Trump’s Tone-Deaf Campaign Manager: “I’m White and I Was Very Moved by His Comment”

Living in an alternate reality?

Wow. It’s just amazing that Trump’s people keep making these jaw-droppingly insensitive comments about racial issues. They can’t seem to help themselves.

The latest tone-deaf statement comes from his new campaign manager Kellyanne Conway, who appeared today on ABC’s This Week. George Stephanopoulos played her the clip of Donald Trump saying to African Americans, “You’re living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58% of your youth is unemployed, what the hell do you have to lose?”

Stephanopoulos: Many in the African American community saw that as insulting, as they say most African Americans don’t live in poverty, and that Mr. Trump was making those comments in communities that are more than 90% white.

Conway: But those comments are for all Americans. And I live in a white community. I’m white. I was very moved by his comment.

And she says this with a big smile, as if she’s really proud of coming up with this answer. Just unreal.

Trump’s speeches haven’t been directed at minorities. They’ve been directed to his core white supporters that he’ll maintain law and order and that means making sure minorities are in their place.

After all, Trump’s made absolutely no effort to go into minority communities to seek their votes. He’s spoken from the lily white communities and nearly all white crowd backdrops to direct his statements at minorities.

Minorities are seeing all this and know the score. It’s impossible not to notice.

But Conway’s idiocy/ignorance/tone deafness extends well beyond this.

She apparently didn’t know Trump was under IRS audit.

This has been known for months - as the key excuse for why Trump wont release his tax returns (even though anyone can release their own tax returns, even when under audit).

So, they’re very literally saying, it doesn’t matter what black people think. The only folks who matter and they care about are white people.

THIS is the major problem in the GOP as I see it. Its politicians and supporters seem to think that only their concerns are valid and worthy of serious consideration. They hate BLM, ADL, the ACLU, CAIR, and any other group that might have any complaint about not being treated equally under the law.

Ignorance is always a virtue in the GOP.

There was a guy this morning on CBS Sunday Morning doing a commentary about how people are lying about things that are easily verifiable. There were two things I thought wrong about it. The first was his inclusion of Clinton. In order to be balanced, he included Clinton saying she did not send any classified information in her email. I said out loud “Hey, dude, did you actually bother to check that she did not send any?” The second thing wrong had to do with people caring about things being false. That’s the thing Trump gets away with. It doesn’t matter that we point out he’s being untruthful, if a large chunk of the population likes his lies, no amount of “But it’s not true” is going to help.

Clinton campaign manager: We haven’t found our ‘Donald Trump’ yet for debate prep

In a Sunday interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Clinton’s campaign manager, Robby Mook, said they haven’t settled on an opponent to play the outspoken Republican presidential nominee because he’s difficult to mimic.

“It’s very hard to find someone to mimic the reckless temperament and the hateful instincts and divisive instincts of Donald Trump. Preparing for a debate with him is a challenging task,” Mook said.

Seriously? All they have to do is:

1) Prop naked trump statue up at a podium
2) Hire an actor to recite random trump tweets mixed in with comments from Breitbart, Stormfront, and Free Republic

If HRC can maintain her composure under those circumstances, problem solved.

I’d recommend writing a program that just replays Trumps tweets and quotes. It could be made slightly more sophisticated than random: It could choose statements that match keywords spoken by Clinton or the practice moderator, but have a 45% chance of saying something random.

Some observers have speculated that potential picks to play Trump include Sen. Al Franken, a former “Saturday Night Live” cast member and comedian, and former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, who joked recently that his proclivity for Trump-like outspokenness could make him a good debate sparring partner.

OK, I think Al Franken can ace this assignment.

Why no white players on the US Olympic basketball team?

“Watching the awards ceremony and I notice not a single white guy on the team. Usually I wouldn’t care and I’m all for putting the best players on the team but after all the whining we heard about no black nominees during the Academy Awards this must be asked.”

“At least the Coach was white. See, the White man is still the Master.”

“The Obamalympics?”

The relevance here is another demonstration that the Republican Party and its candidate are not yet as crazy as the masses they represent, they are actually playing catch-up with the full-on derangement of the GOP base.

Drumpfskind’s parallel (and at best only a partial analogue) in the Philippines lashes out again:

Philippine President Duterte Blasts U.S. on Syria and Police Shootings, Threatens to Leave U.N.

The Philippines’ controversial president lashed out at both the United States and United Nations on Sunday, threatening to leave the international body amid mounting criticism for an anti-drug campaign that has left hundreds of people in his Southeast Asian country dead.

In a press conference that began after midnight Saturday and lasted until the early morning hours Sunday, President Rodrigo Duterte lambasted the U.S. and U.N. for failing to stem the violence in Syria, where earlier this week a picture of a 5-year-old boy pulled from the rubble in Aleppo went viral.

[…]

“Maybe we’ll just have to decide to separate from the United Nations. If you’re that rude, son of a b-tch, we’ll just leave you,” Duterte said.

Pointing to the recent killings of black men by police officers in the U.S., Duterte suggested his wasn’t the only country with human rights violations on its hands.

2. Disaster relief people, people I worked with when the tornadoes his in December, will tell you that trucks of stuff don’t do as much good as you think, and that one person won’t bring enough.

If your neighborhood burnt down, do you really want a truck load of food or clothes?

O/T

Tired as hell today. Spent all day yesterday at our Rev War unit annual memorial Jimmie Collins black powder competition shoot at the commander’s house near Fayetteville (Really big piece of wooded property and a small forest pond fed by an underground spring with two outlet streams). Collins was a police officer who was the unit commander about 20 years ago or so. He was killed in the line of duty when he was only 21 years old.

My son was old enough to shoot for the first time and did well in loading priming and firing the flintlock Brown Bess. We had 3 firing positions and fired 3 times from each: The first was from a simulated moving horse (a barrel with a dragoon saddle strapped on it placed in a moving shopping cart that shifted back and forth like horses often do in confusing battles). The second was from a roof top as a distant target and the third was from a moving canoe on a pond (while we all played “Last of the Mohicans” music from phones!). The canoe had fore and aft tow ropes so you were being pulled across at moderate speed and only had a couple of seconds where your target was visible in the bushes

I shot quite well on the horse simulation (2 bullseyes!) and also on the canoe (although loading a musket in a floating canoe is not easy, and one guy swamped himself while firing which was funny as hell). I was shooting too high on the long distant roof position though and that brought my score down to about the middle of the pack.

My kid got better through the day and did really well on the canoe shoot. I wish our army range shoots were that fun. The range was open to modern weapons for about 20 minutes until the hamburgers were ready and then we ate ourselves sick and folks started drifting inside to play HALO and watch movies if they were staying the night.

Long drive there and back again since we were not sleeping over and so today is downtime. Hope everybody is having a good end of summer :)

Actually, I thought the kiss scene with him and Madeline Stowe was teh hawtness!!

I also had friends who were on set during filming as artistic interpreters. (like an extra, but you bring your own clothing, weapons and gear and already know how to do period military stuff, so you get paid a lot more than the regular extras. You can see one of my friends in Highlander military gear holding a torch next to Ms Stowe as they are leaving the lake and coming up to the fort midway through the movie)

None of them liked Madeline Stowe apparently. I still like her work as an actress.

I looked the book up (I have heard of it before) and it doesn’t look like one of the usual offerings from the wingnut welfare brigade.

For most of our nation’s history, White Christian America (WCA)—the cultural and political edifice built primarily by white Protestant Christians—set the tone for our national policy and shaped American ideals. But especially since the 1990s, WCA has steadily lost influence, following declines within both its mainline and evangelical branches. Today, America is no longer demographically or culturally a majority white Christian nation.

Drawing on more than four decades of polling data, The End of White Christian America explains and analyzes the waning vitality of WCA. Jones argues that the visceral nature of today’s most heated issues—the vociferous arguments around same-sex marriage and religious liberty, the rise of the Tea Party following the election of our first black president, and stark disagreements between black and white Americans over the fairness of the criminal justice system—can only be understood against the backdrop of white Christians’ anxieties as America’s racial and religious topography shifts around them.

In 2016 and beyond, the descendants of WCA will lack the political power they once had to set the terms of the nation’s debate over values and morals and to determine election outcomes. Looking ahead, Jones forecasts the ways that they might adjust to find their place in the new America—and the consequences for us all if they don’t.

Around here in Hollywoodland, Madeline Stowe has something of an ugly reputation. Even by actress standards. Mean, nasty, condescending, hair-trigger, illogical, prone to temper tantrums. Take Trump’s behavior and raise it a few notches, and stick it on a set where the poor droogs laying cable & dressing sets just have to stand there & take it.

The book looks like the sort of thing you get assigned in polysci 305 or a sociology class, since that is what it seems to be. It has tons of recommendations on Amazon from reputable reviewers. Of course, when you get into the customer reviews you get a certain amount of Libtard author laughing at the decline of our churches deeeeeeerp

I imagine the kid is starting class tomorrow and has begun reading his assignments. Somebody needs to talk to him about his wardrobe, though.

He doesn’t want to admit, nor does the rest of the Right, that it was federal policy that destroyed the inner cities in the first place (FHA loans that subsidized moving all the white people to the suburbs, highway policy that destroyed city neighborhoods for the benefit of suburbanites, then the factories moving out of town to pay lower property tax and be closer to suburban workers).

The federal government no longer has any policies that are either helpful or harmful to inner cities; it’s State and County government who decides how much money the City has to work with.

Well, it went rather quickly from “Geez, the source on that seems a little sketchy, are you sure about this?” to “You are the epitome of everything that is wrong with this country!” And then started to turn into the comment-thread equivalent of a fumble down near the goal line, with people leaping onto the pile.

Not that I haven’t occasionally lost my cool when confronted with persistent refusal to acknowledge reality. Reality in this, as in all instances, being equivalent to “stuff that comes from sources that I perceive to be trustworthy.”

Dark reads out of a different playbook. Thus, reality is not the same. Irks the shit outta people sometimes. Anyway, point is: kerfuffle did not escalate. I was afraid I’d return to a shitload of downdings, so I scarpered off. As I am about to do right now, actually.
