Here’s an interesting bit from Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org

Adolf Hitler believed he could apply the lessons of propaganda he learned painfully from the Allies during World War I and apply those lessons to benefit Germany thereafter. The following points offer helpful insight into his thinking behind his on-stage performances:

Appeal to the masses: “[Propaganda] must be addressed always and exclusively to the masses”, rather than the “scientifically trained intelligentsia.”
Target the emotions: “[Propaganda] must be aimed at the emotions and only to a very limited degree at the so-called intellect.”
Keep your message simple: “It is a mistake to make propaganda many-sided…The receptivity of the great masses is very limited, their intelligence is small, but their power of forgetting is enormous.”
Prepare your audience for the worst-case scenario: “[Prepare] the individual soldier for the terrors of war, and thus [help] to preserve him from disappointments. After this, the most terrible weapon that was used against him seemed only to confirm what his propagandists had told him; it likewise reinforced his faith in the truth of his government’s assertions, while on the other hand it increased his rage and hatred against the vile enemy.”
Make no half statements: “…emphasize the one right which it has set out to argue for. Its task is not to make an objective study of the truth, in so far as it favors the enemy, and then set it before the masses with academic fairness; its task is to serve our own right, always and unflinchingly.”
Repeat your message constantly: “[Propagandist technique] must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over. Here, as so often in this world, persistence is the first and most important requirement for success.”

Fox News and the US right wing noise machine have learned these lessons well.

Christ that’s stupid. Yes the money was Iran’s. Yes the US made its delivery contingent on the release of some Americans detained by the Iranian regime. So what.

What I see here is the proper and ordinary functioning of the US state department and diplomacy. We get our people back, Iran gets their money (without 30 years of interest, by the way), nobody dies.

Kinda like Newt being a slimeback cheater because he just lurved his country too much.

That nonsense by Newt Gingrich remains the all-time champion for RWNJ hypocrisy, despite exceedingly stiff competition. The combination of the excuse “I cheated because of my love for my country” combined with the fact that while he was cheating he was leading the charge on Clinton’s affairs really is a perfect 10.0 from all judges.

Trump might be talented enough to come up with something worse.

Will any journalists ask what specifically he regrets saying?

Here’s a Red State front pager on this issue:

So he says he regrets saying some things and choosing the wrong words, and any pain that may have caused. Then he also says it doesn’t matter because other stuff is more important, and closes by claiming that he always tells the truth.

So … he regrets saying really true things? Or he regrets that you made a big deal out of him saying true things? What exactly does he regret?

Is it making fun of POWs or the disabled? Is it cursing on stage or telling lies about his opponents? Maybe it’s joking about menstruation or assassination? Whatever thing he regrets, and whatever pain it caused, just know this: it’s your problem and what he said was true anyway.

Oh yeah, that’s a whole new Trump. Eyeroll here.

The media could just cut and paste this to get off to a very good start.

personally, i find them inedible

and increasingly indigestable

Pretty damn sad when RedState is making sense about this. I mean good for them but damn.

Trump’s speeches are all incredible. No one in sixth grade could believe them.

But yeah it means absolutely nothing if you just say you have regrets and don’t say what they are and then say it doesn’t matter. I’m sick of the media enabling this dangerous asshole.

I don’t think it’s just that. I think he’s tapping in to the nativists who take it as writ large that Merkel personally destroyed Germany by letting all the Muslims and refugees in, supposedly causing a super-mega-ultra-spike in crime, rape, etc. All because Merkel loves them Muslims too damn much, y’know.

I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s much more difficult for me to understand an undecided voter than a wingnut.

I don’t think there is any rational way to be undecided between Trump and Clinton at this time. Even wingnuts are more sensible than this.

I really hope so. I just can’t see people seeing through this guy’s bullshit. He needs to be wiped out though big. I’d be happy I guess if he loses either way but he needs to be largely rejected. I don’t want a more better spoken Trump type to rise from the ashes of this because Trump is more dangerous than just on his own but in what eh stands for and has emboldened.

Right, I mean it was difficult with me for Obama and Romney to see that but I concede that’s because I’m staunchly pro-Obama and Democratic but Clinton and Trump, come the fuck on.

Okay, less majescule-heavy observation:

What Trump’s said, and how his followers love it, is what happens if you took all my kvetching about epistemology and verisimilitude and grew pure crystals.

There’s no “truth” except what’s “true” by virtue of letting the people that are on-side feel smug and righteous. So all the demonstrably false stuff, all the conspiracies and hoaxes, have a kind of “truth” that resonates from Trump to his supporters—and that kind of “truth” matters more than what actually happened and what is verifiable.

Truthiness is actually a really scary concept when you think about it.

Yep. It honestly scares the hell out of me how white supremacists have been emboldened by his candidacy in a way they haven’t been in a long time. Hopefully Clinton kicks his ass and they go away. Wishful thinking I concede but we need to reject these bigoted fucks.

The NC GOP isn’t even bothering to hide what they are doing. newsobserver.com

The N.C. Republican Party encouraged GOP appointees to county elections boards to “make party line changes to early voting” by limiting the number of hours and keeping polling sites closed on Sundays.

NCGOP executive director Dallas Woodhouse emailed the request to Republican county board members and other party members on Sunday. The News & Observer obtained copies of the emails through a public records request.

Oh wait. They’re big white guys.

Nevermind.

Sarcasm. Not sarcasm.

We never do seem to win anymore.

I don’t want to take anything away from their accomplishments; they did an amazing job. It is interesting that Gabby Douglas got grief for doing the same thing these guys did. Lots of psychoanalyzing and reading into it things that simply aren’t there.

It’s the same thing that the Trump campaign is doing when they distance diagnose Clinton as having various diseases (all while the Trump clan is busy showing just how bugnuts they are and one could argue is actually conforming to any number of mental illness diagnosis points DSM-V).

This is an empty threat since the majority of them probably can’t afford to buy the jewelry the company sales, but they have to rant and throw some threats around to make themselves feel better.
