Watch Live: Donald Trump Rants Again in Austin, TX

Politics • Views: 50,823

YouTube

Donald Trump is speaking tonight in Austin, Texas. He’s “reaching out” to minorities recently, so they’ve made sure to seat several African Americans right behind the podium where they’re sure to be on camera.

But I think everyone knows this “courting” strategy is too little, too late, and repulsively insincere — even the few Republicans who aren’t lying to themselves.

Trump is dog-whistling for “Good White Americans” who prefer their racism with a bit of deniability.

When does he start using material from The Bell Curve?

Yeah I think so too. I’m hoping that Clinton has an ad drawing attention to that Ailes is now advising Trump too like they’re doing with Bannon/Breitbart.

Trump brings Ailes onto his staff and suddenly he’s trying to sell himself to black voters and “softening” his stance towards immigrants. This shit isn’t Trump, this is Ailes trying to wrestle him back into the familiar “compassionate conservative” mold long enough to narrow the polling gap.

I’m hoping it blows up in both of their faces. Minority voters aren’t going to fall for that shit and hopefully it alienates a lot of his core supporters too who will start to see him as another “Cuck.”

Nate Silver weighs in on the similarities of the National Weather Service forecasting models for hurricanes and his own model for forecasting elections:

fivethirtyeight.com

There is an area of disturbed weather (Invest 99L) near the Lesser Antilles that is now a concern to forecasters, because if it follows the usual track of storms in that area, it puts Florida at risk of a hurricane. Moreover, the population of Florida has increased by two million since Hurricane Wilma.

He also notes that both the NHC and FiveThirtyEight try to err on the side of caution.

The National Hurricane Center currently puts its chance of becoming a tropical storm at 60% in forty-eight hours, due to record high sea temperatures.

And I truly believe that most of those here who identify as Independents are embarrassed Republicans. She’s also beating him pretty handily in young voters—now if we can just get them registered and voting!

We do actually have a dedicated Hillary rep in SC (in Columbia) and they are going to open a coordinated campaign office (state) here in our county. I just keep hoping against hope that Tom Dixon can make some noise and give Tim Scott a run for his money.

Dixon is a GREAT candidate, and Scott is a do-nothing self-serving…ok, I’ll stop, but I loathe Tim Scott and really like Tom Dixon. I gave him a check last week when he spoke at our breakfast, but Scott has over a million on hand and Dixon has about $50,000. Sigh. Wish I were rich!

Maybe if the presidential race is truly close in SC, the Senate race will get some attention and Dixon can shame Scott into debating. That’s really his only chance.

Josh Marshall’s been on a roll lately: Fear and Loathing (of Black people)

For Drumpf, every black American is living in a bombed out housing project circa 1973. And despite the country’s historically low crimes rates, urban crime isn’t at 1980s levels in the Drumpf world. It’s the Watts, Newark and Detroit riots all at once and everyday in every central city in the country.

It’s not too much to say that you could lift Drumpf’s version of African-American life as disaster porn from maybe half alt-right or white supremacist screeds. He just tacks on a “but I’ll save you” at the end.

This is pretty funny.

Donald Trump Doesn’t Have an Immigration Policy. He Has Adjectives and Adverbs.

He doesn’t even have a whole lot of nouns at his disposal. His head is mostly descriptors, adverbs and adjectives, up to a second-grade level. Someone—an interviewer, a staffer—tees up a noun for him, he assigns descriptors to it, and then the poor pundits try to determine where his descriptions of nouns in the news land on the recognizable political spectrum. Some staffer gets to him and says, Hey, polls are bad. Time for a new adjective. The cycle repeats. Throughout all of this, 14 months and counting, the candidate has had absolutely no idea what he is talking about. This applies to foreign policy, immigration, tax cuts, nuclear weapons, Morning Joe, whatever.

re: #114 VegasGolfer

Anybody see Lawrence O’Donnell tonight? A latino immigration lawyer trump spokesperson just got his ass kicked by O’Donnell and the panel. It was beautiful.

I had that on.

I’ve been wondering about Lawrence. Has anyone heard Trump ever attack him? He mentions everyone else he hates. I would think Lawrence would be on that list because he hasn’t really kissed Trump horse racing like others. He has been pretty consistent on his taking Trump to task. Yet, no hate from what I can tell.

O’Donnell speaks in paragraphs, developing an argument. Hyper Trump probably switches channels every ten seconds.

Outreach? At this point, Trump would have a hard time convincing me that he won’t try to resurrect slavery. His alt-right supporters would certainly favor it.

He’s said many times that trump has tried to sue him before. Obviously because he probably said something to get under his thin skin.

To a certain extent, the State Department is supposed to distribute ‘favors’. One of their tasks is to foster, fairly, trade with friendly nations, especially those tagged as ‘developing’.

‘If some of these efforts had succeeded, that would hardly be noteworthy. It’s the kind of thing that happens all the time. What’s really noteworthy about the most recent email releases is that they demonstrate a surprisingly high level of integrity from Hillary Clinton’s shop at Foggy Bottom. Huma Abedin was tasked with running interference on favor seekers, and she seems to have done exactly that. There’s no evidence at all that being a donor to the Clinton Foundation helped anyone out.”

I’m hoping it blows up in both of their faces. Minority voters aren’t going to fall for that shit and hopefully it alienates a lot of his core supporters too who will start to see him as another “Cuck.”

It probably won’t. I bet they think that this outreach by Trump isn’t sincere and at heart he is one of them, so they’ll tolerate it because this is the closest they have come to being validated. I only hope that Trump has left it too late to recover enough support to get him within striking distance of victory, or that he is too incompetent in its execution.

The Trump campaign seems to think that the Clinton Foundation is their ace in the hole. Just keep hitting on it and using the word “corruption” and people will assume the worst because the press is still nursing a grudge since Whitewater went nowhere.

The local NBC station made ZERO mention of the Remembrance Project having white supremacist ties when they reported on Trump’s rally. They showed these women briefly but gave no context.

Of course, the Gaspers won’t believe a word of it. The Clinton Foundation has worked tightly with several notable people, including George H. W. Bush, in spreading health and educational opportunities around the world. It is a well respected Foundation, getting an “A” grade for its efficiency and a very high percentage of grant vs admin costs.

So it must be a scam, right, Trump? As opposed to your life history?

An acquaintance-turned-JillShill I used to follow on Twitter retweeted a trump supporter saying, Herp derp, if teh Clinton Foundation is so great, why didn’t they talk about it at the convention?!?!!

Did you see what James Carville had to say? To the effect of as a political adviser he would tell them not to run the foundation. But as a human he was all for it. I think he summed it up really well. It’s too easy to construe these connections and events and conspired. Somebody linked this earlier I think.

Strangely enough, I suspect that the white supremacists will attack even more during and after her speech.

I suspect they are excited that their views will get a wider audience. Most will reject those views, but they will also fall on receptive ears.

Trump probably figures the Clintons run the same kind of “charitable” scams that he does.

The Grand Clinton Conspiracy Theory is that foreign countries donated to the Foundation in the hope of getting favorable treatment/deals from the State Department. This only works if you A) believe the Clintons are somehow drawing money out of the Foundation to enrich themselves and B) believe that the State Department’s job is something other than making deals with foreign countries.

Of course, the GCCT continues to maintain its cohesion for one simple reason: The media is focused on maintaining a “horse race” narrative and thus is treating the story not as a matter of facts vs. speculation but how “bad” it all looks for her and putting the onus on her to address it to their satisfaction.
