Hilarious Moment of the Day: Trump Lawyer Michael Cohen on CNN

And your question is?
Humor • Views: 50,394

YouTube

I’ve cued up this video clip to start at one of the funniest exchanges I’ve seen today, as Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen gets belligerent with CNN host Brianna Keilar. The whole thing is absurdly contentious, but this is the best part:

Keilar: So you say it’s not a shakeup, but you guys are down, and it makes sense that there would…

Cohen: Says who? Says who?

Keilar: Polls. Most of them. All of them?

Cohen: [long pause] Says who?

Keilar: Polls. I just told you. I answered your question.

Cohen: OK. Which polls?

Keilar: All of them.

Cohen: OK. And your question is?

I don’t know how she kept herself from just laughing in Cohen’s face. I certainly would have.

We are going to hear about how DT lost because the polls never gave him a chance, so people jut gave up on the thought of voting for him because the skewered liberal polls all predicted his demise, therefore assuring it would come to pass.

Or some garbled verbal plasma based on that notion.

At no point will they respond to the question of why they are doing such a poor job of convincing a majority of Americans that he is the better candidate.

The other thing this reminds me of? The think Karl Rove said about the “reality-based community” -

“We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out.”

It seems to me that each new colossal fuckup from the Trump campaign hardly has time to sink in, and be studied, ‘judiciously’, before they act again, plumbing new depths of fucking up.

I mean, look - it’s only Wednesday, and already Trump’s campaign manager is exposed as a paid tool of Putin who actually helped a Putin crony to work against US foreign policy, but before we had a chance to really strip that down to its bones, Trump delivers what Conservatives called an important outreach to black voters. But before we can even really drill down on that, he brings in one of the worst hatemongers in the media to run his campaign, and promises fewer speeches like the one he just made, and more rallies where being unscripted leads him to say the shit that gets him in trouble a couple times a week.

I can only wonder what new fuckups await, because this one is now >12 hours old…

The one thing that can’t be done is to compromise with this block by letting them have any real power in government. That worked out very poorly for Germany in the Weimar Republic.

They have power in many states (like NC) and it is a shit show for the ages. We still have to find a way to actually alleviate the very real problems they have while dealing with utterly implacable hatred they get from the right wing bubble.

That is the difference between us and the GOP though. We actually want to help. They prefer talk about shooting our politicians (and sometimes us).

That is something I am afraid of. Trump will likely not concede this election when he loses, and his voters and supporters in congress will take that as a cue to paint Hillary as illegitimate and illegal. I wonder if we are watching the beginning of the nation actually unraveling. A number of observers have said we are in a ‘cold’ civil war. 20 years from now, we may be able to look back and point to this year as the point where we could no longer function as a United States after all.

I hope to God not…but the civic norms that tie us together simply no longer exist. Sociologists have been pointing out we tend to see each other as actual mortal enemies instead of fellow Americans we disagree with (and God knows we keep seeing conservatives fantasizing about actual combat and shooting us as traitors)

We can no longer even agree on basic empirical facts since the other side gets information from inside an enclosed alternate reality and are fed a daily dose of conspiracy and outrage.

How do we keep working as a country if the election outcome cannot be agreed on? We have never been down that road in our history. Will Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnel actually break ranks and declare Hillary as the lawful President, and would that make any difference to the millions of voters who loathe her beyond reason and want her imprisoned or dead?

Some more background on the Syracuse church closing and converting to a mosque:

“…The closing is part of reconfiguration plans being undertaken by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse to address declines in the number of priests and the shifting of population from the cities to the suburbs, diocesan officials said. In 2007, officials announced changes that would ultimately close 40 churches in the seven-county diocese. At least 15 buildings have been closed since spring 2007. Bishop Cunningham has said the church building is underused and the cost of maintaining the structure has limited the parish’s ability to meet the neighborhood’s needs.”
syracuse.com

“…Soule has felt the pull of religion from both sides. As Catholics who had prayed in the church for decades struggled with the idea of removing the crosses, Muslims who wanted to worship there felt funny coming to pray at a building that still had crosses on top, Soule said. But they did for nearly a year, with the crosses on the top and the sign for Holy Trinity Church still outside.

The need for a mosque in the neighborhood is so great that people came anyway. Khadija Abdul Kadir’s family are refugees who came to Syracuse from Somalia. Before the Park Street mosque opened its doors, they had to walk miles or take a bus to get to another mosque. Now, it’s a few minutes walk for their daily prayers.”

“Message from a despondent GOP operative: ‘I’m beginning to think someone is just messing with us.’”

My, my, my. It wouldn’t surprise me if the one who has been “messing” with them has been President Barack Obama. As I see it, the GOP has been employing a short-term strategy to win elections while the president has been using a long-term strategy. I say this because all while they’ve been viciously attacking him, questioning his dedication and loyalty, calling him a failure, and painting him as the cause of racial divisiveness in the nation, he’s remained pretty cool. I couldn’t have done it, but by remaining above the fray, so to speak, he handed them enough rope to hang themselves. It appears to me that all of the projections they’ve made about him since January 2009 are being revealed to be qualities that describe them to a “T.” It’s a bitter pill for them to swallow and is why I think they’re looking for anyone/thing to blame for their current circumstances except themselves. Today, we discover that it’s the very elusive “something” that’s causing their problems. They don’t need another autopsy after these elections because they’ll do the same thing they did about the 2012 autopsy—-they’ll ignore its results and revert to their old game plan, the one we know so well.

“No evident progress has been made by the Legislature to pass a single, viable bill to reauthorize the TTFA,” Governor Christie said in a statement. “A well-maintained transportation infrastructure is essential to the operation of New Jersey’s economy and the people who rely upon it in all aspects of their daily lives. The current situation will persist until the Senate and the General Assembly pass an acceptable TTFA funding bill. Until they do so, the State must use money from the General Fund for emergency road, bridge, and mass transportation work.”

The order did not specify any specific road projects.

Christie had ordered a shutdown last month of most transit projects funded by the TTF after he and lawmakers couldn’t reach a deal about raising the state’s gas tax.

I still recall the Town Hall meeting where a woman cried out that Obama was an Arab or a Muslim, and John McCain tried to simply state that he was a decent, honorable man whose policies he disagreed with.

To me, that was the last hurrah for any spirit of decency in politics.

And yes, we are failing at teaching our people civics, and, just as importantly, how to deal with news media and political discourse.

I still wonder what the hell we are going to do with millions of angry, poorly educated working class voters who still have shit jobs, bad health, dysfunctional families and will be looking for somebody to blame when Trump epically flames out in November.

They aren’t the actual Trump supporters, who are older and better off than average Americans. Trump’s campaign is fueled by racism, not economic anxiety.

re: #49 Blind Frog Belly White

The other thing this reminds me of? The think Karl Rove said about the “reality-based community” -

And we have nearly 12 more weeks of this. How many more campaign managers can Trump go through?

Former Arizona Governor Jan Brewer says she suffered a “stumble of the tongue” on Tuesday when she seemed to call Hillary Clinton a “lying killer” during a radio interview.

“People want a fighter. They’re tired of the lying killer, uh, Hillary Clinton and Bill Clintons of the world,” Brewer told Mac & Gaydos on KTAR News, the audio of which was first reported by Mediaite.

When reached by phone by BuzzFeed News on Wednesday, Brewer said she just mispronounced Clinton’s name.

“I was trying to say Hillary Clinton,” Brewer said. “It was a stumble of the tongue.”

“Good grief,” she added.

Former Arizona Governor Jan Brewer says she suffered a “stumble of the tongue” on Tuesday when she seemed to call Hillary Clinton a “lying killer” during a radio interview.
She then went on to pronounce her statement at a private gathering that was over heard by sources close to the former Az Governor as not a slap at Hillary Clinton as a “stunningly dangerous **** to the Republic” but as a mispronunciation of her saying that Hillary had done one or more “cunning stunts.”

Way to dispel that notion that your city leadership, law enforcement and DA offices aren’t staffed by a bunch of racists, in light of that recent Justice Department report, Baltimore.

Neo-Nazi Lawyer Represents Baltimore in Suit Over Wrongful Arrest and 19-Year Imprisonment of Black Man

Baltimore is at the epicenter of the national debate over police violence, particularly after last week’s release of a Justice Department report documenting deep racial disparities in policing in the city. That makes it particularly surprising, if not bizarre, to find a well-known neo-Nazi lawyer serving in the city’s Law Department and defending the Baltimore Police Department.

Attorney Glen Keith Allen, 65, however, has a long history of supporting one of the most notorious hate groups in America, the neo-Nazi National Alliance (NA).
[…]
Allen’s history with organized racism and anti-Semitism is deep. Records obtained by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) show he was a dues-paying member of the National Alliance for years. Allen was also a subscriber to the NA’s racist publications, purchased entrance to a Holocaust denial conference the group held and bought a Holocaust denial DVD the group sold.

SMOTI got real excited by an LATimes daily tracking poll which showed Trump only one point behind Clinton due to a sudden surge in African-American support to over 14%. LATimes is rated as an A- pollster by 538 with a small GOP bias. However the likely explanation for an outlier like this is that since the number of African-American respondents to a daily poll like this is probably very small, sometimes a big error can occur. We’ll likely see the LATimes poll move back toward the rest of the polls as the “surge” in African-American support for Trump magically disappears.

But yeah it’s the African-American community who need to give Trump a look not Trump should be universally be seen as a bigoted assohle.

For the most part, I now use checks so that I can transfer money to someone else: I write the check, they take a picture of it with their banking app.

“BillO doing more of that right-wing minority outreach:”

Keep to the script, O’Reilly. There’s no better way to remind me what you think about blacks than having you lecture a black person about “what’s best for black people.” O’Reilly doesn’t realize how insulting it is to us. He never does this to any other group of citizens in this country. O’Reilly is the reason Trump’s poll numbers are a low as they are among Black Americans—he underestimates our intelligence and concerns. I have yet to meet another black person here in Middle GA who has said s/he will vote for Trump in November. I know this is anecdotal, but for me, it indicates that the other blacks I meet are thinking along the same lines about Trump as I am, which is soundly rejecting him on November 8.

For that matter, they’re not listening to white people, because a WHOLE LOT of white supremacists are telling them that Donald Trump is singing their song. But they can’t accept that, and they REALLY can’t get that both the black people AND the white supremacists are hearing the EXACT SAME THINGS.

So true. They don’t listen. And right they don’t listen to the white supremacists either because they’re hung up on trivalities like the fact that the KKK used to have a lot of Democrats in it. BillO et al. are creatures of epistemic closure. They don’t listen to anyone. They have no contact with reality at all.

The axiom they have at this time is that Hillary Clinton must be defeated. If Satan himself had appeared at the GOP convention, supernaturally obliterated all other candidates on live TV and announced that he was the GOP nominee, tools like BillO would dutifully fall in line.

Here’s the thing - there are 1,990,000 who didn’t go to your rally. The depth of feeling of the people who did tells you nothing at all about the ones who didn’t.

In 2008 and in 2012 there were people who voted for the Republican candidate, not out of hatred of Obama, but out of support for the Republican candidates policies. This time around, I’m afraid that all the people voting against Hillary (especially those voting for Trump) are going to go off the deep end when she wins. They aren’t a small segment of the voting population, either. That’s what scares me the most.

I was ridiculously in love with The Outsiders as a kid. And I read all of S.E. Hinton’s books repeatedly back then. She was my go-to once I outgrew Judy Blume and Beverley Cleary.

Her novels were good but kind of bittersweet. I think she was just 17 when she wrote her first novel. Good to see that she’s on the right side when it comes to The Donald.

re: #262 Nyet

There’s no way Chucky has not seen that comment. He is not being dumb. He is lying.

He’s attacking Khizr Khan because he thinks this will get him an “in” to the deranged Trump campaign. He’s definitely distorting this “evidence,” but even if he weren’t, this has no bearing at all on Khan’s criticisms of Trump. It’s pure, unvarnished character assassination - something Chuck specializes in.

Old and silly joke, but since I only have one kidney, it especially resonated with me:

One day a man was waking along the beach when he tripped over a lamp. He turned around and kicked the lamp out of anger. A few seconds later, a genie popped out of the lamp, but the genie was angry that the man had kicked his lamp.
Reluctantly, the genie said, “Even though you kicked me, I still have to give you three wishes. However because of what you did, I will also give twice what you wish for to the person you hate the most: your boss.”

So the man agreed and made his first wish. “I want lots of money,” he said. Instantly 22 million dollars appeared in the man’s bank account and 44 million appeared in his boss’s account.
For his second wish, the man wished for a couple of sports cars. Instantly a Lambergini, Ferrari and a Porsche appeared, but at the same time outside his boss’s house appeared two of each car.

Finally the genie said, “This is your last wish, you should choose carefully.”
And so the man replied… “I’ve always wanted to donate a kidney…”

Feingold says campaign infiltrated

An apparent Republican activist tried to join Democrat Russ Feingold’s team this week in what Feingold’s campaign suspects was a plot to dig up dirt on him.

In an interview with Feingold staff on Wednesday, she initially said she wanted to work on issues affecting women’s health care and unions, but clammed up when confronted about whether she had worked for conservatives and tried to infiltrate Democrat Hillary Clinton’s campaign in Iowa last year.

“I’m not going to be answering any questions, so if you want me to leave, I’ll leave. If you want me to stay, I’ll stay,” she responded, according to an audio recording provided by the Feingold campaign.

Told she needed to leave, she responded, “Cool! Well, it was great meeting you.”

Gowdy and the republican Benghazi committee have been attacking by using a variety of government documents which have been heavily redacted to the point that it’s never been entirely clear just what context they would be in if not for all of the redactions and blackouts. After democrats asked the CIA to declassify the documents so that the public could see what was really being presented, the CIA responded by stating that it had never asked for anything to be redacted. When questioned under pressure, Gowdy admitted that he himself decided to redact large portions of the documents based on his own personal judgment of what information he did or didn’t want the public to know.

I can’t claim to be surprised. After Gowdy called HRC in for a sit-down and she got the best of them and was smiling at the end of the hearing, I’ll never forget how beat and downtrodden Gowdy looked. Te look on his face was priceless. He had been exposed as a pandering tool who got beat at his own game. The end result for Gowdy was being attacked from all sides for wasting millions on a yuge nothing-burger and talk from the right about supporting and funding a RW challenger for his seat.

Don’t mean to make light of a terrible accident, but damned if there isn’t a metaphor in here somewhere (especially since it happened in state-of-the-most-recent-trump-rally):

Wednesday, August 17, 2016, 7:02 PM - Warm temperatures in Wisconsin’s upper atmosphere recently created a stagnant air mass that trapped hot air and toxic manure fumes over a farm, leaving a 29-year-old farmer and 13 of his cows dead.

This isn’t the first time manure and warm weather have combined to create health issues this summer.

On July 5, record-setting heat had settled into the community of Throop, NY — and that, combined with a lack of moisture, caused a pile of horse manure to spontaneously combust into flames.

Warm temperatures in the upper atmosphere can create a heat-trapping dome, making it difficult for toxic fumes — like the ones present in manure — to disperse.

That must be disappointing. Bernie was at least slightly plausible. Trump, Pence, Clinton, Kaine, Johnson, and Weld could all be assassinated tomorrow and there’s still no chance in Hell of Jill winning the election. Each of the other parties could grab some random goober off the street and they’d still all beat her.
