On September 23rd, GRAMMY-nominated blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa will deliver Live at the Greek Theatre, a 22-track Double CD, Double DVD, Blu-ray, and 4-LP Deluxe Edition tribute to three of the greatest bluesmen to ever live – Albert King, B.B. King, and Freddie King. Live at the Greek Theatre showcases “The Three Kings” tour of 2015; a 14-date US amphitheater tour that culminated at the famed Los Angeles venue The Greek. Bonamassa celebrates the trio of blues icons with over two hours of some the greatest blues songs ever written. The release includes a collector’s edition booklet, and several bonus features containing behind-the-scenes footage and more. Public TV and MTV Live, formerly Palladia, will broadcast the epic Blues tribute performances during their August and September schedules.

Live at the Greek Theatre continues Bonamassa’s tradition of honoring incredible concert venues like the Royal Albert Hall, the Vienna Opera House, Radio City Music Hall, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and the Beacon Theater. As with all Bonamassa DVD shoots, the performance at the Greek offered a unique presentation of this historical music.

I’m watching an Anthony Bordain: Parts Unknown episode on Libya from 2013 and it’s really interesting. He was just talking to a revolutionary about how they would use Google Earth to send NATO coordinates for pro-Qaddafi targets to bomb.

That has to be written by Russian trolls.

Awakening things not seen in centuries? What, hunting buffalo with a bow and arrow? Spaniards searching for gold? Find me an American who describes anything in this country in terms of plural “centuries”… Because we’ve been around for like, two of them.

That and the grammar… I smell steppe grass.

Populistic nationalism hasn’t been dormant for centuries. It’s been dormant in the west since the 40s, when it flourished in Germany and Italy. Wonder why that is….

I read an article on MSNBC’s site that was written by Steve Benen a few days ago. Benen noted that members of the so-called Freedom Caucus are blaming Ryan for Huelskamp losing the primary in his district in Kansas. Of course, Huelskamp and the FC are saying Ryan did nothing to help Huelskamp keep his seat. Huelskamp refuses to admit that one of the main reasons for him getting elected in the first place was to serve his constituents in his district. He seems to think he was sent to oppose gay marriage, fight for Christian principles, and oppose abortion. The fact is he pissed off many farmers in his district when he decided to play political games with the agriculture bill. He knew farmers in his district were counting on the assistance, but he ignored their needs. Benen mentioned that Ryan will probably not be able to get much done, even if he remains Speaker in 2017, because the FC members will make his life hell and governing almost impossible. I’d like to be a fly on the wall when the House members come back from summer break and the GOPers hold their first meeting. I imagine Ryan will hear a whole lot from FC members about Huelskamp losing his primary and none of it will be good. There’s gonna be a whole lotta whining and gnashing of teeth, and the blame game will be in high gear.

So, Trump’s adviser dedicated a book to an antisemite, Holocaust denier.

Thorn wrote a trilogy on the Clintons, including a book about all the people the Clintons have allegedly murdered. Roger Stone, unofficial advisor to the Trump campaign and avid Clinton conspiracist, dedicated a book to Thorn.

Stone And Morrow Are Disreputable. Roger Stone is “America’s most notorious political hatchet man” who formed an anti-Hillary Clinton group called “C.U.N.T.” Robert Morrow has wished death on Hillary Clinton and been visited by the Secret Service, posted bizarre sexual writings about the Clinton family, and called Chelsea Clinton a “slut” who might “have sex one day” with Bill Clinton. [Media Matters, 10/14/15]

Trump And Hannity Endorsed Stone’s Book. Donald Trump and Sean Hannity have endorsed The Clintons’ War on Women. Trump tweeted on October 14:

Interestingly Morrow now accuses Trump of child rape.

I don’t pay much attention to the accusations themselves, there has already been that story about one of Epstein’s victims accusing Dersh and whatnot, does not seem to have ended in anything. Mere accusations are not enough anyway(see Juanita Broadrick), esp. in cases like this, conveniently taking place during the campaign. Could be all about settlement money. Let the Morrows of the world run with it.

Besides that would also put the focus back on Bill’s adventures on Epstein’s merry island.

Huelskamp and most of the teabaggers don’t really put any effort in constituent support because each of them think they’re destined for the presidency. Who has time for stuff like keeping your constituents happy when you’re busy writing up your enemies list?

Also, the fact that Paul Ryan is probably going to lose his leadership job to a teabagger is another damn good reason to make sure you vote for Democrats downticket.

For the first time in their history, the Harvard Republican Club has declined to endorse the GOP nominee - Donald Trump - and explained their reasons for doing so in a scathing letter.

Dear Members and Alumni,

In every presidential election since 1888, the members and Executive Board of the Harvard Republican Club have gathered to discuss, debate, and eventually endorse the standard-bearer of our party. But for the first time in 128 years, we, the oldest College Republicans chapter in the nation, will not be endorsing the Republican nominee.

Donald Trump holds views that are antithetical to our values not only as Republicans, but as Americans. The rhetoric he espouses -from racist slander to misogynistic taunts- is not consistent with our conservative principles, and his repeated mocking of the disabled and belittling of the sacrifices made by prisoners of war, Gold Star families, and Purple Heart recipients is not only bad politics, but absurdly cruel.

If enacted, Donald Trump’s platform would endanger our security both at home and abroad. Domestically, his protectionist trade policies and draconian immigration restrictions would enlarge our federal deficit, raise prices for consumers, and throw our economy back into recession. Trump’s global outlook, steeped in isolationism, is considerably out-of-step with the traditional Republican stance as well. The flippancy with which he is willing to abdicate the United States’ responsibility to lead is alarming. Calling for the US’ withdrawal from NATO and actively endorsing nuclear proliferation, Donald Trump’s foreign policy would wreak havoc on the established world order which has held aggressive foreign powers in check since World War II.

Perhaps most importantly, however, Donald Trump simply does not possess the temperament and character necessary to lead the United States through an increasingly perilous world. The last week should have made obvious to all what has been obvious to most for more than a year. In response to any slight -perceived or real- Donald Trump lashes out viciously and irresponsibly. In Trump’s eyes, disagreement with his actions or his policies warrants incessant name calling and derision: stupid, lying, fat, ugly, weak, failing, idiot -and that’s just his “fellow” Republicans.

He isn’t eschewing political correctness. He is eschewing basic human decency.

It’ll take them awhile to fully come to terms with the monster they’ve created, but ultimately they will. The monster (the base) will either slink off to found a new party - or take over an existing small party (I’m thinking the Constitution Party) or just gradually die off.

As I mentioned to a friend, I don’t agree with every one of their positions, but I certainly resonate with one of the lines in the summary writeup: “The public can breathe a sigh of relief now that a pair of adults have entered the room.” :)

Making any kind of equivocation between Trump and Clinton is full stop BS. Not to mention the ‘adults’ he’s referring to are Johnson and Weld.

Morning!

Did all the dust settle from that rambling nonsensical BS Trump called a rally speech last night?

I wonder, does he use a signer for the deaf? I don’t know sign language, but I wonder if you can actually sign a Trump rally speech?

Regarding the Harvard Republican Club lack of endorsement. I know a guy online that just revels when any form of Republican establishment politician, organization or media personality refuses to endorse The Donald. To him it is sure sign Trump is on the right path because he wants all form of previous politics torn down and burned. He is conservative so of course he has no room for Democrats either. Burn it all down!!!

Edit: Oops. Sign not sign…hey, it’s early.

dailycaviar.com

Scott Rigell (R-VA) has bailed on trump. going for johnson

i’ll say it again

all these principled people - congressmen, harvard republican club, etc who publicly declare they wont vote for trump (endanger our security, recession, no temperament) and havent decided on “staying home” or voting third party are unprincipled weasels.

if in your mind trump must not be elected so your principled stance is you cant vote for him then on principle, voting wise, you do all you can to stop him. or you’re an opportunistic weasel.

voting third party or staying home allows you to say “i didnt vote for him”. its not doing all you can.

voting third party or staying home is taking 1/2 vote from trump.
that’s probably obvious to anyone with 1/2 a brain

voting for clinton is taking a whole vote from trump
(ok - so thats probably obvious to anyone with a whole brain)

its math

are you already convinced clinton is going to win and so your vote doesnt really matter? sorry - that’s a worse weasel way out absolutely no principle at all. you’re not sacrificing or demonstrating anything. youre not taking a risk or doing anything difficult.

no one knows how you voted and likely wont ask you directly so you wont have to lie. your princples remain intact.

taking a weasely public political stand i guess is expected or understandable.

if hes that dangerous or unpalatable that you cant support your party, then not doing all you can in private is unprincipled weaseling

(good morning)

Reading the Nikolaus Wachsmann book ‘KL’ which is a study of the development of the Nazi concentration camp system. In high school we looked at the early camp phase, of which Dachau became the standard. But holy shit was it a shallow study. Wachmann lays out the disorder that prevailed before Himmler got his mitts on the system and was able to breathe life into it in the mid-30s. There really seemed to be a movement amongst the conservative judiciary to wind back the excesses in the camps, hoping some semblance of order would render the camp system unnecessary as the Third Reich steadied itself after its rise to power.
Some truly horrific stuff.

Emptor scriptor Remorse  Aug 7, 2016 • 6:53:03am

The anatomy of a nervous breakdown, former Ford model Krit McClean details his journey thru a manic episode which culminated into a nude run through Times Square.

It was a bright morning on June 30 when I stepped off the F train near Times Square. I had blisters all over my feet from walking barefoot and was overwhelmed with fear.

As I headed to my apartment in Hell’s Kitchen, I was in the throes of paranoia. I thought evil people were out to get me.

As I stared at the towering ads of Times Square, they started to send me subliminal messages.

“Express Yourself,” read the billboard for Express jeans.

I obeyed. I immediately took off my clothes. Being naked, I thought, was the most truthful way of expressing myself. It made me feel safe.

Then, I saw another “sign” — the red glow of the TKTS stairs looked like a red carpet. It beckoned me to the top. After reaching the highest step, I noticed litter on the other side of the banister, so I climbed over.

I started collecting old gum, cigarette butts and coins — and ate it all. It was my way of disposing of the garbage.

I noticed figures in blue uniforms coming toward me. They looked evil, and I was convinced they were out to get me, too.

Trying to fend them off, I went back to expressing myself — this time with song and dance.

I repeated, “Yeezy, Yeezy, Yeezy just jumped over Jumpman,” and, “They smile in my face is what I don’t like,” hoping Kanye West’s lyrics would protect me. I saw him as a divine entity and his words my safeguard.

I also became transfixed with dichotomies, like Democrats vs. Republicans, love vs. hate, female vs male. I screamed “Donald Trump!”

I’m glad some people are pointing out some of the issues of the poorer peoples of Brazil.

All that TV coverage is centered on those nice beaches and high rises near them. But take a look up the sides of some of those hills off in the back. People stacked on top of each other in simple shacks with tin roofs, if they can afford even that.

Brazil has some big huge gaps between those with and those without.

Here’s Hillary’s answer to a question about her emails, where she mentions “short circuit”. She doesn’t say SHE short circuited. But, we can’t expect our media and Trump to actually read what she said.

CLINTON: Well Kristin, I appreciate your asking that because I was pointing out in both of those instances that the Director Comey had said that my answers in my FBI interview were truthful. That’s really the bottom line here. And I have said on — during the interview and in many other occasions over the past months, that what I told the FBI — which he said was truthful — is consistent with what I have said publicly.
So I may have short circuited it and for that I — you know, will try to clarify because I think — you know, Chris Wallace and I we’re probably talking past each other be — because of course he could only talk to what I had told the FBI and I appreciated that.

This morning on Willie Geist’s Sunday Today show he had Kellyanne Conway on and she was doing her best to put a shine on the Orange.

She was glowing about a Reuters online poll that shows Trump is ahead by a point or two. She went on to say she thought online polls are a better indicator than traditional polls because they offer a security similar to the voting booth.

I think I saw her nose actually growing as she shoveled that shit said it.

I suppose she could be right if people that aren’t registered to vote, too young to vote and can vote many times by going to different polling places voted for Trump.

Buddy of mine is flying home from JFK - told a great story on FB.

He’s in the magazine/book shop getting a bottle of water and some dudebro in cargo shorts tells some random lady she has a nice ass. She says, “Excuse me?” and he says, “You’re hot.” and she says, “Hot?” and he says, “Look, I’m just trying to be nice.” and she says, “Nice?” and walks out of the shop. My friend says, “Dude, you shouldn’t say things like that. You never know what will happen.” Guy tells him to mind his own business. A minute later the woman comes back with three TSA security agents and they tackle the guy, hand-cuff him, and frog march him down the terminal for a talk.

Like he said, you never know what will happen. Fucking cargo shorts.

Many a young dudebro and many an old fooker. I still have progressive friends where there is some holdout of ‘if I want to be able to compliment a woman on her appearance I should be able too.’

As if society is oppressing his right to free speech, or there is some right of men to say hello to a pretty lady and compliment her.

There’s a difference between complimenting a woman (“you look great in that dress”) and being a creep (“nice ass, sweetheart”)

Shortly before Sid Miller was sworn into office, the newly elected Texas agriculture chief was asked at a conservative policy forum what keeps him up at night.

“Bad Mexican food,” he said.

Then, after allowing a few moments for laughter:

“Actually, I sleep pretty well, but I do have some long-range concerns as I hold those two grandbabies on my lap, and I happen to wonder: When they have grandbabies to hold in their lap, will we be a socialist country? Will we be a Muslim country?”

Man, that Wilson op-ed is fucking brutal.

The guy’s definitely left his own stains on the GOP, but he sees Trump for the fraud and the danger that he is, so I’ll give him credit for that.

Also, he’s been going so hard after Trump, he’s got no time to go after Clinton. Bonus.

The whole thing is awesome, but OMG I can’t resist quoting a section:

This wasn’t rocket science; it’s basic, professional campaigning. While Donald Trump was retweeting “White Genocide 1488 Ovenmaster,” Clinton’s campaign was building data files and contacting swing voters. While Trump was tweeting about “Crooked Hillary,” she was having precisely targeted television ads aimed at swing voters in the suburbs of key cities in battleground states appearing at just the right moments. While Trump was depending on red hats and WWE rallies, her people have been going door-to-door by the thousands, knocking, talking, winning hearts and winning votes.

I know Trump fans think of professionalized campaigning like this: “We don’t need you fancy smart people with experience and your campaign discipline and your writers and polls and your computers and your TV ads. All we need are hats and Trump’s Twitter account. Hold muh beer while I build a wall and make Mexico pay for it.”

They’re wrong — but only a resounding defeat will get it through their thick skulls.

So, here’s an idiot at the LA Times: If Hillary Clinton wins, can she claim a ‘mandate’?:

Near the beginning, it has this:

All Clinton had to do was follow one of the oldest rules of politics: If your opponent is hurting himself, get out of the way. Or, even better, draw attention to his flaws.

As she talked about her jobs program on the campaign trail — a long, wonky list, from infrastructure spending to solar energy — Clinton made sure to mention Trump’s name as often as possible.

Followed by paragraphs of events where she talks about her platform and then contrasts with Trump. Then, this paragraph:

But it comes with a potential cost. By focusing on the other guy’s flaws, Clinton may fail to build a strong mandate for her agenda, including higher taxes for upper-income earners, a $275 billion infrastructure program and comprehensive immigration reform.

Aaaarrrrggghhh. You said she should point out his flaws, and you explicitly state that she describes her agenda, and yet you fault her for doing what you said.

The media bear a lot of responsibility for the creation of Trump, and treating all Republican presidential candidates as if they’re a danger to American society is just one way they’ve done it. It’s unlikely that the media are going to en-masse recognize their bias, but perhaps if the Trump campaign has taught the media anything, it’s to ratchet down the rhetoric so that words mean something again.

re: #106 Ziggy_TARDIS

I am amazed the Russia, a supposed World Power, is getting defeated in open battle by Al-Qaeda. We were able to ravage Al-Qaeda in similar conditions. The problem we had were the suicide attacks and similar guerrilla tactics.

Maybe it’s because Russian men are such raging alcoholics that it’s hindering Russia’s ability to maintain a standing army:

Alcoholism Is Killing Off Russian Men

Russia’s alcohol problem is nothing new. But a report from the World Health Organization is depicting it in the starkest terms yet: it’s causing a demographic timebomb. Richard Weitz at World Politics Review highlights the most disturbing figures from the report:

- Russians 16 and older drink the equivalent of roughly four gallons of pure alcohol per capita each year, almost twice the amount of their American counterparts.
- Russia currently has 2 million alcoholics.
- The number of Russian children aged 10-14 who drink alcohol exceeds 10 million.
- Roughly 500,000 Russians die annually from alcoholic-related accidents, crimes, and illnesses.
- Alcohol poisoning kills more than 23,000 Russians each year.
According to Weitz, 20 percent of Russian male deaths are attributed to alcoholism. A 15-year-old boy has a 40 percent chance of dying before the age of 60. Despite recent economic gains, the Russian population continues to shrink. Russian leadership, including Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and President Dmitry Medvedev, now considers alcoholism a national security threat and have set a goal to halve the country’s alcohol consumption by 2020.

Still, that won’t be easy, notes Weitz. It was only last month that the Russian legislator redefined beer as an alcoholic drink. Prior to that, its food item status allowed it to be sold widely in stores and kiosks—a factor that increased beer consumption 51-fold between 1995 and 2007. In a closing note, Weitz says the problem has become so pervasive, it even threatens Russia’s ability to maintain a standing army:
The Russian armed forces face a massive personnel problem, and the country’s demographic trends will reduce the availability of potential male recruits even further in coming years. By 2016, the number of men available for conscription will be half that of 1996, a problem exacerbated by the fact that many potential recruits are unfit for service due to alcohol-related complications.

Obama’s less far left than they are far right. Obama may in fact be more closer to a centrist than a liberal. He’s definitely no leftist.

Obama’s in that range we talked about the other day: He’s not in the pure range of the far left, but in that range where getting stuff done balances out how strong you’re going to stay with your principles. Obamacare was not a centrist idea (the status quo was to do nothing), but compromises were made to get it passed.

Obama’s damn near an Eisenhower Republican in all but name. The only reason he gets called a leftist or far left is because the GOP have lost their goddamn minds since 2008.

I think he’s a liberal pragmatist personally. He probably with a more liberal Congress govern more to the left but he also wants to get things done in a way to impact long term change hence why he had DADT repealed by Congress rather than an EO. He will use the EO i,e, immigration when he feels Congress isn’t doing jackshit but most of the time, I think he’d rather work with Congress to get what he wants passed even if Congress is more conservative than him. In short, he’s creating change in the smart way not the way that will result in overturnings by circuit courts and the USSC down the road.

People who use socialist as a slur towards him typically don’t know what an actual socialist is. Sergey has made the argument that for all his claims that Bernie is more capitalist than socialist.

If our side wants Secretary Clinton to win big, doesn’t every vote count? Not sure about this naive argument that because one lives in a blue state, his/her vote doesn’t count or matter. I’m hoping that Democratic voters in blue states such as mine (Maryland) aren’t going to throw away their votes on Stein or Johnson or not vote because they think their votes don’t matter. The bigger the vote for Clinton, the better.

I don’t think he disagrees with you there. The point is even if Clinton wins 49 states let’s say (not gonna happen) but let’s say it did, the GOP still wouldn’t acknowledge she had a mandate. In the end, winning by one state or several is the end goal. I think we all hope Clinton wins by several because that would mean something and would mean Congressional coattails too.

In Sparta,GA we just had pretty much all the African American folks served papers to appear in front of the “democrat elected sheriff” to prove who they were because some of them were either inactive or hadn’t voted before and they were just checking. Yeah, all the black folks in town, just checking. Out of concern for fraud. Sure. The excuse was it just kinda worked out that way because of the makeup of the town. Ok then, nothing to see here, move along people. Yeah, and our Secretary of State is looking into it. I’m sure he’s very CONCERNED…..

“Voter fraud” = brown and black people voting.

It’s not an accident that when Republicans start nattering on about voter fraud and Voter ID that DMV offices in minority areas suddenly start closing.

Pretty funny how this stuff always happens to groups that are primarily Democrats inn’t it? I seem to recall a voter ID law that would have forbade students from using their college IDs to identify themselves but would allow for gun club cards even though the former is always a photo ID and a good amount of the time technically a government issued ID as many universities are public.

When someone tries to bring up the meme that if voting made a difference, they would make it illegal (which I see occasionally), point out that’s exactly what some people try to do to minorities.

HappyWarrior  Aug 7, 2016 • 1:13:20pm

Honestly what the hell does it say about their party and ideology that they want to make voting harder not easier for people. Voter fraud has time and time again been demonstrated to be a load of bs or when it’s committed, it’s not by the people who the GOP thinks is doing it.

It’s the same shit they pull with “welfare fraud” and “food stamp abuse”. And every time they mandate drug testing for poor people getting aid of some sort, they end up spending millions to weed out one percent fraud. Because these fucking racist, classist idiots have no idea the often humiliating hoops you have to go through to get aid.

Maybe it’s because Russian men are such raging alcoholics that it’s hindering Russia’s ability to maintain a standing army:

Alcoholism Is Killing Off Russian Men

That article is 5 years old and trends in Russia have improved since then. But its also worth noting that in Iraq Al Qaeda had nothing heavier than heavy machineguns and 120mm mortars (and relatively few of the latter). In Syria Al Qaeda and its allies have got far more firepower:
