The whole right wing universe is going nuts again about an absurdly dishonest story first published by the Wall Street Journal, claiming that the Obama administration made a SEKRIT $400 MILLION RANSOM PAYMENT to Iran.

Just two tiny things wrong with this claim:

1. It wasn't secret.
2. It wasn't a ransom payment.

It’s true that a $400 million payment was made to Iran, back in January. This money had been held in escrow since 1979; it was originally a payment to the United States by the Shah of Iran for military equipment, but the equipment was never delivered because the Iranian revolution happened. The Iranian government has been trying various legal means to get the money returned ever since, and it was included as part of the new deals made with Iran to prevent them from getting nuclear weapons.

And it was so top secret it was announced to the world by President Obama in a press conference and reported in the New York Times on January 17, 2016.

But this hasn’t stopped the Trump campaign from repeating over and over that Hillary Clinton was responsible for giving $400 million in ransom payments to Iran. For example:

No, Clinton did not “start talks” to give Iran this money. It’s been in litigation for 37 years.

And of course, here comes the Stupidest Man on the Internet, Jim Hoft, riding his Derp Stallion to the rescue and sucking up to his hero Donald Trump, hoping for another link that will send massive wingnut traffic to his crappy blog of awfulness.

On Tuesday the Wall Street Journal first reported on the $400 million ransom paid to Iran during the negotiations to free imprisoned Americans.

Nope. It wasn’t a ransom, and it wasn’t paid to free anyone.

On Wednesday Hillary Clinton lied about this latest discovery.

Well, the White House has talked about this and this is kind of old news. It was first reported about seven or eight months ago.”

Of course, that isn’t true.

Of course, it’s absolutely true.

This week was the first time anyone had heard about this secret payoff to the regime.

And by “anyone,” Hoft means himself and his delusional right wing audience, because the rest of the world learned about it in January, when this “secret payoff” was all over the news media.

I’ve seen a lot of fake right wing outrages, but this has to be one of the dumbest yet.

But Hoft wasn’t finished being stupid today! Seconds after publishing this article, LGF readers informed me that he was now posting a picture of the Cleveland Cavaliers Championship Parade and claiming it showed a “MASSIVE LINE” outside Donald Trump’s Maine townhall.
