It’s one of those whoops-missed-the-new-thread nights. Left downstairs, forgotten, with opinions that ought to matter but never will. The world moved on.

Probably makes me feel like a Trump voter. Sad!

Gah. Dead threaded. Repeat from downstairs.

I saw Gary Johnson on the Nightly Show and that dude was weird. I mean, no disrespect, but most Libertarians I’ve met were a little weird (some very weird, but that’s a personal digression), but Johnson was…weird. Completely disaffected; flat. How did he get elected? Who did he run against?

I haven’t read every comment, but I haven’t seen anyone bring this up:

A Standard for the Transmission of IP Datagrams on Avian Carriers:

Status of this Memo

This memo describes an experimental method for the encapsulation of
IP datagrams in avian carriers. This specification is primarily
useful in Metropolitan Area Networks. This is an experimental, not
recommended standard. Distribution of this memo is unlimited.

Overview and Rational

Avian carriers can provide high delay, low throughput, and low
altitude service. The connection topology is limited to a single
point-to-point path for each carrier, used with standard carriers,
but many carriers can be used without significant interference with
each other, outside of early spring. This is because of the 3D ether
space available to the carriers, in contrast to the 1D ether used by
IEEE802.3. The carriers have an intrinsic collision avoidance
system, which increases availability. Unlike some network
technologies, such as packet radio, communication is not limited to
line-of-sight distance. Connection oriented service is available in
some cities, usually based upon a central hub topology.

Frame Format

The IP datagram is printed, on a small scroll of paper, in
hexadecimal, with each octet separated by whitestuff and blackstuff.
The scroll of paper is wrapped around one leg of the avian carrier.
A band of duct tape is used to secure the datagram’s edges. The
bandwidth is limited to the leg length. The MTU is variable, and
paradoxically, generally increases with increased carrier age. A
typical MTU is 256 milligrams. Some datagram padding may be needed.

Upon receipt, the duct tape is removed and the paper copy of the
datagram is optically scanned into a electronically transmittable
form.

Again, I demand a Pulitzer and/or statue(1).

The Khan’s appeal is a bracing, jarring reminder of how far we’ve already fallen living in Trump’s world. This isn’t just words. Our political culture and civic life have already been profoundly degraded and compromised. If he wins it will be a catastrophe for the country. But even if he loses we’ll be living with the damage and degradation for a long time.

As Democrats or anti-Trumpers we can say we oppose it. That’s fine. But we’ve allowed this to happen in our country. The fact that it’s the other team, the other party is a footnote to that reality. You see the Khans and what they’re saying, what’s happened to the millions of other people Trump has attacked, denigrated. The only complete response is a feeling of shame. This happened here. We let this happen here.

“…Watching the convention was watching the spectacle of the surreal being normalized: the parade of 1980s retreads like Scott “Chachi” Baio and underwear model-turned-actor Antonio Sabato Jr., given prime speaking real estate; the chants of “Lock Her Up!” out of some dystopian sci-fi film where the public runs amok; the spittle-spewing mania of Rudy Giuliani, like some crazed villain from a Marvel picture; the WWE confrontation between Ted Cruz and Trump as the latter entered the arena to step on Cruz’s peroration; the disjunction of a convention with all of 18 black delegates (yes, 18!) while a caravan of black speakers made it seem like the NAACP convention; and, last but by no means least, Trump himself, looking like a grumpy potentate.

None of this is normal, and certainly not Trump himself. And yet, as I switched from channel to channel, I didn’t hear anyone say, “However you feel about Trump, this is just plain crazy.” At most, a pundit might marvel at Trump’s success as a non-politician. But that is far different from wondering how our political process went off the tracks. In an earlier post I wrote that the media’s normalizing Trump, as German media once normalized Hitler, is the biggest danger to the country. Now let me add this: Normalizing the bizarre circus that surrounds him is a danger, too.”

“Two if by land….” just reminds me of Palin’s “Ringin’ them bells” to let the British know we weren’t gonna let them take are gunz…and there was no shortage of dumbasses justifying that. We can amuse ourselves joking about tRump’s theories on military communications—I’ve been doing it—but at the end of the day, his lunatic followers have a new bit of brilliance to quote.

OK, let’s review these “Big NFL Games”

First debate is up against Falcons Vs Saints. Two teams that failed to make the playoffs last year and nobody expects big things from either of them this year.

Veep Debate on a Tuesday, no football.

Second debate is up against Giants Vs Packers. Two big name teams, so we could pretend Donald has an issue here, the only problem is the Giants are horribly inconsistent, this game could be 21-0 Green Bay within the first quarter and everyone will flip to the debate for something to watch.

Third Debate on a Wednesday, no football.

So of the debates two aren’t opposed by football and only one of two that is opposed by football could be seen as a ‘big time’ match-up, and that game could be a horrible blowout.

Remember “It sank?”

Or his comment right after Politkovskaya’s murder: “her murder was far more damaging for the current [Russian] authorities and specifically for the Chechen authorities than her publications”.

Or his Crimea comment when he said that his army will be standing behind the backs of women and children, basically using them as shields.

‘Careful staging of Trump’s bizarre appearance at L. today, coming just a week after his very public heart attack, included a lengthy introduction from the Republican candidate’s personal physician who downplayed media reports, suggesting that the breakdown was instead due to poisoning.

“We know that the Clinton campaign will do anything to win this election,” he said, “and it is unfathomable that a man as physically fit as Mr. Trump should suffer from a health problem not caused by some outside agent.”

Behind him, a visibly frail and confused Trump merely nodded.’

Hillary Clinton is a war criminal, literally. Most people can’t quite get a handle on that. Even when its explained what her role was in the Libya and Syria wars, most can’t quite grasp the fact that she’s a sociopathic murderer without remorse. She, and Obama, should be arrested, charged with crimes against humanity and locked up until they meet their maker. Greets and saluts from the overcast and muggy NYC metro area. The Trump campaign has yet to be mugged by reality, and there’s no one on the right side of the political spectrum willing or capable of guiding Trump into a fact-based reality. None.

It’s not that they’ve given up trying.

It’s that they are in a similar delusional state.

That’s the GOP base, which cheers Trump when he says we should transmit our info by courier to avoid hacking.

These people are absolutely delusional.

At a time when the military has the capability to strike at terror groups within minutes courtesy of UAVs, airstrikes, or missile strikes over the horizon from any number of assets (subs, USAF aircraft, USN aircraft, USMC aircraft), special forces, etc., transmitting intel and orders by courier means we absolutely lose the time it takes to get the assets in place, ordering the strikes, etc.

Every military force in history, every general, and every national leader would kill to have the ability to send/receive orders as quickly as they’re able to do today by the modern secure transmission methods.

Trump also ignores that couriers can be turned, intercepted, or their orders surreptitiously changed as well (to wit, practically every spy movie uses this as a narrative device).

That he’s gotten all his supporters and apologists to back this BS shows that they’ve completely unmoored from reality.

This whole courier thing reminds me of Mitt Romneys “horses and bayonets”.

Well, it fits right in: after all, you don’t expect those couriers to WALK, everywhere, do you?

PS: the “horses and bayonets” line was actually President Obama’s: but, of course, he made Mitt own it…

Some very weird people. John McAfee, the virus protection guy, kept a harem of teenage prostitutes who were trying to kill him (seriously, he made a video about it) at his compound in Belize, and he fled under suspicion of murdering his neighbor.

And Hillary will have to be completely flawless without so much as one “um” or mispronunciation. If she raises her voice she’ll be a bitch or shrill. If she smiles at something stupid he says (which means she’d be smiling through the whole debate) she’ll be condescending or an elitest. Her hair and clothing will be scrutinized and she better be wearing a by-god-flag pin too. If she makes any reference at all about her marriage having had rocky moments, it will only be a reference to a blowjob in the White House.

I’d like to beleive it won’t devolve to that, but seeing the standards women are held to that men aren’t, I don’t have much hope. Our Media Sucks.

I predict she’ll be in double-digits ahead of him - or she should if they poll people who paid attention to the conventions. If they poll people who only watch repeats of CSI and Law & Order on the USA Network then there may not be much of a bounce at all.

I read that there is a theory that Convention bounces are created because party members are pumped up and more willing to talk to pollsters than usual. This effect fades pretty quickly. We could all just avoid RCP, 538 and every other polling news for the next month and miss nothing of any real significance. Not that I can actually do that.

I like a choco-filled donut about once a year, but adding the s’more on top doesn’t work for me.

I rarely eat dessert anymore, though I love making them - especially pies. I make great pie crusts and the filling is an excuse to make the crust.

We’re at 99 days and counting until election day. Numbers will start mattering in September. Granted, we’ve been in an election cycle since Obama first took office as it’s been non-stop “who will replace him” in our media, but like other countries, the voters really aren’t all that engaged except for the last few months - like the playoffs in hockey, baseball or basketball.

Incidentally, if you don’t regularly read Rude Pundit, his convention coverage (of both conventions) has been straight fire. He drops the cussing (well, most of the cussing) and delivers some very good analysis.

Meanwhile, the Bernie Sanders supporters decided that they were no longer Sanders supporters because, if they were, they would be listening to him and voting for Hillary Clinton instead of trying to blow shit up at the convention. The roll call is over. Clinton is the nominee. You can keep yelling that the nomination was stolen (something Sanders says it wasn’t). You can yell that the DNC leak shows bias (no shit, but so?). But there is nothing more you can do but yell. You can’t change this. You can either accept it, be thrilled at the historic moment that has occurred, and move on. Or you can wallow in your anger and throw your vote away.

It’s a free country. For now.

Just start at the top of the home page and read down. Every single post is just stellar.

More Rude. He does not like the Busters. At. All.

To which one can only say: You know who will get hurt by a Drumpf presidency? Every fucking group you think you’re defending with your purity. And don’t fucking get upset when we say that not voting or voting for Stein or Johnson is as good as voting for Drumpf. It’s as good as voting for Drumpf because Clinton is the only candidate who can beat him, and any vote not for her is a net gain for Drumpf, and that shit’ll matter in states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, and elsewhere. And, yeah, fuck you if you think that voting for Clinton to stop Drumpf ain’t enough of a reason. It is enough of a reason. It’s always been, in every election, enough of a reason. Sorry, sunshine, that’s the fuckery of democracy.

Fuck you for not knowing your history and not wanting to do everything you can to stop someone like Drumpf from ascending to the White House and appointing Supreme Court justices, which will fuck us all for the rest of our lives. You know who agrees with us and disagrees with you? Bernie Sanders. Elizabeth Warren. Michael Moore. President Obama. And a fuck-ton of liberal writers (and a shitload of conservative writers, but fuck them where they stand anyways).

Do you think we’re all just lying to you? Do you think people across the left are liars or shills, including the dude you worshipped all this time? Or maybe, just maybe, we are sounding a warning bell, telling you that this shit is real. A Drumpf presidency is realer in its consequences than a Clinton one, however bad you think a Clinton presidency might be. Fuck, the Washington Post took the really unusual step to say, “Yeah, fuck this. Drumpf is a psychopath. Stop him.” That’s unheard of.

Don’t damn us to be Cassandras. Don’t let us stand there in 2017 and forward and say, “Told you so.” Probably from our cells in the gulag.

That would end discussion of voter fraud, benefits fraud or illegal employment in one fell swoop.

It’s never been about voter fraud, ever. Because the problem is simply not a problem. It’s always, from the very inception of the idea, been about making sure minorities and poor people don’t vote. If it’s not the ID then it’s taking away precincts and voting machines to “save the taxpayers money”.

I personally think that any kid who turns 18 while in high school, if they don’t already have a driver’s license, should be issued an ID card. If they can line everyone up for school photos, this should not be a problem.

We already have national ID cards or at least numbers. We simply lack the requirement to use them for well, actual ID purposes other than taxes and ss benefits. Make knowingly hiring an undocumented immigrant a crime like a DUI. Big fines, possible short jail terms. I happen to be the guy that signs off on official promises by my employer not to dump toxic chemicals. I’d risk jail to break those rules for him. We can do that in HR departments.

Young woman, with a footprint in three countries, selling jewelry making tools and materials. She is here legit as can be had, and took me aside to ask of her worst fears. I kid you not, sat me down and really wanted to talk about this election. I avoid that mix of personal and professional but I had to try and assure her. She thinks if Trump wins her life here and her business is cooked. Done. Ruined in a wave of anti immigrant sentiment and executive orders. I wish I could have spoken in more confident terms.

The anti immigrant rhetoric just scares the hell outta me. And Trump has done with little to no condemnation from the GOP.

I don’t know what the hell he could do at this point to dissuade the 28-38 percent of people who agree with his shit.

What frightens me is how large that number is. If we were a sane country, he’d maybe have got 5 percent or so and been knocked out of the process a long time ago. These people are all around us, some of them even doing good things. I know a woman who is a church going, bible reading person who gives her time and opens her home up to young rock musicians on the road. She and her husband don’t charge any money for this, they’ve set up part of their home as a dorm and they feed them, give them a safe place to sleep, a shower and whatever they can help with (gas money, etc). They really are a nice family. They operate off donations and their own funds.

BUT, she also believes the earth is flat, that climate change is a hoax, that Obama is a sign the antichrist is coming, and she was originally for Ben Carson, but is now firmly onboard with Trump and believes every awful thing about Hillary that’s out there. And she votes, in every election she’s eligible to vote in. So do her husband and her kids who are now in their early 20s. People like that just cannot be reached because the lines between politics and their religion just no longer exist.

Absolutely, they contend that they’re “anti immigrant” not racist but that’s just not true. They hassle people born here who are non-white and suspect them of not really being Americans while they in fact do embrace people like Murdoch, Derbyshire, and others woh weren’t. I didn’t see this downstairs, but Charles got a shoutout by a Huffington Post article regarding recent Donald Trump “Ask Me Anything” on a Reddit forum that turned out to be anything but that - and the fact that the hosting forum is well known for being rooted in neo-Nazism, white supremacy and overall creepiness.

Some Donald Trump Supporters Are Now Calling Him ‘God Emperor’

Hundreds of posts in Reddit’s The_Donald forum ― where Donald Trump this week participated in a Q&A session ― refer to the Republican presidential nominee as “God Emperor.”

The practice of using this name for Trump apparently caught on last spring. New York Times reporter Jonathan Weisman wrote in May about the deluge of anti-Semitic hate he’d received from self-identified Trump supporters, including “Nazi iconography of the shiftless, hooknosed Jew” from a user called “Trump God Emperor.”

Among Trump’s active online supporters, using the nickname is now commonplace. The post announcing Trump’s participation in the Q&A heralded “our God Emperor,” and a search of the phrase returned over 200 posts in the day after Trump’s appearance.

Anyone with any bit of empathy could have inferred that was why she didn’t speak. Lawrence O’Donnell in his interviewed showed great empathy by saying it would have been impossible for him to do that too. These aren’t people used to the limelight. I could tell that Mr. Khan was nervous too while he spoke. People acting like she didn’t speak because she’s “abused” are such assholes. Oh and then there’s NRO’s David French who wouldn’t even let his wife use Facebook while he was in Iraq yet they’re going to act oh so concerned because a mother was too grief stricken to speak before a large crowd. And she did in fact speak on the O’Donnell interview even explaining why they chose to emigrate to the US.

Wow.

Although it seems a little early for a newspaper to endorse. That would normally come in October, unless they feel the need to get a head start to try to influence the locals.

Good.

They cut right to it too didn’t they. In the first paragraph:

They will choose between one candidate with vast experience and a lifelong dedication to public service and another totally lacking in qualifications to be president.

This paragraph is pretty good:

An election between the Democrat Clinton and, let’s say, the Republican Jeb Bush or John Kasich or Marco Rubio, even the hyper-ideological Ted Cruz, would spark a much-needed debate about the role of government and the nation’s future, about each candidate’s experience and abilities. But those Republican hopefuls have been vanquished. To choose the candidate who defeated them - fairly and decisively, we should point out - is to repudiate the most basic notions of competence and capability.

I have to post this again. This man was my cousin. This is one of the most famous photos ever of the American military. We’ve all seen it. Like Captain Khan, he was not born in the United States and like Mr. and Mrs. Khan, his parents spoke with an accent and from what my grandma tells me, his mother really didn’t know much English since in those days due to women staying in the home, they didn’t really have as much an opportunity to learn English as their husbands and children would have. Captain Khan like Sgt. Strank enlisted in the United States Armed Forces in a time of peace and before pivotal events, in Mike’s case it was Pearl Harbor and in Captain Khan’s it was 9/11. Both men had two brothers. Both men died too young at the age of 27. And today both men, both from two places as different as could be as the UAE and Slovakia but who both came to America now rest on the same soil in Arlington. That’s America you guys. And I couldn’t be more touched to share a country with people like the Khans.

I lost it speaking to my family about my dad’s mom at her wake. And she had lived a long and peaceful life. Her son died in combat and she would have been addressing not just strangers in that room but strangers on TV all around the world. I could tell that it was difficult for Mr. Khan to speak but he spoke because he felt like he had to and man am I glad he did.

No need to feel guilty. I’m glad they do that too. You know, I was always proud to be related to him but when I read the book, I was even more so because of knowing what he meant to the men who served under him. I’ve never met any of the men who served with my grandfather and great uncles so seeing that gave me a lot of pride. There really are a lot of interesting parellels between Strank and Khan’s life. NyMag: THE CASE AGAINST THE MEDIA. BY THE MEDIA.

As the media anxiety around media anxiety began to crescendo this spring, we at New York decided to turn our journalistic operation in on itself to investigate just how bad the media really is. We were less interested in bad actors — the Jayson Blairs and such — than in the structural dilemmas of the media trade: What keeps media people up at night when they’re thinking about what they do for a living? We began by asking ourselves and our peers what they think the media’s greatest faults are. The response was overwhelming but probably shouldn’t have been too surprising (the media loves to criticize the media). In interviews with more than 40 journalists and media figures and in a survey of 113 of our peers, we heard much about deals cut with anonymous sources, the pressure for speed and easy hits that squeezes the nuance out of complicated stories, editors who knowingly simplified stories past the point of accuracy and publishers who spent resources on subjects they believed were trivial rather than those they felt were important. At times, the survey’s answers read like the minutes from an anonymous group-therapy session.

The interviews that follow make the media look pretty bad — really bad, in fact. But as it happens, we’ve engaged in our own form of media distortion in this project. We’ve dwelled mostly on the negative, because that’s what we considered the “news.” Yet many we spoke to gave reasons for optimism, too. Some hailed the rise of the internet and social media for bringing new voices to the fore and for connecting established ones to new audiences. Several observed that the Trump effect was salutary for media credibility, as journalists learned to become more aggressive in fact-checking falsehoods mid-quote or mid-chyron. Some pointed to the rise of nonprofit investigative shops like ProPublica or the Intercept as happy developments, and others highlighted a new generation of benevolent media owners, like Jeff Bezos, as a sign that good journalism will still be produced. We’ve included links below to longer transcripts of our interviews; that’s so you can see for yourselves how we’ve cherry-picked the quotes — and also because reading each of the commentators at length makes for almost an entirely different (and much deeper) exploration of the subject.

Most strikingly, the journalists we spoke to responded to the biggest criticism by embracing it: Yes, the media imposes what might be called its own bias, but that’s its job. It’s supposed to function as a filter, making complex events intelligible, and maybe even supposed to entertain, too. And it’s also true that while it’s easy for people to loathe the media as an abstraction, “if you ask them how they feel about their own particular media niche, you often find out that they are very loyal to it,” pointed out Bill Keller, who used to run the New York Times and now runs the excellent Marshall Project. “The people who read the Times might be the same people who would tell a pollster that the media is unreliable, but they’re deeply devoted to the New York Times.”

It’s not just the Times. The same seems true across media — or true-ish, in an era of shrinking TV ratings and rabid competition among print outlets. In the media market, like any market, that loyalty is earned, one presumes, by giving an audience what it wants. But what does it want? Is the media there to excite or to inform? To challenge or to reassure? To be objective or partisan? To try to parse the media-hate, as we have over the last few months, is to sense that the media still does at least one job very well: reflecting the contradictory desires of the audience it serves.

I know, I saw a lot of “typical abused Muslim wife” stuff on conservative sites. I thought the poor woman was grief stricken, and just possibly not used to facing an audience of thousands of people in person-millions on TV-with bright lights on her.
I remember the first time I had to speak to a group of about 100 people. It was terrifying. I don’t do public speaking, but thanks to having to give a couple presentations in grad school, and a couple random experiences later in life, I could probably manage, but I know that deer in the headlights feeling.

That really was my first and only thought, she is terrified to be in front of THOUSANDS of people. Public speaking is one of the most common phobias out there. It’s a very very common phobia especially for someone who hasn’t been in the limelight ever. By concern trolling “Why didn’t she speak” like Coulter and Trump himself are doing, they’re proving just how out of touch with reality they are. I know this. Isn’t she always? Coulter is a monster because it gets her attention so she can sell her books. In a decent country, no-one would ever invite her to comment on their shows, and she could spew in obscurity.

She’s got one now about “Trump, God”, or something like that.

Can someone here who’s been conservative quite honestly tell me what the appeal of her and her books are? I really can’t figure out for the life of me. I understand needing your philosophy validated in print but Coulter is just so uniquely nasty and bigoted even among that crowd. We’re talking about someone who hates that women vote Democratic so much that she wants to get rid of women having the right to vote and for someone who belongs in an ideology that professes to support the rights of Jews to worship freely, she’s not even secretive about her Antisemitism.

That’s an old Jerry Seinfeld routine. Close paraphrase:

“Surveys show people’s number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two! So I guess for these people, if you’re at a funeral, it’s better to be in the casket than doing the eulogy.”

When I was in high school, the first time I had to make a class presentation I was a nervous wreck. Then I heard, on TV I think, the suggestion to imagine my audience in their underwear. After that I was too amused to be nervous. I also learned to practice my presentation and learn my stuff so I had it down cold. That’s important in oral argument when the judges are throwing questions at you, sometimes completely out of left field.

Actually, you fixed that for the Houston Chronicle!

Say, I don’t know if you caught the Claypool Lennon Delirium YouTubes I put up yesterday afternoon or not, but last night my jamming buddy and I listened to a YouTube of their show at Bonnaroo this year and I think it pretty damn good.

It has fantastic sound too. I played it through my Samsung Galaxy table into our PA and we were transfixed.

When I first heard the cuts I put up yesterday I immediately thought Trippy Beatles and early Pink Floyd. Listening to the Bonnaroo show confirmed it. They do a version of Syd Barrett era Floyd’s Astronomy Domine and a simply magical Lennon/Beatles song Tomorrow Never Knows

I did not know Sean was this freaking good. Claypool is already known for his creativity. Hell the whole band kicks ass.

Here is the Bonnaroo video…enjoy.

re: #127 b.d. In stoking up resentment, Donald is showing his ignorance. 62% is pretty good these days, considering retirement and the effects of the housing bubble. Retirement? A lot of people are downsizing those old big homes as they retire. A lot of those people who couldn’t afford to buy aren’t, but can now get apartments instead. And some people prefer to rent downtown and save on gas. Not to mention the people who had homes and are still working through those 7 years of bankruptcy and foreclosures still being on a credit record.

I’ve seen it in my own downtown. A lot of old office buildings have become condos-mostly mortgages since the real estate isn’t too bad here. Those buildings, with fine and fancy architecture, high ceilings and luxury entrances are also buildings that no longer needed the space due to technology making the old banks of file cabinets obsolete. They are beautiful and also until they were abandoned, well maintained. Now they have a new life and probably an even longer one as condos.

But I wouldn’t be surprised at there being a lot of rentals as well. The tradeoff is for some people-mobility. I mean work your downtown job and leave the car in the garage except for trips and errands. No yard work needed. Someone else does the maintenance. Work late and walk home instead of a monster commute back to the house. Get off, immediately go out to eat or watch a movie and still get home in time for a good nights sleep. Stay flexible for that job assignment or relocation.

I think the percentage will go up once a huge bulk of the baby boom generation goes into assisted living or dies and leaves the housing to a lot of surprised heirs. I mean there’s more than one way to get a house….

That really was my first and only thought, she is terrified to be in front of THOUSANDS of people. Public speaking is one of the most common phobias out there. I have played music in front of people since I was in 3rd grade of school. Concert bands, jazz bands, marching bands, rock bands. And still to this day feel a little internal “hope I don’t fuck up” tick every time I take the stage.

I ran for Junior class president, then Student Council president and had knocking knees the whole times addressing classmates and then the whole school.

I played in bands too…same thing.

But nothing better then after when someone comes up to you and says “Hey, that was pretty good!” or “Good Speech.” And thankfully never laughed off a stage!

Many years ago we had an issue here in our inner city neighborhood with a an old theater that was being developed and the neighbors wanted them to put up a nice privacy-type fence around the parking lot to control parking and to make sure it cut off their activities from spilling into the alleys behind our homes. After several neighborhood meetings my neighbors asked me to be the spokesman when we needed to meet with the Columbus Development Board and Code Enforcement Meetings.

Knocking knees…followed by “Great Job.”

I think even the superstars have butterflies. It is a bit of motivator.

What we need to realize is while Trump is awful, he is not the GOP’s illness. They’ve had problems before him and they will after him. Fact of the matter is Trump’s BS was supported by a lot of GOP primary voters who were voting for his opponents too. Reminds me of the world building I did for a game I designed a while ago.

There had been only one act of atomic terrorism in the future. A bunch of eco-terrorists blew up Cape Canaveral ‘because man should worry about his own planet first’.

Unfortunately six of the victims were higher ups in the Yakuza who were the major crime organization at the time.

A week later police found the terrorists’ bodies stuffed in a van in NYC. They’d died from severe radiation poisoning, not from handling the bomb either.

Terrorists don’t try that shit anymore. The Yaks, corporate and municipal intelligence cooperate very closely to keep it from happening.

Oh, there were no nations in my future. The world’s corporation essentially went to was with the world’s nations and they won. However they were only prepared to conquer, but not to rule.

re: #347 Big Beautiful Door

Trump’s notion of sacrifice is to have to pay someone the money he owes them.

I think it’s Trump not making the profits and getting the accolades he *expects* to receive simply from being Donald Trump.

(Recall his pseudo-run four years ago when he dropped out simply because the GOP would not simply hand him the nomination on a gold-plated platter. I’m sure this year’s results have massively convinced him of the rightness of that argument and that the GOP threw away a massive opportunity to have Trump at the top of the ticket even earlier.)

Trump’s federal taxes paid for the son to make the supreme sacrifice. Why does Donald owe him any additional consideration? He was paid to do a job and take the nominal risks that went with the job.

I had almost forgotten about “Prince of Darkness” Perle.

You know, if I were at all susceptible to antisemitism, those three among others might have been enough to trigger it. Yet none of today’s alt-right antisemites seem to be referring to the likes of them. I wonder why that is?

Also, next part of the article series got translated:
Expert: “The children are schooled in the ideals of the Third Reich”

I gotta tell you, this shit is terrifying. Far too many right wing people have a voice throughout the world.

It’s like we have to have a world war now and again to control the population and wipe out some evil. Too bad good people go with them.

It doesn’t even occur to Trump to express respect or gratitude to the Khans for their son’s service

Who will the first RWNJ to claim that Khan joined the military so he could kill American soldiers?

re: #398 CarolJ

I fit that mode. Gave up a 3-bedroom house when I moved to Philadelphia for a 2-bedroom apartment in Center City. Definitely more expensive than the house was - but I can walk for 90% of my needs and also have a 3-block each way commute. As compared to co-workers who spend 60-90 minutes each way every work day in a combo of car-bus-train and have to worry about stoppages, weather, etc.

I traded money for time and do not regret it one iota.

I miss grilling or sitting in the backyard and the chance of a more extensive garden. I do not miss trimming hedges, mowing lawns, and shoveling snow.

Doanld Trump sacrifice…

He was born on third base and sacrificed being able run around to touch first and second.

It’s a tough life.

By the way…just got another Hillary campaign email. Tomorrow’s bus tour stop here in Columbus has been moved up from 3 pm to 12:30 pm. That adds a little drama to my day…but I am still going to try to make it. i really want to see her and Kaine.

re: #407 dangerman

i once froze in the middle of giving a best man toast
a truly dangerous moment

I testified in front of the St. Paul city council when they were cutting funding for a good program. I froze when I was supposed to start speaking, and just stared at everyone on the council in an internal panic. I finally was able to start talking and managed to say what I wanted to say, making some points that other people hadn’t made, so I sat down rattled but glad I’d done it.

A friend of mine who was at the meeting told me how great it was that I’d stared down all the council members before I’d given them a piece of my mind. Apparently I’d come off as a tough guy giving the council the stink eye.

I’m still scared to death of speaking to groups.
