.

Mind you, the FBI gathers the data from all the reporting local/state law enforcement agencies; they’re not reporting the data directly. This is a compilation of data from something like 10,000 law enforcement agencies. So, it isn’t the FBI, but all the local LEOs doing it, and that’s a conspiracy all the way down.

Warmer to much-warmer-than-average conditions dominated across much of the globe’s surface, resulting in the highest temperature departure for June since global temperature records began in 1880. This was also the 14th consecutive month the monthly global temperature record has been broken—the longest such streak in NOAA’s 137 years of record keeping.

But don’t tell the GOP convention goers.

The danger of this is greatly reduced with an asshole loose cannon like Trump as the candidate.

For example, Trump’s stupidity on NATO is going to get called out over the next few days by senior Democrats and Republicans who’d prefer not to see World War III.

Trump will provide many other such stupidities going forward.

However, the polls are too close, and the Democrats have little margin for error.

I hope he fucking blows it. This week has made me hate him way more than I did prior. That’s my bump.

I expect him to appear carrying pikes with Hillary’s and Cruz’s heads on them. The crowd would cheer for half an hour.

Roger Stone, Alex Jones plot primary challenge to Cruz

Two controversial figures on the right met late Wednesday night over drinks to plot a primary challenge to Ted Cruz after the Texas senator refused to endorse Donald Trump at the Republican convention here.

Renegade GOP operative Roger Stone said he and Infowars founder Alex Jones, a conspiracy theorist, are planting the seeds to ensure Cruz is sent packing from Washington when his first term ends in 2018.

I am seeing analysis of the Trump speech that this is 1968 Nixon/Buchanan populist resentment gold. People who do not like Trump are saying this speech may be good enough to win this election.

I know my parents are eating this stuff up. Law and order elderly whites are looking for the law and order strongman.

I’m genuinely frightened, gang. The polls are too fucking close and something is badly wrong in the polity for that to be happening. Every shooting of a cop, every demonstration, every terror attack and every incident overseas is going into the Trump chaos narrative.

this isn’t 1968. the demographic shift between 1968 and 2016 is enormous. the polls aren’t that close. Don’t be scared by media horse-racing. In national polls, Trump is close. In state-by-state polling, Trump is basically eliminated. This is like chess. Oh, looks like the RNC succeeded in creating jobs after all:

Male escorts are making crazy money at the RNC

Male prostitutes contacted by The Post said business is booming and Republican National Convention attendees — most of them married — are clamoring for their services.

“Business has been way better. I’ve seen 10 clients so far,” one male escort said.

“Most of them were first-timers. You could tell they were nervous, but once they became more comfortable, they seemed to be having a good time.”

Another escort said he had already earned $1,600 since Monday — over six times the amount he usually makes.

“I normally only make $200 to $300, but I’ve been seeing lots of guys in hotels downtown,” he said, noting the boom in business near the Quicken Loans Arena.

The clientele has included mostly married white men between the ages of 40 and 50, said another escort who’s seen eight johns so far.

Thiel doesn’t have to worry about the fact that Bryan Fisher would like to burn Thiel at the stake. Thiel has enough personal power (via his wealth) to prevent that from ever happening.

If Bryan Fisher burns other GLBT people at the stake, that’s not Thiel’s problem. It’s the victims fault for not being powerful enough to prevent that.

This has been a small reminder of the nature of Libertarianism.

re: #458 William of Orange

She can talk about growing up in rural America, but the one thing she can’t say is that her butt was relegated to using “Blacks Only” public facilities that her parents’ taxes supported. She could go anywhere her parents wanted to go and be welcomed with wide open arms. My parents were homeowners and paid taxes, but we all had restrictions placed on where we could go when it came to using public facilities their tax money helped to pay for. It’s a strange thing , but I never saw any of those today who are yearning for the past sitting beside me in the back of buses where I had to sit when I was growing up.
