Another Trump Surrogate Pushes the “Muslim Brotherhood” Smear Against Khizr Khan

There’s no bottom for these people
Politics • Views: 36,046

New Hampshire Representative Al Baldasaro is the co-chair of veterans’ issues for the Trump campaign, and he’s now the latest Trump surrogate to push the far right conspiracy theory that gold star father Khizr Khan is a secret member of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Reached by phone in New Hampshire, Baldasaro told ThinkProgress that he believes Khizr Khan, the gold star father who criticized Trump at the Democratic convention, is an agent of the Muslim Brotherhood. Baldasaro explained that he believes Khan has “long ties to the Clinton and Obama campaign.” That is damning because “in the White House there is the Muslim Brotherhood.” Baldasaro suggested “looking it up on the internet” for more information.

There is no evidence that Khan had any connection to Clinton or Obama prior to agreeing to speak at the Democratic convention.

Earlier today Baldasaro tweeted an article from a fringe anti-Islam conspiracy site, making similar claims.

You may remember Mr. Baldasaro’s last appearance at LGF, when he called for Hillary Clinton to be shot for treason. Think Progress reports that Baldasaro’s status with the Trump campaign did not change one bit after he made this appalling statement.

The Trump campaign issued a mild statement saying that they “do not agree” with Baldasaro but was “incredibly grateful for his support.” Baldasaro told ThinkProgress that his role with the Trump campaign had not changed at all since the incident.

Sean Hannity Lumpy Attacks Father Of Fallen U.S. Soldier After Speaking At Democratic National Convention

Sean Hannity Lumpy: What this really seems to be about is politics and a political agenda and a media that is running with it. And he pulls out his Constitution and he tells Donald Trump to read it. You know, this guy is an immigration lawyer. Does anybody know that? So I assume, on issues involving the vetting of refugees and Trump’s general comments about radical Islam — not Islam, radical Islam — and vetting refugees, and building a wall, and immigration, and people that want to come to this country, he has a political grievance with Donald Trump. And in that sense, he specifically focused on EB visas, a special category in which rich foreigners can essentially buy a visa by promising to invest a certain amount of money, so is it possible that this is all about politics here?

So, dead children are now “all about politics”. Disgusting.

This is a case of The Donald really falling for the bait. He could have ridden this out, made some cursory comment about the son’s contribution to the country and how he disagrees with the father, and moved on to the next outrageous topic, but he had to take it personally and respond with a personal attack.

If Lumpy got his head out of Trump’s asshole for once, he’d realize that Khan never campaigned against Bush, McCain, and Romney because those guys to their credit never questioned that Muslim-Americans were loyal to this country. Hell for all I know, Mr. Khan could have a high opinion of Bush.

For the first time, the United States is facing the possibility of having a female president after Hillary Clinton’s nomination by the Democratic party. Even if it does happen, America will be late to the history books – 52 countries have already had a female head of state according to the World Economic Forum Gender Gap Report 2015. In some cases though, those women have only briefly held power.

Yeah you don’t say. I mean I just love the cries of “Don’t politicize this” when Trump is the fucking one who politicized things when he has gone after the patriotism of Muslim-Americans and then made it worse when he and his surrogates went after the Khans. re: #7 Dr. Matt

and yet they had zero issue with trotting out Ms. Smith to accuse Hilary Clinton publicly of allowing her son to be “murdered” while in the service of the consulate in Benghazi.

One is stating that she still holds her accountable despite 11 congressional investigations that found no wrong doing and knowing that the GOP itself was the group that denied the additional security funding for security requests made by the State Department.

The other one is accusing the candidate of holding un-american views in regards to practitioners of his faith and that America is supposed to be inclusive of different ethnicities and beliefs and that it makes his son’s death ironic (if not tragic) since he died for Donald Trump’s right to be a bigoted asshole.

Now that polling is showing a shift in support towards Hillary, Trump needs to prepare a gigantic buffer to protect his ego———the “election was rigged” defense:

But Trump then suggested that November’s general election may not be on the up-and-up.

“I’m afraid the election is going to be rigged,” the Republican nominee told a town hall crowd in Columbus.

Of course when he loses he will not defer graciously to the will of the people. He will gnash his teeth and decry the vast conspiracy that robbed him of the presidency. Given how angry and gullible the core of his support is I hope this does not encourage a significant uptick in political violence. Candidates are supposed to accept their loss for the good of the country. I just cannot imagine the Donald giving a concession speech that does not sound like a call to arms. Then again, maybe he will just say, “Your loss……losers!!!”

In Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, Shirer recounts that during Stalingrad, one of the High Command Generals managed to wring out of Hitler permission to retreat.

However, that was quickly tempered with Hitler’s order that they could retreat provided they didn’t lose any territory.

According to Shirer…..”that bit of foolishness almost drove him (the German general) insane”.

IMO, Donald Trump’s near-maniacal support among the right wing in this country is an indicator of the weakness of desperation: desperation that their extremist agenda is going be substantively rejected by the nation as a whole. And the desperation of extremists rarely works out well - for anyone.

Now that polling is showing a shift in support towards Hillary, Trump needs to prepare a gigantic buffer to protect his ego———the “election was rigged” defense:

I saw that this was mentioned on CNN’s new poll where Hillary Clinton got a 7 point post-convention bounce.

Besides improving her standing against Trump, Clinton’s convention appears to have boosted the share of Americans who think her policies will move the country in the right direction (from 43% before either convention to 48% now), while Trump’s right direction number held roughly steady following the back-to-back political gatherings in Cleveland and Philadelphia.
Further, a majority of Clinton’s backers now say their vote is more to show support for her than to oppose Trump, a sharp shift since early May. Back then, 48% said their vote was one of support for the former secretary of state, 58% say so now. While Trump also improved his numbers on that metric, his voters are more evenly divided, with 47% saying they’re backing him to show support and 50% saying it’s more to oppose Clinton.

This is a really big thing, because it is movement in a fashion where Clinton is expanding on her base voters, and not merely anti-Trump factions whose support come election day are more volatile.

As noted downstairs, the only remaining major road posts are the debates. The other 95 or so days will be spent watching Trump continue to plumb new depths of derp and insanity, barring some black swan event that suddenly convinces 51%+ of the American voters that he’s worth taking a chance on.

So the obvious question is what kind of black swan are Manafort and Putin working on?

Berniebots for Stein

[Embedded content]

Stein’s gotta be screaming. They like Johnson even more than her. I hate to give Johnson credit but after Clinton, he’s probably acted the most presidential. Damning with faint praise I know and God knows he has his own things that are eye roll worthy like not knowing who Harriett Tubman was but I don’t see him on Twitter constantly trying to remind people he’s running too like Stein is.

tRump goes after his second fire marshal. He called a press conference just for this, and only this.

“Just want to tell you—we’ve had thousands of people outside, thousands. They were turned away by—for political reasons—purely for political reasons. They said in this massive building you’re not allowed to have any more than a thousand people. And that’s nonsense. We could’ve had 4,5,6 thousand people. They’ve all been turned away. [INAUDIBLE] It’s a disgrace.

So that’s for political reasons, they were turned away. And that’s too bad. So we have a thousand people in there, they won’t allow any more. The fire marshal said he’s not allowed to allow any more even though the building holds many thousands of people so I just want to tell you that. That’s politics at its lowest—you oughta check it out. But it’s really politics at it’s lowest.”

With Romney, there was a veneer of civilization that people could use to fool themselves into thinking Romney wasn’t a sociopath like most GOPers.

Trump dispenses with that veneer of civilization, and is blatant about the bigotry. Both of these charming features have been big hits with the GOP base.

Right.

Honestly, any speculation I could make would assume that they’re capable of executing any such event without totally cocking it up. The DNC email “scandal” might have been bigger if they had a half-competent nominee who could capitalize on it. But they’ve got Trump, so it went nowhere and further such releases are likely to have an easier lesser effect on moving the needle.

re: #73 Bill and Opus for 2016!

I saw that this was mentioned on CNN’s new poll where Hillary Clinton got a 7 point post-convention bounce.

This is a really big thing, because it is movement in a fashion where Clinton is expanding on her base voters, and not merely anti-Trump factions whose support come election day are more volatile.

I hope the polling stays pretty clearly positive for Hillary so her eventual win will not be a shocker. There is also the possibility that some people will change their support to Hillary because they see her winning and they just want to pull the lever for the winner. People can be pretty strange.

re: #41 EPR-radar

I’m reminded of the German High Command in WWII trying to deal with various improvisations by The Greatest Field Commander of All Time.

Time out for a moment of geek, but I read a book in which the author argued that the German Generals were great battle captains but lousy generals. His opinion was that Hitler was one of the only people at the top end of German power who even considered strategic goals instead of just kicking ass all over the place.
As suicidal as Barbarossa turned out, it was actually grounded in the Germans’ experience from WW1 when they inflicted massive casualties on Russia and knocked them out of the war. Hitler tried to repeat that in 1941 but when the incredible casualties they inflicted didn’t bring down the regime, nobody had a strategy to win the war.
Eisenhower, on the other hand, probably couldn’t have led an assault on a farmhouse, but he focused the Allied effort on the cross Channel invasion and pursuit of the Germans after the breakout. He focused on destroying the German armed forces rather than a single thrust which may or may not have worked.

Geek out

See, this is why I’m optimistic. Clinton is competiting with Trump in some very Republican places. Can’t say that about Trump in Democratic places. Trump has so little room for wiggle room. Really, look at this way, if George W. McCain wants to have it both ways. He wants to be able to distance himself from Trump to save his seat but he doesn’t want to full distance himself because that would require actually standing up to the bigots in the base. What we know about Donald Trump and his taxes so far

He doesn’t pay much and he doesn’t report much income.

In 1975, 1976 and 1977, Trump did pay federal income taxes, it showed. The breakdown:

1975: $76,210 in income; $18,714 in taxes.

1976: $24,594 in income; $10,843 in taxes.

1977: $118,530 in income; $42,386 in taxes.

1978: -$406,379 in income; no taxes.

1979: -$3,443,560 in income; no taxes.

The next record available is from 1984, when Trump also reported no income.

There were at least two years in the early 1990s when Trump appeared to have paid zero, or nearly zero, personal income taxes, Politico reported.

School hasn’t started in most places (today was the first day in parts of GA, but not everywhere), what high school kid is going to give up the end of summer break to go to school and sit at a rally? Especially ones that can’t vote yet. Not that kids aren’t engaged and aware, but any moron who knows kids knows it’s time for hanging out with friends, finishing up that part time summer job and otherwise getting ready for Summer to wind down.

How does SMOTI explain the happy and enthusiastic crowds at the DNC? Were all of those people forced to be there? Idiot.

Screw SMOTI—send the committed adults away from a rally and fill it with fresh kids any day.

He needs to run for office.

Where does he live. Is their a chance the Democrats could recruit him, and have him win, in 2018 or 2020?

Wikipedia says they live in MD. I’m not sure he has an interest in politics, but who knows?

They introduced him as being from Charlottesville in his speech. It’s far from the most right wing part of the state in that they have had a Democratic Congressman in my lifetime but it’s far from strong Democratic area too since the parts of the district outside of UVA are pretty conservative.

re: #170 HappyWarrior

If he is there, he can’t win on account of Gerrymandered districts. If Democrats can seize control of Virginia though, they could redistrict in time for 2018, in theory. (See what happened in Texas.)

re: #175 calochortus

If he is there, it becomes easier, especially if the Democrat in question is nearing the time to step aside.

Apparently Mr. Khan keeps a stack of pocket Constitutions at home to give to people.

PBS contacted the Trump campaign, but they didn’t send anyone or have a response.

Okay, now my friend is just being stupid. Concern trolling Michelle Obama about her line that the President will shape the lives of our children the next four to eight years. Goddamn, I hope to God he doesn’t want to talk politics tonight because I’m honestly afraid of losing my temper and a friend. And he’s posting Wikileaks bs about how Clinton armed Islamic terrorists in Syria. Goddamn.

That’s gotta be the worst fear of the GOP movers and shakers, that they’ll be back in 4 years watching an even bigger buffoon than Trump take the nomination.

Does a bigger buffoon than Trump even exist?

Well that’s assuming he wants to run. Don’t get me wrong, I admire the hell of the guy too but he may not be ready to commit to being a legislator and honestly he does a lot of great things already as an immigration lawyer.

He gives them to UVA ROTC cadets apparently. And his son went to UVA too, his son definitely was a smart guy. UVA is very difficult to get into. I only knew a handful of people who got in there from my high school.

I like how he makes high school kids being excited for Clinton out to be a bad thing. I mean the audience obviously was pretty diverse age wise from all the pictures I’ve seen anyhow so SMOTI must be huffing paint again.

I really believe Dtrumps Achilles heel is his tax forms. He’s not proud of something in his taxes and is doing everything he can to hide it. Could be anything from charity donations to a very low income. Since Donny is so sensitive to any type of criticism, he need to be constantly pounded on this issue. Every anti-Trump commercial ought to have a closing tag such as “Donald…where are your tax forms?”. Keep the issue right out in front until he complies or goes berserk.

True, but I think he could do a lot of good, and we don’t have enough Muslims representing us in Congress.

There should be 4-10 Muslims in the House, and 1-3 in the Senate, based on the incredibly vague demographics about Muslims in the US. We got 2 in the house, none in the Senate.

It is most likely a combination of all speculation I have heard.

He is probably worth less than $1 Billion, has severe debt we don’t know about, and has large connections to Russia.

I don’t disagree with you at all. I just would like to see his thoughts on it. We definitely do need more representation for Muslims for sure. 2 out of 535 in Congress overrall is pretty bad. It’s just that elected office would probably be a big step up for him. Again, if he wants it, I’d happily support him. I just feel that he could legitimately do alot of good things and does in his current profession.

And watch, as soon as Comrade Combover loses, the GOP will try to convince us that they never really supported him, they were just along for the ride. Like the whole party just developed a mass case of Stockholm Syndrome.

I can’t praise you enough for coming up with Comrade Combover!
