Trump Reacts to Hillary’s Damning Speech on His Alt-Right Ties

“Pandering to the worst instincts in our society”
Politics • Views: 57,588

Donald Trump has retweeted white supremacists and neo-Nazis and antisemites over and over and over again, even after being exposed and called out for it. He invited a notorious white supremacist to the Republican Convention and gave him press credentials. He has appeared on the batshit crazy Alex Jones conspiracy show, and praised Jones’s “great reputation.” He has encouraged people at his rallies to beat up protesters. He said a federal judge was unqualified to make decisions because he’s “Mexican,” even though the judge was born in the United States. He’s attacked women and minorities and Muslims relentlessly.

And this is how he responded to Hillary Clinton’s powerful speech tying him irrevocably to the racist “alt-right” movement:

He certainly is not lacking in the blatant hypocrisy department.

It’s hypocrisy, but it’s, first of all, cynical trolling.

I forget, did we demand that Powell and Rice be jailed for the embassy attacks that happened during their time as Secretary of State or do we only want that for HRC because we hate her. Benghazi was a tragedy but HRC does not deserve to be jailed for it. If anything, the Congressional Republicans who voted to cut embassy and consulate security funds deserve some criticism and notice how they never get any.

If Trump gets his ass handed to him in the first debate - which I strongly suspect he will - there won’t be any more debates; he’ll bail on the other ones.

The one thing Trump can’t stand is being made to look like a fool, the object of derision, a laughing stock. His ego simply will not tolerate it. He’ll walk away from the remaining debates and come up with some petty-ante bullshit excuse as to why he chose to do so.

And with that, goodnight Lizards.

Oh yeah, I think it’s hilarious that Cruz got what he had coming to him. Cruz was fine with Trump attacking Mexican immigrants, McCain’s experience as a POW, but the second that Trump went after him because he saw him as a threat, all of a sudden Cruz saw Trump as a problem. Cruz is as big a fraud as Trump is.

I think the end game here for Trump and the Breitbrats is increasingly looking like taking Trump’s deranged hate-addicted “base” and breaking off into a 3rd party.

Look for Trump to start whining that “the GOP has treated me so unfairly. So unfairly.” if he doesn’t get slavish devotion, all the money he wants laundered to his loathsome offspring via padded campaign costs, etc. etc.

Then he denounces the GOP. They denounce him, because at that point, he’s running about 20 points behind, and it’s looking like a landslide.

And then Trump says, “You don’t want me? I don’t want you! F me? F you! I’m taking my voters and forming my own party! The Trump Party! And it’s going to be YUGE and we’ll win everything.”

Until the “moderate” GOP voters decide they are more about actual principles and less about keeping their team in power (or more truthfully, that people’s lives and civil rights matter more than “small” government and no new taxes), no real split is possible.

DF makes a useful barometer of a “moderate” GOP voter. I remain unconvinced there will be a split any time soon.

Perhaps I’m too much of an optimist. But I know a lot of arch-conservatives who are seriously wondering WTF they do, now that their party has been taken over by the Klan and the Know-Nothings. These are engineers, scientists. People who live in a fact-based world (albeit one without empathy for anyone outside their family/clan).

They are not going to stay on this ride much longer, if their elected representatives keep chucking shit into the fan that they then have to somehow justify.

Which is why Clinton’s reasoned but passionate, logical approach to deconstructing just WTF Trump means … is such smart strategy.

Oh, I agree. Honestly, I don’t even know what I’d call a moderate GOPer at this poitn or tell you what it is. So much of what being a Republican and conservative is these past eight years has been defined as a reaction. Klys brought up DF and I don’t want to sound like I’m singling him out in specific here but it seems so much is about reaction. GOP accuses Obama of having too much executive power, they’re against too much executive power even though they did alot in the previous presidency to help make Bush and thus Obama a powerful executive. DF himself says he’s pro SSM but attributes that more to his Senator Kirk adapting that position which was definitely done to save one’s skin in a socially liberal state such as DF and Kirk’s Illinois. So I dunno. When the Democrats struggled in the 1980’s, there were people like then Governor Clinton working on reinventing the party for that era and improving it. Who are the GOPers that are actually trying to craft a sane center/right message in response to Oabm and HRC? I ain’t seeing that.

I guess what I’d like to see from the GOP and conservatives in this country is an actual ideology not a reaction. That is not to oppose or support something simply because Obama and now soon to be Clinton supports or opposes it. The GOP and right have always been staunch backers of free trade but all of a sudden they’ve become very protectionist on this issue. ACA again was based off of Romneycare. The problem is often IMO the GOP base itself which does not have a realistic expectation of what they expect in governance. People like John Kasich who were once the conservative of the conservatives are now seen as RINOs and moderates because they acknowledge that government is a complicated entity.

“If only we had a media that could have assembled some of this evidence.”

I read something David Cay Johnston wrote last week, and it resonated with me. He said that many in the MSM can’t do investigative journalism because they don’t know the specifics of any matter/issue. I find this to be true in both written and broadcast journalism which is why I no longer watch TV “news” programs, and I’m very particular about where I go on the internet to read the news. I’ve found that many journalists don’t know the topics they write about and tend to “go with” what some other journalists have written on the subject. It appears to me that they rearrange the words of others who’ve written about the subject/topic and slap their names on the articles. Johnston stated that he plans to address the lack of knowledge among journalists sometime in the near future. I’m hoping he does, because there’s no excuse for those like Chuck Todd to be drawing down six and seven figure salaries and knowing nothing about the subjects they write about and/or discuss. It’s a d*mn shame that something like this happens in our democracy. It has resulted in millions not knowing the truth about politicians’ positions on issues, policy differences between Democrats and Republicans and how they personally impact citizens, and political charlatans like Trump being allowed to perpetrate a yuge scam on unsuspecting citizens.

re: #80 majii

I believe a huge part of the problem is that our current “news” is treated as “political entertainment”. No context is provided, just people with microphones (and directors via their earpieces) are doing the framing as they see fit, in a vague pursuit of “thuthiness”.

It’s as if there’s an entire generation of journalists in the media that have no concept of what is a fact and how it can be presented changes what it is.

I’d sentence them to a week of watching “All The President’s Men”, “An Absence of Malice” and “12 Angry Men” and “Network” to see if there’s any way of redeeming any of them.

Think, though, of how long it took to uncover Watergate. Because we have turned news into entertainment, we get lots of short pieces without a lot of depth. Really in-depth pieces take time. These normally show up in May and November, during sweeps.

Obama, being the first non-white-man to become president, had to measure not only his words, but his topics (there were lots of things he couldn’t say because black). Clinton doesn’t have to be the first non-white man, but she’s 1) white, and 2) after her career she may already be in the not-give-a-fuck phase. Which is awesome.

Obama had a tight rope to walk, and we’re lucky he got most of the stuff right. Now it’s time for the next phase, someone who not only is willing to battle, but will hopefully convince the rest of the Democrats to fight.

well, it was a thread of one very big ugly sweater that was pulled and it took a high ranking passed over disgruntled bureaucrat to encourage them to keep digging and point them in the right direction….

I STILL don’t think the GOP ever took ownership or acknowledgement of what they did and admitting it was wrong. Instead, they took the approach that if the media can do this to us, well, we damn sure better own the fucking media.

I think that was the turning point, not that we should be ashamed of what our party did and we should change our ways, no it was “damn if we’ll ever let the media out us again!”. Just look at the players involved in this shit, how many of the Young Republicans of that age are the ones moving and shaking the GOP message and outreach.

RT has an article (which they probably wrote yesterday //):

She was making her way from the airport, when the suspicious vehicle appeared on the outskirts of the city.

“The driver of the Mercedes refused to obey orders coming from police cars accompanying the German chancellor. He tried to join the procession at all costs, cutting off a police vehicle that was trying to stop him. He only stopped and got out of the vehicle after police warned him that they were going to shoot.”

According to local news portal Blesk, officers found a baton, a canister of tear gas, cement blocks, and handcuffs in the man’s car. A video posted on its website shows several police officers talking calmly on the roadside to an unprepossessing middle-aged man, who is not displaying any signs of resistance.

Robby Mook vs. Comic-book store loser FTW.

That why I especially liked the attacks that Clinton got in about Trump being disconnected from reality.

You aren’t really going to make inroads among Republicans by pointing out that Trump is racist or fascist. Republicans don’t really have a problem with either of these.

However, if Trump is successfully tagged with the “disconnected from reality” label, some Republicans are going to start considering how dangerous it is for the guy with the nuclear launch codes to be deliberately delusional.

I see that going something like this:

Until the “moderate” GOP voters decide they are more about actual principles and less about keeping their team in power (or more truthfully, that people’s lives and civil rights matter more than “small” government and no new taxes), no real split is possible.

DF makes a useful barometer of a “moderate” GOP voter. I remain unconvinced there will be a split any time soon.

In a lot of places, the only thing a GOP candidate has to do is not be a Democrat. That might start to change after this election

I fully agree that he is a racist dick, but I think that the best way to confound him is just to ignore the assholes he associates with and keep quoting him in his own words and in context without people coming on Fox and CNN afterwards to explain what he really meant to say or not to say.

Context is his worst enemy.

Keep reminding people that he has absolutely no history of public service, no legislative or administrative record to refer to and a string of failed businesses to demonstrate his managerial skills.

Remember that so-called “softening” on immigration policy by Donald Trump yesterday where he appeared to support a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?

Well, that was yesterday. He’s back to the old policy again, less than 24 hours later.

Trump: No legal status for undocumented immigrants

Washington (CNN) - Donald Trump ruled out Thursday a pathway to legal status for undocumented immigrants in the United States, walking back comments he made earlier this week in which he appeared open to the idea.

But the Republican nominee declined in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper to clarify whether he would still forcibly deport the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants in the US — a major tenent of his immigration platform — after he suggested this week he was “softening” on the idea.

Statement From Trump Campaign Manager Kellyanne Conway On Clinton’s Latest Attack

“Today proved to the American public what we have known all along - Hillary Clinton has no hope, no vision and no ideas for the future of our country. Clinton lied about her emails, she lied about Colin Powell, and today she lied about Donald Trump. Donald Trump is talking about issues; Hillary Clinton is talking about Donald Trump. Today, as she took a break from her Hillary-in-Hiding Tour, she missed another opportunity to talk about education, infrastructure, terrorism, healthcare, the economy and energy. We’re living in her head rent-free, and that must terrify the political insiders who want to keep things exactly the way they are.” - Kellyanne Conway, Trump Campaign Manager

Trump Campaign Statement On Clinton’s Desperation Play

“Hillary Clinton’s attempt to delete the single worst week of her political career isn’t going to work. Her admission that there’s a lot of smoke but no fire is a complete lie, and the American public’s response will be to do exactly as her campaign suggests: don’t vote for her. Clinton’s attempt to blame Colin Powell for her illegal email server backfired, and there’s no way the Clintons could go from dead broke to making more $250 million since leaving office without breaking the law and trading off their access to office. This is exactly why we need a Special Prosecutor to investigate the blurring of lines between the Clinton State Department, the Clinton Foundation and the Clinton’s personal bank account. It’s corruption and the rigged system in Washington at its worst, and it’s exactly why we need to vote for a change agent like Donald Trump.” - Jason Miller, Senior Communications Advisor

Wisconsin ranks last again for start-ups

For the second year in a row, Wisconsin has earned a bottom-of-the-barrel ranking for start-up business activity, a new report says. Whether that’s as bad as it sounds or simply an unfairly skewed way of looking at the state’s economy, however, depends on the beholder.

According to the report released Thursday by the respected Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, start-up activity in the U.S. overall rose in 2016 for the second year in a row. But Wisconsin came in either last or second-to-last in each of the three categories the foundation evaluated.

Contributing to the state’s dismal start-up results: Wisconsin’s largest metropolitan area, defined as Milwaukee/Waukesha/West Allis, ranked second-to-last among metro areas nationally, above only Pittsburgh — matching last year’s ranking.

Gov. Scott Walker took exception to the methodology and focus of Kauffman’s report.

there is a grain of substance in there: when HRC talks about policy, we do not hear about it. The media would rather show an empty podium awaiting for Trump to take it than a Hillary speech on the economy, health or women’s rights.

But when she does utter things about Trump, we are led to believe that all she does is engage in ad hominem attacks on him.

What’s missing from this statement is a fierce rebuttal of HRC’s claims. His response reminds me of MC Hammer’s “Can’t Touch This!” That’s one burning hot coal of racism and bigotry Trump is refusing to touch. I can imagine behind the scenes he’s cursing a blue streak, but someone in his campaign has advised him not to speak about Bannon and the alt-right re-tweets. I’m enjoying the hell outta witnessing Trump, who normally is so vocal on every subject, refusing to address the dead elephant in the room. He’s d*mned if he does, and he’s d*mned if he doesn’t address the contents of HRC’s speech.

I read yesterday that Joe Conason was at the dinner when Powell advised HRC to use a private email service and said he heard Powell talk to HRC about it. The article also revealed that Powell admitted to Conason within the last two months that he’d said it, but I guess he got tired of GOPers calling him and asking him if he did it and pressuring him to rebut his own advice. I see he took the coward’s way out, the same way he did when he went to the UN at the behest of Bush & Cheney and lied about Saddam Hussein having WMDs.

All of these alt-right assholes are now going to rush in to defend Trump and swear their allegiance to him and the white race.

Then Trump can either disavow the racists and his base or watch the media plaster the tweets and statements of support from the KKK and whomever else EVERYWHERE. His reps will have those statements of support put in their face in every interview that is not a Hannity softball toss. Then if they try to talk about not being racist against blacks, Hispanics, Muslims, they hit Donald with his own statements. I mean, there is no way to defend against this for a campaign. None.

Yes, many on the right support themselves primarily by cranking out books, DVDs, movies, speaking engagements, etc. I don’t think any of them have what one would call a regular job. They know they don’t have to work too hard because there’s a market for the tripe they push. There’s a never-ending loop of madness on the right in that if one of them decides to push a non-issue, the others follow, and they always find a way to make a quick buck.

We-e-ell… She’s not wrong. The system as it stands does provide incentive to do just what she’s done, and contains no mechanism beyond public outrage to discourage it.

There’s been kind of an unspoken rule - as long as nobody pushes the system too hard, we can all make a decent, even indecent amount of money, and millions of people’s lives will be longer and better. It works.

But when you have people like Shkreli or this woman, taking an established drug and raising the price enormously just because the people who need the drug REALLY need it, and insurance will pay for it, you tempt fate. You invite draconian regulation, and that really won’t do anyone much good in the long run.

A notable paper on evolution is published in Nature Communications:

Comparative genomics reveals convergent rates of evolution in ant-plant mutualisms

Symbiosis—the close and often long-term interaction of species—is predicted to drive genome evolution in a variety of ways. For example, parasitic interactions have been shown to increase rates of molecular evolution, a trend generally attributed to the Red Queen Hypothesis. However, it is much less clear how mutualisms impact the genome, as both increased and reduced rates of change have been predicted. Here we sequence the genomes of seven species of ants, three that have convergently evolved obligate plant-ant mutualism and four closely related species of non-mutualists. Comparing these sequences, we investigate how genome evolution is shaped by mutualistic behaviour. We find that rates of molecular evolution are higher in the mutualists genome wide, a characteristic apparently not the result of demography. Our results suggest that the intimate relationships of obligate mutualists may lead to selective pressures similar to those seen in parasites, thereby increasing rates of evolution.

Neat.

But here’s the click-bait headline in the Independent:

A key theory of evolution has just been turned on its head

And of course the creationist jump on.

‘Baby Simulator’ Programs May Make Teen Girls More Likely to Become Pregnant, Study Finds

Though they are designed to help deter teen pregnancies, school programs that involve the use of “baby simulators” may have the opposite effect, according to an Australian study published today.

The investigators found that girls enrolled in schools that employed infant dolls and education sessions that simulate what having a baby might be like, were about 36 percent more likely to have a pregnancy — at least one birth or abortion by age 20 — compared to those in schools that only employed the standard school curriculum.

“We were very surprised” Sally Brinkman, lead author and associate professor at Telethon Kids Institute at University of Western Australia told ABC News. “It’s one thing to get results to say it doesn’t work, it’s another to get results that does the opposite.”

More concerning to me than business start-ups, is the Wisconsin GOP continued attacks on public health.

Fox Valley abortion clinic closing

Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin is closing a Fox Valley abortion clinic, preventing women from accessing abortion anywhere north of Madison and Milwaukee in the state.

The announcement comes two months after a legal victory for Planned Parenthood that supporters of abortion rights hoped would keep open clinics like the one in Grand Chute, near Appleton.

But the organization announced Monday it was closing the Grand Chute clinic because of security concerns. Planned Parenthood conducted a review of its facilities after a shooting last year at one of its clinics in Colorado Springs, Colo., and found the Grand Chute clinic did not have enough protections.

This will be the 6th PP location closed in Wisconsin since Scott Walker and the GOP took total control of the state. PP says the security upgrades required to operate the clinic are too high to keep open. This Appleton clinic was attacked in 2012 with a firebomb.

Planned Parenthood and another abortion provider sued the state in 2013, as soon as GOP Gov. Scott Walker signed a law that would have required doctors to have admitting privileges at hospitals within 30 miles of where they perform abortions. A federal judge blocked that law and an appeals court upheld the ruling.

Looks like taxpayers are going to have to cough up though.

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear the case in June, a day after striking down a similar law in Texas. The abortion providers are now seeking $1.8 million from Wisconsin taxpayers to cover their legal costs.

This is going to be bad for the women of Wisconsin.

Kathy Hartke, chairwoman of the Wisconsin section of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, said the closing of the clinic would harm low-income women who can’t afford to travel hundreds of miles and an overnight stay to get an abortion. She blamed the closure on violent rhetoric by abortion opponents, restrictions on the procedure approved by Republicans and the repeal of a law that required Wisconsin schools to provide comprehensive sex education.

“These women are suffering due to political maneuvering,” Hartke said of women who won’t be able to get abortions in the area.

As the paper pointed out, the hypothesis that has been challenged by the discovery was a way to propose a mechanism to describe some observations.

More observations show that the hypothesis is inadequate.

Which is how science works, but what the Independent headline hides is that the paper actually demonstrates how evolution works - as evolution is now defined as a change in the DNA of a breeding population. That was shown in the case of these ants. What was further discovered is that the mutualists showed more evolution, i.e., more changes in their DNA, than expected.

What always drives me nuts about how Science, particularly Evolution, is presented in the popular press is these clickbait headlines and the resulting horseshit from anti-Science types. The last always talk about Science being Dogma, and how we scientists all have to conform, etc.

They have NO IDEA just how incredibly cool we find a new discovery that overturns a long-accepted conclusion!

SCIENCE IS ALWAYS CHANGING ITS MIND!!!!

Scientists: “We investigated whether A might be true. In our small study, results supported the hypothesis.”

Popular Press: “SCIENTISTS PROVE A IS TRUE!!!!”

Scientists: “We did a larger study of A, and found out that, in fact, B is true, and also why the previous study suggested otherwise.”

Popular Press: “SCIENTISTS NOW SAY B IS TRUE!!”

Public: “Scientists can’t make up their minds! I’m gonna eat this donut, wash it down with a gallon of Coke, and smoke this cigarette. Scientists don’t know anything.”

Time to reset that Texas clock again.

Richardson Couple: Someone Killed Our Dog Over Clinton Sign

RICHARDSON (cbsdfw.com) - A Richardson couple thinks a series of cruel attacks on their home is the result of a Hillary Clinton campaign sign in their front yard.
Matt Steadman says he wasn’t surprised when three separate signs were stolen from their yard almost as fast as he put them out.
But last week that third sign was also taken, followed by an ominous note left under the doormat.
“It said ‘Hillary for Prison 2016,’ ” Steadman said.
[…]
The next day the family’s SUV was vandalized to the point an auto shop said it’s unrepairable.
“Smelled the inside of my gas tank and there was bleach,” said Steadman. “I’ve never heard about bleach and gas tanks and cars.”
But it wasn’t over. On Sunday, the Steadman’s 2-year-old Shepard mix named Abby got sick.
“She started tremoring and she started shaking, I called Beth around 4 and said ‘I think somethings wrong with Abby.’ “
Abby died Monday, the result of ingesting a neurotoxin, according to the Steadman’s veterinarian.
[…]
A Richardson police detective visited the home Tuesday night but a police spokesperson told CBS11 there isn’t an official investigation a this time.

A couple of suggestions.

You could come to my place and I’d be happy to help make and eat the cake. ;-)

Or:

Get a bar stool or similar tall chair to use at the kitchen counter.

Or, for tonight:

Move the mixer to a table and then put something on a chair to boost you up, so that you’re sitting high enough to use the mixer. You may need to turn the chair sideways since your legs might not fit under the table when you’re sitting higher.

Then send me a piece of the cake.

Or you can just read those white nationalists’ own reactions to her speech.

The ‘Alt-Right’ Is Thrilled By Hillary Clinton’s Denunciation

The attention shows “we’ve made it,” a neo-Nazi website declared.

Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s powerful denunciation Thursday of “alt-right” extremism that she said GOP opponent Donald Trump embraces was cheered by adherents of the political philosophy.

Clinton, linking Trump with white nationalists and a “radical fringe,” delivered a blistering attack on what she said was the alt-right’s takeover of the Republican Party. In doing so, she cast a spotlight on the obscure movement, thrusting it into mainstream political discussion.

“She is doing the white nationalism movement a great service by bringing attention to our issues to the forefront of political debate,” said William Johnson, a leader of the white nationalist American Freedom Party who was selected by Trump as a California delegate during the primary, but later resigned.

This article I paged earlier called it almost two months ago:

And political journalists, who have cataloged the many incidents of racism and anti-Semitism in the Trump campaign, now face a tough choice. Because Trump is the nominee, there is going to be tremendous pressure to air “both sides” of these controversies in order to appear balanced. CNN, for instance, gave former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who it has hired as a commentator, airtime to call criticism of Trump’s Star of David tweet “political correctness run amok.”

If that’s the kind of coverage that dominates this campaign season - rank anti-Semitism met with largely unquestioned “on the one hand, on the other” reporting - then the mainstreaming of prejudice will continue unabated over the next several months. And if that happens, win or lose, Trump’s legacy will be secure: making America hate again.

Sad (but not surprising) to see the prediction come true.

The way I see it, outside of Trump doing a total 180 on his beliefs, rhetoric, and people with who he is surrounding himself, the alt-right/white nationalist faction will continue to vocally support him - because in their own words, they agree with him on just about every policy - and he will have to wear that like an albatross pretty much for the rest of his political life. They have a hero in Trump, and they aren’t going to go away.

332
A Cranky One  Aug 25, 2016 • 5:55:23pm

Narcissists like Trump have an Achilles heel: they can’t acknowledge being wrong or being labelled responsible for a wrong thing or action. This is why Trump refuses to apologize for anything. It’s an acknowledgement that he was wrong, something he’s incapable of doing.

I’m hoping the Hillary team understands this and will use it against the witless cocksplat during the debate. Trump will attempt to deflect but when pressed I suspect he would soon go into a name-calling rage.

This tactic does appear present in some of the Hillary ads Charles posted earlier. Trump has already ducked behind his Shield of DARVO by calling Hillary a bigot. If this gets any real media attention, Trump will be forced to defend retweeting alt-right types, using their materials and talking points. And he will defend it, because he can’t admit to having done wrong.

This could get entertaining.

Seeing quite a few cons trying to play the ZOMG ANDREW’S TARNISHED MEMORY card tonight. Do they honestly think anyone is going to believe that Andrew Breitbart would hate what his site is now?

Breitbart’s basic premise was that liberalism was Cultural Marxism…as in the Frankfort School conspiracy theory.

So…horseshit on the idea that his successors have somehow strayed into fringe-y bigotry.

re: #331 Bill and Opus for 2016!

They have a hero in Trump, and they aren’t going to go away.

yes
this is now something we can all say and point to
its been brought to light by a presidential candidate in a major speech more or less covered by the media
these are real people. they believe this stuff. and they support this guy. because he gives them reasons to. its not just that they decided. it’s on him.

and so “the party of trump” follows

It’s meat cake!
-George Carlin Ice box man

I won’t give details, but my yearly vacation to the middle-east coast features a traditional “meat cake” at the end of our group stay. It’s a settled recipe at this point: ground meat flavored with about two dozen herbs & spices, cooked as a loaf in layer cake shape, and frosted with colored mashed potatoes. It’s a communal effort to assemble, frost, and distribute.

Besides being fun, it is GOOD.

Watch out now, you might be accused by a few Lizards of “ganging up” on Dark and “piling on”///

Seriously though, most Lizards have given Dark plenty of slack over the years, but he’s made it abundantly clear that he’s a Republican because his dad (and his mom?) is a Republican and, regardless of his position on certain issues, he’ll always be a Republican. He’ll never change and he’s said as much, even as it becomes clear the the GOP is mainstreaming bigotry and hate like never before.

I’ve gotten short with him before. I’ve always apologized for rude behavior (hey, I’ve said some nasty things to the guy, not proud of it) and yes, I’ve scrolled through his bile on this board for years because he is for the most part respectful and courteous.

And he’s voting for Donald Trump, guaran-fuckin-tee. And that makes him lousy.

re: #332 A Cranky One

This could get entertaining.

asking how, specifically is hillary a bigot is no different from
asking how, specifically are you going to keep “the blacks” from being shot and killed on the street
or asking how, specifically are you going to identify muslims at the border
or how, specifically will jobs “come back”

He’s already evaded that question. The questions need to be framed to force Trump to either defend actions such as retweeting alt-right types, using their material, etc. or to admit he was wrong to do so. He’ll defend his actions.

Note that he lies whenever confronted with something awful he’s done or said even though there is video of him doing so. His great memory suddenly fails and he’ll deny the direct evidence.

The trick is to pressure him to defend a wrong action and not to let up. He’ll explode.

Well, part of Mr. Trump’s idea to go after Heidi Cruz came when, during the Utah primary race, a super-PAC for Cruz put up billboards attacking Melania Trump (with one of her nearly-nude model spreads) to create moral panic amongst Utah Republican voters.

Cruz could have disavowed the billboards or condemned them, but he didn’t.

Oh, and in case anyone needs brain bleach, this makes a great 3½-minute mental health break. The visuals are spectacular.

I picked a helluva time to temporarily emerge from retirement (irresistible project). Missed Hillary’s speech, my old bones are screaming and even a lovely Merlot isn’t making me less cranky.

That said… Hillary made it to my short list of heroes back when she gave full throated and unequivocal support to women’s reproductive rights and gun control - two issues the Dem party has ducked for decades. Now she’s taking no prisoners on racism and alt-right. I’m looking forward to casting my vote for her even more than I did for Obama - something I never would have thought could happen.

I’m a real proud Democrat tonight. Thanks Hillary for showing the boys what real courage and strength looks like.

“Are there truly people who paid for that writing with real American dollars?”

To invoke an Arthur Koestler meme:

They are “Call-Girls.”

Man, half those things looked like something from a H. P. Lovecraft story.

Frosted Meat Loaf

I’m going to make that with cheesy potatoes and q layer of mashed carrots between the taters and meat. Yummo! That looks awesome!

I did not bake the cake. I even cracked an opioid but The Feet Pain is still too intense. I like majji’s idea of using a bar stool, but we don’t have one. “Bar stool” is now on the list for the next Target shopping trip.

Maybe next time consider the myriad options for mug cake. It’s easy peasy and cooks in the micro. Usually the recipes are for two mugs and they have great ratings. There are a boatload of varieties, too.

re: #500 The Vicious Babushka

I decided to check… and was shocked to see fucking commies being reasonable:

It is shortsighted and just not true to argue that Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are the same, in order to justify voting for a third party whose issues sound good, or just stay at home. It is shortsighted because the number one issue right now is the threat that Trump and Republicans pose to our future. Contributing to a close election, or a possible Trump victory will not win those issues. On the other hand, sticking together in a united vote and crushing Trump can create conditions to support a President Clinton where it is deserved, like pay equity for women, and to push and oppose where it is needed, like an aggressive foreign policy.
Solidarity
A people’s agenda that challenges corporate control will not be able to move forward without strong, multi-racial, multi-cultural participation and unity. It can’t move forward without strong participation from workers and their unions, who are working hard to defeat Trump and elect Hillary Clinton because of her support for working family issues.

re: #89 Belafon

Why would anyone write “2K16”?

Because it saves typing characters. Oh yea, never mind. It for the irony, yes that’s it, the irony.
