What if someone had treated Ivanka in the way Ailes allegedly behaved?

His reply was startling, even by Trumpian standards. “I would like to think she would find another career or find another company if that was the case,” he said.

More good news from the Feds on voting rights:

BISMARCK, N.D. — A federal judge on Monday blocked North Dakota’s state’s voter identification law after it was challenged by a group of American Indians, who alleged it unfairly burdened their right to vote.

U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland issued a temporary restraining order and criticized the state for its 2013 repeal of provisions that let people without valid IDs vote if someone vouched for them or if they signed an affidavit swearing they were a qualified voter.

“The public interest in protecting the most cherished right to vote for thousands of Native Americans who currently lack a qualifying ID and cannot obtain one, outweighs the purported interest and arguments of the State,” Hovland wrote.

He added: “There are a multitude of easy remedies that most states have adopted in some form to alleviate this burden.”

The GOP/conservatives do understand one thing: they know the vote is more dangerous than a firearm and a true existential threat-hence the mass disenfranchisement of people who could put them out of power. Time and demographics are working against them, so this is their last-ditch effort to keep power. It will fail.

But the entire country is not disgusted with them.

Trump’s supporters love this. It’s politically incorrect!

Insulting people without consequence and breaking important social taboos have become a shared tribal affirmation ritual. If they loved it when he insulted John McCain, why wouldn’t they love it when he insults the Pakistani immigrant parents of a dead US Army officer they had never heard of?

There is nothing he can do at this point which will break their support. Any insult however vile, any display of ignorance, any attempt to get even with a critic or show social dominance over the powerless will be celebrated as a personal victory for the racially aggrieved white electorate that drives this movement.

I was really pleased to see that my nephew has been promoted to Senior Airman (E-4) in the US Air Force. He has only been in the Air Force 30 months, so apparently this was an early promotion.

I cannot begin to tell you how thrilled I am that the Air Force has worked out so good for him. There was a long time when he was running with the wrong crowd and getting into some serious trouble (although he was lucky through all that not to have gotten arrested). I’m also glad my dad (who served in the Army in Korea) got to see his grandson in his Air Force uniform before he died two years ago.

I may be a flaming progressive, but I do support our military and see its necessity in a dangerous world. And I’m proud of my nephew.

I presume he’ll claim that the recent court decisions overturning voter ID requirements were orchestrated by the establishment to allow millions of undocumented immigrants to vote for Clinton and “rig” the election. If Trump actually bothers to try to think of justification for his claim.

Because Trump is probably going to lose, we won’t go through the usual American ritual in which the losing candidate gracefully concedes and we have a smooth transfer of power, legitimizing the government. Trump’s ego won’t let him concede to a woman. Instead he’ll say the election was rigged, he’ll demand recounts and file lawsuits, he’ll try to block the electoral college from voting, and demand congressional Republicans reject the electoral vote count “until we get to the bottom of this.” Trump will try to bring about a full-blown constitutional crisis, and even when its over tens of millions of Americans will never view Clinton as having the legitimacy of an elected President.

Not Dubai, but there’s a crisis in Saudi Arabia where 10,000 construction workers from India haven’t been paid for seven months and are out of food. The Indian consulate distributed food packages yesterday. I heard about this on the BBC and was astonished to learn that India has 3 million guest workers in Saudi Arabia.

Former North Carolina Republican official Don Yelton is back in the news again for all the wrong reasons.

Yelton was fired from his job way back in 2013 after he told The Daily Show that his state’s new voter ID law would hurt Democratic voters. Specifically, he said that if the law “hurts a bunch of lazy blacks that want the government to give them everything, so be it.”

An appeals court last week found that the voter ID law was indeed designed to be discriminatory and it even cited Yelton’s remarks to The Daily Show as part of its case for striking down the law.

Yelton was furious about this, and over the weekend he went on an unhinged rant against the ruling on his Facebook page. In particular, Yelton was angry that Buncombe County GOP Chairman Nathan West once again trashed him for being a racist.

Yelton’s FB rant is at the link.

I’m loving his intro to Hillary on the video here.

One of the takeaways: Buffet says that he’s currently under audit by the IRS. He said that he would be more than willing to meet with Donald Trump and release his tax returns, and answer questions on specifics of those returns if Trump does the same - then said the only reason that someone would refuse to make their return public is if they had something to hide.

re: #90 HappyWarrior

It is going to be really really hard to do.

I’m not so sure. Gerrymanders are often quite brittle. Set the lines so you just have a 4/5℅ advantage. Trouble with that is twofold. Changing demographics, which is probably going to have an effect, and enthusiasm. Even a small wave can shatter the gerrymander. Generally if the swing is big enough to threaten the gerrymander it tends to break it.

There is no buffer of voters you get with a normal district which tends to ebb and flow, where you can lose a few voters on 1 issue, but have room to gain a few on another.

If the Democrats can get a big enough swing, they could pull a Texas (circa 2003), and redistrict next year.

What Texas did (with the help of Tom DeLay’s congressional office) was very illegal, and he went to prison for a bit of time over it - until a stacked Texas court - two judges on the appeal board were recused from the case literally one day before the decision - overturned his conviction.

VFW Releases Statement on Trump and It’s Bruising

WASHINGTON — Presidential candidate Donald J. Trump has a history of lashing out after being attacked, but to ridicule a Gold Star Mother is out-of-bounds, said the new national commander of the near 1.7 million-member Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and its Auxiliary. “Election year or not, the VFW will not tolerate anyone berating a Gold Star family member for exercising his or her right of speech or expression,” said Brian Duffy, of Louisville, Ky., who was elected July 27 to lead the nation’s oldest and largest major war veterans organization. “There are certain sacrosanct subjects that no amount of wordsmithing can repair once crossed,” he said. “Giving one’s life to nation is the greatest sacrifice, followed closely by all Gold Star families, who have a right to make their voices heard.”

Well we are talking about members of the same party that booed an openly gay service member four years ago. They haven’t changed much. Trump merely encourages their ugliness. They like to talk about how they support the troops, notice they did cheer at first when she said her son was in the AF but then the second she asked Pence about him continuing to stand by Trump while he disrespected the Khans, they immediately booed her.
