Gateway Pundit Blogger Who Pulled Gun on Portland Protesters Charged With Multiple Felonies

Far right blogger indicted
US News • Views: 57,681

Gateway Pundit/Progressives Today blogger Michael Strickland

Michael Strickland, the far right blogger who’s written numerous posts for Jim Hoft’s incredibly stupid Gateway Pundit and Progressives Today blogs, has now been charged with 21 counts of unlawful use of weapons and menacing.

The indictment, returned Thursday, charges Strickland, 36, of Southeast Portland with 10 counts of unlawful use of a weapon, 10 counts of menacing and one count of disorderly conduct.

The weapons charges are Class C felonies, and the menacing charges are misdemeanors.

Each unlawful use of a weapon charge accuses Strickland of attempting to use, and possessing with intent to use a firearm against another. The menacing charge accuses Strickland of placing another person in fear of imminent serious physical injury.

Strickland is well-known in Oregon as a right wing agitator and wanna-be James O’Keefe, and has now been banned from college campuses where he used to record his dumb “sting” videos. He went to this demonstration with enough ammunition to kill a lot of people. The Oregonian’s Maxine Bernstein has some new details about the incident:

Portland Officer Branden L. Combs was in Chapman Square during the protest and heard people running by him yelling, “Gun! Gun!” and “He’s got a gun,” according to a probable cause affidavit.

One of the protesters told police that he had recognized Strickland from other demonstrations where he had tried to “incite or instigate others,” and attempted to tell Strickland. That’s when he saw Strickland reach under his shirt and pull out the weapon, according to a court affidavit.

Officer Combs was standing about 20 to 25 yards from Strickland when he saw him sweep the crowd with the firearm, Molina wrote in the affidavit.

Once Strickland was arrested, police found the loaded handgun with a round in the chamber of the gun, plus two magazines of ammunition in a belt pouch on his left side, two magazines in his front right pants pocket and one magazine in his left front pants pocket, Molina said. He also had a pocket knife in his right front pants pocket.

Just turned the TV on and Meet The Chuck Daily is on.

He starts the show by saying…Trump has had a tough week, but his message still resonates.

And then he has Big Barry Bennett on who is saying all Trump needs to do is stop the crazy and he can win.

Then he reads some stupid column from Peggy Noonan who says something about Hillary is running a campaign like Jimmy Carter and Trump has (again) a message that resonates like Ronald Reagan.

Overall message…Trump still has a chance it is only August, national polls are still too early, etc.

No more need be said…

I have no problem criticizing Reagan. He was the eruption of the atavist religious right machine into its dominance in the GOP.

Reagan was not so religious, but he was smart enough to know he could use the religious right to get elected.

Many of Reagan’s decisions were marginal at best. Some of the bad ones - like the Iran-Contra affair, are intentionally ignored by the wingnuts today because deep down they know if they actually considered it then Reagan is not the saint they claim he was.

Like most things surrounding St. Ron, the GOP idolizes their fantasy scenario of how ‘80 played out rather than the reality of it. In their fantasy, St. Ron used that magnificent debate performance to “come from behind” and win big. Everybody thought Carter was going to win, then overnight they broke for St. Ron in huge numbers and took him to a awe-inspiring victory.

The reality was that Reagan had taken a pretty convincing lead in the later summer, expanded it during the convention, and kept hold of it all the way to the election.

Agreed. I was old enough to pay attention then, and Carter’s re-election was basically doomed by the hostage crisis and especially the failure of the rescue attempt.

Right. The hostage crisis is what really doomed Carter. Obama got a higher percentage of the vote in 2008/12 then Reagan did in 1980.

Reagan’s most lasting legacy is the vast imbalance in the distribution of wealth in this country, which has matched, and exceeded, the levels seen during the Gilded Age. Reaganomics was the fraud of the century. It was a willful, carefully crafted strategy too, from the voodoo economic theories used to support it to the administration’s successful program to destroy organized labor.

I remember riding my bike uphill to work the day after Reagan was elected and swearing at all the rich people’s houses in the neighborhood (North Orange County, CA), ‘Look what you’ve done!’.

If Trump is elected, I’ll have a more difficult time finding a rich neighborhood in this town, plus I don’t ride a bike anymore. Not gonna happen anyhow.

Of course, at this point in 2008, we’d already been in a recession for 6 months. Lawrence Kudlow famously titled a post, “Dude, where’s my recession?” I guess he found out.

I’ll never forgive Reagan for what he did to the labor movement. The labor movement made lives better for so many Anericans including my own family and Reagan a former union president no less shat on them so his wealthy benefactors could benefit. The wealth gap as you say started its massive growth in those years too. Plus his rhetoric of setting the middle class against the less well off was awful. And we haven’t even touched his FP in Latin and South America which we’re still repairing.

The reason the wingnuts love to compare elections to 1980 now is because of that fantasy about the “come from behind win” that they’ve fostered since. It’s their little scrap of hope they hold on to every time their candidate is dragging ass in the polls, this idea that one single event will totally change the race and allow their guy to “come from behind” to win big.

It didn’t happen in 2008.

It didn’t happen in 2012.

It won’t happen in 2016.

Here I often lament the ability of our society to understand complex issues such as that which arise out of modern science.

And my laments often have to do with the media and poor writing.

Well, for awhile now, in regards to climate change, there has been much hand wringing that the masses don’t understand it, that not enough is being done in mitigation (which I think is obvious and probably not at all dependent upon the former.)

So now we have this:

Climate summaries ‘for grownups,’ but not too difficult for policymakers

Offering a rare insider analysis of the climate assessment process, Carnegie’s Katharine Mach and colleagues at the Department of Global Ecology examined the writing and editing procedures by which the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change creates summaries of their findings for policymakers. Despite recent critiques that these summaries are too difficult for non-experts, Mach and colleagues found them comparable to reference texts in terms of reading comprehension level. Their results are published by Science Advances.

“Using multiple tools for measuring reading ease, we found that IPCC reports are designed for grownups, but they are not harder to read than other science documents, including those written for the public by professional writers,” said co-author Chris Field, who served as the co-chair of the second IPCC Working Group.

Nevertheless, Mach and colleagues also suggest ways that the summary reports could be improved by using less jargon and more cohesive language to link the ideas they contain. The summaries could also be enhanced by graphics, videos, animations, and online multimedia, in addition to extensive media availability by panel leadership.

[…]

Perhaps it’s just my middle-20th-century-American-English bias, but I find the use of the word “grownup” instead of “adult” itself interesting.

Anyway, compare the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs.

What the panel is saying is that there should be more pictures.

Democratic VP candidate Kaine visits city

Hillary Clinton’s running mate Tim Kaine says while the Democratic presidential nominee is focused on improving the economy, her opponent is too busy “shadow boxing” with everyone from the family of a war hero to his fellow Republicans.

“While we’ve been talking about jobs, Donald Trump has been going after a family of a war hero. Donald Trump has been going after fellow Republicans, and talking about why he won’t endorse them in the primaries,” Kaine said to cheers Friday at a campaign rally at Milwaukee’s Lakefront Brewery. “We’re talking about jobs. Donald Trump is basically shadow boxing with every enemy he can think of.”

Kaine’s comments during his first campaign stop in Wisconsin were a clear reference to Trump’s battle with the Muslim family of a fallen U.S. soldier, and his hesitancy to endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan of Janesville. Kaine’s appearance came before a Trump rally Friday night in Green Bay.

When the most you can say is that the Fed might raise rates down the line, you know the economy’s doing well. It’s not overheating, which would require raising rates, and the growth is such that inflation is low. Wages are also increasing, so there’s more money being spent, so that too will help companies across a wide range of sectors.

And given that energy prices are still low (and glut conditions exist) the energy sector is getting slammed, but other sectors are benefiting, like transportation, delivery, and personal services (since you don’t have to pay as much for gas, you can spend on other stuff).

I noticed this headline, and subheadline, on Wikipedia:

A Pakistani Mi-17 transport helicopter belonging to the Punjab government on route to Russia for repair, crashed on Thursday night in Logar Province, Afghanistan. The six people on board have been taken hostage by the Taliban. (The Express Tribune) (Pakistan Today)

Army Chief General Raheel Sharif had called the U.S. Military Commander in Afghanistan, General John Nicolson, and asked him to help recover the crew. The Afghan government and Afghan Army have also been contacted for recovery of helicopter and crew.(Dunya News)

This should be good. You see, the Taliban was heavily supported by Pakistan, as a means to make sure they had a friendly nation on their borders, and also to keep them weak so Afghanistan couldn’t really push the Durand Line issue. In addition, the Taliban would have loot copper and many other things, and sent them to Pakistan for cash.

So, Afghanistan is miffed at Pakistan, very reasonably. I do know Afghanistan will get the people and the helicopter back. But I wonder if Afghanistan is going to make Pakistan humble in private or in public.
