Trump Surrogate Gen. Flynn Retweets Blatant Antisemite, Then Says It Was a “Mistake”

Oopsie!
Politics • Views: 50,295

So today, this happened.

Trump surrogate Gen. Michael Flynn, who was at one point reportedly on the short list to be Donald Trump’s running mate, retweeted an overt antisemite ranting about Jews.

When people started reacting to this disgusting tweet, he deleted it, of course, and is now claiming it was just an innocent “mistake.” He says he meant to retweet a CNN article.

The person he retweeted “by mistake” has a timeline absolutely packed with racism and antisemitism. How do you accidentally retweet someone like this? And even if you accept his excuse, why was Flynn reading this person’s antisemitic tweet in the first place?

There sure do seem to be a lot of these sorts of “mistakes” coming from Trump, his sons, and everyone else associated with his campaign.

UPDATE at 7/24/16 12:07:06 pm by Charles Johnson

Taking a look through the list of people Gen. Flynn is following on Twitter reveals numerous “alt-right” and “white genocide” extremists (for example). And Flynn is also following rabid anti-Muslim hate group leader Pamela Geller.

I’ve been on Twitter for 6+ years and AFAIK I’ve never “accidentally” tweeted an antisemite or racist in an approving way. Strange, huh? I’m Muslim and we’re supposedly all Islamist supremacists who hate Jews and think we’re better than everyone who isn’t Muslim, yet it’s the self-described Christians who claim to have a big tent and love Jews & Israel that keep tweeting this crap.

From the same WaPo article: I see he has doubled down on the extortion of our NATO allies as a way to replenish our coffers (or more likely to fill his pockets somehow—money laundering, anyone?) Emphasis mine:

Trump repeatedly said that McConnell is “100 percent wrong” and that as president he would demand that NATO countries that can afford to pitch in and help pay for their own defense do so.

“So all I’m saying is they have to pay,” Trump said. “Now, a country gets invaded, they haven’t paid, everyone says, ‘Oh, but we have a treaty.’ Well, they have a treaty, too. They’re supposed to be paying. We have countries within NATO that are taking advantage of us. With me, I believe they’re going to pay. And when they pay, I’m a big believer in NATO. But if they don’t pay, we don’t have, you know, Chuck, this isn’t 40 years ago. This isn’t 50 years ago. It’s not 30 years ago. We’re a different country today. We’re much weaker. Our military is depleted. We owe tremendous amounts of money.” […]

So POTUS as Mafia boss demanding payment for protection. ‘Cause, y’know, if you refuse he might send Putin & the Russian military to have a talk with you: “Nice little country you have there. It would be a shame in anything happened to it…”

I can’t believe this shit. Seriously. WTF, GOP??

I don’t even think this is about the berniebros now. It is about the Democratic Party, the success of this convention and electing Hillary.

The anti-Hillary forces won’t contribute, so what’s the point?

re: #92 Nyet

I posted from a NYT article (I think) that she’s being stubborn on this and doesn’t think it’s a big deal. Which alone should disqualify her. At a time when unity against Trump is more important than ever there should be no petty distractions.

The party chair’s job, Democrat or Republican, culminates in the party’s presidential convention; forcing DWS out now disrupts not only the planning and execution of the upcoming Democratic convention, but gives the Republican and media vultures one more bullshit thing to try to pin on Hillary and nag her with through to the general (and, believe me, I think that Hillary could have probably helped to force DWS out as party chair much, much sooner if she really wanted to; the fact that she didn’t should say something).

Frankly, at this point, any talk of forcing out DWS before the convention smacks of payback and revenge for her and the DNC letting Sanders run as a Democrat in the primary…and it stinks to high heaven. Sanders has conceded and endorsed Hillary at this point, so why give the Republicans a free shot to attempt to fracture the party before the convention?

Do I think that DWS should have been DNC chair while actively serving in Congress? Hell no; as I said above, both jobs are extremely demanding and should not be done by the same person.

It’s kinda hard to tweet a white supremacist or a KKK or any of the bigot brigade unless you’re seeking them out.

And anyone on Twitter can easily figure out who’s what from the company they keep on their twitter feeds, who they follow, and who they quote/retweet.

Make no mistake, the Trump clan has unleashed the bigot brigade in a way no other GOPer has ever before. He’s mainstreaming all these bigots - the white supremacists, the anti-Semites, the xenophobes, the Islamophobes. All of them.

GWB made a point to not make the GWOT about all Muslims. Trump is going out of his way to make it all Muslims - and anyone else who isn’t a white guy.

This is where the GOP under Trump is headed, but it’s also been moving down this road because of the incessant ignorance that the GOP has been peddling as its core policies for a generation or more.

So POTUS as Mafia boss demanding payment for protection. ‘Cause, y’know, if you refuse he might send Putin & the Russian military to have a talk with you: “Nice little country you have there. It would be a shame in anything happened to it…”

I can’t believe this shit. Seriously. WTF, GOP??

This is so very, very reckless. This is something that should make any sane conservative seize up like an Chevy V-8 run without oil. At what point did we decide that Putin’s authoritarian Russia was no big deal? Is it because they’re white? If we were pulling back from backing our allies in the fight against ISIS, that would be seen as treason.

But this? Somehow this is not only OK, but desireable?

The GOP has become entirely divorced from reality. A bunch of trolls with machine guns on Toyota trucks and Twitter accounts is a bigger threat than a hostile, paranoid nation with a deep-water navy, state of the art airforce and nuclear weapons?

It’s because ISIS plays better on Fox TV, and that is where these drooling simpletons get their worldview.

Don’t get me wrong…I think that DWS has been a complete disaster as DNC chair. From the complete lack of down-ticket recruiting and support of viable, competent candidates that saw the Democrats lose precious ground in Congress and on the state level in 2010 and 2012 to the entire shitshow that was Bernie’s Democratic challenge to Hillary, DWS has shown herself to be woefully in over her head trying to serve as party chair, in addition to being an active Congresswoman.

That said, I really don’t see the utility of forcing DWS out so close to the convention, especially since she has already resigned effective right after the conclusion of the convention; the time for that, IMNSHO, would have been months ago. All I see it doing is giving the Republicans and media vultures another bullshit talking point to hammer Hillary and the party through the convention and to the general.

People talk about how keeping DWS on as party chair through the convention as being “divisive”, so just how “divisive” would it be to basically throw her under the bus completely right before the convention, where we need to show a united front and a positive message?

WASHINGTON, DC—Republican officials are blaming tonight’s GOP losses on Democrats, who they claim have engaged in a wide variety of “aggressive, premeditated, anti-Republican campaigns” over the past six-to-18 months. “We have evidence of a well-organized, well-funded series of operations designed specifically to undermine our message, depict our past performance in a negative light, and drive Republicans out of office,” said Republican National Committee chairman Ken Mehlman, who accused an organization called the Democratic National Committee of spearheading the nationwide effort. “There are reports of television spots, print ads, even volunteers going door-to-door encouraging citizens to vote against us.” Acknowledging that the “damage has already been done,” Mehlman is seeking a promise from Democrats to never again engage in similar practices

I’m not poo-pooing Brazile as the interim chair at all; in fact, I agree with you that she is a major upgrade from DWS and I hope she ends up as the permanent chair. I’m just saying that, at a time when the Democrats need to reinforce to the nation that we are the party of positivity, inclusiveness, and hope (as opposed to the narcissist Il Douche and the emergence of an American fascist party in the Republicans), it might not look too good to force DWS out now when her resignation as party chair takes effect within a couple of weeks.

You know who’s going to save this country come November 8th? Latinos and African Americans.

FUCK this fascist and his racist supporters. WE GOT THIS.

Damn.

A lot easier to write from a state where African Americans haven’t “got this” more than a handful of times in history, and almost certainly won’t “have this” in 2016.

Hillary needs 36-40% of the white vote nationally to win. Her haters and her own feckless inability to show strength in confrontations like today’s are making it unlikely that she’ll get it.

re: #163 TedStriker

I’m not poo-pooing Brazile as the interim chair at all; in fact, I agree with you that she is a major upgrade from DWS and I hope she ends up as the permanent chair. I’m just saying that, at a time when the Democrats need to reinforce to the nation that we are the party of positivity, inclusiveness, and hope (as opposed to the narcissist Il Douche and the emergence of an American fascist party in the Republicans), it might not look too good to force DWS when her resignation as party chair takes effect within a couple of weeks.

In politics, more than anywhere else in modern American society, perception is reality.

Politics aint beanbag. If DWS has to fall on the sword, so be it. She brought a lot of this on herself, openly fighting with Bernie. Differences should have remained behind closed doors.

DWS’s resignation is yet another concession to Sanders that will avail her nothing during the convention or in November. Even a campaign as threadbare as Trump’s is laughing at her inability to set her own policies after a set of primaries that she won handily.

And the polls simply don’t support your confidence that those white voters are coming. I live in a state where Obama won less than 15% of the white vote twice. It’s definitely possible to make northern whites vote like southern whites.

My best friend is a Hungarian immigrant to the U.S., Iron Curtain child. Hates Putin with the hot fire of 10,000 suns.

He’s been on an anti-Hillary kick forever but wasn’t even mentioning Trump to me because he knew it would get ugly. I have the patience of Job with opposing views but I have a morality clause written into the friendship contract that Trump support violates.

He went there last week. Trump. After 30 years of friendship I told him we were done and he was so far gone he was supporting PUTIN. After a childhood spent in Communist Hungary under the Russians.

He took a day to stew on it. Then came back, contrite. “I have lost my f-ing mind, huh?” “Yes. Indeed you have. Get…a…grip, man.”

This is a moral issue for me now. My friends that supported Trump have been cut out of my life. There is no excuse for it.

FOP takes issue with convention speakers

Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 said in a statement that it was “insulted by the exclusion of police widows and family members” as speakers at the convention, from Monday to next Thursday.

“It is sad that to win an election Mrs. Clinton must pander to the interests of people who do not know all the facts, while the men and women they seek to destroy are outside protecting the political institutions of this country,” the statement read. “Mrs. Clinton you should be ashamed of yourself if that is possible.”

In the meantime, an unprecedented horde of protesters, disrupters, and crazies of every stripe are descending on Philly for the convention.
Protesters prepare to flood Philadelphia for convention
Needless to say, it will be very bad if there is major violence at the DNC convention after the relatively peaceful RNC convention (where the insane conduct was mostly on stage).
A lot of people, from Putin to the Westboro Baptist Church, would like nothing better.

All the talk I’m hearing wanting to force DWS out as party chair at this late date, right before the convention, when she’s going to be out right after it here in a couple of weeks, just in order to get ahead of the 24-hour news cycle and for it to be buried before the convention just sounds cold, cynical, triangulated, and calculating.

re: #233 A Mom Anon

That’s a question worthy of being asked on national TV.

My short answer: It’s because we’re all f*cking broke, and don’t know what to blame. I don’t know anybody who isn’t living basically paycheck-to-paycheck and in suppressed fear of a forced job change, health problem, or car problem, in that order. I’m talking about working middle-class people who should not be worried about these things. There is no “getting ahead” anymore. Any monetary gain seems to be immediately met with a raised rate somewhere, usually insurance or utility, but lately it’s been rents going up around here.

Maybe that’s been the way of it for everyone since always, I don’t know - I’ve only been a reasonably self-supporting adult for maybe the last six years out of my 37 lived, when I finally got a full-time job that paid enough to cover my essential expenses.

In my case, I had a bad couple of years piled on top of some indiscreet living (motorcycling is expensive, but it literally keeps me sane right now), so credit card payments vaporize my spare income, but I’m also single & socially isolated in a small apartment, not married with kids like almost everyone I know. They have things much worse than I do, even with combined incomes.

I’d say we’re being bled dry, but there’s nothing left to bleed anyway, all we have is stress from constantly trying to keep the wheels falling off.

We need breathing room!

(Earth, Trump, 2016!)

Thousands Hit Philadelphia’s Steamy Streets to Protest DNC

Thousands of demonstrators took to Philadelphia’s sweltering streets Sunday, cheering, chanting and beating drums in the first major protests ahead of the Democratic National Convention, as the city wilted during a heat wave.
Throngs of Bernie Sanders supporters marched down a main thoroughfare to show their support of him and disdain for Hillary Clinton ahead of the convention.

Chanting “Hell No, DNC, we won’t vote for Hillary” and “This is what democracy looks like,” the marchers headed from City Hall down Broad Street, the main north-south artery that leads from the city center to the convention site about 4 miles away.

There was also a giant puppet. Of course.

Yes. This was what I finally decided. I have put up with the BS that my former friends posted about Obama, their slavish devotion to Dubya, on and on. But their support of the fascist threatens our fundamental values as Americans.

I am going to have to make an even sadder decision about family members.
This is a new civil war in the making. But this one is going to be far uglier because it will not be a regional thing. It will be neighbor vs. neighbor, family member vs. family member. Absolutely no one is going to be better for it.

We are watching the whole thing fester on social media. And those who studied history; those who remember the past at all, know it.

What gets me about the whole Trump/Russia bit is that the people openly dismissing it are the same people who think donations to the Clinton Foundation are evidence that she is on the payroll of foreign paymasters. Isn’t that the entire “scandal” in a nutshell, foreigner gives money to the Foundation and automatically that makes them dictator over her actions? We’ve more evidence that Trump is dancing to Putin’s fife than we do that any donation to the Foundation led to an action on the part of the Clintons.

I think they’ll wait a couple weeks. The NY Times especially tends to be late to the party on such things. Gotta do their own reporting.

EDIT: As far as the rape thing goes, they’ve probably filed that with the accusations that Obama was a male prostitute in Chicago. And the rape claims would likely entangle Bill Clinton as well, to some extent.

PHILADELPHIA — A large, impassioned crowd of Bernie Sanders supporters — chanting “Hell, no, D.N.C., we won’t vote for Hillary” — marched on Sunday afternoon to the site of the Democratic National Convention, promising a week in which the party’s divisions will be on vivid display in the streets.

More than 1,000 people from as far as Seattle and Florida participated in the first of what are expected to be many Sanders rallies during the convention, which formally begins Monday. And these are the same types that any form of government surveillance is awful. I’m sorry but I don’t give a shit that the DNC said mean stuff about Sanders. You think that Weaver and Sanders had nice words to say about them in their communiques? I get that the DNC had to be neutral but one also has to realize that it was inevitable that the DNC would have some bias to Clinton who you know has actually been a Democrat and indeed helped many of these people get elected in the first place. They can call that cronyism or whatever but the fact is Bernie was never a Democrat in the first place and instead of being thankful that he was allowed to run as one, he spent a lot of his time trashing the party. I just don’t give a shit about the hurt feelings of Bernie supporters who don’t like that the DNC had people say mean things about him. Was it unprofessional? Sure but was it fucking unprofessional for a lot of the shit Bernie’s campaign did too, absolutely too.

Let me get this straight. The political organization that is meant to help Democrats win across the nation thought poorly of the guy who barely treated himself as a member of said organization, and constantly attacked the organization that helps Democrats.

That’s the sum total of the leaks that supposedly claim that there’s a conspiracy against Sanders that Wikileaks dumped - SSNs and credit card numbers and all (and on purpose!).

This is the biggest nothingburger since the last GOP-driven nothingburger. It’s almost as though Wikileaks pulled an ACORN out of their hat.

We’ve known that Wikileaks has been sitting on these leaks for a while. They were waiting for the time when they could do maximum damage and that happens to be prior to the convention.

But isn’t it the slightest bit curious why Wikileaks would target Democrats to the exclusion of others? Why Wikileaks keeps hitting US interests time and again? It’s not because there aren’t targets in say Russia that they can exploit. There’s tons of them. It’s just not part of their agenda.

Wikileaks is out to screw with the US political system by any means necessary. They’re the ultimate ratfuckers here and Russia is off lurking in the shadows benefiting from all this, and from a Trump presidency where Trump’s foreign policy is wrapped around shrinking away from Europe, limiting immigration from places like France and Germany, and hanging NATO out to dry while Putin looks to expand the sphere of influence in the most cost effective manner imaginable.

Jill Stein’s Green Party is such a revolutionary party of the future that it’s not even on the ballot in all 50 states but yeah I as a liberal voter should vote for them because Clinton isn’t perfect in her record. Riiiiiiight. Not to mention the Green Party doesn’t seem to really value building up a party locally at all. It’s the presidency or bust with them. We don’t even know who Stein’s running mate is. And we sure as hell don’t know who her key advisers are. Stein’s whole thing like Nader before her is “I’m the the true and only progressive running, vote for me because the Democrats aren’t totally perfect.” ANd you know what? If someone wants to vote for that, that’s their decision in the end but it’s a terrible way to build a party and ideology. The left wonders why they’re not taken seriously on their issues and it’s quite frankly because they approach things like the TP do. It’s all or nothing. I don’t support all trade agrreements but like wise I don’t see all trade agreements as evil either.

Here’s the thing guys. In 2020, the left will have a new Bernie. You know how I know that because I was around in 2004 when Howard Dean and to a smaller extent Dennis Kucinich were the Bernie. Every seriously contested Democratic primary, the left finds a darling that it projects its frustrations on to and when that candidate inevitably fails and it’s not due to collusion at the DNC, it’s due to the fact that those candidates are flawed, they get upset and they feel betrayed. Honestly, you feel betrayed by the DNC’s actions in regards to Bernie? Ask yourself how you would feel as a lifelong Democrat, someone who has like Tim Kaine spent his career in that party and working to make people’s lives better and some guy who has never even been in your party comes along and starts trashing it and its standard bearer and Bernie definitely did go after Obama. The left’s not innocent and I resent the hell of them acting like it’s just the big bad establishment that’s always the bad actor. DWS deserves to go. There’s no question about that but the left needs to realize that the Democratic Party is a big tent. It’s not just lefty activists.

Yeah exactly. It should be obvious to anyone who actually reads in between the lines that the Kremlin sees a Clinton presidency as a threat to them and they know that with Trump who actually admires Putin and actually disdains US allies that causing disunity is a good thing. Trump is not about proactively offering help. In his mind if you want help, you’ll come begging and pleading with him for it, preferably with your wallet open.

Then, if you make a strong enough case or put enough zeroes on the check, he might help you.

It’s the same bullshit CEO tactic of always needing to have leverage, always needing to hold the power.

Unfortunately international diplomacy doesn’t work like that so Trumps grandstanding shit won’t fly.

I think that what people who say “I wish she was a little more dovish” really mean is “I wish she didn’t have an actual record” because history shows there is no perfect Democratic president who was reluctant to use force enough to make everyone happy, though Obama comes really close.

Fascinating to see how much damage Bernie will do to the Democratic party by the time this is over.

The DNC very smartly scheduled Sanders as a keynote speaker on the first day of the convention. If they’re all out on the street bitching for Bernie after he’s committed to helping to elect Hillary, they’re going to look pointless.

On President Obama, I disagree with you; he has certainly been as willing to take military action when needed as W, Bill, and H.W. before him, it’s just not been as overt as W’s desert adventures (though a lot of Obama’s actions has certainly been offshoots of Iraq and Afghanistan operations).

To me, it’s the way it should be; no huge, questionable military invasions with hundreds of thousands of soldiers deployed initiated under his watch, but mainly tight, focused actions where they’re needed and have the maximum effect.

It’s also worth noting that nearly all the emails came after the New York primary that pretty much finished Bernie off. I mean, I’m sorry but I find it amusing that people who repeatedly curse the DNC and DWS are upset that the feelings went both ways. Exactly how I feel. The Sanders campaign pretty much called the most successful Democratic official (Obama) insufficiently progressive and the DNC rightfully saw a guy who they HAD helped raise money for, let me repeat that, the DNC helped Bernie raise money even when he wasn’t a Democrat so yeah they probably got pretty pissed to see Bernie trashing them and him promoting himself as the grand progressive poobah even though he had done little to nothing for other candidates over the years. I can see why the DNC had a problem with Bernie and Bernie’s campaign.

Took my son to Star Trek Beyond today. It’s a very action oriented tale for the series and yet there are a number of very surprising introspective and philosophical moments in it. I can’t say much as spoilers would ruin it badly. Suffice to say, if you like this version of Star Trek, this is probably the best so far.

8.5 out of 10 as a gut response right now. A little too lightweight but better than some of the worst efforts of the past (Final Frontier anyone? Ugh… though Shatner had the one line that saved the mess.) Rather reminds me of Day of the Dove in some respects.

As an aside, JJ has said Chekov will not be recast. Not sure what that means for movie 4 that was just approved but I think that’s the best possible option for the Star Trek of the Nero timeline.

If your a Star Trek fan or Geek in general, see it. It’s worth the money for the big screen - the first time I’ve said that in way too long.

Your honor, I never said that he fucked horses, I said I read that he fucked horses and that it might or not be true. Man, I don’t like Cruz at all but I don’t blame him for being pissed that Trump implied that his father was involved with a murder. Rafael Cruz is a terrible person but what Trump did was awful. Reince really showing how he really is a worse party chair than DWS with this shit.

A little to lightwieght but better than some of the worst efforts of the past (Final Frontier anyone? Ugh… though Shatner had the one line that saved the mess.) Rather reminds me of Day of the Dove in some respects.

As an aside, JJ has said Chekov will not be recast. Not sure what that means for movie 4 that was just approved but I think that’s the best possible option for the Star Trek of the Nero timeline.

If your a Star Trek fan or Geek in general, see it. It’s worth the money for the big screen - the first time I’ve said that in way too long.

I’ve heard that Karl Urban-as-Bones had some of the best moments of the movie; overall, I do think he’s done DeForrest Kelley proud.

Worst thing Donald Trump did? Nope not insulting POWs. Not the remark about Mexican-Americans. Not his gloating over the pound’s decreasing value. Making me feel sorry for Ted and Rafael Cruz. Okay, I jest there but I never ever thought I’d feel bad for Ted Cruz but Trump did by calling his father a murderer.

You know, I’m hoping that this experience has taught Bernie to be more of a team player. Losing to Obama I think taught Clinton that. Maybe it will do the same for Bernie. I don’t want him to be President but I’m okay with him shaping policy in the Senate for as long as the voters of his state want him to.

Wild guess here, but I assume there will another shitload of emails dumped each day of the DNC convention, with the networks bringing in unbiased Trump supporters to explain them to us.

I think if there was any “there” there, it would have dropped already. Better to start with a flood and maintain the trickle than the other way around.

What gets me most mad though about the BoBers is how they insist that they don’t owe Clinton a vote but they’d be expecting everyone to fall in line for Bernie if Bernie were the nominee. And you know what despite my reservations with Bernie’s approach, I’d happily do that. I’d rather a well meaning guy like Bernie than someone like Trump, Cruz, or any of the Republicans that ran so my humble question to the BoBers is why the hell can’t you give Clinton the same courtesy I’d give your candidate if the roles were reversed here. I wasn’t a huge Clinton fan. Hell for the longest time I didn’t even think I really wanted her to run but she’s showed me some things the past year that I was wrong about her.

I really hope this goes so poorly for them that this is the last we ever see them attempt office and the family is revealed to be worth nothing when Donald dies and the kids have to actually work real jobs rather than just coasting off Daddy’s name.

You know the thing is if someone ever released the people on wikileaks info, they’d go ballistic. That’s what gets me. These people are opposed to any sort of (well not really given their silence on Russia) surveillance by the West but they’re perfectly fine with releasing people’s private emails. I just don’t know how you can say the NSA scandal bothers you but then cheer as Assenge and friends hack other people’s info. Yep. There’s a couple of issues like that (Sulu’s daughter should not be born yet, forex) but I throw that into the who-gives-a-fuck pile in service of the story. They do a good enough job with that to make me not worry till hours after the movie is over. That’s no small thing.

And actually, now that I think about it, there is a bit in the ending regarding that academy that could give them a solution to his loss…

They want their asses kisses but God forbid you suggest that they actually look at the big picture. I’m sorry but I’m not going to risk getting Trump as President because a bunch of grown up children can’t get over that the party wasn’t too kind to a man who repeatedly trashed it even though he never was part of their party. As I said, Bernie loved bitching about the DNC’s big money but it wasn’t a problem for him when he needed money for his elections in the past and that was when he wasn’t even a Democrat. I’d like the BoBs of the world to explain if the DNC truly detested Bernie Sanders why they helped him get elected and furthermore why Clinton who they see as a “not real liberal” worked to get him elected. The DNC has done much more to get people like Bernie elected than Bernie has done to get people like Bernie elected and that’s the truth. Too bad the Berners don’t want to admit that because it gets in the way of their narrative about the ebil “neoliberals”.

I’ve just given up feeling bad for people who really literally look for any excuse to vote for anyone other than the Democrat they can. And that is their decision in the end but it also means they’re not the Democratic base either. I’ve voted for Democrats that I knew likely weren’t going to win before but I felt they were good people and good representatives of the party.

There’s that too. I mean I’m sorry but your sensitivity takes a back seat to the fact that there are a lot of people who will lose their rights if Trump becomes President and that he will ruin so much this country has built over the past generations. It’s not as if it’s a decent Republican that Clinton is running against. It’s by far the most toxic major party candidate in a long time.

Because Putin rides bareback, bare-chested and kills bears with his bare hands while Obama wears grandpa jeans and rides a bicycle with a helmet. They have a weakness for brutish manliness that causes them to overlook other minor shortcomings like authoritarianism and militarism.

re: #174 Brian J.

In which northern states did Obama win only 15% of the white vote? His worst performances up north were along the lines of 40% of the white vote. OTOH, he only got 10-15% of the vote in most deep south states. That’s a huge discrepancy. And remember that Obama didn’t do all that well nationally with white voters. So it’s not as if Hillary has a long way to go to match his white numbers. Very unlikely that northern voters will suddenly turn into Alabama voters.

As for Trump getting 65% of the white vote nationally, it won’t be easy. Neither McCain nor Romney even got that much. And they didn’t piss off as many people. A lot of whites are single women, soccer moms, college students, gays, pro-choice, urbanite hipsters, and just plain garden variety left of center ideologically. That’s a lot of votes for Trump to lose and still get nearly 2 of 3 white voters.
