Donald Trump Jr. Tweets Link to Alex Jones Website - a Ludicrous Fake Story, of Course

Like father, like son
Politics • Views: 48,770

So today, the son of the Republican candidate for president of the US, Donald Trump Jr., tweeted a link to the website of Alex Jones — the conspiracy-mongering lunatic who thinks 9/11 was an inside job and the Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax and all the victims’ families are “crisis actors.”

How did Trump Jr. happen across this link, you ask? He actually follows Alex Jones on Twitter:

The article at Infowars is a ludicrous hack job intended to discredit the Democratic Convention, about a random guy who thinks the DNC is paying people to attend. Here’s his evidence for this assertion:

In the clip, the delegate says that he got to the convention between 5-6pm and the place was virtually empty but that it suspiciously filled up very quickly.

“Every seat in the house is full – so those seat fillers you guys were hearing about? It’s real, they’re in here now,” states the delegate.

That’s the kind of “proof” that makes Infowars what it is — a ridiculous website full of conspiracy theories and BS designed to bilk an audience of irrational right wing chowderheads. Not to put too fine a point on it.

It really ought to disturb everyone that Donald Trump Jr., who is playing a very large role in his father’s campaign, apparently believes this is a credible enough source to share it publicly on Twitter. But Alex Jones is deeply connected with the Trump campaign, and Trump himself actually appeared on Jones’ radio show and praised him. It still amazes me that the GOP’s candidate for president associates with someone this insane, and nobody even blinks at it.

(P.S. At some point after we exposed Trump Jr.’s connections to several white supremacists, he blocked us on Twitter.)

More accurately: it really ought to disturb everyone that Donald Trump’s supporters are so fact-averse that Donald Jr thinks he can pass this on without being mocked.

Twitter was made for modern news media. They just need to get a millenial intern to sit around and do what he would do at home - checking his twitter feed - and then fill them in on what is trending, and report that as a news story.

Minimal overhead and instant acceptance

Top advisers to GOP nominee pursue conspiracy theory bunk on conspiracy sites. This would be the kind of thing that would end a campaign. With Trump, it just gets added to the miles-long list of incomprehensible stuff he and his campaign have said/done/posted in a 24-hour period.

Thing is, it’s not even the worst thing that the Trump campaign did today.

Today, they’re busy claiming that yesterday’s entreaties to the Russians and others to go hack the USG and Clinton computers for emails was satire.

Right.

It’s past time for the GOP to have an intervention. They lost their chance when they nominated this thing. It’s up to everyone else to put him and the rest of the GOP down. Ending the GOP is the best chance we have of reinserting some sanity into a bipartisan government, because the GOP has become so wedded to know-nothing obstructionists, they sent one as their nominee.

They definitely do need an intervention. The problem is they refuse to even really consider they’re the problem or if they do admit, they do some crap like claim the Dems are just as bad. They have no desire anymore to become a sane alternative to the Democratic Party. Someone made the point last night but the Democrats defended Trump’s trashing of McCain’s POW experience with more vigor than his actual party did.

The absolute worst that will happen to the GOP is it will become a simply regional party like the Democrats pretty much were in the immediate years following hte Civil War. The problem is so many people vote GOP because they hate the Democrats that much. They never honestly think about the GOP actually does for the American people, they’re happy to support a party that merely re-enforces a lot of their prejudices.

Fake news stories and conspiracy theories make for better propaganda than actual reality. The US voting public has put into possible command position someone who holds this view not as a liability, but as the main feature of his campaign and oratory. This is scaring allies in the rest of the world towards the view of planning for possible diminished US influence and power directly because of incompetent leadership ..something Republicans have (fake) railed against the past 8 years. …Stunning.

I found out this morning that there are people who honest to god think the term “conspiracy theory” is just a government manufactured term to make them look stupid. No, they truly don’t need much help in that department.

This kind of completely off the rails “thinking” is why so many people still believe all the anti-Clinton shit that’s been circulating since they began to be active in politics. There are people my son’s age (early 20s) that think they murdered Vince Foster and dealt arms and drugs out of Mena, Arkansas and that Bill is a rapist who paid off judges and DAs to have the evidence disappeared.

So, is there any place a person who was actually interested in the truth could find it, in regards to the Clintons at least? I know it’s not going to change the minds of the hardcore haters, but with some of the younger, less indoctrinated people it might help a little.

Meanwhile, on Facebook, I’m seeing less and less idiotic anti-Democrat (e.g., Democrats love slavery) posts showing up in the timeline.

I suspect this has nothing to do with the overall wingnut ratio on Facebook, but that my “friends” are getting tired of me correcting them and thus marking me down on the priority list or de-friending me.

Pretty much the hard core anti-Hillary folk are just done talking and they know they will not vote for Hillary, ever, and will just vote for Drumpfskind.

I suspect the die is cast already, for the November vote, unless something very dramatic happens to either candidate between now and election day.

Few minds are left to be swayed one way or another.

Perhaps the only change that can be made is to convince some folk who would sit this one out to instead get out and vote.

Or, on the contrary, to convince some long-time Republicans to stay at home and not vote, given how odious Drumpfskind is to anyone with any sense of self-awareness.

Very late post from previous string, reposted here for relevance:

Carnival of ignorance at freep:

This starts with an inflammatory and inaccurate headline from the Daily Fail:
US ‘spy plane’ makes emergency landing in Russia after ‘problem with its landing gear’

The surveillance Boeing OC-135B aircraft was flying a mission over Siberia
Problem with landing gear prompted emergency landing in eastern Russia
Treaty on Open Skies allows signatories to overfly the skies of each other
But Russia has now questioned whether the technical glitch was genuine

This is one of the two OC-135Bs that operate over Russia under the “Open Skies” treaty. The flight originated in Russia, has Russian observers on board, and was scheduled to land in Yakutsk, also in Russia. Freepers of course, ignore all that, fall for all the Fail’s invited inferences, and spin up a variety of conspiracy theories.

The most common seems to be that this was staged so Obama could turn over secret data and state of the art gear to the Russians.

What did Obama give Putin now ?

Just the Negro from Nairobi paying off Vladimir Vladimirovich for not releasing the contents of Rotten Cankles’ server.

If you have a problem with your landing gear why would you need to make an immediate emergency landing?

It wasn’t “immediate,” the aircraft flew over 1600 kilometers before landing at an airport that has considerably longer runways than the scheduled one. Yakutsk: 8202 ft (concrete) and 11155 ft (asphalt); Khabarovsk airport (where it did land) has two runways: 13,124 (concrete) and 11,483 (asphalt). It probably did not return to the point of origin, Ulan-Ude, because the pilot wanted to burn off two hours worth of fuel before attempting to land with a suspect landing gear.

I guess planes can’t fly with landing gear issues. What a load of bull.

I’m sure the Russians will promptly return our government property to us after a cursory glance at the plane. Riiiiiiiiight..

(Every Open Skies flight lands in Russia, usually more than once. They have yet to keep one.)

Obama’s gift to the Russians.

Assume one of those two things happened. Was there another course of action that could have been taken rather than land where Putin gets access to all the info

Under the treaty, the Russians are entitled to copies of all the data gathered. This would have been downloaded at the scheduled stop in Yakutsk, which is just before the plane would have exited Russian airspace and gone on to (probably) Japan.

There are a few voices crying in the wilderness:

It is an Open Skies Treaty plane. Russian can already request copies of all the data it gathers. This isn’t a Rivet Joint.

Are we the only two people on this thread who know what “Open Skies” means?

These naturally draw a rejoinder that plumbs the depth of idiocy, and also serves as an example of the time dishonored inbred habit of throwing up transparent strawmen.

So what you are saying is that because of the malfunction of landing gear and the need to emergency land more than 1000 miles away…Russia can look at all data as per the Treaty???? This whole things sounds fishy.

Er, no, idiot, the poster did not say that. The Open Skies treaty entitles the host country to that data.
Note that the Fail gives the origin as in the “Ulan-Ude in the Republic of Buryatia” but does not mention that this and the destination, Yakutsk, are both in Russia. This omission helps enable the conspira-fool assumption that this was some kind of secret spy flight that has disastrously and suspiciously fallen into Russian hands.

They’re all like that, these massive asshats who think revolution is some neat and tidy process.

Exactly, did you see that condescending letter from the one Buster yesterday? Something like 99.9% of you won’t have your life negatively impacted by Trump. Such nonsense. And honestly if it really didn’t matter who was president so much to them, why the Bernie or bust effort. Obviously, who is president matters to them or else tehy wouldn’t have supported anyone but the second someone like Clinton becomes the nominee, all a sudden oh it doesn’t matter. SIck of their shit.

The only argument to vote for Trump or to not vote for Hillary is that a vote for Hillary would perpetuate the status quo, but if we had unified GOP control of government for 4-8 years things would get so bad voters would be ready to elect a progressive government and we could get real change, as occurred after the Great Depression. The Bush Recession brought about the election of Obama and a Democratic majority which got Obamacare passed. The big problem with this theory is you have to accept all of the suffering a Trump government would inflict, not to mention the threat that we might not even survive. IMO, progressives are already moving the Democrats to the left, so its better to build on the Obama legacy rather than to tear it down and have to rebuild from scratch.

This. I have had it with the level of willful ignorance required to believe turning back the clock on 25 years of free trade is going to bring back a huge number of manufacturing jobs.

In my opinion, the notion that free trade has destroyed the middle class doesn’t really hold up. The US manufacturing sector produces more higher value goods than ever, but automation has greatly reduced the number of people employed in manufacturing. The low skill factory jobs in textiles and such which were offshored would be paying low wages even if we moved them back to the US. We need to find ways to boost wages in the service sector of the economy, through means such as unionization, a higher minimum wage, and freeing up the housing market in places like SF, NY and Boston so that blue collar workers can afford to live in those places and earn higher wages.

Left or right, stupid is stupid.

What we need to be talking instead of insulting people’s intelligence by acting like we’ll return manufacturing jobs by reversing our trade agreements is how we can help parts of the country that have lost jobs due to those trade agreements. We’re in a post-industrial economy. This isn’t our parents or grandparents economy. And that element of the left needs to stop acting like it will return. It just isn’t. It was a different time. That doesn’t mean we need to gut things like workers rights and ignore the people who have lost work due to trade deals but we can’t act like we’re going to reverse what we have done.

this election really could be a sea level change election… Donald Trump really is that bad a candidate and with him turning off a goodly portion of moderate GOP voters and low information Indies, a dramatic change could be in the offing.

As these guys (established GOP pols) continue to line up behind him (because that’s what they do) I really can see minorities, women and the general liberal base showing up to cast their vote because an asshat like Trump does make it personal. I really do believe that we’re going to flip the Senate and they’re going to make a damn good run at the House too. The Dems are organized, the GOP is a 10 minute media segment.

Got news for Stein but in the 60’s when the working class probably had the most protection and rights its ever had in this country, those people were turned against progressive policies BECAUSE right wing politicians like Trump were able to take advantage of their resentment that they may have to share their benefits with someone of a different race. There always were people who opposed government programs after the New Deal but most of those were right wing elitists like William F. Buckley and the National Review, the white working class didn’t really start turning against “big government” until people like Wallace started telling them they’d have to share it with peole of other races.

Something else that isn’t mentioned often enough is the deficit of skilled labor, like plumbers, electricians, mechanics and other skilled trades. One of the problems is parents steering their kids into 4 yr degree programs (and then grad school) because the skilled labor force is deemed beneath them or a step backwards. A skilled plumber or welder can make as much as some doctors do. Those kinds of jobs are always in demand because someone’s gotta fix shit when it breaks or build new stuff. IMO, those could be our new “manufacturing jobs”, but we have to train people for them. That’s going to require an investment on par with retooling our factories during WWII and the post war period.

My husband is an informally trained skilled laborer(his dad started teaching him stuff while he was still in high school, he’s been doing this sort of work for 30 years). One of the only reasons we didn’t lose everything in the ‘08 crash was because he had those skills and took a step down from middle managing guys who do those jobs into being one of them again. He doesn’t get paid nearly enough, again because we’re not valuing that work the way we used to when more people were in unions. We’re in GA, there are very few unions here that support skilled laborers. There’s an untapped resource in our own people here, if only we could smarten up and invest in ourselves again.

My sister has been living in Germany while her husband has been stationed there. They have made a couple of friends from there, who have come and visited my parents and us a few times. One of the things Germany has done right is setting up schools for people to go to that aren’t full colleges. One of her friends was trained to be a car salesman; the other trained to repair cars, which he built on to eventually become an engineer. I do wish we would set something up like that. I think Obama talked about something like this in 2012. Ensuring that every American got some form of decent post secondary education and included vocational schools in that. And I still remember Ricky Santorum’s response that Obama was a snob for thinking this. Yeah, such snobbery for thinking that every American should be able to get an education beyond high school.

We need more of those schools. And we still have a society that doesn’t value that work.

Here’s a small example:

When my son first started high school, there was a horticulture block of classes. Part of that was building a sustainable garden using volunteers over the summer. My son and I and one other parent and child showed up to help the lead teacher of that program build raised beds and install rain barrels outside the newly constructed greenhouse. There was much fanfare about this program, money was taken from a tax initiative, etc. I continued to help out sometimes to keep the gardens going over the summer months and some of the things this teacher told me were stunning.

Girls would come to class dressed in designer clothing and with expensive manicures saying they wouldn’t do the hands on work because “that’s what we hire mexicans for”. Parents started bitching that their kids weren’t getting “easy” grades (the classes included botany and agriculture and agribusiness classes) and were being “forced” into “manual labor”. The program failed after 3 years and that gorgeous state of the art greenhouse is now used as a storage room for chairs, desks and other surplus classroom stuff. This same school graduates kids that don’t want to read and are proud that they don’t. It’s in one of the wealthiest areas outside of Atlanta and the student parking lot is full of new cars and SUVs. The teacher parking lot isn’t. What’s sad is some of these same kids never made it past their freshman year of college and are working retail while living at home or their parents got them intern level jobs in some company where they’ll be promoted because of who their parents are. The less affluent kids joined the military (boys) or had kids and got married(girls). And this is touted as one of the better schools in the county. Something’s wrong with our priorities and we’re passing that on to our kids.

This is a Chinese movie filmed largely in China and funded largely over there as well.

In short, this is China pandering to US. It’s like how US action/disaster films always seem to find a way to destroy a Chinese city. They want their pulp, extremely expensive action film to have worldwide appeal, and the US is the largest market in the world for that shit.

The GOP has ceded all discussion of being leaders on pretty much every topic, especially education. You don’t get to impose your religious views in science classrooms like you’ve tried doing time and again without being challenged on this very point.

The GOP is an anti-science party, and their stance on evolution needing to be taught alongside other “theories” is bunk.

Same with global warming. And for pushing the nonsense that Common Core is a federal program when it was a public-private coordination between/among states to raise education standards.

To be honest, on domestic issues Eisenhower really wasn’t qualified. He did to his credit have some capable advisers that helped him. Washington also really had no experience in that regard either. BTW, what Obama said is nowhere near as stupid as Carly Fiorina suggesting Sarah Palin’s then two years as Alaska’s governor made her more qualified than Biden who had been in the Senate over 34 years at that point.

I’m pretty sure this plays out very simply in the legal system. If one side fails to put up anything resembling a sensible defense of its position, an adverse default judgement happens.

It’s a form of trial by combat, and if you show up for that in clown shoes and a red rubber nose, too bad for you.

Ken Hamm is slashing ticket prices for public students to $1 per pupil and their teachers for free to visit the Ark Park. I hope this is because the Park is a bust and he’s getting desperate.

This is going to run smack into Edwards v. Aguillard (Supreme Court, 1987), which flatly says that creationism is sectarian religious teaching which cannot occur in the public schools. A school or two may get away with it, but eventually, it’s going to be very, very clear that any school which arranges a field trip on the cheap will be buying a very expensive lawsuit.

So I have about four and a half hours to finish editing/rewriting this love scene before the main event.

…I might get this done. Maybe. It would sure make tomorrow a hell of a lot easier if I can.

Shouldn’t take that long, let me help: “Then they came together as if an earthquake had struck. Only it was a real earthquake this time. They died together, lovers for eternity, in the rubble.”

I actually think Sanders was naive enough to think every last one of his followers would listen to him.

I do too. I think he might be realizing he created a bit of a beast. To his credit, it apparently was him that told Nina Turner that she would not be speaking on his behalf.

Tempting as it is, my degree absolutely will not let me write an earthquake into a story set in England.

In the absence of anything other than SMOTI’s worthless word, we can just as easily assume that O’Keefe was accidentally dropped by good Samaritans who were trying to keep his staggering drunk ass off the hot pavement.

That’s what it looks like to me. Either that or the supposed Bernie supporter has some serious aikido moves.

Speaking of GG, even he now criticizes ASSange:

Yeah, it has, because when WikiLeaks first began—one of the things that people have forgotten—they were actually very careful in redacting. In fact, there were tons of redactions when they were releasing Pentagon documents about the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. And they even wrote a letter to the State Department before they released the cables requesting the State Department’s help in figuring out which information ought to be withheld. And I used to defend WikiLeaks all the time on the grounds that they were not indiscriminate dumpers of information; they were carefully protecting people’s reputations. And they have changed their view on that—and no longer believe, as Julian says, in redacting any information of any kind for any reason—and I definitely do not agree with that approach and think that they can be harmful to innocent people or other individuals in ways that I don’t think is acceptable.

This is why so many Fox “News” male broadcasters are missing Roger Ailes.

The uncouth Roger Ailes

It was 2011 and Ryan, then the CEO of Politico, was on a mission to repair relations between the two media organizations, sources with knowledge of the situation said. Years earlier, Fox News had banned Politico reporters from its airwaves because of suspicions of anti-Fox bias, and Ryan was pushing for a fresh start.

Then, according to the sources, Ailes told Ryan what he wanted: He wanted fair coverage from Politico; he wanted the website to take stock of Fox News’ successes, not just its controversies; and he wanted Politico to stop taking talking points from “that faggot David Brock.”

The derogatory term Ailes used to describe Brock, the founder of the liberal watchdog group Media Matters For America, so shocked Ryan that he felt compelled to relay it to friends and colleagues, three of whom told CNNMoney about it this week. (Ryan declined to comment.)

To those who know Ailes, however, the story would not be surprising at all. The former Fox News chief, who stepped down last week amid sexual harassment allegations, regularly makes coarse and derogatory statements about women, homosexuals, Jews and racial minorities, several sources who have met with him said.

I will say my mom is so horrified at Trump, in particular because of his attitude towards women (and by extension, the GOP) that there’s some real damage being done there. Mom frustrated me a lot the past few years with being very MBF. This is the most vehement I’ve ever seen her about politics - and the most vocal.

This is an excellent idea that will almost certainly advance your ideals and get you the respect you deserve:

thetab.com

PHILADELPHIA — Bernie Sanders delegates furious with Hillary Clinton’s nomination are planning to storm out of her speech tonight, The Tab has learned.

Chris, a delegate from Washington State, told us: “Half the Bernie delegates walked out on Tuesday and didn’t come back. Today the other half are walking out.

“They are going to put tape over their mouths and walk out the second she gets up on the stage, right then and there. I’ve been talking to my fellow delegates - they’re certain. The word is leaking out now. There’s nothing the DNC can really do about it.

“It’s a protest about what happened and to make sure our voices get heard. We’ve been ignored by our party and this is how we respond.”

Chris, another Bernie delegate from Missouri, added: “They’re walking out tonight. I already walked out earlier this week - I’m now trying to sell my ticket.

“We demanded a formal apology for the American people from the stage of the DNC, and we didn’t get it. I supported Bernie Sanders and feel like he didn’t get a fair shake.”

Allison, a Bernie delegate of Illinois, added: “There is a walk out planned. We are not sure if the Secret Service will let us, so a back up is that we are all going to stand up when Hillary speaks and turn our backs.”

Jason, a delegate from Hawaii, said: “We can’t really comment on that, but different people will be doing different things,” and another from the same delegation chimed in: “There is something going on tonight - you’ll want to be there.”

One delegate we spoke to, Catherine from Michigan, told us she won’t be participating.

She said: “I have heard about these plans. Bernie Sanders endorsed Hillary Clinton and I support his endorsement, so I won’t be walking out.

“I’ve also heard outside agitators are trying to convince Bernie delegates to leave tonight.”
