Herb and butter sear sounds great to me. You will be inviting me over, right?
Although Mr. C. is preparing a nice tri-tip on the grill, with corn on the cob, so it’s a tough choice.

Oil a wet cedar plank. Sprinkle with sea or kosher salt. 20 min over hot coals. Lemon slice on top if you must fuck with it.

If you ever visit Canada this time of year, particularly the prairies and Eastern Canada, treat yourself to some corn on the cob. Peaches and Cream is fab if you can find it. This is harvest time so there’s plenty of tasty fresh corn to be had.

A nice chardonnay. Probably going with a simple light herb and butter sear on rice. Iron skillet.

lawhawk  Aug 28, 2016 • 6:06:03pm

re: #18 Great White Snark

I’d say add a bit of the chardonnay to the lemon butter. It’ll bring out a bit of the nuttiness in the butter as it browns. Helps deglaze the pan too.

Been seeing a series of ads here on Philadelphia TV that are all anti-McGinty. Standard fear, fear, fear stuff about illegal immigrants raping children and then hiding in Philadelphia due to it being a sanctuary city, etc. etc. etc.

Looks like something bought by the NRSC if I read the fine print at the end correctly.

Real (small) rally, probably a fake title.

“…Although north Orange County has a large Latino population, only about 50 to 60 Latinos and Caucasians turned out for the 2 p.m. rally. There were no counter-demonstrations and no disturbances, according to police.

This was the first event that Latinos for Trump has held in Orange County, and Gutierrez said he was happy with the turnout.”

Ninja OT comment (because I’m gonna disappear again for a bit) but I ran my first 10k this morning and my time was AMAZING.

The official race clock had it at a 12:19 min/mile pace (1:16:23.73) but my FitBit (which was more accurate, dammit) had it at 11:57 min/mile pace (1:15:34) with my best split being 11:08.

Before today, my best mile time was 12:38.

I am on such a high right now.

Inspirational. I used to run a lot—including half and full marathons—but let myself slack and balloon; I’m probably 40 lbs overweight right now. I’ve started running again. It’s really not easy starting from zero or near zero. Congrats!

Of course any time was going to be a personal record, because I’d …never run a 10k before. But that felt really damn good. (And then frustrating when the race clock came in so far behind what I knew I’d run from the FitBit. But whatever. It’s still a good enough time to guarantee me a better corral placement for the half, which is the whole reason I was running it in the first place.)

YAY!

Have you seen MTV Live? It was the former Palladia. They show “Epic Awesome Videos” in half hour to hour chucks of time and mixed in with Live concert footage.

I miss the old Palladia. It tended to have more documentary content and movies about Rock ‘n’ Roll themes, etc.

It is on Time Warner (soon to be Spectrum (Charter) here in Columbus.

Does the FitBit doe time in motion? I.e. when you stop, it stops recording? Most of the smartphone aps like Strava and MapMyRide do that.

I use Strava, and eCrumb (a RoadID app) and a cyclocomputer, an all 3 give me different distances. Today, Strava thinks I went 46.4 miles. eCrumb thinks I went 45.9 miles, and the cyclocomputer thinks I went 46.6 miles.

It’s like the saying, “A man with a watch always knows what time it is. A man with two watches is never sure.”

It doesn’t, but I can set exercises where I start and stop the time manually. Which I did. The distance might not be exactly accurate (although it was close enough that I was expecting the deviation to be in the 10 second range), but the timer aspect should be solid.

A second app I had running was 1:17 and change, but I let that run well after I crossed the finish line because it was playing some story related audio. (My splits there match up well with the FitBit splits, minus the last one where I didn’t hit stop because audio.)

Some folks we used to know brought some salmon that the guy had caught on a charter fishing trip. Nice looking salmon, for all that it had been frozen. We cooked it on my grill. After 5 minutes on the first side, I said, “Isn’t it about time to turn that?”

“Nope! Not yet!”

He let it go ANOTHER 5 minutes. Then he flipped it and cooked it 10 minutes on the OTHER side. Driest salmon ever. Waste of good fish.

Idiot.
