These Trump memes just keep getting more egregious. Now I’ve got a guy trying to tell me Trump brought a whole FLEET of trucks with him to the LA floodzone and the media never reported it because Liberal bias something something.

This came up on my Facebook feed. A pretty righteous rant.

The Moron’s Case For Hillary Clinton…because some of you really are that stupid.

An old colleague and I were having breakfast this morning when he looked up at the news (I can’t remember which network …MSNBC, I think) and noticed a split screen of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. He lamented long about how terrible both candidates are in this election and I guess we just have to choose the lesser of the two evils or, as he put it, “…put on a blindfold and just pick. It doesn’t really make any difference.”

And that’s when I went off.

I am really sick and tired of people saying both candidates are equally horrible choices, how much America thoroughly hates both of them to the core, that there’s not a single positive trait in either one of them and wow, if only we had voted for that guy behind the deli counter or the neighbor’s cat, America would be WAY better off.

Fuck you. Fuck the deli guy and fuck your neighbor’s cat.

Worth a read.

I have a customer who keeps his Chihuahua in his shirt. You may have seen me mention him before, or his damned Chihuahua, who bit me once. (My fault, I got too close.) He was just in. I thought, ‘He’s early, I didn’t expect him until first of the month’ (to pay me the $1.15 he owes me.) But he just came for a visit. Among other things, he told me he quit heroin eight years ago, and that’s when he got the dog, who helps him a lot. The dog tells him when he’s about to have a seizure so he can choke down some meds and avoid it. He also told me his parents were killed when he was 4 months old and he was raised by his uncle. And that he was drafted in the 60s, did two tours in Viet Nam, where he could never achieve any rank because he kept getting in trouble, but he became a platoon leader. Then he told me about the drugs and deprogramming and getting out with an OTH that he could get switched to a General or an Honorable at this point.

He told me a few more things, but nothing that wouldn’t make him seem even more like a crazy old man. I’m starting to think maybe he’s not, though.

Something isn’t working

There was a bug in the Twitter embedding code, now fixed. But I notice you’ve been using the “embed code” supplied by Twitter to post tweets — this will work, but it’s a lot easier to just copy and paste the address of the tweet.

You can do this by right clicking the timestamp of the tweet and copying the link, then pasting it in here. In a timeline showing a list of tweets, the timestamp is here:

If you’re looking at an individual tweet, then just click your browser’s address bar, select the link, then copy and paste it here.

Still remember when Frank Sinatra, Trini Lopez and Sammy Davis Jr. were on Soupy’s show and they all got pied!

Another great Soupy moment was his New Year’s Day show when he told the kids to take the GREEN PICTURES out of Mommy’s purse and Daddy’s wallet, put them in an envelope and mail them to Soupy in New York!

But, before Roseanne and everything else since, he was the boorish, prototypical jock football coach in Revenge of the Nerds (and a little bit slimmer than when he started on Roseanne).

Talk about one of the seminal 80s movies; it was really the first breakout movie for much of the main cast (Goodman, Robert Carradine, Anthony Edwards, and James Cromwell [billed as Jamie Cromwell in RotN], to name a few).

And, don’t forget, it had Ted “”Sitcom Killer”/Jefferson D’Arcy” McGinley in it too, so there’s that ;-)

Things used to be different even here in the US. I remember looking it up back when it was relevant to me. In my state, like most, the AoC was 16, in a couple of states like New York and Alaska it was 18, in most of the South it was 12, and in Delaware it was 7 (!). Somewhere between ~1970 and now, it’s crept up to 18 everywhere, apparently.

There’s a movement to change that across the nation. Virginia changed its law this year:

Only adults can get married in Virginia, according to a new law replacing policies that made it possible for a girl 13 or younger to marry if she had parental consent and was pregnant.

The law, which took effect Friday, sets the minimum marriage age at 18, or 16 if a child is emancipated by court order. It takes parents and pregnancy out of the equation.

The change is aimed at curbing forced marriage, human trafficking and statutory rape disguised as marriage. Activists say the previous law created a “fast-track to child marriages” for abusers who could evade investigation by child-welfare officials by simply marrying their victims.

[….]

The statistics prompted the Falls Church-based Tahirih Justice Center, which works to end forced marriage in the United States, to set about getting the laws changed through a rare bipartisan effort.

Sen. Jill Holtzman Vogel (R-Fauquier) and Del. Jennifer L. McClellan (D-Richmond) sponsored identical bills that passed during this year’s legislative session, despite some opposition.

Similar bills were introduced in California, Maryland, New Jersey and New York this year, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

My wife’s Kentucky classmates used to run down to a small town across the Tennessee border, where they could get married at 12. Of course that was in the Pleistocene.

And I still don’t think that most people are going to describe the 24 year old as a pedophile. Skeevy, maybe, but for most people the word pedophile is used to indicate a relationship with a pre-pubescent child.

I’m not going to take a strong position on age of consent stuff (specifically that bubble between say 16 and 18) because I think it’s something where blanket rules are difficult.

re: #191 klys (maker of Silmarils)

And I still don’t think that most people are going to describe the 24 year old as a pedophile. Skeevy, maybe, but for most people the word pedophile is used to indicate a relationship with a pre-pubescent child.

I’m not going to take a strong position on age of consent stuff (specifically that bubble between say 16 and 18) because I think it’s something where blanket rules are difficult.

You could make the argument about a lot of things: Can’t drive because you’re 15 and 364 days? Vote because you’re 17 and 364 days? Serve as President because you’re 34 and 364 days?

I just said I’m not going to argue about it.

However, for the purposes of clarity, I think most people have met someone who is older than their age and someone who is younger. That’s the kind of thing that makes it fuzzy to me. I understand why, legally, there is a cut-off date.

16 is for so-called Romeo & Juliet laws… if it’s a pair of 15- or 16-year-olds, or a 15 y.o. with a 17 y.o., they can’t bust one of them (or both) for being with someone underage. There’s no place it’s legal for a 25-year-old to be with a 16-year-old.

Sorry, not true. In Kentucky, at least, the age of consent is 16 y.o. with any adult.

Trump doesn’t seem to realize that after you’ve knocked someone down, kicked and stomped them, it’s very hard to get that person to trust you. He has a heinous history of dealing with POC. Re-tweeting alt-righters, pretending he doesn’t know white supremacists are among his strongest supporters, and hiring Bannon as his campaign CEO to run his campaign all speak for themselves. As Jonathan Capehart noted a couple days ago, I haven’t met one other black person here in Middle GA that has one good thing to say about Trump. None of us are buying his sudden pivot to expressing concern for us. The bottom-line is that he wants to use us to win the presidency, but it ain’t gonna happen. If he wanted us to consider voting for him, he should have never began his primary campaign attacking Hispanics/Latinos. We Black Americans know well that if a politician viciously attacks one group of Americans, he’ll do the same to all other groups. I fully expect him to attack his own supporters when/if he loses in November because that’s what he does—-blames someone else for his own mistakes.

When you’re losing in most every reputable poll, the media is pretty obviously only humoring you, and your surrogates are not even meeting that low bar…yeah, you gotta take what you can get to believe you’re still even in the running. Crazy Uncle Liberty supporters did that all the time to believe he still had any chance to ever be president.

There’s something about photos of Harry Truman playing poker that I find very intriguing. For instance, check out the mechanic’s grip of the dealer in the first photo. That’s how it’s supposed to be done. Harry obviously played a pro’s game.

They fantasize about those people voting 15 times for Hillary, yet their gold standard is a type of poll that there’s nothing to prevent them from voting in 15 times—that’s totally legit!

I’m a liberal, so I am too lazy to click my mouse 15 whole times!

But I will struggle mightily to sign up for my Ohio ballot online, sent to me in the mail so I can finish it and get it back to the main post office in plenty of time.

Yep…gonna be tough for this liberal.

Sykes has been absolutely miserable with the whole of the GOP/Conservatives side of things.

I was never all that familiar with him, but he seems like a true moderate sensible conservative that maybe covered for some of their many years of crap but just ran out of cover anymore with the whole Trump phenom.

uh, no. That’s how he’s rebranding himself. He’s just as responsible for the tea party takeover of Wisconsin as any other mouthpiece for the GoP

I admit I never knew much about him. It was only late last year because of his stance against Trump that I heard of the guy.

So I will definitely listen to anyone familiar with him and what he has done. All I know is what the TV media is selling and they make him to be some sensible conservative everyone should admire for his stand.

They’re really no better. As a matter of fact, the Postal Service is subject to much stricter scrutiny.

UPS and FedEx won’t even deliver to my house, because it is sixty miles from the nearest depot. (The Post Office is cheaper, too.) The Post Office is one block from my house.

Okay, here is some of what he’s done.

Charlie Sykes is a wingnut grifter. He sees which way the wind is blowing with Mr. Trump and is trying to position himself for the fallout, nothing more.

rationalwiki.org

A third rate Rush Limbaugh wanna-be from Wisconsin. Has written three books about how “liberals” have dumbed-down the current generation of children in academia and rants about the “victim mentality” of left-wingers and minorities. One of his books is Fifty Things You Won’t Learn In School, which is basically him telling teenagers that they’re nothing special and they’re stupid and narcissistic for thinking that they are. Sykes’ 1996 newspaper column “Some Rules Kids Won’t Learn in School” has been circulated widely in a right-wing chain mail, misattributed to Bill Gates. He’s a huge fan of Paul Ryan and subscribes to his ideology that people on welfare are all “entitled” and are moochers that are responsible for the “decay of American culture.” He also occasionally writes for the American Thinker. In other words, he’s a pseudo-intellectual hack who isn’t nearly as well-informed or as observant as he thinks he is.

cognidissidence.blogspot.com

It should not come as a surprise to anyone that Charlie Sykes is a racist. His show and his blog is full of examples of his race baiting.

Heck, he’s so bigoted that he will only let the “right” conservative black writers publish articles on his latest endeavor, “White Wisconsin.”
But even as inured as we are to Sykes’ race baiting and bigotry, he went to new lows last Thursday.

On his show, he played the audio for part of this song, which is called “It’s Free Swipe Yo EBT.” I must warn the gentle reader that this is most definitely Not Safe For Work.
The video is full of exaggerated racial stereotyping of black women that one would expect from racists.

True. I know with USPS, UPS and Amazon my package will get to my house. Some of those other services do not even deliver the item. Amazon was using a courier that told them my address did not exist. After that fiasco, Amazon used their own trucks to deliver a few of my items. They were able to find my house. :)

The Post Office is always criticized. But just as in your case, they are the only people that will go where no one else goes to get a small box or a few letters to someone. And they get criticized because they don’t make money yet who else has the service, not business, model of get it there its needed?

They do a great job all considered.

All but a handful of the watches I’ve bought, mostly on Ebay, are shipped via USPS. Almost without exception, they arrive within 3 days, mostly 2 days, in nearly unblemished boxes, and for about $5 from anywhere in the Continental US.

Can’t beat that with a stick.

I live in a major metro area, and most of my Amazon deliveries are initiated with UPS, but then they dump them off at a USPS distribution center for final delivery. Basic mail is a necessary service, and no private firm is ever going to be as full service as the USPS, so I’m always going to be in favor of keeping it viable.

In my town of 128, when my wife was the library director she had to do a demographic survey for the state library commission. Turns out there are 39 veterans here.

I am the only Democrat amongst the veterans.

Turns out the rest of the vets are really upset with Teh Donald, and many are planning not to vote for him (or vote for Mrs. Clinton).

My dad was telling me about the guys he occasionally meets up at Whataburger, all of whom are Vietnam veterans. My dad is a Democrat, but he says there’s one other guy who’s a Democrat that will fight with you over it (he’s actually going to the VA to get some anger management help). Dad said one day recently, some guy walked up to the table and said “So, do you think we can beat that bitch?” The group went silent. My dad looked at his friend, and one of the other guys whispered to the guy who walked up “You’d better get out of here.”
