Trump Lies Again! Peña Nieto Says He Told Trump Mexico Wouldn’t Pay for “The Wall”

Unreal
Politics • Views: 56,985

Today in Donald Trump’s press conference after meeting privately with Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto, Trump was asked by a reporter about his frequent forceful statements that Mexico was going to pay for the ridiculous gigantic border wall he says he’s going to build. At every rally for the past year Trump has made a big deal out of this claim, screaming to his audience, “WHO’S GONNA PAY FOR THE WALL?” and the audience screams back, “MEXICO!” Then everybody laughs and cheers as if this is brilliant and not mind-bogglingly idiotic.

But today when he was asked about this, Trump said he had not even discussed payment for the wall with Peña Nieto. Which is absurd enough on its face, and makes him look like a complete coward, an Internet Tough Guy without the guts to say it to Peña Nieto’s face.

However — the truth is apparently even more ridiculous and cowardly, because now Reuters is reporting that Peña Nieto told Trump in their private meeting Mexico would not pay for the wall!

A translation of Peña Nieto’s tweet:

At the beginning of the conversation with Donald Trump, I made clear that Mexico will not pay for the wall.

And that means that Trump stood right there in that press conference and lied right to Peña Nieto’s face, and to the rest of the world as well, even though he had to know this was going to come out.

This is the Republican Party’s candidate for president of the United States, folks. It would be funny if it weren’t so disturbing.

The “wall” will cost $25 billion to build? Where did that come from?

Just had a chance to catch up. Looks like this Trump in Mexico gig is gonna be one of those deals where you get to judge how it went by who’s take you read or hear.

Oh by the way, are we still allowed to be critical of the media in America? Asking for a friend.

I guess it’s possible Peña Nieto is lying — but this is exactly what he’s been saying all along, that Mexico will never pay for the wall.

We now know why Trump didn’t want his media entourage to follow him during the trip. If there exists any video whatsoever of the meeting, then Nieto has him by the balls.

I don’t remember where I read it, but a civil engineer gamed out the cost of materials, labor and infrastructure necessary to build the wall (remember, they’d have to actually build roads to remote areas to even get the materials on site), and he estimated $25 - 30 billion.

Trump has said anything between $4b and $12b. Jon Oliver did some back of the envelope calculations that got to $25b to build, and an absurd amount to maintain (something like $3.5b per year).

Hey, what’s a wall but a skyscraper laying on its side without plumbing or electricity? With Trump’s world class building and negotiating skills, he’ll get it done at a tiny fraction of that.

Which, according to the venerable Chuck Todd, means she’s stooping to his level in a race to the bottom -_-

By the way, did anyone hear a peep from the MSM about Hillary Clinton’s newly announced mental health care policy? Granted, your results may vary, but I googled it just now and the only big-name American MSM outlets that come up in the top results are USA Today and the Washington Post (and the Post, IIRC, was banned from trump events anyway). It seems the only time HRC’s statements get widespread coverage is when she either directly or indirectly talks about trump.

(I recall seeing, several months ago, a clip of an exasperated Marco Rubio making a point to this effect, i.e. that the only time he got significant media coverage was when he insulted trump’s hand size)

I would think a master negotiator like Trump would know that you don’t enter into negotiations by making concessions to other side before they’ve even made their offer. If you’re not going to bring up who pays for the wall in the first meeting, then the other side’s going to assume it’s not an issue that needs to be addressed. If you start talking a wall without talking funding, expecting to bring up funding once you’ve got an agreement to build the wall, then the other side’s going to laugh in your face.

I’m guessing that tonight he’ll say that yeah, they did talk about the wall and
Mexico’s going to pay for it. He’ll claim that he didn’t say that at the time to save face for the Mexican pres, but since he’s viciously attacked Trump he’s going to stop being so nice.

Or something like that. If he doesn’t come up with that, Fox “News” will do it for him.

rcp has put wisconsin back in the toss up category cuz hillary is only ahead by an avg of 5.3 there

Razor Thin Margin!!!

I looked through the 2012 RCP map a while back, and I found these conclusions:

Twelve states were in the Tossup category on Election Day. Obama carried 11, with North Carolina the only exception.

Also, Obama outperformed his RCP polling average in every tossup state. In fact, he outperformed his average (when there enough data points to have in average) in every state he was favored to win and in Arizona (the only Leans Romney state). Obama underperformed only in states where he was already expected to lose badly, and not all of those.

I’d fix it for him. For free. But he’d need to test it for 2 hours in front of me. You know, to make sure it’s working right.

Think he’d go for that?

If you don’t have an agreement for payment, you don’t have an agreement.

And it must be in writing, unless the wall is supposed to cost less than $500 or not be built on land, or meets a few other even less likely conditions.

So the media’s buying Katrina Pierson’s line that Trump’s saying the same thing but with different words.

Fools, the whole lot of them.

Everything’s in place except a Congress that will build the wall and the money to build it. “If we had ham, we could have ham and eggs, if we had eggs.”

i envision trump in office: “well, it doesnt make sense to do the mass deportation until the wall is built. and we have to wait until we get mexico to agree to pay for the wall before we start to build it. and i asked congress to put in a tough vetting process to guard against terrorism but they told me obama had already done that. and it turns out we cant really bomb isis any more than obama was bombing it. and as for putting in taxes and tariffs to keep multinational corporations from exporting any more jobs, well it turns out the corporations own all the republican congress people so we cant do that until trump people have primaried them out of office…

so im gonna play golf”

It’s a little frightening to think how well Trump would be doing if he didn’t always piss all over himself.

The media loved him in Mexico. So presidential.

Then it turns out, like always, that he’s lying about something big.

Media bubble deflates again, but always with hope for the next time when can say “we’ve got a real horse race here, Wolf!”

“Trumpism shorn of most offensive elements but faithful to its essential message” is an oxymoron of the highest order.

The essential message of Trumpism is to be offensive.

This Michael Barbero guy is a complete and total idiot. He’d likely drown if someone said “look up” to him while it was raining. Too stupid to empty water out of a boot, even with step by step instructions stapled to the sole of the boot. Etc. Etc.

Hey, what’s a wall but a skyscraper laying on its side without plumbing or electricity? With Trump’s world class building and negotiating skills, he’ll get it done at a tiny fraction of that.

One problem with adapting Trump’s usual methods: The government can’t skip out on its bills.
