Live Video: Donald Trump Town Hall in Daytona Beach

What insanity will we see today?
Politics • Views: 44,579

YouTube

It’s anybody’s guess what kind of bad craziness will come out of Trump today at his rally in Daytona Beach, Florida; he’s been on a scorched earth rampage for the past week, laying waste to his own career and the Republican Party in general. It’s gotten so bad that a group of Trump’s allies are reportedly planning an intervention.

Which won’t work, of course. Donald Trump is far past that point.

Lot of questions here:

Can Romney get on the ballot in all 50 states (or at least some states)? If he does, what blue states does he have a chance of winning? At the end of the day, for the race to be thrown to Congress, Romney has to win states that Obama won in 2012, and I can’t see him doing that. It’s possible, but highly unlikely - because, after all, it’s the GOP vote getting split not the Democratic vote.

jaunte  Aug 3, 2016 • 12:43:06pm

Stephen Miller:

“…Miller also cuts a deeply unsettling figure, even to many in his own party. His nine-year career working for some of the most politically fringe figures on the Hill—he also worked for Michele Bachmann and helped David Brat in his primary defeat of Eric Cantor—was preceded by a trail of writings and provocations that go all the way back to high school, one that has raised the eyebrows of even conservative Republicans.

There is something eerily vintage about Miller’s stump speeches. The combination of their substance—vilifying immigrants as killers, the promise of nativist glory days ahead—and their delivery with a calm face around a loud, droning mouth, slicked-back hair and sharp suit, floridly invoking powerful cabals against the people: All of it harks back to an earlier time. It’s as if the video should be in black and white, and the microphone in front of Miller an antique, metallic affair.”

Strength Through Joy

Kraft durch Freude (German for Strength through Joy, abbreviated KdF) was a large state-operated leisure organization in Nazi Germany. It was a part of the German Labour Front (Deutsche Arbeitsfront, DAF), the national German labour organization at that time. Set up as a tool to promote the advantages of National Socialism to the people, it soon became the world’s largest tourism operator of the 1930s.

In a sure sign that the presidential campaign of Donald Trump believes that Michigan is in play for the 2016 election, the New York businessman is headed to town Monday for a speech to the Detroit Economic Club.

It will be an interesting venue for the controversial politician. Even though he won Michigan’s primary election, the business crowd in Detroit heavily backed other presidential candidates during the primary and none of them have gotten on board with contributions yet to the Trump campaign.

The speech will be held at noon Monday at the Renaissance Center in Detroit.

From what I’ve seen, people tend to like to be with a winner. For example, people kept voting for Reagan when everyone knew he would win.

There’s two potential ways it plays out when the race gets called early:

The first is the side that’s winning wants to run up the score so they still go vote, while the losing side figures there’s no point.

The second is the winning side figures it’s in the bag and don’t bother, while the losing side wants to stop the bleeding as much as possible.

Option one is how the Dems end up with a majority in the Senate (and possibly House). Option two is how the Republicans hold Congress. I’m not sure which way it plays out (there’s also the possibility that turnout gets depressed for both sides or goes up for both sides, but that is effectively the equilibrium).

re: #314 Charles Johnson

In all honestly, Donald Trump actually thinks he’s pivoting. His version of a pivot is to deny all of the crazy/evil shit he said and did in the primaries, knowing that his rubes saw it and remember that it happened and loved it and are accepting this lie to the liberals, and that liberals will trust him bigly that he never actually did or said those things.

It’s honestly not the dumbest strategy he could come up with, although it might be the most cynical.

If you ever watched the show Intervention, they typically followed a pattern… They’d follow the addict around, they’d talk to the family, they’d stage the intervention, the addict would tell them all to fuck off they aren’t going to rehab, the addict would hit rock bottom and then agree to rehab. We’re basically at the “fuck you, I’m not going to rehab” part of the show.

I want to see ALL THE NUMBERS. NOW.

Before I chew my arm off out of sheer nerves.

It’s too early for the numbers to be meaningful, especially national polling.

re: #211 MsJ

My greatest fear. Until they stand up to Fox and Rush, et al, we can never have a country like we once had. You cannot block everything year after year after year, demonize your opponents, all that, and expect politics as usual to continue.

Damn, we had a good run. If they don’t fix this shit poste haste, I don’t see sustaining a country. You can’t have it where half the country is absolutely nuts, believes every CT out there, hates the other half and sustain that. You just can’t.

I think it’s about time for a prominent Democrat to revisit Lincoln’s House Divided speech.

A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure, permanently, half rational and half irrational. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved — I do not expect the house to fall — but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing or all the other. Either the opponents of irrational bigotry will arrest the further spread of it, and place it where the public mind shall rest in the belief that it is in the course of ultimate extinction; or its advocates will push it forward, till it shall become customary in all the States.
