Temperance gone wild:

Bihar govt seeks to outsource guilt; family may be arrested if a member consumes liquor at home

[…]

On Friday, the draft of a new amendment to the Excise act was circulated in the Assembly for the lawmakers’ comments. The draft bill seeks to introduce certain stringent clauses, which includes arresting a woman even if her husband is found consuming alcohol. That the man could have consumed liquor without his wife’s knowledge or consent, doesn’t seem to be a possibility considered while drafting the bill.

Among other bizarre proposals of the bills is the clause, wherein all adult members of a family can be arrested if alcohol is consumed, sold, manufactured or even stored at a home. If the draft gets the State Assembly’s nod, it will be presumed that all adult members of a family are aware that alcohol is being consumed/ stored at the house. How will justice be delivered in a state like Bihar, where the culture of joint families and large households is common, escapes one’s imagination. It is also unclear, how the state administration plans to decide who among the family

Getting struck by lightning is supposed to be rare:

Odisha: 36 dead, 37 injured in lightning strikes

Lightning Strikes killed at least 36 people and critically injured 37 in several districts of Odisha Saturday. While some of the victims were working in the paddyfield, others had taken shelter under trees. This is the highest number of deaths due to lightning strikes in one day in the state.

I had honestly forgotten he said that since he insulted the Khans not long after. It’s gotta be tough for opps research in a way since you’re just getting done filing a report about how Trump said he wanted to hit some of the DNC speakers and then he attacks the parents of a Muslim family who lost a child in combat and berates a fire marshall and questions the effectiveness of a general. God only knows what he’ll say tomorrow or the rest of tonight.

Anyway, getting back to Hindu extremism, if you recall, the other day I linked a story about two Dalit women who were beaten by some devout Hindus who thought the women were carrying beef (from cows), though they were carrying buffalo meat.

Now a Dalit politician points out:

Hindu religion in danger because of its protectors, say BJP leader Udit Raj

Like with the alcohol ban I posted previously, the problem with the majority Hindus wanting to exert their hegemony over the observants of minor religions appears to be boiling over in some places.

Modernity threatens not just fundamentalist Christians and Moslems. All of the older belief systems are being strongly challenged not just by the likes of science but, perhaps more so, by globalization and interlocking economies and free movements of peoples.

There is something seriously wrong with Trump’s mind. He’s saying that HRCs campaign stop in PA is “like a robber visiting their victim.” This makes absolutely zero sense. He’s attacking her because her hubby signed NAFTA. Trump doesn’t seem to realize that Papa Bush has ties to NAFTA, too, but never mind that ‘cause, it’s guilt by association time for HRC, ya’ll. Forget about the GOPers in the Senate who voted to approve the agreement. In Trump’s mind, they weren’t there, and had nothing to do with NAFTA. He’s also ragging on TPP. I seriously doubt Trump could discuss anything about NAFTA or TPP.

“”A vote for Hillary is a vote to destroy American manufacturing and to surrender to the global special interests bankrolling Hillary’s life,” Miller said. “You can feed anything into her prompter, but the money flowing from globalists to Clinton doesn’t lie — nor does her record. She is a radical corporatist who will tell any falsehood — just like she did about her emails — to enrich her donors and sell out the working people of America.”“
politico.com

This jackwagon is talking about globalists, corporatists, and telling falsehoods, and although he doesn’t realize it, he’s talking about himself. He is good at lashing out at HRC, but what he isn’t good at is being specific about how he would solve any of the problems he identifies.

I’ve had no use for him since he called the president a “d*ck.” He’s been kissing so much of Trump’s *ss that his lips have left a permanent mark on Trump’s behind. What grown person gets excited about riding on some guy’s private plane? Mark Halperin, that’s who. There are some things that adults should not say/do, but Trump does, and it’s hacks like Halperin who cover for them, thereby, normalizing their bad behavior. If President Obama said the things Trump has been saying, he’d be crucified by the press 24/7/365, which is why I pay no attention to the sh*t that hacks like Halperin write when they blame him for the divisiveness in the nation and the increase in racism, discrimination, bigotry, Islamophobia, etc. The hacks promote/sanction it, then pretend to be surprised that it’s occurring.

The GOPers already have a response to this. Something like this is only considered to be scandalous when RWers see a political opponent do it. They hounded Anthony Weiner to the point where he resigned from Congress. All they’ll most likely say about this is that “Democrats are jealous because MT is such a beautiful woman.” On an issue like this one, the staunch RW Christian Republicans are more than willing to defend it. Selective outrage combined with selective forgiveness are in their special tool kit for excusing the inexcusable.

Nah. They used to — if there were Laura Bush pictures like this out there, they would have focus-grouped the responses to death and back. Now, they just flat-out ignore and/or make shit up. It’s photoshopped! It’s not really her! Hey at least it’s not like we have to see naked pictures of Hitlery, right! And they’ll successfully keep it in the news for days past the sell-by.

I’ve never been clear on what the meaningful differences are, so I go with psychopath which seems to be somewhat better defined.

Psychopathy Checklist.

As far as I can tell a sociopath is just a psychopath who either has less control or fewer support mechanisms in place to help insulate him from the effects of his anti-social tendencies. Whatever the case Trump definitely displays the entire range of Cluster B personality disorders.

So this dude thinks the FL is Bigfoot?

First, I think you have Trump’s supporters classified correctly when you say you haven’t met one on Twitter who hasn’t expressed racist sentiments.

Second,I don’t know what it is about some people. I’ve never been able to understand how they can claim to be Christians, claim to believe that God created each of us in his own image, and then compare some of us to animals. If I thought this way, I’d drive myself crazy. What good is it to claim you believe a certain thing when you don’t live your beliefs?

They are more likely to live in Republican states. The states with the highest percentage of non-filers, with the exception of Florida and New Mexico, are solidly red. Ezra Klein calculates that Mr. Romney will receive “96 electoral votes from the ‘taker’ states” while Mr. Obama will receive 5. (29 are tossups.)

More than one-fifth are elderly. David Frum says they’re “people who pay no income taxes because their income takes the form of Social Security.”

Most of them pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes than Mr. Romney. Here’s Ezra Klein again: “Among the American who paid no federal income taxes in 2011, 61 percent paid payroll taxes—which means they have jobs and, when you account for both sides of the payroll tax, they paid 15.3 percent of their income in taxes, which is higher than the 13.9 percent that Romney paid.”

Some of them are simply too poor to pay federal taxes. In 2011, 18.1 percent of households paid neither income tax nor payroll taxes. Within that group, more than half are elderly; over one-third are nonelderly with annual income under $20,000.

Some of them are wealthy, and manage to slip into Mr. Romney’s dependent-victim category due to exemptions and deductions. As ABC noted in June, “20,752 households that reported earning more than $200,000 in 2009 paid no federal income taxes. About 1,500 of those tax-free Americans were millionaires.”

Yeah because Garland isn’t “moderate”. I’m tired of Republicans thinking that the idea of Democrats compromising should be giving Republicans most of what they want. DF actually suggested this too and I had to point out to him that Garland is already a compromise in awareness that his party controls the Senate. It really is unbelievable the shit they expect from us but it’s perfectly okay for them to do shit that they do.

I guess I’m one of the “unlucky” seniors. I ended up owing federal taxes for 2015, and I live in a red state [GA.] This is why I have problems when I hear some on the right say that liberals/Democrats are sucking on the government teat because none of us work or have ever had a job. The KKK’s history is actually pretty interesting Sharp. The first KKK was pretty much exclusively Dems. It was Southern and Dems who were Civil War veterans but it faded away after Reconstruction ended. The second KKK and perhaps the most successful version of it was across the country. It had members in both parties and expanded its message from Anti-Black to ANti-Semitic, Catholic, Labor, etc.

Not to mention the KKK hates the Democratic Party. Oh and the KKK has grown very Anti-Gay and Muslim in its recent version too. Hmmmm. One finds the strangest things in throw-away news stories:

Former embedded journalist delivers ‘Radical Evolution’ seminar

Former Washington Post reporter, Joel Garreau, Lincoln professor of Law, Culture and Values at Arizona State University spoke July 14 at Heritage Hall about his book “Radical Evolution.”

Mr. Garreau, whose seminar provoked thoughts on the future of Army sustainment, logistics and warfighter readiness, was invited to speak as part of ASC commanding general Maj. Gen. Kevin O’ Connell’s Leadership Professional Development Seminar series.

[…]

Okay, that all sounds quite boring and typical for a local news story…

Mr. Garreau was embedded with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency while working on his book.

“For the first time in our history we have the ability to take control of our evolution,” he said. He called this period in human advancement “one of the biggest inflection points in the past 10,000 years.”

That’s a common assertion found in futurist-speak, but it is not true. We’ve been in (at least partial) “control” of our evolution ever since we became self aware. Sexual selection in particular, but even more so since the advent of agriculture and civilization.

But it’s not a weird claim, just a wrong one.

The story drones on and on and then:

He cited the “telekinetic monkey” — a monkey with a computer chip embedded in its brain — who during research and testing in 2003 was able to move objects long distance with its thoughts.

Wait…what??

I think, I think, that to which he refers is a neural-to-electronics connection. These have been tried many times.

But the article writer makes is sound like there really was a telekinetic monkey.

On the one hand, that’s depressing.

On the other hand, maybe it should be something like that. For better or for worse, people expect politicians to lie about stuff. It’s baked into our culture. But people expect those lies to be calculated, rational, told for a reason.

It’s the bizarre, silly lies that illustrate that Trump isn’t lying to get a leg up, but simply because he doesn’t give a damn about having any sort of relationship with the truth.

Suppose for a moment Hillary Clinton is lying about her feelings on TPP. Okay, whatever, that’s an intelligent, calculated lie to improve her chances in the election. Why lie about the damned NFL, though? It’s irrational, ill-considered, clearly impulsive. Dopey. It paints the temperament picture.

Progress is the best kind of revenge to feed persons like these. Part of their animus toward this particular president, I think, has to do with their unrealized dreams and missed opportunities. I’m going to share a little story with you, Mattand. Before my daughter was born, my ex-husband and I moved into a neighborhood in which we were the only black family. After he and I divorced, I raised my daughter alone from the age of five. She graduated high school and college with honors. The strange thing was that few of her peers in the neighborhood managed to graduate high school, and none of them attended or graduated from college. I tell you this to encourage you to be cheerful in spite of the mess they believe in, say and do. You can, and will, be victorious in spite of them. Just keep your eye on your goal(s.) Keep an eye on them but never, ever allow them to impede your progress toward doing the things you want to do. And, always keep in your mind that they don’t run your life, you do.

Remember a few years back, when the Girl-Scouts-as-Lesbian-front thing was going around (in fundamentalist circles) in various forms?

Well, the Girl Scouts are now back on the fundy radar again:

Girl Scouts is on course for disaster: boys dressing as girls can join

The latest downward slide for Girl Scouts: ‘Girl’ is now optional

It’s amazing how concerned conservatives get about what private organizations do when it’s something they don’t like.

It’s a place where a collection of former lizards, embittered by their abrupt and forced departure, gather to hang out, trash Charles and LGF, and mock and even stalk current members.

So many of them are all in. For that, WayneO gets himself a picket on September 12 when his seminary hosts a lovely soiree for the publication of his latest theological deadweight. I’m gonna be there with bells on.

I thought I got through to my friend when we talked guns. He seemed on board with the idea of universal background checks but then he posted memes bitching about Obama’s plan. I dunno. Personally, I think he’s someone who could benefit from getting information from other sources. He gets his info from people we know aren’t refutable. He has some prejudices though that can’t be overcome with mere changing sources though.

Hey, Majii:

Appreciate it. I’ve been a little obsessed lately with all of the people I know who are in full metal “HRC is no different than Trump” mode. That line of thought becomes even more ludicrous, when you look at how Trump made the calculation that running as an unapologetic bigot would make him leader of the GOP.

Thanks for sharing that story about your daughter, too. I’m glad you both are doing okay. I’m guessing you’ve had to put up with crap that I never have, and most likely never will. I need reminders like that every so often.

Much of my current shitty mood involves dealing with my dad, who has basically decided he knows more about diabetes and rehab than all of the professionals who are currently trying to save his ass. He’s always had this “I’m the smartest person in any given room” attitude, which served him well in business but is slowly killing him now.

Mainly because he doesn’t want to adjust his diet and exercise more. Fucking insane.

He’s lying. Khan didn’t say Trump hadn’t read the Constitution, he asked him if he’d “even read it.” I know that distinction is too subtle for Trump but Khan’s question had a legitimate basis in things like Trump not knowing the number of articles in the document and his clearly unconstitutional policies.

Much of my current shitty mood involves dealing with my dad, who has basically decided he knows more about diabetes and rehab than all of the professionals who are currently trying to save his ass. Dallas weatherman says ‘slain thugs’ comment that led him to resign had no racist intent

Mothers who have lost children to gun violence, part of the Mothers of the Movement group, spoke during the second day of the Democratic National Convention at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

The Facebook message, posted Wednesday, said, “As many of you have probably noticed, I’ve stayed away from politics on FB. The DNC parading the mothers of slain thugs around on their stage has me furious.”

The comment came after black women whose children have died while in custody, in police shootings or other gun violence took the stage at the Democratic National Convention.

Goosmann later posted a comment on dallasnews.com that said he didn’t mean to denigrate the mothers or the lives lost.

“I was angry that the DNC used these mothers to garner votes, and that was it,” he wrote.

He said some thought he was making a racial statement and he’s sorry it caused such trouble for those who did.

“I used the word thugs in my post, but I thought a thug was just a violent person. The definition of thug does not mention any race,” he wrote. “I will say I talked with an African American acquaintance and he told me that he feels like when he hears the word, it is in reference to an African American individual. I had NO IDEA.”

Houston Chronicle Editorial Board:

“…Any one of Trump’s less-than-sterling qualities - his erratic temperament, his dodgy business practices, his racism, his Putin-like strongman inclinations and faux-populist demagoguery, his contempt for the rule of law, his ignorance - is enough to be disqualifying. His convention-speech comment, “I alone can fix it,” should make every American shudder. He is, we believe, a danger to the Republic.

It’s telling that so many Republicans have distanced themselves from their party’s nominee. That sizeable list includes a number of prominent Texans, Bush family members foremost among them, as well as Sen. Cruz and House Speaker Joe Straus. These stalwart Republicans are concerned not only about the future of their party (and, with the exception of the two Bush presidents, their own political careers), but, more important, they’re concerned about the future of this nation.”
…………………..
“….issues in this election are almost secondary to questions of character and trustworthiness. We reject the “cartoon version” of Hillary Clinton (again to borrow her husband’s phrase) in favor of a presidential candidate who has the temperament, the ability and the experience to lead this nation.

These are unsettling times, even if they’re not the dark, dystopian end times that Trump lays out. They require a steady hand. That’s not Donald Trump.”

Since I don’t believe for a minute that Trump is as wealthy as he claims, it’s going to be interesting to see what happens to him after he hopefully loses the election.

I suspect that his days as a bully may be coming to a swift end.

His ego is forcing him to spend far more on the election than planned, and his brand is being tarnished far more than he suspects. He’s probably running up considerable debt and is burning bridges he doesn’t realize he’ll need to recover. And without wealth, his ability to bully will be severely diminished. His political connections will no longer have any need to support him and even his kids may turn against him when they realize he has no wealth left to covet or to support their lifestyles.

I’m hoping his fall will be epic and just compensation for the damage he’s done to the country during the campaign.

I agree with Seth Meyers: Trump won’t release his tax returns because he’s broke

“Trump,” he said to the camera, “I think you’re not releasing your taxes because you don’t have any money. I think you’re broke. I don’t even think you have an accountant. I think you use TurboTax.”

“You’re not running for president because you want the power or you want to make America great, I think you need the $400,000 a year salary,” said Meyers.

Yes, he did mean to refer to those women’s dead kids as thugs because that’s the accepted term used by many on the right to justify cops killing/shooting some of our citizens down in our streets. The funny thing for me, though is that they would never describe someone like Dylann Roof or Robert Dear as thugs, and they’d use their go-to excuse and classify them as mentally ill. So, do they use double standards when talking about crime? Yes, yes, they do, and they know they do. I’m different than they are because I hate hearing of anyone losing a child for any reason. They, on the other hand, create special categories for anyone who isn’t a part of their “tribe,” which is why I call BS on their “Prayers to the family” when someone they like passes on.

Since I live in GA, I can agree with this. There are many here who don’t understand why their lives aren’t better, but they never miss a chance to vote for GOP politicians who throw millions away each year on “attracting” businesses to GA. The Atlanta Journal Constitution had an article about these lost millions. The journalist mentioned that many of the corporations fail to create the promised number of jobs, and that when this happens, the corporations are supposed to return some of the money to the state, but they don’t. When the journalist asked one of the GOP pols why this was the case, he said something about, “They’re working on it.” No, they’re not working on it. The state government is run by GOPers, and they’ve never seen a corporation they wouldn’t give a tax break to, and they never fail to pass a piece of legislation giving them more power over our citizens. For all of GOP pols’ talk about transparency in government, there’s little of that here.

“Thank you, Khizr Khan, for driving them crazy”

I’m insulted by their claims that the Dems “stole” conservative values from them. WTF have these persons been? They don’t own patriotism, family values, Christianity, ideas on domestic and foreign policy, etc. The only reason they believe they do is because they’ve heard their politicians make the claim over and over again. They should be reminded at this time that one cannot steal something they don’t have. It’s been a long time since members of the GOP could be described as possessing the aforementioned characteristics, especially not when they made a concerted effort to drive moderates out of the party. A couple years ago, I read how GOPers in Kansas ran moderates out of the GOP, and that it was a deliberate move. They got Brownback and much grief and now they’re having to live with it. I don’t think those who voted for him considered the fact that he might not be a good pick for governor, but all they needed to see to vote for him was the [R] beside his name. When things first began to go “south” for the state’s economy a few years ago, Brownback blamed the president, and he’s still refusing to accept responsibility even after the latest credit downgrade.

Jones had written in journals that someone named Josh had ordered and funded the construction of the explosive device that would be used. Those notes prompted FBI agents to question Cluff and his wife and search their home. He has since been cleared. “My family is freaking broken now,” Cluff says. They blamed the DNC and “liberals” in general for the booing and chants of “no more war” during Gen John Allen’s speech.

This will be the one time where I just flat out blame Bernie for this. It’s his monster. And, yes, I know they’re spinning what actually happened.

My list of “Things I Don’t Understand About GOPers” continues to grow. I can now add “Why Do They Still Want To Make Every Decision Even When They Lose Elections?”

“The Berniebro gift to the world of Fox News”

Is that Palin’s son-in-law? If so, I’d read on The Immoral Minority blog-spot that he’d be appearing on Fox News. I guess we can add another grifter to the Palin Family Enterprise. Don’t take the following the wrong way. He’s entitled to his opinion, but I can’t help notice that he’s following the SP path to draw attention to himself via FN. He’s the guy the current president presented the MOH award to, and as soon as he aligned himself with the Palins, he began attacking him in public. Before that, he had nothing negative to say about the president.

WiGOP still running fake democrats.

Russ Feingold faces primary in newcomer Scott Harbach

“I believe in miracles,” Harbach said of his chances of winning the primary. He gave his campaign $300, he said, a symbolic amount that mirrored the Biblical figure Gideon going into battle with 300 men.

Harbach said he has never run for elective office. In the past, he has supported Republicans. In 2004, Harbach contributed $170 to Reince Priebus when the future Republican National Committee chairman ran for state Senate, according to the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign database.

Harbach said he briefly volunteered for Mark Neumann’s losing U.S. Senate race in 1998 against Feingold.

So why run now?

“I think it was divine intervention,” Harbach said.

Harbach said he is an independent Democrat but claims on his website: “Somehow God has been pushed out of the Democratic Party and it has become an atheist party.”
