Trump: “Putin’s Not Going Into Ukraine, OK? Well, He’s There in a Certain Way.”

I’m really running out of words to describe this horrific human being’s venal ignorance. In the full interview with George Stephanopoulos which aired today, Donald Trump mixed up a word salad worthy of Sarah Palin, and appeared totally ignorant that Russia had already invaded Ukraine, starting two years ago.

“[Putin’s] not going into Ukraine, okay, just so you understand. He’s not going to go into Ukraine, all right? You can mark it down. You can put it down. You can take it anywhere you want,” Trump said.

Stephanopoulos pushed back, reminding Trump that Putin’s “already there, isn’t he?” Trump quickly changed the topic to Obama bashing.

“Okay — well, he’s there in a certain way. But I’m not there. You have Obama there,” Trump said. “And frankly, that whole part of the world is a mess under Obama with all the strength that you’re talking about and all of the power of NATO and all of this. In the meantime, he’s going away. He takes Crimea.”

Wow. What an incoherent mess.

This isn’t just word salad. I’m not even going to go with willful ignorance. I’m going with active malice with intent to deceive.

He simply cannot reply to any questions with a fact/truthful opinion.

And his way of dealing with pushback is to simply spin away to some other nonsensical raving.

Throw in his campaign’s statements regarding the debate schedule and you’re seeing a campaign that simply wont conform to any rational basis for anything. It’s all lies and obfuscations all the time. Even on easily verified facts (like who scheduled the debates, when the NFL scheduled their games, and who contacted whom and how).

I truly fear with all of the well deserved outrage over Trump’s other comments, this idiocy will fly under the radar. I honestly think this should disqualify the man from being considered as POTUS.

The rules of political journalism are being rewritten right now. So far the journalists are behind the curve and merely reacting.

It really is impossible to tell by this point if Trump is a con man or if he really is that stupid. Though I’m not really sure if there’s any functional difference, as even as con man can convince you he’s an idiot and an idiot can occasionally pull off a con job.

Media will be attacked for not pushing back or pushing back too hard.

I’m with the hard pushback. Challenging him ends up not only showing his lack of knowledge/judgment, but he makes so many unforced errors that he doubles down on the idiocy.

It really does seem like Trump is on the verge of some kind of massive breakdown. How long can he keep this sham of a campaign going? Every day there’s not one, but several examples of sheer batshit insanity from this guy — lies, distortions, personal attacks, egomaniacal boasting. I’ve never seen anything like this.

One of the traits of any bully is being the one in control. When you press them, when you don’t let them control the situation, then you find out pretty quickly that they have no way of handling the pressure. They do everything they can to try to squirm away from it.

I’m expecting an epic breakdown when he loses in November. The man is not used to losing and when he does, he tries to sue his way to a win. So I would not be surprised if his response to a loss on Election Night is to file a lawsuit to effectively get the results thrown out.

You know how the GOP complains that Hillary doesn’t give press conferences. Well, it’s not like she doesn’t speak to the press at all. She repeatedly gives press gaggles, which are informal pressers. Just as informative, if not more so, but not a formal press conference.

Trump, on the other hand, gives tons of pressers, all of which are an evolving shit show of insanity.

And with his recent tweets about the debate schedule, it’s obvious that he or one of his handlers is realizing that actually taking part in a one-on-one debate with Hillary will be bloody. His entire shtick is rattling the opposition and Hillary is not a woman who rattles easily. When questioned, he defaults to attacking his opponent and then trying to spin their response. So look for him to start making noises that he’s not going to debate unless it’s “fair,” with the definition of “fair” being whatever demands he thinks will give him an edge.

33

34
BigPapa  Jul 31, 2016 • 12:38:08pm

I suspect Trump has some serious conditions. I’m not a pro and this isn’t some cheap partisan shot: there really is something wrong with him. It’s easy to say he’s just a jerk and a narcissist but there’s more going on than that.

Add to that a media landscape that is relatively new as a species/culture/society. Not trying to be overly dramatic and Godwin this thought, but what if Hitler was born in 1950 and came into this day and age of Immediate Media?

Trump is the first batshit insane politician of the modern age. Some moments I believe he’ll be destroyed by his own insanity due to the information platform, other moments I’m terrified by the thought that this is Mussolini or Hitler with a much better propaganda arm x 10 than they had 80 years ago.

And there are few and far between actual journalists stepping up to call it as it is. I think in large part because they just can’t believe this guy is such the train wreck as he appears.

If the GOP is putting any plans together, they involve how to weather the fallout of a Trump loss. They have a Plan Z that’s labeled “In Case Shit Happens,” i.e. if Trump actually wins, but that basically involves trying to muzzle him for 4 years while Pence and Congress rule in his place.

Nah, won’t happen, this whole campaign is built upon Trump’s ego. There’s no way he’ll bow out voluntarily. Even when he loses in November, he’ll insist on dragging the process out as long as it takes to spin Hillary’s victory as “illegitimate.”

Cut an ad, face the camera, outline the timeline, outline he agreed, outline the process. Have links on screen. Then just say “Donald Trump is trying to get out of the debates because he is a coward”

Run it everywhere at least once and damn the cost.

I don’t know the legalities behind that re: the ballots and the like. I’d imagine there might be some court battles as to if Trump’s votes count for Kasich? Not to mention how does that impact all the early voters? I just don’t see that scenario playing out.

What I *DO* see is as we get into late September / Early October (assuming the polls continue to show Trump’s path essentially DOA) , the GOP basically just ignoring the Presidential election.. going so far as to say on TV stuff like “I’m not concerned with the Presidency right now - but we need the Senate!” things like that.

Also, let’s all remember that Trump has long felt spurned by New York City’s “High Society” - something he very much wants to be a part of, as it would justify his feelings of superiority. That NYC’s Society Set looks down him infuriates Trump to no end; and when he loses, it’ll be even worse for him….he will become a laughing stock, the butt of jokes and if there’s something we’ve all observed about Trump, that is something he will simply not tolerate - he’s too thin-skinned and his ego is incredibly fragile.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised - not one damn bit - if Trump pulled up stakes and moved to Russia, or at least seriously considered such a move. Because he will be even more looked down upon by the Big Apple’s movers and shakers and his rage will go off the charts.

re: #58 Dr Lizardo

That’s why I expect the epic breakdown, because Trump’s ego will not allow him to concede and odds are there’s no way he’ll be able to turn enough votes to overturn the election results. So he’ll just dissolve into a condescended ball of furious rage, screaming that he didn’t lose, he was “robbed” and the American people know the “truth.” And that will be the rallying cry for the wingnuts for the next 4 years.

Trump is insane.

There’s no other reason. A sociopath and a pathological liar. He makes stuff up because he’s an ignoramus and can’t stand in truth, facts, details and the like. So he makes shit up as he goes, flying by the seat of his pants.

He’s truly Jon Lovett’s fictional character. Except he’s not funny. And he’s real.

And he’s absolutely terrifying.

It is from a guy who claims to have been in a security detail of some sort and had first hand experience interacting with the GWB, Hillary Clinton, and Obama.

The writer claims Hillary treated him and his team very poorly.

This should all sound familiar. There were back in 2007/2008 these kind of things popping up all the time, and I remember some being posted here in comments by anti-Clinton wingnuts.

Trump doesn’t show up for the debates… Hillary takes the stage by herself. Trump’s podium is empty. Debate continues as planned, basically making it a Hillary press conference where she has all the time by herself to answer all the questions with reasoned, well-established facts. Score.

It’s not as if Republicans are capable of debating any issues in a reality based way. So this would be perfect.

Charles Johnson  Jul 31, 2016 • 2:11:07pm

Jim Hoft’s latest attack on Hillary Clinton is typically dishonest and stupid, claiming she “lied” in her DNC speech about seeing a child in a wheelchair in New Bedford, Massachusetts, who told her she couldn’t go to school because was disabled. This happened when Hillary was working for the Children’s Defense Fund in 1973.

thegatewaypundit.com

Hoft blurts:

Hillary told the crowd about how she helped that girl get to school.

But she never said she “helped the girl get to school” in her speech at all. She said she was inspired to work for children with disabilities by meeting the girl. Hoft even quotes HIllary’s own words that don’t say anything like what he’s attributing to her.

So, I went to work for the Children’s Defense Fund, going door-to-door in New Bedford, Mass., on behalf of children with disabilities who were denied the chance to go to school.

I remember meeting a young girl in a wheelchair on the small back porch of her house. She told me how badly she wanted to go to school — it just didn’t seem possible in those days. And I couldn’t stop thinking of my mother and what she’d gone through as a child.

It became clear to me that simply caring is not enough. To drive real progress, you have to change both hearts and laws. You need both understanding and action.

His source for the claim is a wingnut talk radio host, and it’s actually debunked in the comments for this article about the fake controversy: New Bedford’s Former Mayor Questions Clinton’s NB Story.

Chapter 766 which was Massachusetts Special Education Law was passed in 72, went into affect in 74. PL 94-142 which guarenteed all students between the ages of 3-22 a free appropriate public education was not signed into law until 1975 by President Ford.

There’s probably more written about this elsewhere, but I did find this column reporting that New Bedford had a specific, statistically significant problem with the school roles not matching the census rolls. Children were being neglected, this was why the area was targeted by CDF.

What called their attention to New Bedford was the great unexplained discrepancy between Census figures and the actual count of children attending school. Dozens of children were simply not accounted for in the classroom. The defense fund, which grew out of the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s, sent Rodham and others here to go door to door, to literally survey the city house by house.

Taliban I suspect.

I dunno, Da’esh claimed the last one and the Taliban condemned them. With so many players it’s hard to tell who’s perpetrating the mayhem nowadays.

Meanwhile, the Afghan Taliban, which remains a dominant force but threatened by the rapid expansion of the IS in the war-torn country, has condemned the attack. Denying they have any hand in the attack, the group said it was a “plot to ignite a civil war” in Afghanistan.

A Taliban spokesperson added that the Islamist group, which has carried out a series of attacks on Afghan forces in the recent past, condemns any move which attempts to create ethnic and religious divisions in Afghanistan. […]

Donald Trump is claiming that he helped to build the Vietnam War Memorial, but a newspaper account from 1984 reveals that Trump is lying.

Here is what Trump claimed he did during an interview with ABC News, “I was very responsible along with a group of people for getting the Vietnam Memorial built.”

A 1984 Washington Post article revealed that while Trump was on the board to get the memorial built, he blew off most of the meetings, “* One official of the Vietnam Commission, who has attended all the meetings, maintains Trump has been to only two or three out of 20 meetings. This was confirmed by another member of the commission. The first time he attended a meeting was to launch the commission, one source says, and the second was when he arrived with a reporter who was profiling him.

I don’t think this attempt at turning ‘SJW’ into a slur is stupid. If it succeeds, it will be very troublesome.

It’s evil. Just like nearly everything the US right does or attempts to do.

Palin tried it in 2008 using the term ‘community organizer’ as a slur. That didn’t work out so well for her.

These are the same loons who take it as a matter of solemn faith that Hillary and her gang have managed to subvert any number of official investigations of Benghazi, including several by the GOP Congress. This is not to mention the literally hundreds of other crimes they have accused her of in the last 25 years. Hillary’s tentacles reach seamlessly across the world and across 3 decades but only a deluded low information welfare voter could imagine that Putin would even think of trying to interfere in American politics.

A Mom Anon  Jul 31, 2016 • 3:02:01pm

I’ve bee thinking a lot about this Trump syndrome, with rich people especially, but it doesn’t just effect rich people. Obviously. All of this is pure speculation on my part, but if I’m even a little bit right about this, it explains a few things. Bear with me a little….

From what we know of Donalds’ upbringing, he was raised in wealth and most likely didn’t hear the word no alot when it came to getting stuff. Toys, going where he wanted, doing stuff he wanted, etc. But I do wonder how much he was bullied at home, at school, etc. Did he have friends growing up or were they just people who hung out with him for the money or were they kids like him? Were his parents kind and affectionate or cold, removed, self absorbed? None of these things guarantee any particular outcome, but bullies are not born, they are made, he learned that shit somewhere.

We all read stories fairly regularly about rich kids or adults who get into trouble because they know there won’t be consequences. They can buy their way out of bad situations or even flee the country if it’s bad enough.

So, is the difference between a miserable and insufferable asshat and a well adjusted person maybe just having a purpose or passion that extends outside themselves? Because, the more I think about the disdain for “community organizers” and “social justice warriors” the more I think it comes from people who lack not just empathy, but purpose. So maybe the way to cure or prevent affluenza (and whatever you would call the poor and working class version of that) is to steer people, preferably early, into some sort of something that takes them out of their own heads and puts them into a community as a functional member.

Hey, it’s a rainy evening here, I’ve got some time to think about stuff.

‘The Making of Donald Trump’ reveals how billionaire’s attempt to woo mobster’s daughter ended when he told him he’d ‘pull your balls from your legs’

Donald Trump was once threatened with castration after courting the wrong woman — the daughter of a reputed New Jersey mobster, according to a new book.

Trump, while still married to his first wife Ivana, shamelessly tried to seduce the 30-something daughter of Robert Libutti, a high-rolling horse dealer with ties to infamous Gambino boss John Gotti, the book alleges.

When Libutti got wind that Trump was trying to bed his daughter, the Garden State gambler confronted the real estate mogul and issued the most frightening of threats.

“Donald, I’ll f——-g pull your balls from your legs,” Libutti told him, according to the new book by journalist David Cay Johnston, “The Making of Donald Trump.”

It gets better.

Just getting back from the Stronger Together Clinton - Kaine 2016 Bus Tour gig.

I am wore out!

Pretty cool event. Sure were a ton of people and they were energetic. Definitely Hillary - Kaine supporters. And it seemed all they said was off the cuff unscripted. No podium just a platform stand a mic.

Most memorable line was Tim Kaine saying he got to be with Bill Clinton yesterday in Pennsylvania and even though he (Kaine) has been in politics a long time, ten minutes on the bus with Bill taught him he still had a lot to learn.

Hillary’s best was when she got into saying she didn’t think she could do it alone and if she wins she expects those that voted for her to hold her accountable because she stands with us.

She had a pretty good line about how she plans to fund government. Higher taxes and less ways to shirk taxes for big huge corporations and rich people. Then she said people ask her why…don’t you like successful people. And she said “Yes, I do, but you have to get the money from somewhere and that is where all the money you saw go away went. That is where the money is and it is time to get some of it back.”

The crowd went wild. And the crowd was not a lot of people looking for a handout (in GOP terms). In fact I was surprised the crowd was a cross section of Columbus, which is a cross section of America. All colors all classes. It might have actually been a little high on the upper end. It reminded me of an Ohio State Football crowd.

Oh yeah…my congresswomen, Joyce Beatty spoke after our new Democratic mayor and got the crowd rolling. She said she didn’t realize she was an instant Twitter/Facebook internet star because she wore the same dress as Trumps wife Thursday night. She said as soon as the convention was over her grand babies let her know ‘Grams was famous now!”

Took a bunch of photos. I don’t have the lenses for a lot of close-ups, I was more interested in people at the event…the crowd. I’ll try to post some when I get a chance to download my camera.

And it was hot…hot…hot. Thankfully not too humid but a very bright blue white puffy cloud hot Ohio summer day. Tim Kaine seemed impressed with the city and said they could hear the roar of the crowd when the buses came from behind the buildings on the Fort Hayes grounds. It was in a big commons type field outdoors. And the crowd really did light up when they saw the buses with the huge Stronger Together white letters against blue background.

Actually not so surprising: a lot of Mormons settled in Nevada way before the gambling industry started up: I recall that Howard Hughes used to hire them for top positions in his Vegas operations: he had the notion that, being LDS, they would tend to be more abstemious and honest than other folks he could have hired. Also, apparently more tolerant of working for cuckoo-bird bosses: maybe someone told Trump the same thing….

So, spent the afternoon reading the new Harry Potter book. No spoilers. Just a very quick and enjoyable read. I would definitely go see it as a play. And I’m sure millions of other folks would do the same.

It’s the story of family. Misunderstood kids who are trying to find their place in the world, especially under the shadow of a famous parent, and making the best of it.

I’d say, it’s a much better way to spend the afternoon than Trump spends his time online slamming Gold Star parents (or watching as his supporters excuse his attacks on Gold Star parents).

Coming back online and watching Nolte and others defending Trump is nothing if not predictable. These people have something seriously wrong with them - the lack of empathy as I’ve been saying for a long while, and that’s their fatal flaw.

Me, I spent my afternoon assisting the implementation of a novel idea that my church has started doing in the area: One Sunday a year, we close the church. No services. Instead, we gather up dozens/hundreds of volunteers and perform community service projects for the entire day. It’s our way of actually doing something concrete with our faith, instead of sitting behind our comfy church doors and isolating ourselves from the real world. It’s awesome, I love it, and even though I was exhausted when I got home, it was the good kind of exhausted.

The photos I saw of some deposed Ukrainian politician’s estate were very similar. In his case, he used public money to bedeck an ostentatious house with golden frippery, and create his own private zoo.

See also, corrupt Chinese politicians and African dictators.

And on a similar note, I was thinking today how Trump’s demeanor and behavior reminded me of Kaiser Wilhelm’s, as recorded in the histories of WWI I read last year.

Okay… that’s seriously impressive.

Last year, we did it by ourselves. This year, 14 other churches around the west metro area also stepped up. It embodies what I love about my church: We’re different from most other churches. We walk the walk. It’s why I’ve stayed there even through my transition from wingnut to moderate-liberal. Politics don’t matter here as much as actually living out the faith.

re: #32 Targetpractice

And with his recent tweets about the debate schedule, it’s obvious that he or one of his handlers is realizing that actually taking part in a one-on-one debate with Hillary will be bloody. His entire shtick is rattling the opposition and Hillary is not a woman who rattles easily. When questioned, he defaults to attacking his opponent and then trying to spin their response. So look for him to start making noises that he’s not going to debate unless it’s “fair,” with the definition of “fair” being whatever demands he thinks will give him an edge.

Hillary has been debating Bill Clinton for some 46 years.

re: #304 b.d.

hi guys, I’ve been in and out all day but let me see if I have this right.

the wingnuts are pissed that the dad of a dead soldier is talking but they still are proud that they put the mom of a dead benghazi mercenary on their stage to bash hillary?

Dead-threading, but Sean Smith was NOT a mercenary. He worked for the State Department. STOP smearing him.
