It is not “freedom of the press” when newspapers and others are allowed to say and write whatever they want even if it is completely false!

Actually, no, that’s pretty much the exact definition of freedom of the press.

Hi friends. I’m a longtime lurker and enjoy the sanity here. I’m a gay Mexican-American who is goddamn pissed about what’s going on in my country! My user name comes from that dusgusting video posted by the NYTimes a couple of weeks ago of feral Trump supporters screaming “beaner” and other nasty epithets. I’m like “WTF is wrong with being a beaner, assholes?” Fuck them. And reconquista, bitches! Make American Brown Again! Anyway, wanted say howdy to all of you smart, sane (and likely very attractive) people here at LGF!

As to the topic at hand: these have got to be actors, right? Sadly, it looks like a good chunk of my Facebook feed!!

Not sure if they’re referencing the one that shows Hillary getting cash from Arab countries.

It was tweeted by David Duke & had a Star of David on the dollar bill. The Trump people altered it for the card.

Nothing gets under that man’s skin like the press. His public (false) image is how he’s conned everyone all these years…shit, he determines his net financial worth by the “Trump Brand.” All of the lies over the years are falling down around him. He’s going to be left with nothing after this election because his BRAND is dead.

And he blames the press for exposing the truth, instead of, oh, the truth.

What a piece of flaming offal this man is.

Nothing gets under that man’s skin like the press. His public (false) image is how he’s conned everyone all these years…

Which leads to the question, what is his behaviour going to be like if he slide a few more points in the polls?

If he’s down around 5-10 points, he can claim that Hillary is going to rig the election to steal it and it sounds not totally impossible.

But when he’s down more than 10 points Hillary doesn’t need to rig anything to win….so the fact that Trump is going to be the loser-iest loser for forty years is going to be something unbearable for him to bear.

I just don’t see any way he will continue to run his campaign (in as much as he is running a campaign now) if the polls shift just a little more and Clinton is running a 10% lead for a week or two.

You forgot the part where he brings in new voters like all those long forgotten white supremacists, the alienating of every ethnic group and insulting pretty much all women. Also the daily crazy stuff that comes out of his crazy ass mouth hole.

If that isn’t a recipe for success then what is? The scary part is he still has more than just slim chance at winning. I love to joke about what a nightmare he is. Honestly if people don’t Get Out and Vote that horror show of a nut job could still be the next POTUS.

Blind Frog Belly White  Aug 14, 2016 • 12:48:39pm

O whatever the T is - last week, I spent 2 1/2 stress-filled days being responsible for my 98 year old father. Don’t get me wrong, he’s in great shape for an age where most everyone else has been dead for 20 years. I mean, the man has all his own teeth, and still eats corn on the cob with them whenever he can get it. Still, he takes some care.

My sister, who has been doing this for a decade or so now, prepped us for it - the schedule, not to let him sleep too much, not to tire him out, let/make him help out with things he can do. His short term memory is shot. His memory used to be one of Dad’s most prized attributes, and a few years ago when he knew it was going, he was depressed by that knowledge.

Now? Well, now he pretty much lives in the moment, so the trick is keeping him engaged, trying to reinforce memories of any recent events. Between having to treat my brilliant Dad like a slow child, and worrying about whether he’s happy, and whether he’s going to remember me when he wakes up, or even if he’s GOING TO wake up, it was exhausting.

Now, Mrs. FBW is visiting HER Dad in Florida. He’s getting to a similar point.

We can extend life for decades, keep people alive who in the past would have died long since. But keeping the mind alive and healthy - that’s so far eluding us.

I’ve got a story I’ll post here instead of on Facebook because I don’t want people who know me to know what a moron I am:

I’m glad last week is over. I could say I had a senior moment but I actually had a senior year. Usually when I show my driver’s license for ID I just leave it in my wallet window, but I was noticing someone else’s ID looked different than mine so I took a look at it and discovered to my horror that it had expired in late June.

Of 2015. I’ve been driving with an expired licence for over a year.

I called up the DMV office that I knew had late hours and told them my situation (without telling them my name), and they told me I’d have to go to the main office and retake the written test and I might have to pay some penalties for not renewing for so long. I was having panic attacks about getting charged for driving w/o a license. I also needed to drive 200 miles for a work meeting in two days. I was dying.

Next morning, I took the bus downtown and got in line at the DMV office before it opened. I showed them my license and was expecting to get read the riot act, but the clerk when ‘Oh my’ and pointed me towards the line to take my test. In about 10 minutes, I was sitting behind the test screen. I had studied the manual for about an hour the night before so I managed to pass (89%). I got in line again and they asked if I wanted to retest for the motorcycle endorsement. Yep. I got 91% on that and got back in line to see what the penalty for being 13.5 months overdue on the renewal. I still didn’t know if they’d require me to take a behind-the-wheel test, and I was still in full panic mode. The woman behind the counter was really super nice and when she wrote up my fee, there was no extra charge. It cost me less than $40 for car and motorcycle fees. I got my temp license and was able to drive that evening to go vote, and was able to make my work meeting.

I spent this whole week feeling like the luckiest stupid guy ever.

His essay was originally on the site Counterpunch (which is problematic in its own way, to be sure), and was not written for that volume. He claims that he just lets anyone reprint his essays since he considers them to belong to the public and that, in this particular case, he had no idea about the editor’s views, what the title of the book would be, or who the other contributors would be. And, from what I understand, the essay itself does not claim that the Paris attacks were “false flags” but only that our focus on the victims there threatens to obscure all the many more Arab victims of white supremacy / colonialism etc both in France itself and in the Middle East.

It seems to me that his main sin here in being willing to be a part of this volume is a negligent naivety common to the self-righteous.

Dad goes through times when the only thing he knows is who he is. No idea of where, even though he’s in the house he’s lived in for 54 years. Then he’ll take a nap and when he wakes, he knows where he is, who I am, etc. Still sometimes in those moments of lucidity, he’ll have forgotten things, like Mom’s passing 5 years before. It REALLY HURT to have to tell him about it.

We get a renewal notice for our tabs in MN. You can send the notice back with a check and you get your tabs about 2 weeks later. The cops will pull you over right away if your tabs are expired (I found out once after I’d moved and didn’t get the notice). Makes perfect sense to me, united as they are by isolationism, a refusal to acknowledge the complexities of global realpolitik and a shared distain for the input of minority voters.

We get a renewal notice for our tabs in MN. You can send the notice back with a check and you get your tabs about 2 weeks later. The cops will pull you over right away if your tabs are expired (I found out once after I’d moved and didn’t get the notice). The cut-off for date for retesting is after one year of expiration in MN.

Mine expired in February, so one of my chores this summer was to renew it. KY gives you a year’s grace to renew an expired license. I just had to answer a few basic questions, pose for a photo and pay $20.

Almost two easy, for something that replaces a national ID card in many ways.

Hezbollah leader: Obama did, indeed, found ISIS

The Leader of Hezbollah cited Donald Trump’s words that ‘Obama founded ISIS,’ and agreed.

In truth, Nasrallah has been saying this for quite a while and is only citing Trump’s word as confirmation. Worth pointing out that Hezbollah is an ally of the Russians in Syria.

Had lunch last Friday with a bunch of Republican co-workers. During the lunch, one person mentioned the election, asking about the Libertarian candidates. Naturally, they all bought into the “Hillary is evil” message promoted by Faux News. But what surprised me was the universal opinion of the group that Trump was totally unacceptable, hence the questions about third party candidates.

I’m talking about a group who loves Fox and parrots their talking points. But they all agreed that Trump would be a disaster. They’d never vote for Hillary, but the fact that Trump was considered so unacceptable gave me hope.

Maybe they were secretly members of the librul media?

He’s got this obsession with mines and miners. He thinks “the miners” in Pennsylvania will win the election for him, even though there are only about 8000 of them. That won’t overcome his 10 point deficit.

Let’s go back 30 years, though, so we count ones who’ve lost their jobs. There are about half as many miners today as there were 30 years ago, so now you’re talking 16,000. There were about 6,000,000 votes cast in PA in 2012. Obama won by about 300,000.

Somehow, I doubt The Miners are gonna save him.

I had a person tell me that Hillary was unacceptable because she is “such a liar”. When I pointed out that fact checkers universally agreed that Trump lies far more, it was greeted with silence. Of course, the same person blamed Obama for the current national debt. When I pointed out that Congress has control of spending (and not the President), he smirked and basically called me an idiot, claiming that the Senate controls the budget (which while wrong, still means that Obama isn’t in control of spending, a fact he ignored).

I just smiled and told him to actually read the constitution. Oddly, he hasn’t spoken to me since. Ah well, no loss.

So, let’s take a tighter look at the tax brackets Trump’s set.

The 0-12% bracket makes no sense because it doesn’t identify where it jumps from zero to 12.

But that’s the least objectionable bit.
These are the current rates ror the single filer:

2015 Income Tax Brackets
Taxable Income Tax Rate
$9,226 to $37,450 $922.50 plus 15% of the amount over $9,225
$37,451 to $90,750 $5,156.25 plus 25% of the amount over $37,450
$90,751 to $189,300 $18,481.25 plus 28% of the amount over $90,750
$189,301 to $411,500 $46,075.25 plus 33% of the amount over $189,300
$411,501 to $413,200 $119,401.25 plus 35% of the amount over $411,500
$413,201 or more $119,996.25 plus 39.6% of the amount over $413,200

So, Trump gives everyone from $37k to $190k the 25% rate. Notice who gets screwed with that one? If you said the middle class since they’re not seeing any tax cuts because they’re the ones making $37k to $90k, you get a bonus point.

Then the folks who are making $90 to $190k get a drop from 28% to 25%. 3 points.

Meanwhile, the folks in the top tax bracket (that’d be the 39.6% bracket, see a 6.6 point cut.

Yeah, that’s exactly what you need to know. This is the same trickle down BS that we know and expect from the GOP.

Alzheimer’s Disease: Period Pain Drug Cures Symptoms In Mice, New Research Shows

Mefenamic acid is available as a generic drug and is sold under a variety of brand names.

For the study, 20 mice were genetically altered to exhibit symptoms of Alzheimer’s. Ten of these were treated with mefenamic acid by using a mini-pump under their skin for one month, while the other 10 mice were treated in the same way with a placebo.

Researchers found that the mice treated with mefenamic acid saw a complete reversal of memory loss, while the placebo group’s condition remained unchanged.

I often wonder why he is forced to relive the worst day of his life over and over instead of, say, his wedding day or the day his daughter was born.

This resident was also an accomplished musician, so we redirect him by asking about his past. One day as he was crying I asked him, “Weren’t you a musician?” He immediately stopped crying and said, “Yes I was! I met the late, great Patsy Cline!”

‘Not prepared for this’: Motorists stranded on I-12 describe miserable conditions

About 1,000 frustrated motorists remained stranded on Interstate 12 Sunday, many without food and water, after historic flooding made parts of the roadway impassable, state officials said.

Most of the marooned spent Saturday night stuck on dry stretches of the interstate, including a Lafayette woman headed to her father’s funeral in Slidell, which she missed.

And state officials did not expect to re-open the roadway entirely, or rescue the motorists, on Sunday either.

Those stranded said they have been plagued by a lack of water, food and information.

“It is hot and humid and there is no place for anybody to go,” said Julie Cobb, who with her husband Jason and sons Nathan, 8 and Charlie, 5 are headed for Destin Fla. from their home in Spring, Texas.

“People are not prepared for this situation,” she said in a telephone interview. “You just don’t realize what is going on.”

Cobb said helicopters and the Red Cross have tried to get supplies to the marooned, with mixed success.

She said food has been dropped from helicopters, including meals ready to eat, or MREs, but there was no organized distribution.

“Everybody just takes off with it,” Cobb said.

Sadly, it was only a matter of time before the emergence of a Stormfront-level hater whose drawings were of a higher quality than stick figures. Frankly, we’re lucky Garrison is so blatant; If he possessed a decent amount of subtlety he might actually have influence beyond the ‘Alt-Right’, but his inability to conceal his bigotry makes him so socially unacceptable that not even Fox News can have anything to do with him.

Care to wager how many of Garrison’s points in that cartoon are bible to many of the base the current GOP party is teetering on?

And how many GOP congress critters rely on those very points when they are out addressing those very people at their town halls and the like?

In other words…time to accept reality. Fox news doesn’t rely on Garrison, Garrison draws on Fox and the talk conservo-wingnut radio idiots.

Has Garrison done any yet about Hilary’s conniving con artist cackle?

Nothing else can explain why someone who is running for President has few GOTV mechanisms in place. It’s not as if he couldn’t find volunteers to man the offices.

Yep, a far right party founded to defend racial segregation is putting Donald Trump on its ticket this year. It turns out that the ideal hunting vehicle for oligarchs is made in Ukraine. So without further ado, I give a vehicle I can imagine Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump hunting from, the OM:

Vehicle details, via Google Translate (feel free to correct the translation if you wish, Sergey):

Hunting machine on the basis of BMP-1 and is used for hunting in difficult, mountainous and marshy ground in any weather and time of day. The main technical characteristics are similar to the BMP-1. Externally similar to the SEM.
Basic dimensions: length - 7150, width - 3150, height - 2900.
Mass, m: 14,0 ± 2%.
Crew .: -1 12. Of these, a driver; 1 older machines; 10 hunters.
On top of the stern and the bow (hunting cabin outside) is set to 2 lamps FG-126. There is a portable radio, intercom system P-124 3 phone, air conditioner and heater.

Note the rotatable spotlight on the hatch of what on normal BMP-1s is the vehicle commander’s position. It’s perfect for catching any type of deer in its beam, thus allowing the hunters a reduced chance of missing. It also has a sat phone, to allow immediate bragging to family and cronies, Truly ideal for a Trump family hunting expedition.

It shined a light on a Jim Crow city AKA Milwaukee.

And that asshole RWNJ Sheriff.

The FOP - those great guys, published all the records they have on the dead guy today.

Milwaukee is another racket of racism exposed by a police shooting. Sure, it might turn out to be justified. But before any investigation has been completed, you have the Mayor, the Sheriff etc. saying it WAS justified. No investigation has been completed obviously.

The DOJ could just use a dartboard with the US & pick which city to investigate. The results will be the same as Ferguson & Baltimore.

We have a problem.

Dunno of it actually started there, but I’m pretty damn sure that 4chan’s /pol/ boards and its copycats are what reappropriated it, considering how popular the meme images were before the election on those places.

Is Clarke one of the dimwit “constitutional” sheriffs? Basically SovCits in uniform.

I dunno if he’s one of those assholes, but he’s black, so the Fox News folks use him to prove that racism isn’t racist.

Yes.

rightwingwatch.org

Seeing as Donald Trump has given interviews to the likes of Michael Savage and Alex Jones, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Republican presidential nominee called into a radio program being guest-hosted by Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke for a 15-minute interview on Thursday afternoon.

Clarke was also invited to speak at last month’s Republican National Convention, an eyebrow-raising choice, since he has a long record of extremism, including support for radical anti-government groups. As we wrote at the time:

While Clarke has no patience for African Americans who have deadly run-ins with the police, he has repeatedly associated himself with anti-government militia groups who have staged armed standoffs with federal government agents or who threaten to defy federal law. Earlier this year, when a group of armed activists took over a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon, Clarke backed their cause, saying that the country had reached a “pitchforks and torches moment” that couldn’t be solved by an election.

If its clear that the deceased pulled a gun on a cop, then barring extraordinary circumstances his being shot was justified.

More from Right Wing Watch:

In 2013, after he aired his ads discouraging citizens from relying on 911, Clarke accepted the “Constitutional Sheriff of the Year” award from the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association, an anti-government group that promotes the idea that county sheriffs are the highest law enforcement officers in the country and thus have the power to defy federal laws that they believe are unconstitutional. In his acceptance speech , Clarke declared that “government” was the “common enemy” of the “patriots” in the room. In a radio interview that year, he said that “on an everyday basis, to me, federal government is a bigger threat” than terrorism.

Just this year, Clarke spoke at a fundraising event for the New York chapter of the Oath Keepers, an anti-government group aligned with the Constitutional Sheriffs that urges law enforcement officers and military personnel to defy laws they believe are unconstitutional and encourages its members to form militias ready to defy an out-of-control federal government. At that event, Clarke called Black Lives Matter a “hate group” and vowed to do “everything I can” to get Trump elected president.

OK, I’ve been putting off washing the car until the sun moved enough to put the driveway in the shade. It is now indisputably in the shade.
Then I get to make dinner. The good news is that that dinner includes a lovely piece of locally caught salmon. It will be sear-roasted and served with a beurre blanc, brown rice and a green salad. Too bad there’s not enough to share with everyone here…

BBL

Funny: just as I read this, I had to go turn my salmon on the grill: simple summer fair chez us: grilled salmon, fresh corn, and salad from Baba Louie’s in Gt. Barrington.
See y’all after dinner

re: #236 Dark_Falcon

This. Unlike other notable shootings of black men by police, this one in Milwaukee is pretty clearly justified. And the guy who was shot dead was wielding a stolen gun, no less.

It’s not “justified” until they release the body cam footage.

We’d all like very much to be able to believe the cops; but after Walter Scott, Sam Dubose, Tamir Rice, John Crawford… I really wanna see proof.

I can emphathize with ya-I’m back up with my mother who broke her wrist last week, and doing just the smallest things for her is impossible. Today I had to take her to ER due to the side effects of opiates (for some reason the orthopod up here didn’t prescribe Movantic when downstate during her hip replacement they did.)

I am very blessed to be a telecommuter, even though I work from home and my office is a 30-minute drive. Plus, having my feline overlord Ozzie up here makes her happy too…

That’s not always the case, but Garrison certainly uses George Soros in that fashion.

Not always, but close. About 90% of the time someone blames Soros for something out of the blue, they’re dog whistling.
